TikTok Food Critic Keith Lee Is Visiting Detroit and Is Looking for Restaurants to Review - Eater Detroit

"The last time Lee paid a visit to his hometown was in September when he reviewed several beloved local food businesses, including the Spot food truck, which, according to Lee’s review, had contacted him on social media to invite him to check out its food. He ordered a steak crunchwrap supreme with Hot Cheetos (on the side) and gave the truck a rave review for its service, house-made 'Turbo' sauce, and commented that the meat was seasoned to perfection." - Serena Maria Daniels

Pulled up to The Spot Truk late at night and was immediately greeted by friendly staff. The person taking my order was super helpful and actually recommended the Steak Turbo Tacos since they were out of the burger I originally wanted. Honestly? No regrets at all — those tacos really hit the spot. You get three generously filled tacos, loaded with flavor. The steak was tender, the turbo sauce had just the right kick, and they even tossed in some Doritos, which added a great crunch and boosted the overall flavor. I didn’t even need the dipping sauce — that’s how good they were. Best part? It’s all halal, and the quality shows. Super grateful for a spot like this that’s open late, has great vibes, and serves up unforgettable street food. Will definitely be coming back.

First off I’ll say the customer service wasn’t bad. They were polite even with it being crowded and late at night. The birria tacos I ordered had little to no beef on them. It was disappointing because I had high hopes for the food. I agree with another review saying “it’s not real birria meat”. It did lack flavor but overall was good. The loaded steak fries (the same meat in the birria so not sure we could actually call them steak fries) were the highlight. I suggest also letting customers know when ordering you're out of condiments that come with a meal instead of letting them figure it out after they’ve already left. This place has potential. Hope to see it do better.

You guys were sloppy today. It’s sad that this place isn’t consistent everytime i get it it’s different. I had two orders of the birria tacos, and was told we can only get ONE consome? Weird.. because each order should come with one. And what’s the reason to burning the tacos today and throwing toppings in like they don’t matter. Again be consistent it’s more professional. Even the consome is off today, just plain broth and chopped onions.

DO NOT GET THE BURGER. The Oklahoma style smashburger is absolutely horrid. The patties taste like cardboard, way over cooked, felt like they were pre made and were not smashed. If I could rate the burger alone it would be a negative 3 star. The only reason I will proceed to give this place a one star today is because the barrier tacos or somewhat edible compared to the burger. My first taco was not bad the second and third tasted burnt. When we placed our order the guy told us 25 minutes 50 minutes later we were served this misery. I absolutely hate posting negative reviews but I feel that people should know that not everything they see on Instagram is good. Also the area is kinda sketchy at night.

So much potential but so disappointing. 20 minute wait for a chicken Crunchwrap combo with stale hot cheetos(the crunch)- the chicken was fried, didn’t expect that. No sauce drizzle like the pics. had to ask for sauce once I got my to-go order or wouldn’t have had any. Fries had no seasoning like pics suggest. Guy at the window was cool. They were busy which I thought was a good sign. But for a first timer- wouldn’t go back honestly.

I’ve been here for the Norris tacos before. This time, I got the steak Crunchwrap. It did not disappoint. The only suggestion I can make is to use Fritos instead of Cheetos. Didn’t stop me from smashing though. The picture is of only half. I ate the other before I remembered to take it.😋🤤

I was really looking forward to eating off this truck. I brought my sons to surprise and treat them for Valentine’s Day and was very disappointed. My birria pizza was room temp, and my CONSOME was COLD and I had to go back up and ask them to at least heat it up only for them to tell me they had run out. That explains why it was less than halfway full. I’m generally one who’ll let things slide and make the best of it, but this was a complete waste of money, time etc. I’ve seen good reviews but baby today was not it! What happened?? Sooo disappointed in my first experience here.

THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. OK upon walking up they said they weren’t taking orders then they said they were on a 15 minute. Wait that was all. They told us 40 minutes later they had just started my order. I’ve saw people come and go people that came after us come and go with their food. My order was three Ramen a quesadilla and some wings. Upon talking to the people around me that were waiting they have been there longer than me so I’m even an hour. So I would hate to throw race into this, but everyone that was that was waiting extra long for their food was black. Now I decided to try this place out because I had did a DoorDash a few days prior and I thought that they had the Ramen now I have to find the Ramen or else I would not recommend this place for anybody I would say go at your own risk and be prepared to wait Especially if it’s a function in the city and it might be busy just wait and also you have to be the person to communicate because the workers have poor communication skills. He also gotta watch what they doing cause I’ve seen some taking breaks on the side with a glove still on and going back over cooking. I’m just saying I have had better service at other Mexican food trucks. In the end I got a refund and currently waiting for my money to hit my card. Wish I would have paid in cash. The video of the guy in red is the man that waited over an hour.

Yelp
I'm always craving some good halal tacos and this place defiantly hit the spot. So good so fresh and a great amount of meat in the tacos. The wings were perfect and not dry. Loved it.

Yelp
The Spot consistently delivers on flavorful, non-traditional Mexican tacos, with the birria stealing the spotlight for its deliciousness and perfect preparation. Their only hiccup is the wait time/ordering process. Our last attempt to order resulted in a 10-minute hold on the phone that resulted in the employee telling us that they were too busy and were only taking in-person orders. Regardless of the time of day you are trying to order, be prepared for a minimum 30-minute wait. While I appreciate the restaurant's popularity and thriving business, a more efficient ordering system would greatly benefit both the eager customers and the hardworking staff. The flavors are worth it, but patience is key at The Spot.

Yelp
I walked all the way to this food truck with some friends & was disappointed. We waited over 20 minutes for our meal just for the food to taste mid. It's really not all that. It's overhyped in my opinion

Yelp
What can I say. The young man on the truck was so pleasant and about his business. The food is A1. Prices are dam good. For 3 tacos it was $10.99, Chicken Quesadilla is $7.99. The truck stayed busy the whole time we were there. Thank you. Will be back soon.

Yelp
Forgive my spelling. Pros: 1. Get prepared for the flavor!! OMG! I was not expecting the flavor from the Barria tacos...even without the Cosome! 2. Cosome was great! 3. Customer service: Pleasant, asked me how my day was. Very nice. Cons: 1. Although they were expected to open at 2 p.m., they weren't prepared to make food just yet. There were still employees bringing food to the truck. Was told 25 minute wait. 2. They took my make & model of car expecting them to bring my food to the car when ready, but they did not. After 35 minutes passed, I went to the truck & then received food. 3. Fries were not hot, but still crispy. 4. BTW, the Oklahoma burger is no longer on the menu at this time. Other: 1. For the steak supreme, I didn't realize I should have asked for the hot Cheetos on the side. Still good. 2. I don't know if they even provide these items but I would have requested ketchup and napkins. Enjoy!!

Yelp
The food is not that bad it's good but they need to lower down the price it's too expensive

Yelp
Really good, ordered ahead and it was ready when I got there. Knocking off a star for missing part of my order.

Yelp
This truck never disappoints! Not matter when I come and get my lunch from here, the food is always delicious. Yes, sometimes it can be a longer wait - so I just order everything ahead of time. Great food, great workers, always my safe bet when it comes to quality and consistency. I've tried their turbo tacos and their Crunchwrap's supreme and I'll continue to order those. Tender, flavorful meat with a crispy shell all drizzled in their house turbo sauce - wow!

Yelp
So this is a tricky one!!! Instantly saw the Birria ramen in the photos and that was the deciding factor to go! Got there and they don't serve it anymore. It's not on the menu. The photo on Yelp is a year old. So that was disappointing. BUT! The birria tacos we got were absolutely delectable!!! Flavor, temp, crunch--YES!!!! Check this place out. I will be back again-SOON!

Yelp
TheSpottruk is fire. These are some of the best tacos I have had in Michigan. The wife, dog, and I can't get enough of this place and have frequented it seven times in the past two months. I can't wait to bring my extended family for the holidays. My families go to order is 6x Birria Steak Turbo Tacos w/Cheese, Loaded Turbo Fries, and Consommé. The service is top notch with a recent example of them brining the food out to our car. I would highly recommend TheSpottruk to anyone.

Yelp
I waited an hour for my food when they said 25 minutes because they kept giving food to im assuming were family or friends because they kept going up to the back of the food truck, I ordered fries and got tacos instead I wanted to try this place because I heard good things but honestly after today I don't see myself ever coming back it was a waste of my time.

Yelp
This is a challenging review - the birria taco I got was amazing but the wait for it was making me lose my cool. Food trucks have limited menus and should be able to crank out the food. When you're at an event you don't want to wait 15 minutes for a taco, I don't understand why they don't have some things pre-prepped to move things along. Was at the Hotel Royal Oak for one of their parking lot concerts and they were the food truck. Everyone was getting irritated at the long wait times, I don't know if that's normal for them or if something was going wrong. But - as I said the 2 tacos I got were delicious.

Yelp
Food took almost 30 minutes to get , and a lady in line said she saw one of the employees pick something up off the floor with the same gloves and put it in the box of food , spent $60 for 6 birria tacos with cheese and 3 crunch wraps combos with fries , pretty pricy as well , $10.99 for 3 tacos , the food was okay tho nothing to come back too

Yelp
Best burgers and tacos in the nation!! Always nothing but the most delicious-fresh tasting food at unbeatable prices. Honestly, ever since I've found this place I don't eat anywhere else!
