Beloved Downtown bruncher inside the ornate Union Trust Building. Pittsburgh Magazine spotlights its buttermilk poppy seed pancakes, while locals swear by the fried chicken biscuit and brown butter French toast. Breakfast daily; full brunch on weekends.

Incredible breakfast spot. The dishes are crafted beautifully with so much flavor and care. I loved the French toast, and my friend loved the country fried steak and said it was some of the best she’s had. I love coming here. Their coffee is excellent too!!!! The only con is that if you have a reservation, you still could end up waiting 15 mins for a table because it’s a small spot and they do get busy (this is what happened to us). But I always recommend this spot and the food is always so worth it.

Google
We were kind of find a breakfast place our last day there and we were going to Nikki’s but they were closed and a businessman saw that we were frustrated and recommended the speckled egg in the PGH building Oh my gosh! What an amazing building and the restaurant bar is in the rotunda of the building so you get a great view of the dome inside spectacular view. We ordered breakfast and it was absolutely delicious. I honestly have to say it was one of the best breakfast I’ve ever had dining out, made me fall in love with Pittsburgh , every meal we’ve had was delicious The service was impeccable, very friendly, knowledgeable, and good at recommending food for someone who has a gluten intolerance I had the hen hash with gluten-free toast absolutely delicious!

Google
This was legitimately the best breakfast we've ever had. The breakfast sandwich was hands down the best I've had. Every individual aspect of each dish was actually perfect, and the dishes were totally delicious. The service is lovely and homey, and it's in a very cool building with good vibes.

Google
Very friendly and courteous. Good prices and fast for being in the heart of downtown. Fluffy omelets, perfectly cooked chorizo. Great grilled cheese and other sandwiches to compliment a good brunch menu. Fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Google
Fantastic Buttermilk Poppy Seed Pancakes!! Three generously-sized pancakes that were fluffy and not over-priced. This husband & wife owned local business is in the beautifully decorated Union Trust building.

Google
Food was not up to par. Asked for sausage ham and cheese omelet and gotten prosciutto instead of ham, sausage on the side instead of mixed in with the ham and cheese. The sausage had an odd taste and texture from the first bite. Only received one toast instead of 2. The server Miles was great and attentive.

Google
It was so good we went 2 days in a row! I recommend the goat omelette. If the dine-in seats are full, they will let you order takeout and eat at the comfy lounge tables, right next to the dine-in tables.

Andy Cook

Google
The Speckled Egg offers wonderfully elevated breakfast food. Their house made sausage bursts with flavors, and their open face egg salad sandwich offers unique yet classic flavors. Seating and service was fast and friendly.

Yelp
Cute place and busy! The food was great, the service was also. The coffee could have been better however the fresh Turmeric shot made up for it. The building where it's located is stunning.

Yelp
I had such a great experience at The Speckled Egg! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting. The menu is creative and full of comfort food with a twist. I ordered the Savory French Toast, and it was absolutely delicious--fluffy, flavorful, and unlike anything I've had before. The coffee was strong. Service was friendly and efficient, even though the place was busy. You can tell the staff really works as a team and wants guests to feel taken care of.

Yelp
Delicious. I just had scrambled eggs - but they were accompanied by great maple sausage. I also got a side of grits. The place was hopping on a Sat morning.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick breakfast and was quickly greeted and served by a friendly staff. We wanted something light and were very happy with our selections. I ordered the bagel with lox and my wife got the avocado toast. She also really enjoyed the dirty chai latte. Worth the stop for a quick breakfast or lunch.

Yelp
Excellent food in a lovely venue. Here in Pittsburgh for a few days and really enjoyed the brunch this morning. Yum.

Yelp
Finally returned to The Speckled Egg! We made a reservation online. I would recommend because it was crowded the entire time we were there! The host was nice and accommodating Our food was delicious, though portions were small so the menu did seem a bit overpriced Our service was a tad slow. It took awhile to get our check Parking is not ideal at this location, you will need to find a garage nearby

Yelp
One of the best breakfast/brunch spots in downtown. Really cool setup inside the Union Trust Building. The food is all delicious. The patty melt and grilled cheese are two of my favorites. It is also a good spot for happy hour. Their happy hour menu has the best nuggets you will ever have. Really good ranch as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Gorgeous presentation A Chicken salad was amazing. A Service was good B Cute downtown place!

Yelp
Speckled Egg is just great. This is right inside the Union Trust Building with table and bar seating. French toast was soft and crispy, and the brown butter and syrup with it took it to another level. The herbed sausage had plenty of flavor too. Server and hosts were very pleasant and welcoming. Nothing not to love about this place - be sure to check it out for breakfast / brunch if near.

Yelp
Another amazing meal at TSE. This was one of the first restaurants I went to when I moved downtown - it's been awhile, but omg it's still just as delicious as ever. Their patty melt is the perfect brunch order for the super hungry, savory lover! I really love the sweetness of the bread and butter pickles too. I usually order their TSE breakfast sandwich with bacon. The bun is always PERFECT and i love the sauce they use. I also have always been a fan of their many pressed juice options. They even have kombucha!

Rachel K.

Yelp
Overly priced for average! All I got was an iced Carmel latte and a normal Egg/cheese/sausage sandwich with egg whites.... I was charged almost $25! That's actually insane! The basic sandwich isn't on the menu I had to ask but the latte is $6 then they charge you for a flavor. Nothing special I wouldn't go back with these prices.

Yelp
Location was a bit awkward to find but it's inside of a cool old building. It feels a little like you're in the hallway of a business but the decor is gorgeous and there's a huge chandelier above. I ordered the Hens Hash and the Speckled Egg spritz. Everything was delicious, service was efficient and kind. Definitely get a reservation, they get busy.

Yelp
Last day in Pittsburg and final meal of our trip was at the Speckled Egg. Great spot inside a beautiful office building which oozed history. We were kindly greeted and sat promptly. It was a Wednesday morning around 9 so it wasn't too busy. My friend ordered an omelette, another the patty melt and I had to try the fish sandwich. Yum!!! Everything was delicious but the patty melt was the star of the show. We were glad we had to walk back to the hotel afterwards because the meal was filling and huge portions. Will come back on our next trip to Pittsburgh.

Yelp
Found this place randomly doing a breakfast food search on a long weekend in Pittsburgh. Both dishes we got were delicious although we both preferred the toad in the hole with goat cheese. Staff was great, we would def come back.
google avatar

Whitley S.

Yelp
Oh babe salad is good but expensive... I paid a total of $26 for it and it was basically like a side salad and they forgot the broccolini..
google avatar

Sara G.

Yelp
The Speckled Egg is in the beautiful Union Trust Building in Pittsburgh, PA. The architecture rocks! I ordered The Nester, which has eggs with goat cheese, greens, fine herbs, and crab meat. The dish is a stroke of genius - two perfectly cooked eggs nestled in toast with a hole cut out, paired with a fresh green salad. The combination is amazing! The atmosphere at The Speckled Egg is lively because it's in a high rise with many passerbys, making it an ideal spot for people-watching. If you're in Pittsburgh, The Speckled Egg is a must-visit for a delicious and inventive meal in a bustling setting.

Yelp
It's not a bad place but I feel like my order could've been better. I came here in the morning and placed an order to-go. I did this because most of the seating was taken up and I didn't really feel like waiting. I ordered the avocado toast and the lox on the side. The order took a little while to be ready to-be-honest. Additionally, the avocado toast had some salt crystals sprinkled on it but I feel like it was very overpowering. I had to pick through it to remove as many as I could, to make it more edible. The lox on the other hand was delicious. Maybe next time I'll try something else on the menu but avocado toast wasn't it this time around.
google avatar

Ellie K.

Yelp
Great food with great portions. A really sweet location inside of a historical building. Service was good. Food was better. I had the grilled cheese and it was so melty and had a tomatoe bisque to dip in. Great spot for a simple lunch. Not a whole lot of options that aren't basically the same.
google avatar

Kyle C.

Yelp
Service was good at the bar, polite and friendly. Not much of an ambience in the main floor of the union building but comfortable. The food was tasty but a bit expensive. The drinks were good. Bloody Mary had just enough kick. I had the Millennial Toast with crab and wife had the brown butter French toast with a side of bacon. Interesting sounding menu, but pretty typical of breakfastonce served.

Yelp
This will quickly become a staple of our visits to Pittsburgh and undoubtedly a tradition when we stay there. Firstly the atmosphere is incredibly and unique like no other breakfast restaurant you've been to... guaranteed. The staff are friendly and were quick to answer and questions either of us had regarding the food and drink menu! Our food came out quickly and the prices were certainly reasonable, we hope to be back very soon!

Yelp
I visited here because I wanted to have something healthy for breakfast quickly. This place is located in a beautiful building in the downtown of Pittsburgh. The root juice was served immediately after I asked it and it was delicious. The soup contained a lot of vegetables, which was good for a traveler. The turmeric chicken salad was a good source of protein and was delicious. This place was a good option for breakfast!
google avatar

Yelp
set the location of this is a little weird. It's inside a building and so while you were waiting for a table, you were just kind of hanging out inside the building beautiful spot though. They were extremely busy the day that we were there and I did have a reservation we still had to wait about 15 minutes before we got a table. The service was slow. It took us a long time to get our drinks and then to get our food ordered again. They were extremely busy and the staff that was there was so nice and so helpful. The food was great. The brunch menu is what we ordered off of. We also each had a bloody Mary with their infused spicy tequila so good and can't wait to go there again.

Yelp
Located inside the Union Trust Building downtown. Great neighborhood diner whipping up omelets, sandwiches, cocktails and espresso in a super friendly atmosphere. This location has a to-go coffee area as well as a full bar and regular dining-style seating. Tried the Hen's Hash which is two eggs, your way- I did over easy, potatoes, Brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, red onion, mushroom served with toast. This dish was amazing, perfect portion, perfect flavor combo. Really enjoyed this dish.

Yelp
Went here with a friend while she was visiting me from Arizona. We met up with her friend that lives downtown. The place is gorgeous with great views of the atrium. Service was impeccable and friendly. I loved their coffees - lattes and cappuccinos are delicious. I ordered the I Am...Kazaam and a side of bacon. It was just ok. Part of the problem is it was not hot enough which was surprising since it looks to be in a cast iron skillet. My friend ordered the eggs Benedict with a side of potatoes. Honestly, the potatoes were DELICIOUS, lol. Totally unexpected but whatever spices they use or oil is a phenomenal combination. I will go back to try something different for sure. Overall, I recommend!
google avatar

Remy F.

Yelp
Great breakfast/brunch spot. Definitely recommend the home fries for the table! My go to has been the French toast, but every visitor I bring has tried something different and enjoyed it. Service was great and the building it is in is incredible. The vines are good. Make sure to look up!

Pauline Z.

Yelp
We walked in and couldn't get a reservation for an hour but we ordered our delicious food for take out and ate in the lobby. Great option!
google avatar

Siena F.

Yelp
Food was great & service was quick! We were sat right on time for our reservation & the food came out promptly as well. Tons of options for people with all different wants/tastes, and full on a game day morning! I'd give a 4.5 if possible, only docking .5 of a point because the ambiance could have been a smidge better. But I would totally come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Overall a great place to eat in Pittsburgh for Breakfast. My wife and I arrived here right as they opened and ate. Service was very quick and the food tasted excellent. However the overall ambiance of this restaurant really sells the place. This restaurant is located in an old historical Pittsburgh building that is a charm to just walk around and explore. This is a must-stop for anyone visiting the Pittsburgh area for breakfast.

Yelp
Place is within the Union Trust Building. Beautiful historic building. It was 1015a on a Thursday and the hostess asked if we had reservations. We didn't, so we weren't seated until after 1045a-1050a. Seating inside with some tables, bar top, and seating alongside the restaurant within the lobby of the building. Two single stall bathrooms. Bathrooms have on the door a gender neutral sign and then have a men sign or women sign next to it. So not sure, little confusing? Menu is hipster type food. Breakfast, lunch, and drinks. Our waiter was fine, refilled our coffees. Ordering to getting our food took forever, at least a 35 minute + wait time for breakfast food. Our server didn't apologize for the long wait time or acknowledged it. Thank goodness we didn't have somewhere to be. I got the French toast with a side of sausage and it was very good. The bread is normal sliced bread, no thick brioche or thick toast. The jam and syrup was great. The maple sage sausage had lots of flavor. My husband got the classic - so eggs, toast and a protein. The wait time just put a bad taste in my mouth. Not worth the wait unfortunately.

Yelp
Fabulous food!! Very Professional and attentive service. Food was very good Enjoyed it all.
google avatar

Sadie M.

Yelp
If you are ever nearby the Union trust building and needing some upscale breakfast, this is your spot. The building is absolutely breathtaking, and the food was upscale and different from your typical breakfast spot. I got the Nestor, and definitely enjoyed it. However, our server seemed a bit out of touch and we had to ask her for a couple of basic items. Despite this, I would definitely go back. We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table, but there is so much to see in that building that it's no problem! Definitely a great little spot!
google avatar

Liz G.

Yelp
Recently had a delish brunch at TSE! You definitely need a reservation on the weekends so plan ahead! I had the goat omelette & my friends split the poppyseed pancakes. Both were excellent, but those pancakes really hit the spot. I had an espresso martini to top it off!
google avatar

Maureen R.

Yelp
I met my two girlfriends here for a Sunday brunch. I had been here before and always had a good experience. This was their first time here. The place was packed when we arrived, so I was glad we had reservations. They like to wait for your entire party to be there before they seat you. Our waiter was Ethan and he was the absolute best. He was funny, attentive and very helpful with our many questions. I had the Bloody Mary to start and it was perfectly spiced. I had the Ted Lasso omelette, it had ham, cheddar cheese, poblano peppers and red onion. It had a good kick with the peppers and the ham was thick cut. My one friend had the egg sandwich and subbed out the onion poppyseed bun for sourdough. My other friend had the hens hash. We all really enjoyed our meals. The only thing I wish was different was our table placement. They have tables inside the restaurant and outside in the main area of the building. The union trust building is gorgeous but I would have liked to sit inside.
google avatar

J G.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing breakfast spot. It's in a renovated historic building and has a wonderful atmosphere. It's a small space with attentive staff, and excellent food. I kept it simple with a classic breakfast with eggs and toast but that multi grain bread is delish! It seems like a good place to have a reservist, but as a solo traveler I was lucky to get a seat at the bar. I highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Ambience was nice. We were sat in large corridor. Food was good, different and served promptly. Coffee was bitter and cream was sour. They did give us new, but I personally didn't care for the brand. Plenty of servers.
google avatar

Christina W.

Yelp
Meh, I wasn't impressed by this place at all. I came with a couple of friends of mine for brunch on Saturday. With a reservation we waited about 5 minutes to be seated. I ordered a cappuccino which arrived half an hour later. The ambience was hotel-like. Nothing to brag about. Food was average as well. I ordered eggs Benedict and was not very pleased with the quality of hollandaise sauce. It lacked something significant and was overly greasy. The bread was average as well. My friends, on the other hand, mostly enjoyed their meals. They also liked the availability of juices. Our service was average as well although the waitress seemed very nice. Overall, I don't think I would go back.
google avatar

Michelle Z.

Yelp
Cute brunch spot in downtown Pittsburgh. This place serves up plates that feel really healthy and clean. It's not your typical American brunch! Would definitely recommend making a reservation if you can. We didn't have one (party of 4) and had to wait quite a long time on a Friday around noon to get seated. Even then, we couldn't get seated inside the actual restaurant itself -- we were seated outside in the main hall area (this restaurant is located within the Union Trust building) which felt pretty disconnected from the rest of the restaurant unfortunately. Ambiance was eh because of this. Food was great though -- tasted very fresh -- and they were really nice about making substitutions and accommodations. Recommend the Hen's Hash! I love brussels sprouts and have never seen them on a brunch menu before :)
google avatar

Susan D.

Yelp
Good place to go if you want breakfast, lunch or brunch Downtown, My husband and I joined my cousin and her husband for the latter. I agree with Kyle C (below) on the atmosphere, however the service and food more than make up for it. I went for the "Where Reuben Been All My Life?" omelette. I've always been one for a good Reuben. My cousin, in more of a sammich mode, went for the "T.S.E. Breakfast Sando". Her guy went a little bit more simple with the Goat Omelette. My husband went for the Buttermilk Poppy Seed Pancakes. Never having eaten a poppy seed pancake before, I sampled his. I am definitely getting that one next time I'm here (and taking enough insulin to cover it)!
google avatar

Bryson G.

Yelp
Wanted breakfast and I was pretty hungry so I took the advice of the waitress and got the omelet and a kids side of pancakes...it was so much food I couldn't finish it and I always clear my plate! The food was amazing, I really enjoyed the flavor of the omelet and the pancakes were very fluffy and delicious. I would for sure come back here if I wanted another filling breakfast!

Yelp
PGH, if you've not discovered Speckled Egg yet, you need to. Located in the Union Trust Building, it offers an incredible breakfast and drink menu amongst the ambiance of this spectacular architecture. Service is friendly and highly engaging. As they say here, "That's' All Yolks"
google avatar

Morgan G.

Yelp
The atmosphere is always a buzz at the Downtown Speckled Egg location. The beautiful building adds to the charm of the restaurant itself. I really like their eggs Benedict, that is always my go to at the Speckled Egg. The crab cake version is very decadent while delicious for breakfast. I am also a huge hot sauce fan and they make their own version which is pretty unique but good. I also have always enjoyed good service here. Tip: Book a reservation in advance for weekend brunch as they are typically always fully booked.
google avatar

Sonal H.

Yelp
The speckled egg is yummy. They serve classic brunch dishes and a couple fun/specialty ones as well! Giving it 4 starts because it's a good spot to go to and will satisfy your brunch craving, not a 5 because it wasn't anything crazy special/crazy delicious.
google avatar

Jenn W.

Yelp
Our group of four had breakfast here recently. It was a short walk from our hotel & the younger girl's apartment. It was very crowded when we arrived, and we were quoted a 30 minute wait. However, we were seated in about 15 minutes, so not too bad at all. Amazingly diverse menu, and they were super accommodating for one person in our party who has celiac and eats gluten free. My daughter chose the brown butter French toast and bacon and loved it. The rest of our party chose pancakes, an egg white omelette, and toast with bacon. Service was good. Our only issue was that two of us ordered specialty drinks which never came. However, they were on the bill, so that took a few minutes to resolve.
google avatar

Yelp
Fresh, Delicious, and a Great Breakfast Spot I recently stopped by this lovely spot for breakfast, and it turned out to be such a great experience. They have an impressive selection of fresh, healthy juices--perfect for starting the day right. I

Yelp
My friend and I had 9:15am revelations and showed up about 5 minutes early. They checked us in immediately and the table was ready for us right on time. We were worried that our to go coffee cups from a different establishment would be a problem, but they didn't even bat an eye! We were seated inside of the cafe at a small table for two and provided with a pitcher of water and two glasses. Our server came over promptly and took our orders for two drip coffees. The coffee came out quickly and was hot and smooth. For entrees, I ordered the brown butter french toast with a side of herby homemade chicken sausage. The french toast was perfect. The strawberry cardamom jam and local butter added layers of flavor to the slightly crispy bread. The chicken sausage had great flavor, but unfortunately seemed a little dry to me. My friend ordered the I am Kazaam with avocado. She said the sourdough toast was good and the dish itself was loaded with flavor. Not spicy, but delicious. They have two bathrooms and they were clean and stocked with plenty of paper towels and soap. Would definitely recommend making a reservation on the weekend because it was super busy when we got there!

Wesley P.

Yelp
Majorly impressed! The TSE breakfast Sando might be the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. My wife had I Am Kazaam which was a Moroccan flavored breakfast. It was a bit weird but definitely unique. Our waiter at the bar was super knowledgeable about the menu and very helpful
google avatar

Douglas K.

Yelp
You absolutely must visit the Speckled Egg in downtown for breakfast. The French toast was mind blowing good! Those home made preserves on the French toast were perfect and here it is in the evening and I'm still thinking about them. She had the loaded Lox and what an amazing job of freshness and goodness! And our waitress!!!! She herself was a star! We wanted for nothing, and she helped us start our day with her amazing smile and attentiveness. A Pittsburgh native, she gave us neighborhoods to visit which was great advice and how we spent our day. Gave her a 25% tip and regret not giving her more.
google avatar

Alexandra K.

Yelp
Eggs are my favorite food; deceptively versatile and underestimated in their potential to add sophistication or oomph to a dish. The Speckled Egg gets it. I had an "egg in the basket"-style breakfast and a side of potatoes. May sound simple, but the execution was elevated and spot-on. My egg was perfectly cooked; it was jammy and rich. The potatoes were crisp, which honestly, is not always a given during breakfast rush hour. Also worth mentioning is that they have a truly epic assortment of flavors for coffee which resulted in me sipping on a lavender cold brew which was the perfect vibe for my day. Highly recommend a visit when in PGH.

Yelp
Yummy French toast, refreshing iced tea, all in an historical, beautiful building. Service was pleasant and quick. Make a reservation as it's not too bug and fills up (even on Sunday).
