My bowl was really good and really filling. I had steak with pretty much all the toppings and the elote on the side. Their salsa station is 10/10 and they have pickled onions there too. Once my bowl was mixed up and had salsa added..I was in heaven. Prices are great here and they have indoor/outdoor seating. *I mixed my elote into my bowl, give it a try!

Google
Stopped in for a quick breakfast bite and was not disappointed! Service was friendly, tacos were DELICIOUS (great flour tortillas), and the atmosphere was excellent for us, on account of the cutesy space and take me back to the 90s Tejano jams playing. Can't wait to return to try out lunch or dinner options!

Google
The food was amazing. And they give you great portions and reasonable pricing. It was a busy night so I guess that would lead to the staff not being very excited or personable. Yet, I still say that you should bring a date or friends to enjoy this experience.

Google
I’ve been going here since they opened, every single experience has been perfect. This is by the same people who run the burger joint so you know they do it right. Staff is super friendly and helpful, food is flavorful and big portions. Plus, they have a salsa bar with all their homemade salsas. If you haven’t gone go !!!!!!!!!

Their was a plastic in my food and I didn’t notice until I took a bite , I was disgusted and threw both of my tacos away because I was not hungry anymore after that.

UPDATE: Although this review was left 4 years ago, I wanted to update that, despite the owner Matthew's response under the original review, they never responded to my attempt to contact them. Meh. A very mediocre and overpriced street food meal. We like The Burger Joint, so we thought we would give The Taco Stand a try during its opening week. The service was good, and we were glad that there was a drive-through. It was pretty packed in the restaurant that would make social distancing pretty difficult if we were to go inside and pick up the food. The tacos are $2.50 a piece for corn tortillas, which is 67% higher in price than other taco stands. I guess there's a location/atmosphere premium. We would be okay with that if the tacos came with cilantro and onions like the menu states. Instead, we got sad tacos with only meat. The meats were decent enough, but the tacos lack textures due to the absence of toppings. The nopales taco was especially disappointing without toppings. The supreme burrito was supposed to come with pico de gallo and cream, but neither was in our burrito. The jamaica agua fresca was not fresh and had very little jamaica taste. Maybe these were opening week fails, but we would not recommend The Taco Stand due to the above.

Google
I came in and ordered two mushrooms tacos. But the skinny girl at the window had such a bad attitude. She put beef tacos in place of my vegan taco. How such of an inslute.

Candice Gonzales

Google
Ordered the fish taco for the first time. My excitement for this was replaced with heart break. I took a photo of the smallest fish taco I've ever gotten. Ill make sure to request a piece bigger than my finger. I only tasted the tortilla and cabbage. Bigger pieces or put 2 pieces maybe.

Yelp
The incredible girth of each breakfast taco continues to impress me and my friend every time we order them. Like, it is a defining characteristic of this establishment--consistent and generous servings fit to pleasure my ravenous self each week. I've become a different person after my first bite. I often remember why I was placed on this earth. I love the Taco Stand.

Crystal A.

Yelp
Taco stand was amazing! I had a bowl with chicken and added avocado and it was delicious! Inalso had queso and chips which were fresh and tasty. My son had a chicken taco and a quesadilla and said it was the best he's had. The staff was very attentive and nice. Taco stand will be seeing us again soon!

Yelp
I got a shrimp burrito delivered through Uber eats. I didn't like that I had to pay extra for the salsa but that may be Uber specific. The rice was too salty for me but otherwise the burrito was delicious. The ingredients were fresh and it was full of shrimp. The jalepeno salsa was the perfect amount of spicy. I'd order again!

Yelp
Taco Stand is a hit and miss. I've had some amazing dining experiences and not so great! Pros: Open late night Drive thru Reasonable Prices Good service Cons: Hit and Miss (sometimes really good and randomly a bad day) Birria Taco:10 Burrito: 9 Taco: Brisket 0 (nothing, but fat see photo)

Yelp
It was okay. We got the monthly special which was the steak and eggs with caramelized onions. Had a huge piece of burnt idk in the taco. Took a bite thinking it was a caramelized onion. It was not. Tortilla was good. Steak was decent. Eggs were good. The saddest part is they didn't give us any salsa. Womp.

Yelp
Just had an awesome experience at The Taco Stand in the Heights! This place oozes coolness with its chill vibe and unique concept. We dove into the carne asada with avocado salsa and the al pastor, and oh my, were they bursting with flavor! It felt like a fiesta in my mouth! The fresh tortilla chips and the house made queso were also super good and flavorful. Plus, the ambiance was perfect for kicking back, sipping drinks, and catching the game on their flat screen TVs. Count us in for round two - can't wait to dive back into those tacos!

Michael G.

Yelp
We've had some really good food from here but they definitely do have their off days. The person at the drive through could not pronounce a single thing on the menu correctly and could not understand what we were trying to order and we ended up having to order items that were easy for him to understand. I understand people not being able to pronunciation certain Spanish words, but this was pretty bad and I'm 100% sure every person that ordered through the drive through tonight felt the same way. Once we got home and started, we were surprised to find a piece of aluminum inside the quesadilla we got. The rest of the food we got was okay, not as good as previous visits.

Issa A.

Yelp
we made a online ordering my husband ask for a Supreme Burrito add cheese, no onion, no pico. The burrito don't have the extra cheese. and I ask for a grilled shrimp quesadilla add mushroom, the plate is something with lettuce, beans, avocado, not a single shrimp and of course this is not a quesadilla, terrible service.

Yelp
After flying in from chilly Minnesota, the Taco Stand is the standard first stop when visiting family here. A well-shaded patio with lots of fans is the perfect setting to greet Houston in her more temperate moods. The tacos are good! Normally I would go for a classic street taco corn tortilla, but their flour tortillas are especially fresh. The el pastor was delicious; and I will be back next time for more of the delicious chips and queso and another frozen margarita!!! Oh and they have a nice selection of sauces and garnishes - a trait of the best "taco stands." But that's not to comment on how it stands up against the taco competition, there is a lot of it. Maybe it's not a top foodie spot - and if you're a taco enthusiast this is just one choice of many. but a terrific patio lunch for sure. PS: there's also a place called The Burger Joint, and The Car Wash, both within a block ... what "The" will Houston Heights get next? "The Ice Cream Parlor," "The Pizza Shoppe," or "The Mezcal Den" ??

Yelp
The Taco Stand is great if you're craving some fast, basic Mexican food. They have all the basics for fair prices, and the drive thru is very convenient and goes much faster than you'd expect. I've tried the beef quesadilla and chips and queso and have been happy with both. Don't forget to ask for salsa!
google avatar

Yelp
We tried this place out since it's right next to the burger joint and we like them. The service was quick and friendly, and overall not too expensive. I split a queso and chips & the birria tacos (3 of them) which my bf. The queso is pretty good and enough for 2 people if y'all both have something else to eat too. The birria was good, I don't have much to compare it to but I enjoyed it. I also got the elote because I can't pass it up when I see it on a menu. It was just okay, I've had better at a lot of places, wouldn't get it again. Overall it was good, we'll come back because we have reward points too lol. We biked, but couldn't find anywhere to hook up our bikes. There's lots outdoor seating. And the parking lot is huge because it connects with the burger joint parking.

Yelp
My friend and I decided to grab breakfast from The Taco Stand on a Saturday morning and I'm so glad we did! Their patio is dog friendly and provides a very casual atmosphere! Because of the fans and the open air seating, it was still pleasant on the hot day (early enough in the day). My friend ordered a Chorizo & Egg Burrito and I ordered a Bacon, Egg & Cheese Burrito. The Chorizo & Egg burrito was too spicy for my liking but my friend loved his order and thought it was perfect. I also appreciated that they had a little stand of ready to grab salsas and toppings. Most of the salsas and items were again too spicy for me but were loved by others (I'm a wimp with spicy). We both agreed we will be back for the delicious food and also the nice atmosphere!

Yelp
Vibe- If you've heard of or been to The Burger Joint, this place is the taco version of that! What I loved is that they have plenty of vegetarian options on the menu :) they have a patio area full of tables so I'd imagine eating there is always an option! Customer service- Great! Food/drinks- I got the chips n guacamole (some of the best I've ever had)and the mushroom tacos come with cilantro and onions: full of flavor ; everything was delicious! Parking- They have a lot with a good amount of spots

Yelp
Such a vibe . Good Mexican tejano music playing . I'm here around 10:07 am . And music jamming. Tacos were absolutely delicious. We order four tacos and two Mexicans cokes for less than 25$ bucks not bad at all . Located in the height's. Parking is fair . I recommend the barbbocoa tacos . Not dry at all . Tortillas are freshly made . Outside seating . Domestic bottles and frozen margaritas . Wonder drunk list menu to choose from . See my pics for more details

Yelp
Better than I expected honestly. SUPREME BURRITO $9.99 - [choice of meat (I got barbacoa), rice, beans, onions, cilantro, pico de gallo, sour cream]- There was a good amount of meat, not just rice. It was actually pretty tender and flavorful. The burrito was HUGE (especially for the price), I split it w/ the boyfriend. Everything else in it was really good too. GRILLED SHRIMP QUESADILLA $11.99 - came with 4 slices. At first, I was kind of skeptical when my bf ordered this, but I was pleasantly surprised. The shrimp had a good grill/char flavor. The shrimp were small, but they at least had a full layer of them. Could've used a bit more cheese though. The quesadilla was good but not sure if I would return for this. CHIPS & QUESO $4.99 - huge basket of chips and plenty of queso (took leftovers home). The chips are the thick kind if you like that. They were so addicting... I couldn't stop eating them. There's a small parking lot shared with The Burger Joint. Lots of cars went through the drive-thru compared to dining in. There's an outdoor patio section (way too hot right now even w/ all the fans) and an indoor part (the flies were a little annoying though).

Yelp
Very good tacos. I live the Jacima hibiscus drink and the migas for breakfast. It makes me feel like I'm on vacation while eating under the covered patio. Great homeade chips The shrimp tacos can use spicy mayo or some kind of creamy sauce bec that one was just a little dry. But overall love it!

Yelp
Came here after an evening out for a quick bite. This might be my new favorite taco place. Birria tacos are super tasty. Next time I'd get the burrito. Had a bite and it was amazing.

Yelp
I love going for breakfast to The Taco Stand! I like the Huevos a la Mexicana burrito and their Cafe Mexicano!! I have to try their Happy Hour, it looks good!
google avatar

Keila B.

Yelp
Dined in for dinner and ordered four burritos to-go. The ordering experience was quite easy and I only waited about 15 minutes for the order to be ready. I was offered water while waiting, and before I could order chips and salsa to snack on, the order was ready. All in all, we ordered two Carnitas burritos and two Carne Asada burritos. I will say that was the MOST EXQUISITE Carnitas burrito I have ever had!!!! The Carnitas was cooked to perfection, falling off the bone, licking your fingers, wanting more, good. Beyond exquisite!! Everything was homemade fresh, including the tortilla on the burrito, and the rice and beans that were slabbed on there as well. I will definitely return to the taco stand, because that was next-level carnitas. This tasted like my tio made it during our family reunions-- I definitely recommend The Taco Stand for authentic Mexican cuisine.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Really solid food and beverage selections. Frozen margaritas are delicious and strong. Wide range of salsas to choose from for your tacos. Reasonably priced. The service was good considering it's an order at the window type place. The atmosphere is outdoor/covered patio type seating.
google avatar

Gabriela Q.

Yelp
Ambiance was nice. There was a bit of a line when we arrived but it moved fairly quickly. They have a good selection of Mexican tap beers (modelo, negra modelo, pacifico and corona). Burrito 3/5: nothing special. Tacos 2/5: carne asada was cold and not much flavor. Al pastor was okay. Barbacoa needed salt but aside from that, it was okay. Chips n' queso 4/5: chips were yummy and fresh. Queso Also had good flavor. Price was reasonable considering the actual quantity of each taco/burrito so no biggie. Wouldn't go out of my way to come here when I crave tacos but if I'm in the area, I may consider stopping by.

Yelp
Taco Stand has become one of my go to places for breakfast tacos! The first time I tried it I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the tortillas. My favorite is the potato and egg taco, but other choices like egg and brisket or a la mexicana are great choices too. The plethora of hot sauces also elevates the tacos. My family loves to grab breakfast tacos when they're in town (and we're a taco snob kind of family). Staff is usually very friendly. Thanks Taco Stand for the excellent tacos!
google avatar

Mark W.

Yelp
Solid 5. Your're not finding breakfast tacos this good unless you're in the Rio Grande Valley.
google avatar

William L.

Yelp
Decent parking options for the heights with Burger Joint next door. Also features a drive-thru and online order options. Very casual atmosphere on the patio, the tables can be busy depending on time of day/night and generally people to keep it relative clean and there are staff that comes around. I tried out the Supreme Burrito (Carne asada) with added Guac, generous amount of meant and a good balance of rice/beans/pico de gallo. I like their selections of salsas/garnishes and also various alcoholic drinks y aguas frescas. (margaritas specials from 3-6 pm, check out their menu) Overall, It's a good place in the heights for a decent priced meal and drink on the patio (or sobering up after barhopping). The food is nothing special compared to a lot of other Mexican/TexMex places, but for the heights it can be a great option especially since they open late (Midnight everyday). Stop by and check it out if you're in the area!
google avatar

Emma D.

Yelp
I loveeeee taco stand. It's our go to spot after soccer games & it's also my favorite place to go after night shift to get a breakfast burrito. Have not been disappointed so far. They have a great selection of salsas to choose from. They also have alcohol. The only thing is the parking lot is still a little weird with the construction but otherwise no issues.
google avatar

Jenny N.

Yelp
Food was great! I got the campechano taco, pastor taco, chorizo and egg taco, and elotes. The rojo sauce was really good with the tacos, and the food came out super fast.
google avatar

Kayla K.

Yelp
I ordered 4 breakfast tacos and they were so small for $4.50 each! I had also paid $.79 to add potatoes so the taco should have been more full. It had just 4 potato cubes. They tasted great but are a ripoff for your money.

Laz D.

Yelp
This spot is awesome. The food here is delicious and has great vegetarian options too. Salsas are on point and the green sauce is a must.
google avatar

Alena B.

Yelp
Fast food service in the heart of the Heights. Right next to Burger Joint, Taco Stand is a really chill spot offering fresh ingredients and expedited service. They have HH at 3, $1 off drafts, cheap margaritas, & more. Drive through option available for tacos on the go. Lots of variety and unique flavor profiles. I tried the mushroom and nopales taco. I also got the Jamaica (hibiscus) drink. Burritos, bowls, & quesadillas are also served here. Their covered patio seating gives a homey experience for people to relax and unwind. Their music was the star of the show and made me feel like I was on vacation. Really cool place.
google avatar

Lisa N.

Yelp
First stop in Houston calls for tacos! I thought this was the same franchise as the Taco Stand in San Diego? Or am I wrong? Parking lot is shared with the burger joint next door. This place has a drive-thru window. This building looked like it had some history to it. What I ordered: 1 shrimp, 1 fish, 1 al pastor, and 1 carne asada. Good size tacos and loaded with toppings! My fave was the carne asada and al pastor. Fair price per taco. Staff were all very nice and the place was clean. Salsa bar is well maintained and organized!! Packaged mini to-go salsas. Great shaded outdoor patio seating.
google avatar

Jodie Q.

Yelp
I stopped at this place to get some food to go. The parking situation is sort of a nightmare but the place looks like a chill vibe. It was very busy though. I ordered a burrito with beef fajita and also ordered a side of rice, beans, and elote. Although the burrito was tasty. I didn't get my rice or elote (corn in a cup) which totaled $10 for both those items that were missed. I'll try this place again but hopefully they will give me those two items for free since I paid for them and didn't receive them.
google avatar

Janhvi I.

Yelp
Good food, easy service and very casual ambiance. Great spot for late night tacos, would definitely recommend this place!
google avatar

Kehmia T.

Yelp
stopped here before bingo Ordered via Uber eats & picked up the order since I was in the area- very convenient. Got the queso and quesabirria. Both pretty good. Birria could've been a bit more flavorful but still good nonetheless. If I'm ever in the area, I'll come back and try other items on the menu.

Nila G.

Yelp
Food was great! The cashier was friendly and hospitable. Music great! Fantastic ambianc! All was good unti...I went to pick up our food from the window. I asked where the legua taco was and she stated (sarcastically) all your tacos are there (as she names the Shrimp, nopales and lengua). I asked to please separate them and she said I didn't 'specif'y'. I was thrown off by her response. I walked away and asked to speak to the manager. Then I find out it was HER (Yosalynn). I I'd state I'd be posting and she said go ahead. These new "managers" really need training on how to treat customer. Rude, rude, rude!
google avatar

Naomi H.

Yelp
Best lengua tacos in HTX The whole place is super cool and low key vibe, they have agua horchata and Jamaica and of course a good variety of tacos I also had the elote and was very delicious, been here 3 times already and planning to keep coming
google avatar

Carlos W.

Yelp
Tried this place a few times over the last 5 to 6 months. I have to say that the more you try this place the more you realize it's not that great. I still think the tacos are decent, but last night I tried the refried beans and a quesadilla with barbacoa. Quesadilla - greasy and bland, both the meat and cheese seemed to be lacking in flavor Refried beans - no real flavor just salty to the taste and almost a chicken broth taste to it, pretty horrible I also got one of their specials which was chicken pozole. The pozole was awesome. The tortilla chips they give you with them were also very good. Overall this place is still better than taco bell, but nothing special in my opinion.
google avatar

J. Antonio H.

Yelp
Update running errands decided on Taco Wednesday. I opted for veggie burrito. It was big enough to share. My friend who is flexitarian, but picks mushrooms off every thing, but she loved them here . My new favourite bite. The service outstanding young woman at drive through telling about locality discounts and happy hour . Remember if someone wants to limit your tacos to Tuesday, they are too negative, get say from them visited 30.06.23 great service my pup is still being trained Yang woman just petted my over eager pup. The fooa outstanding good margarita . Stop ll one my go too's in an area chuffed with good choices.

Valeriano O.

Yelp
I ate here yesterday. Ordered barbacoa, pork skin and beef tacos, tongue burrito, pork quesadillas and corn elotes. All Tacos were really good, quesadillas so-so, elotes meh and tongue burrito pretty good. Tongue Burrito need more flavors and beef tacos pretty dry. I read reviews of small tacos and burritos and that they are stingy with giving meats. That was not the case with me, they gave generous meats on top of my tacos and burritos was huge with many slices of tongue inside, so kudos to them. Price reasonable, would definitely recommend to try at least. Taste 6.75/10 Price 7.5/10

Katie M.

Yelp
Solid texican taco spot. The birria is delicious! Lots of good parking and seating, and a burger place next door if your group can't decide on one place.
google avatar

Tannis V.

Yelp
Pretty decent place. Unless you come 30 minutes before they close. The line of 4 cars will take forever and your food will be missing stuff and not well made. I didn't think it was possible to mess up a quesadilla but they did
google avatar

Karina R.

Yelp
The burritos are so big and stuffed! It's really good and the vibe of the place is cool!
google avatar

Eydsa L.

Yelp
An all time favorite go-to spot for the food, ambience, and staff all around. Very convenient. Always good service.

James F.

Yelp
Terrible place and staff. Go to any other taco place. Also was 5 min late and they can't crack eggs for breakfast tacos. Shits lame
google avatar

Elizabeth O.

Yelp
Finally tried this after hearing great reviews and it was really good! I had a brisket taco and a shrimp taco, both were tasty. Much larger than the average taco size and the brisket taco was filled to the brim with brisket. Could easily have been 2 tacos. My only complaint is the brisket wasn't as tender as I would have liked, but it was still very tasty. I loveeeee that they have a drive through as well, makes service super easy.

Yelp
After a successful Sunday Funday in the Heights, we needed a little something in our bellies to end the night. At that time of the night, all you want is something quick and easy. What better place than a taqueria or in this case, The Taco Stand. I already knew it was going to be awesome because it is the same company as The Burger Joint. I was thinking it was going to be some very Tex-Mex type taco, but these tacos were pretty authentic. I went with a couple of carne asada tacos and a pastor taco. They do not skimp on the perfectly seasoned, delicious filling and the tortillas were great as well. We shared some chips and queso which was a generous portion as well and very tasty. Another thing I really enjoyed was some of their salsas. They have a salsa bar with individual portions of salsa and extra condiments. Their habanero salsa was not only delicious, but it packed some really good heat that I love. If this place was closer to me, I could see myself hitting them up often. I will definitely be keeping them in my rotation when in the Heights!
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
Not great, undercooked tortilla and terrible flavor. Shrimp was the size of my thumb nail. Overall, not worth it. I feel like I would pull the Ron Swanson move when offered vegan bacon. I'd throw this food in the trash so others don't have to eat it.

Justin D.

Yelp
Burritos are good. 1 star since the prices for some adders ring higher than advertised on the menu and they also prompt for a tip despite being a fast food counter service restaurant.
google avatar

Benjamin P.

Yelp
If you love tortillas, this is the place to get them. They'll sell them to you by the dozen, and I could just eat those and be happy! But I love their quesadillas too - they are very generous with the cheese - a quesadilla lover's dream! The salsa bar is delicious and spicy, and there's even a nice covered patio to sit on with fans, but an inside area too.
google avatar

Christine P.

Yelp
I can't believe I didn't try this place sooner, but I was looking for a good taco joint around The Heights area! I stumbled upon this place with my friend after we did a workout. It opens late and is a nice casual place, which I really like. It's mainly outdoor seating. We went at night, so the weather felt great. Loved that they have TV's on with the Astros game playing to watch also. You go up to the stand to order and then they give you a buzzer to pick up your food when it goes off. I tried the barbacoa and chicharron tacos on corn tortilla. It was so delicious. I had 3 tacos and I was super full. We also got a regular horchata, which was honestly a very generous size. It tasted so great. I'm definitely going to be coming back.

Yelp
I wish the prices were a little cheaper, especially since I want to try everything. But the food is great!!! My only complaint is the amount of grease they add to the brisket. I hate salty gel in my food!! The breakfast is okay. I recommend the burritos, they last longer and they have more meat. The chips are fresh anytime you get them, go for it!!
