The Best Coffee Shops in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"This Mid-City joint is easy to spot from the street with its unusual architecture, but it’s what’s inside that makes it a must-try. Sweet and savory baked goods made in-house accompany a robust coffee menu, with espresso drinks, Chemex, and V60 pourovers. Everything’s made with high-quality products in-house, so you can’t go wrong. As a bonus, it’s one of few shops in town that makes its own chai blend." - Eater Staff

Very cute spot with tasty coffee. Indoor seating is quite limited, but the benches outside look really comfy. A nice place to stop by if you’re in the area!

Google
Omg. This place is so freaking cute. Plenty of seating, both inside and outside. They've got good pourovers as well as espresso. I ordered the Brazilian pourover and the hot caramel latte. Both were amazing and smooth. The barista running the shift was so sweet and made excellent recommendations. The coffee shop has a cottage core atmosphere and it's so cozy. They have a wide variety of pastries as well.

Google
Wow - the food was great! Had the tofu sandwich and the oat meal cream bar, and both were delicious. Great vegan options. Reasonable price as well, I got the sandwich, dessert, and cold brew for less than $15. Knocked off a star because they charge extra for plant milks. Considering dairy is terrible for the environment (yes, worse than almond), I think it’s unreasonable to penalize customers for trying to help the climate. They should charge extra for dairy instead. Overall, I will be back!

Google
Very cozy place. But they do not have decaf expresso drinks. I wanted to order a decaf latte and I couldn't. So instead I decided to get a hot chocolate. The drink I got was cold so I returned it. They made me a new one that was exactly the same like the first one. So I am pretty disappointed. On the positive side, the pastry is fresh and delicious.

Google
I loved the small coffee shop feel. My egg and cheese croissant sandwich was delicious. They have decaf cold brew -- which most places do not. So that was a nice surprise! There are places to plug in your device along one wall - I did not try them, but they are in a good location. They have a wide variety of baked goods as well. Definitely stop by if you are in the area!

Google
Stumbled across this quaint little coffee shop. Ordered a breakfast tea, and probably the most delicious scone I’ve ever had. It was a Cranberry & Pecan scone & I honestly wish I would’ve bought a box of them! I’ll definitely be back!

Google
Came to this neighborhood cafe before we left NOLA, not only the coffees are so good but also the bakeries are hearty homemade (not too sweet but very flavorful) - we all love the morning bun, oatmeal cookie. Sandwiches are amazing too, tasting fresh and with great balance of cheese and the rest of ingredients, not too heavy for breakfast.

Google
Stumbled on this adorable coffee shop on my way to school. They have GF and vegan options and the vibe is adorable. I got a meat kolache and a breakfast sandwich on a fresh baked biscuit and both were amazing ! They have plenty of cute patio seating as well as indoor. You won't be disappointed .

Yelp
The Station was a lovely surprise. We wanted breakfast before our cemetery tour, and this was the closest place to the pickup, but, wow. The website really doesn't reflect what they have on offer. For savoring, they have everything in both a meat and a veggie option, so an Indian Butter Chicken hand pie and a Corn Maque Chox version, which was much appreciated. I had an iced vanilla and cardamom latte. The flavor was great, but it was a little sweet for me. But my breakfast was a Veggie Potpie Pap Tart. And.... woah. It was so good. The pastry was flakey and the filling was warm and well seasoned and plenty of it. I really wanted to try one or all of the sweets, but there were more food stops planned, so I sadly refrained. The place has a great vibe, bright and friendly. It was not overly busy, but for sure popular!!

Yelp
wow will be coming back. chicken and white bean hand pie was soft and yet flaky. and buttery. the filling was perfectly moist yet crumbly and flavorful. also the drip coffee beats most coffee shops out of the water. other coffee shops have almost burnt-tasting coffee. but the station coffee shop's drip coffee is roasted enough that it brings out the flavors but not to where it tastes burnt. also they have free wifi and lots of seating, even for a sunday. perfect place to study. music isn't loud.
google avatar

Briana M.

Yelp
Place was busy on a Saturday morning! Had a savory pop tart and a mixed fruit ... bun? Chai was milked down but the treats were tasty!
google avatar

Erin N.

Yelp
I love this place! A great place to work and eat some delicious and unique baked goods. I love sitting outside when the weather permits.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute coffee shop with indoor and outdoor seating. The baristas were super friendly and helpful. They actually have free refills of drip coffee if you are dining in. We had an apple pastry and an English muffin that were both incredibly dry, so we might skip the pastries next time. I will definitely return. Street parking.
google avatar

Yelp
My go-to Mid City coffee shop. This place offers both indoor and outdoor seating when you need a place to study or catch up with an old friend. They also make delicious pastries here like spinach pop-tarts, lemon bars, and koulache buns. They're also super pet-friendly and the baristas often bring out water to any pup that stops by. Pro-tip: Wake up a bit early to get your hands on one of the pop tarts as they do sell out quick!

Yelp
Haven't been to The Station in a while, and glad we stopped in this morning. This is such a cute place with the friendliest baristas! Plus, it always smells amazing. I let the barista know I wanted something chocolate-y and she suggested the chocolate twist. Great idea! Even though it looks like a good amount of bread, it's layered with chocolate on the inside and the bread itself is so light! Definitely a must get. I always forget they are a bakery too, so no wonder all their bites are so fresh. My friend ordered one of the savory kolaches and it was delicious. I haven't had a bad drink order there once. I ordered the iced chai with oat milk and it was standard and yummy. If the Station isn't on your coffee visit rotation, add it! They have adorable indoor and outside seating. Can fit big groups outside.

Yelp
I came here during mardi gras season and was hoping to try one of their specialty king cake bites. The barista was freindly enough but sadly said that people get there super early in the morning and basically buy them out of all the fun king cake treats. I was dissapointed and understand the overzealous beahvior of people during that time, but I wished the bakery would have either put a limit of them or made more. I decided to order coffee and asked if there were any fun mardi gras seasonal flavors and there was not. So, I tried a basic coffee and it was ok. Nothing really amazing or anything. They have plenty of seating space inside and outside and I like the architecture of the building. It makes it stand out for sure. They have a pretty good selection of teas too. If I am in the neighborhood again, I may stop by, but probably wont go out of my way to come back.

Yelp
Such a cute coffee shop. The service was great. The place was clean and adorable. I had a latte with coconut milk and the lemon earl grey bar (which was perfect). Highly recommend.

Kat E.

Yelp
Favorite neighborhood spot! Service is awesome, so quick and so friendly. Vibes are so perfectly local and welcoming. Coffee is 10/10, and the food....the veggie quiche could be served at a 5 star restaurant I swear.

Yelp
I stopped by this coffee shop with the hope of grabbing a quick coffee before work. Like most, I decided to use Apple Pay for convenience. Little did I know, there was a tiny sign hidden under the card reader warning about issues with Apple Pay. So, I went ahead and used it, not initially seeing it, and the lady behind the counter practically shouted about how people can't read the sign. Maybe put it above the card reader? Or maybe stop me before making payment? Idk. Her frustration was so palpable that she couldn't even get my order right and had the audacity to roll her eyes when I politely pointed out their mistake. If you enjoy being publicly scolded, by someone with a poor colorful dye job and having your order messed up, this place is a must-visit. 0 out of 10, would not recommend. There are better people and coffee shops in the city.
google avatar

Jayson S.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place because it's one block from my house, but the second time I visited, I noticed bugs in their pastry case. And the staff seemed consistently morose both times

Emily N.

Yelp
Fast service. Cute building. Great oldies playing in the background. Great and fun ambiance. It's kinda self service. You go up, place your order, and back to the counter when they call your name to grab your food or for a coffee refill. Food was tasty and we were full. A brisk 15 minute walk from our air bnb on Carrollton on a cold January morning but it was worth it!

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop inside what I'm guessing from the name is an old train station. Small but comfy indoor seating and a good amount of outdoor seating too. Excellent savory breakfast food selection and very good coffee.
google avatar

Aaron H.

Yelp
One of our favorite coffee shops in the city. Parking can be tough since it is all street parking, and usually full. The outdoor patio is very cute, and they have a few tables inside if it is too warm outside. It can get pretty crowded so it may be difficult to find a seat. The pastry options are great. I am a big fan of the homemade pop tarts, which I tend to get every time, but every pastry has been delicious. Their coffee is top-notch also. I judge a coffee place based on their pour-over coffee, and they make a good pour-over. The price is very reasonable also. 5 stars all around.

Yelp
Knowing about the food here is going to make my 2021 goals hard because I just want to eat all the pies, all the time! On recommendation of a coworker, I picked up one of their hand pies. I've been for coffee before but never tried the pies. Wow! The flavor was pork with apple and fennel. I'm kinda over a lot of the high end specialty pie places with crazy flavors, high prices and mediocre products. Happy to say, they did not miss the mark! The crusty may have included a stick of butter on its own but so worth every bite. Flaky, delicious and amazing filling. I had an excellent latte as well. Making it better, the barista could not have been nicer. I was eyeing the kolaches and just missed the sweet potato pie so I'll be back!

Yelp
Ambiance is great! Awesome service! Perfect place to do some work or just chill! Will go back!

Yelp
I've always loved grabbing coffee and breakfast here, but I finally got there in time to try their lunch sandwiches. I love my neighborhood coffee shop and they added more outside seating making it feel a little safer to space out and eat. First off the coffee and breakfast is good. They don't have a huge selection of beverages, but what they do have is good and fast. The different kolaches are good and you can't go wrong with a breakfast sandwich. The lunch sandwich I tried was a tea brine turkey sandwich. The turkey had an interesting bite I've not had in a cold sandwich before. I'm not sure what kind of bread it is, but it's thick, dense, and adds a little bit of crunch. I'll definitely be back to try some of the other lunch options.

Micheal H.

Yelp
A really nice spot for coffee. They serve a good cup and the food both savory and sweet choices are very good. I've not been letdown here so definitely one of my favorites. Unlike many other local indie cafe's, The coffee isn't acidic or as acidic as so many. Definitely a good brew.

Yelp
It took two times driving by to spot this little neighborhood hidden gem, as it's nestled behind some greenery and covered patio tables. So worth the trouble, though! Super homey feel & spotlessly clean. Delectable case full of amazing pasties. We were in the mood for a light breakfast so settled on a kolache and bacon cheese biscuit. Both were perfect! While waiting for those to be prepared, we couldn't resist an assortment of other pasties, including the twisty bun, with chocolate and orange, the oatmeal coconut sandwich cookie and one other puffed sugary delight. All were amazing! Great cup of coffee, too! The station will be added to my Top 10 NOLA breakfast spots!
google avatar

Zabrina R.

Yelp
Such a cute spot! I tried their vanilla latte which was the best I've tried in nola so far. Not to sweet, and you can tell they know their coffee! Would return to try out more of their baked goods. Currently have outdoor seating only.
google avatar

Sydney M.

Yelp
Hot tea, but they served me cold food. Kind of disappointing. Will go somewhere else next time.

Yelp
I really love this cute little coffee shop that is in my neighborhood! Their chai is one of the best in the city! Plus every single pastry I've tried is delicious! My only wish is that it was open for longer hours In the evening bc I'm a night owl ! Haha ;) Now that my schedule has become more flexible I find myself drawn to this coffee shop bc I can get there during the day before it closes! It's such a cute and colorful place inside and out! Although my preference is to sit outside when the weather is nice. They have multiple tables set outside as well as these cool wooden u shaped sitting areas. I usually sit at the regular tables bc I need to write/work on my laptop etc. But the wooden areas are very cozy and comforting! As I previously mentioned my go to drink is an iced chai with coconut milk during warm weather and a hot chai or hit chocolate during cooler weather! Recently I took my high school best friend's Mom here and we both had to try the delicious bread pudding filled king cake! Not only was it tasty but it started out Mardi Gras season off right since it was officially the day of the epiphany, January 6! I would also recommend their huge chocolate chip cookies as well! Honestly I've enjoyed every pastry I've had here! Oh and the people that work here are utterly friendly and lovely! They really makes it such a great experience! Enjoy!

Yelp
EXCELLENT PASTRIES (Ses pics) The flaky crust of the hose made pastries is some of the best in the city. I got the asparagus stuffed croissant and a thick and meaty sausage kolache. COFFEE - MEH The coffee is another story. I prefer my Fresh Market brew from home and definitely prefer French Truck. GREAT CASUAL VIBE It's refreshing to go to a millennial cafe that isn't trying too hard to be grungy and anti-1980's material culture. Unlike say nearby Church St., The Station feels homey but clean and oddly modern.
google avatar

Monique R.

Yelp
I can't show enough love to the station! It's one of my go-to coffee shops to meet teacher friends at on the weekends. We have been going there for much of the pandemic and the staff has such a good system in place. Everyone must take their order to go or be seated outside! The line is often long, however it flows pretty quickly! I love to sit on the large outdoor benches because they are extremely spacious and I'm often able to get work done! The station is pet friendly and it's always a treat to see all the puppies hanging out with their owners for coffee and pastries at the top of the morning!
google avatar

Yelp
Love the purple roof! Such a charming spot for outdoor snack or lunch. Parking was easy at 10 on Wednesday

Yelp
Oh how I wish The Station was within walking distance of my house! Such a sweet little coffee shop tucked along Bienville Street. This must have been such a fun little house prior to its conversion. What is really nice is that they preserved the homey feeling of the building, while providing a nice coffeeshop atmosphere. There are both spacious outdoor seating areas (with benches around tables) and cozy indoor cozy seating (with tables and two areas to perch by the windows on barstools). I've spent time sitting in both areas and have been comfortable. It says something that we've brought two different sets of visitors here and everyone has enjoyed their caffeine of choice. I have to say, I love their Earl Grey lemon bars best of all. However, all the other little items we've tried have also been good. These just stand out to me since it's hard to find a good lemon bar with the perfect combination of sour and sweet. Best of all, the calming environment and tree-lined Bienville makes this a nice baby approved space. There's plenty of neighborhood parking as well.
google avatar

Kristina R.

Yelp
Cute space to grab a coffee and read or catch up. The frozen coffee was delicious and they also had some yummy food options. Looks like the also sell a bananas foster king cake along with a savory king cake. Excited to check those out!
google avatar

Tomas R.

Yelp
After seeing a few folks rave about this place (not like the raves in a warehouse with electronic music), I decided it was time for me go check it out myself. Upon driving up it was quite easy to find parking on the street which is much appreciated. This spot is great for folks who want to enjoy the outdoors as they have plenty of sitting including a few pergolas. As a wifi junkee who needs it for work, I can confidently say they have a pretty strong connection. What's more important than wifi is their coffee and food, which you can guess is just as great. I'm pretty basic with my coffee order of choice as I'm a cult follower of iced lattes; however, the espresso they utilize is superb. They make their own syrups of chocolate, vanilla, and caramel. You've gotta try one of their baked goods and I highly suggest their biscuits. The biscuit was so flaky and buttery with every bite, I could've easily devoured a few of them. If you want to make it more of a meal, add bacon and cheese for a small fee. As someone who prefers not to have actual milk in their coffee you can order your drink with oat milk. The environment is everything and I'll definitely be making this one of my rotations for different coffee spots when needing to work or destress.
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
This is the most adorable coffee shop conversion ever. I mean the roof is pretty and the ceilings are awesome. The outside is adorable. The furniture is comfy. Oh yeah, and the tea and food is yummy. I know you're supposed to go to coffee shops because of artisanal coffee or whatever, but I'm not a coffee drinker. So I appreciate that they pay some attention to tea. And the baked goods and food is very tasty. If I lived in this neighborhood, I'd probably be here everyday.
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly tidy local coffee shop in Mid City, as is our custom we arrived on bicycles. Liked the designated racks and even had an AIR PUMP ! Indoor / outdoor seating is spacious. Lovely helpful staff. FRESH decaffinated coffee for us. Almond milk HEATED was appreciated. Snacks: Lentil salad and delicious vinaigrette was REALLY good. Less so, the slightly dry savory scone could have used a chutney or ? Clean tidy place, WiFi good, lotsa locals hard at their 'work'. Would return and recommend if y'all find yerself Mid City, drop in to the STATION @ 4400 Bienville
google avatar

Camly T.

Yelp
I think this place is so cute. It looks like a little dollhouse. There is a lot of outdoor seating. It was really nice outside with an overcast sky but I could also see it being sweltering during full sun. There was one outlet in the small ivy area outside which was nice. This is a great place to work because it was fairly quiet and there was enough outlets inside. There were lots of pastries to eat too! The bathrooms inside were so pretty! They had flower wallpaper and were painted purple and pink.
google avatar

Logan T.

Yelp
Sometimes it feels weird reviewing coffee shops for me because I don't drink coffee and I feel like that's mainly what people rave about here, but as long as there's a bakery I'm always down! And this bakery lived up to the hype. The star for me was the basil shortbread cookie. My weakness is well-executed desserts that highlight herb flavors. It was not overpoweringly sweet or herby. The shortbread shined but the basil was the perfect touch. I loved it so much I ate the whole thing without taking a picture. I also have it on good foodie authority that their oatmeal cream pie looking sandwich cookie is divine. The staff was so nice and the aesthetic is so unique and charming
google avatar

Yelp
Great place for sandwiches and all sorts of coffee and tea. Staff is friendly and the atmosphere is comfortable.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little spot in mid city, with a number of indoor tables, as well as a quiet outdoor patio area. We had some tea and coffee - all tasted great!
google avatar

John V.

Yelp
This place is about 2 blocks from where I live and is my favorite place to get some coffee and relax. The staff is always awesome, their drip coffee, pour over, cold brew and espressos are amazing. The baked goods are always really good and I'm a fan of the atmosphere. Very warm and inviting and clean. The bookcase by the couch is really cool also. There's a bike rack right out front and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. If you haven't checked the station out please do!!!
google avatar

Rahnah E.

Yelp
I was really disappointed by this coffee shop. I got a gift card here for Christmas and wanted to check it out. I got a chai latte (has lots of spices in it but was notified in advance). I ordered the cheeseburger kolache and the barista gave me the shrimp one on accident. The kolache was good just not what I ordered. I also ordered one of the turkey sandwiches. The bread was rock hard and then I saw MOLD on the turkey. Not what I wanted to see... very disappointed. The barista was very nice but the food quality is not worth it. Save your money
google avatar

Daniel O.

Yelp
The coffee is amazing and the staff even better. Definitely will recommend to anyone in the area. Thank you Mindy.
google avatar

Fabrizi O.

Yelp
Sorry, but nope. Simply cannot abide a place that seems not to know what an English muffin actually is. They managed to serve up a completely devoid-of-taste "puck" that somehow even neutralized the flavor of the egg and sausage inside it. Skip! Coffee OK, sure. Chai (impossible to botch) just like anywhere else. And The Station does an admirable job with spacing customer out while inside ordering/waiting, but kinda dropped the ball on outside signage explaining where to enter, etc. And good luck ever finding outdoor seating once all the spots are claimed by a seeming endless stream of millennials glued to their phones. If that's your kinda place, go for it. Lots of worthy breakfast competition nearby, so the market is rather self-sorting, and it shows.
google avatar

Giulia H.

Yelp
The best way to describe this coffee shop is to say that it's adorable. The Station has a brightly colored roof and amazing green table "pods" (there's only three so maybe try to have someone snag a table while the others order!). Inside, you'll find an impressive array of savory (quiches and frittatas) to sweet (cookies and muffins) items and an impressive coffee menu. The entire vibe is casual, and the coffeehouse has more space for seating than you'd initially think, but the baristas bring your food to your table--which I found to be a nice touch! It's a great stop at New Orleans, and definitely is an ideal place to sit and chat with friends for a while. Would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Ted G.

Yelp
I'm not sure if it's my somewhat "bummy" appearance or what but I wasn't feeling like my patronage was welcomed at all. Stood at the counter virtually ignored by the staff as the chatted with each other. One even warmly welcomed people she knew who were standing behind me. Waited for my food to get warmed up while I got coffee creamer and went to the restroom. Staff sat my food on the counter without calling it - hadn't asked for my name - they didn't call out what it was so I had to walk over and ask. Just didn't feel like a welcomed patron. Meh. Ok food, quaint little spot but the service that I received leaves a little to be desired.

Yelp
The station is truly my favorite coffee shop to come to when I'm home from college. The workers are very sweet. The environment is beautiful. Wonderful outdoor seating. Their pastries are to die for. Get a kolache just do it! Even if it's the veggie one, and you're not a big fan of veggies.. they are all amazing. The pop tarts are also very good !

Kim D.

Yelp
Chill in the sun with an iced coffee. Weather was perfect for it. I've been here before & the service is still as the last time. Very friendly & courteous! Much appreciated.
google avatar

Julie Karen J.

Yelp
Nice little coffee shop with a good selection of baked items and coffee. We had a hot mocha with almond milk and a blended frappe with soft serve ice cream. They do not have decaf espresso. The vanilla cupcake with lemon curd was pretty good. Vegan wheat bagel could have been better. Convenient if you are going to the art museum.

Yelp
Great coffee, GF options, the food is all made by them and is AMAZING. A super cute local coffee shop. Nice people and great service.

Yelp
This coffee shop is local-friendly and also dog-friendly! It has a whole outside patio for people with dogs and nice spacious area inside for people who want to study or even play board games. Their coffee does not have any bitter or sour taste which is personally perfect for me. They also have light breakfast/lunch options for those who like to snack with their coffee!

Brooke G.

Yelp
i love this coffee shop. the coffee is good just the way it is. the food i've tried so far is unique and tasty. definitely my favorite shop out of the ones in the area.

Yelp
This is such a little hidden gem in Mid-City. It reminds me of a tiny, gingerbread house! I adore this place. My partner and I decided to try this place from hearing so many great reviews. Stepped in around 11:30 AM and was not too crazy, however there was a good amount of guests. When looking from the outside they have 3 cabanas available for extra seating, a couple of bike racks for bike parking, animal water bowls if you opt to bring your furry friend (which I encourage!) and some extra seating outside as well. Wonderful location and plenty of street parking nearby. The inside was cozy and welcoming. The 2 baristas working were so pleasant to speak with. They recommend the breakfast kolache and the earl grey lemon bar (as my friends recommended those items as well). Breakfast kolache of the day was artichoke, feta, roasted red bell pepper and scrambled eggs. Very good! The earl grey lemon bar--I WISH I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT 10 OF THESE BAD BOYS! The flavor is outstanding and the crust is just right. Bravo pastry team! The coffee is killer here. Made with love and just the perfect amount of caffeine. I chose the iced coffee and it was so refreshing. 100% would recommend this little gem to anyone in the Mid-City area looking to venture out and try something new.

Yelp
Really torn about another glowing review. Wish I could keep this place a secret. It's that good. New in town and really pleased with the Cafe culture here --way better than where we just came from. And the Station is the best we've found. Coffee is delicious; the space is awesome; WiFi is good; all good things. What puts it over the top is two things. One, it's really a bakery. And the things they bake there.... Wow, just wow. Two, the owners and the staff are just such cool people. The place can get absolutely mobbed and they work hard to take care of everyone as if they're the most important in the world. It's worth waiting for.
