The Eccentric Inns of England

"Among the chief attractions of the Suffolk seaside town of Southwold is the Adnams brewery and distillery, and the Swan is the Adnams extension into the world of hospitality. This is a very thorough renovation of a classic hotel, leaving its Georgian façade in its original form and updating the interiors in a vibrant, playful style reminiscent of some of England’s finer country-house hotels." - Mark Fedeli

The Swan Hotel, a Design Boutique Hotel Southwold, United Kingdom

"This 4-star hotel is in Southwold town centre, 200 metres from the beach. It offers free parking, two restaurants, a butler service and free WiFi throughout. The Swan Hotel compliments many of it's original 18th century features. All bedrooms have a Nespresso machine, 40 inch smart TV, a wireless speaker and a mini bar. Some rooms feature Apple TV. All bedrooms in the main building have four poster beds and garden rooms have their own private patios and a view of Southwold Lighthouse. The Swan Hotel also accommodates two on-site restaurants, The Still Room and The Tap Room, which showcases Adnams’ beers, brewed less than 50 metres away. Southwold high street features a range of local independent shops and the hotel is ideally located for exploring the town and surrounding area. The reception team can book tours of Adnams Brewery and Distillery for residents, as well as other local attractions." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

This is a very thorough renovation of a classic hotel, leaving its Georgian façade in its original form and updating the interiors in a vibrant, playful style reminiscent of some of England’s finer country-house hotels; the rooms prominently feature antique-style furniture in ultra-modern colors. The Tap Room bar, naturally, is the hotel’s social center, while the Still Room presents a slightly more refined take on modern British cooking." - Tablet Hotels

Glen K - Silent Takeover

Stayed here on a recent visit to Southwold. Top quality and 5 star (would give more if I could!) All staff were incredibly polite, friendly and professional. Very high quality service. Accommodation was also stunning and well maintained (we stayed in one of the garden rooms.) Then onto the food 🤤 we ate both in the evening as well as breakfast the following morning. We ate in the main restaurant, high end food and price but again the quality of food as well as the service was stunning. Also had a few of the cocktails which went down all too easily! Breakfast and service the following morning was of equal quality. I would certainly stay here again and would highly recommend!

We have just experienced an absolutely amazing short stay at the Swan Hotel in Southwold. The hotel is very impressive, comfortable and ideally placed. The food was superb but overall what stood out most, for us, is the staff. From the first contact via a courtesy call, to the reception staff, those in the Tap room, those serving breakfast and the friendly, delightful maid. What a team! Hospitality at it's absolute finest. We will be returning.

We had a spacious, comfortable and well-furnished room with a view to the sea. The bed was very comfortable and the lighting was good. There was a kettle, coffee machine and a complimentary (small) bottle of Adnams gin. The large bathroom had a bath with shower and two basins, shampoo, conditioner and body wash and body lotion. |Breakfast was excellent and the service was exemplary. |There is a car park for guests.

Good hotel in centre of town so you can walk everywhere. Close to the beach. Rooms are comfortable and clean, good sized bathroom. Service is good and free parking. Restaurant is surprisingly good and the food and service is excellent. The hotel is next to Adman’s brewery so the beer, wines and spirits are all spot on.

Had a lovely relaxing stay. First time visiting and it won’t be our last. I was treated to two nights for my birthday weekend. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. Our room was really lovely and the bed super comfortable. Breakfasts and dinners were delicious. Didn’t want to leave, as also loved Southwold. Thanks for a great stay!

Had a lovely one night stay at Easter. Able to park securely in hotel carpark. Beautiful room with a sea view. Great room facilities and really appreciated the free gin and great flavour tea selection. We ate at the hotel. Exceptional food and ambience. The staff were amazing and helpful. I definitely have pencilled this in for a return visit.

Disappointing, especially after a good review in UK times. I had a garden room which was a good size, but very thin curtains let in too much light and there was inadequate space for the kettle and coffee maker. The shower was over a small tub, good pressure but not very safe. Breakfast could be much enhanced by better bread and pastries, dull sliced white is just lazy

Went for a birthday evening meal. Food was excellent, service with a smile. Atmosphere was superb. A wonderful time was had by all.
