The Study at University of Chicago

I had a wonderful stay at The Study! The staff at the hotel and restaurant provided 5-star service. The rooms were spacious, clean, and well-appointed, making them feel brand new. The bed was very comfortable. Additionally, the gym was top-notch, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I don't hand out these accolades easily, but it was well-deserved for my stay!

My husband was schedule to have surgery at University of Chicago medical--during Christmas week. We stayed at the Study so I could walk (15 mins) to the hospital during the day, or take a quick Lyft at night (4 mins). ||The Study is an lovely hotel. Lots of relaxing areas to sit in the lobby. We were greeted by friendly staff manager, Cornelius (I hope I got his name right). He was welcoming; he mades sure we knew all the amenities of the hotel and the hours for Truth Be Told restaurant. ||The Truth Be Told restaurant has lots of nice options (a bit pricey). Note: the kitchen closes in the mid afternoon and opens back up at 5pm. Bar is open at 4pm. ||The only thing the rooms don't have is a mini fridge. This was disappointing (for I couldn't save leftovers or do any small shopping for the week). ||I'd stay again, but I'll have to bring a cooler to keep food. The room does have a safe. The cleaning staff were so kind and brought anything we needed. ||It's a cozy place to stay if you're visiting The University of Chicago or the hospital. I highly recommend it.

This was my first time to stay at The Study. The staff was courteous, welcoming, professional and truly aiming to please. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back! The entire hotel was immaculate and the room was very comfortable with a great view. The gardens are also a wonderful touch. Thanks for your hospitality!

Specifically in town for U Chicago event. Perfect location to campus. Extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and courteous staff! I had left some toiletries, and they were quick to offer replacements and/or the location of a market nearby to acquire anything else. Staff extremely helpful in holding our luggage as we attended our event at U Chicago after check-out and provided directions to another location, we inquired about visiting. Room was a little warm when we arrived, and they immediately sent someone to the room to assist in adjusting the thermostat that apparently, I was having difficulty managing. Didn't realize there was no refrigerator in the room. That would have been nice. Shower was amazing. Parking was confusing for me since I am not from a metropolitan city. The garage was extremely close, safe and well lit. Felt very comfortable walking to and from the garage. Felt very safe in this area. We walked a ton during night and daylight! Thank you for all your hospitality! We will be back.

I love this hotel. Although the staff forgot to call me when my room was ready. I don't want to base my experience off this one person. We did end up with a room that didn't have air, but there was this AMAZING gentleman, he was the maintenance guy ( his name escapes me, long hair, Aquaman build)that helped. He even got our new keys and moved us to the next room. The room had a spectacular view and since we were visiting, he gave us recommendations about food and bars. I like the fact that they had tea and coffee in the mornings. We will be back.

Picking up our daughter from UChi. The FOH staff was kind and easy to work with, solving any questions we had. Early AM coffee with great ambiance. The bartender was funny, quick and knowledgable. The views, spectacular. Off street parking was easy. walkable to so many things.

I absolutely loved my experience at The Study during my workshop attendance at the University of Chicago. Indisputably my best hotel experience. The staff are just so willing to help. The only slight negative is that there is no complimentary breakfast, save tea and coffee, but asides that, everything is perfect.

Had a great stay! The rooms were perfect, it felt very safe and quiet and it is the perfect location if you have something at U Chicago! Could see the new Obama presidential library from my room!

As a first-time visitor to The Study-coffee shop, on the University of Chicago campus, I was thoroughly impressed by this charming coffee shop scene. It's an excellent spot if you're looking for a quiet yet communal space to work, or in my case, meet a new friend for the first time. The ambiance is just right--calm and conducive to both productivity and relaxed conversation. Parking was surprisingly easy for a sunny Saturday morning, which is a plus anywhere in Chicago I started my visit with a few cups of coffee; while I didn't try the food this time, I'm definitely planning to return for it soon. The menu looked enticing, and I can't wait to pair my next visit with a good book. Overall, The Study provides a perfect blend of solitude and community. Whether you're looking to get some work done or simply enjoy a quiet moment with a friend, this coffee shop is an ideal choice. Highly recommended!

You pay for the location. For convience to U of C campus, it cannot be beat, but I just don't find a standing only shower to be that nice/lux. At least all the fixtures seem new and well maintained. Clean.

I was dangerously close to giving this boutique hotel 4 stars, but the hood so far outweighs the 3 "points to grow on" that I had to go ahead and give a 5 (at least until Yelp gives us the .5 star option). The lobby is replete with cushy comfortable furnishings, and they have some nice little banquet room space on the second floor. My group had a function there and the food and beverage staff were top notch (Catalina, Gus and Jose were particularly exceptional). Point to grow on #1: the elevators require a key to swipe and go to any floors above one - even to the 2nd floor with the banquet rooms. This is odd because you can also take the stairs to the 2nd floor - so why the extra elevator security?! The front desk staff were nice and helpful and did whatever they could to make the stay comfortable. Front desk supervisor Tiffany was especially nice. Angela in the sales office was great too and made sure our group was happy at every turn. I should also note that on the side of the hotel is a peaceful little Zen-esque garden space. It is very inviting and relaxation-invoking. Now to the rooms. Upon walking in it is easy to be amazed. They are clean, spacious, and have big picture windows with great views of either downtown and/or the University of Chicago campus. My room was called a King Study and, like the name, it had a cute study nook with lounge chairs, a work desk, and a book shelf with many books to peruse. The bathroom was also very nice. Point 2 to grow on: for such an upscale feel, the toilet paper reminded me of a budget hotel - very sand papery hard. This was odd given they had such nice vegetable soap and fragrance shampoo. Improving the paper quality should be a no brainer. Lastly point 3: there was a hand print on the wall when I came in, and more the dirty hand as opposed to the artwork variety. It was right at the entrance so I'm surprised the cleaning crew missed it - I saw it immediately. Minor points aside, if you're in the area, this is a Must Stay hotel!!!

On Saturday, July 20th we checked into The Study. I booked this room months in advance and about a week prior to our arrival, I received an email from the hotel asking what time to expect us. I replied that we would be there at approximately noon, and they let me know that they would look forward to seeing us then. When we arrived a couple minutes after noon, I was informed by the front desk that our room was not yet ready. I asked for an ETA and the employee explained that she could not provide one because she had just gotten there. While frustrating, this did not seem like a big deal since check in at hotels is frequently after 1 PM- however, I was confused as to why they sent me an email asking when to expect us. We waited in the lobby for nearly 2 hours until we were informed that our room was ready for us. Upon entering the room, it was clear that it had been hastily cleaned. Many surfaces were dirty, grimy, or smudgy- which raised concerns about how sanitary it was. We went out for the day and arrived back at the hotel at approximately 1 AM for bed. When I went to roll down the shades, I noticed that there were two rollers, but one of them was bare (missing a curtain). To my unfortunate surprise, I was awakened at about 6 AM when the sun rose. It was the blackout curtain that was missing (see photos). Let me conclude this review by saying that had this been a $150 hotel room, I would have been disappointed but not felt the need to voice it. However, I paid over $240 in total for a single night in what can only be described as sub-par, less than mediocre suite. I would not recommend this hotel.

4.5 stars It was great to be back in Chicago again. Unfortunately, the not so pleasant thing was the price of hotels during the first weekend of June! With graduations galore, all the hotels we looked at had ridiculously high rates. I initially booked an Airbnb, but discovered this fairly new hotel perfectly situated on campus of the University of Chicago. Of course, I promptly canceled my Airbnb reservation and booked my stay here! It was still quite pricey, but not as bad as all the other hotels we saw previously. The good: + Aesthetically pleasing living room-style lobby with writing station + C.O. Bigelow products + Two bottles of water with glass cups + Leather reading chair with ottoman + Wooden luggage rack + Dual solar roller shades + Extra long towels (may not completely cover up if you have a long torso) + Other amenities: TV, hairdryer, iron, safe and Wifi + Ginger snap cookies upon check-in (took two each day because they were THAT good). + Books from NYC's famed Strand bookstore + Complimentary food and beverages during convocation (morning: coffee/tea and pastries; mid-day: popcorn, charcuterie, Moon Pies and wine) + Truth Be Told Tavern - British pub-inspired restaurant (sad we didn't get a chance to check out their offerings) + Courteous, friendly and accommodating staff + Very clean and spacious The bad: - No bathrobes even though it was stated on their website - Pillows were way too soft - No mini fridge - Wardrobe with 5-6 hangers, but very short rod extending over the depth rather than the width - No outlets on both sides of the nightstands - Nightstands does not have actual drawers Points of interest: * 8.7 miles from the Midway International Airport (closest one) * 20-minute walk to Cottage Grove (closest subway station) * 12-minute walk to Jewel-Osco (closest grocery store) * 10-minute walk to UChicago/59th St (closest train stop) * 10-minute walk to Jackson Park It's clear that this type of hotel is aimed towards a very niche group: scholars or a prospective student and their parents. Seeing as it's university-focused, this hotel brand doesn't offer a loyalty rewards program. I would absolutely recommend The Study for its optimal accessibility to the university or even to anyone interested staying within the Hyde Park neighborhood. Overall, we had a lovely stay at The Study.

Finding a hotel in Chicago was a reasonable price was really tricky, but I stumbled upon The Study and it seemed nice online, so we decided to book it. It was a bit far from the downtown area, but if you have a car and are willing to drive it's not that bad - plus you get to drive along the lake! The hotel staff was super friendly when we arrived. We left our car in the driveway while we brought our stuff upstairs and the front desk workers answered all of our questions. We were even able to get a fridge brought up to the room and they also have microwaves by request. The room was large and had a nice bed (a bit low to the ground), a great tv, a desk (ours overlooked the park), and a comfy leather chair & ottoman. The shower felt very luxurious with great water pressure and the towels were very fluffy. We were very impressed by the room and it still had a that new room smell! The lobby felt like a library with bookshelves and a living room type area created for guests to relax. A few additional perks were that you can park for free across the street! The hotel also offered some breakfast items in the morning in the lobby - a pastry tray, croissants, yogurt, coffee, and tea.

Good food and good service. Nice atmosphere. The eggs are fluffy and the potatoes are slightly crispy. I've been twice and would recommend it.

This Hotel and its Staff has been outstanding. Terron, Tiffany, Rob, Lex, Jason and Jaun the doorman. They all helped make it an amazing stay for us during very stressful visits to the Hospital. The place was already amazing and calming, but the staff made it even more relaxing. We needed that. Thank you.

Service was terrible the sales manager was very unreliable and wasn't specific with prices nor our room set up I believe her name was Mariah she was not very helpful at all not to mention the lobby reeked of marijuana as we walked up to the service desk

Wonderful NEW hotel with perfect location to visit University of Chicago. Staff was incredibly courteous friendly and helpful. We were taken care of by Latrice who went out of her way to make sure we had a wonderful visit! We were within a two minute walk to campus. Big rooms with comfortable beds and they even brought in a mini refrigerator for us. Continental breakfast in the morning was perfect and very convenient. Highly recommend.

I hesitate to let the cat out of the bag on this one, but this is a fantastic hotel! And they are just getting started, as a restaurant is on the way too. First, the location couldn't be better for anyone involved with UChicago. It was mere yards away from the orientation events we were attending. Next, the theme of a cozy study is really well done and makes for an immediate calm comfort level. The staff, every one we came in contact with, was smiling and helpful and knew their stuff. The breakfast muffins were welcome, and the daily snacks were a very nice surprise! Finally, the room was beautiful and seemed put together by someone who really knows hospitality. A couple of things that I'm sure they will iron out include the hallways too warm (figuring out Chicago weather temps is certainly a challenge ) and there could be more overhead lighting in the room (though opening the shades solved that issue during the day). The shades (double shades-brilliant! ) were a terrific touch, btw. I hope they expand to other colleges we visit too, but for sure We will return here! Thanks!
