The Taco Stop

This place lives up to the hype. I just moved to town and have has numerous people tell me I needed to try this taco shack. They were not wrong. Good portion size and the flavors were spot on! Even the spicy salsa flavor wasn't dominated by the heat. This is a must try place.

Migas breakfast taco was soooo good! I stop by every time I pass through. The salsa is fresh and tasty. I had one chicken and one beef taco this last time. Fully loaded 2 for $6. The steak gordita is on point!

These are some TASTY tacos!! The salsa is top notch as well! The Migas is boooomb! So tasty. Seriously, you gotta stop by The Taco Stop!! This hits the spot!! The bacon was pork chop tender, the tortilla was soft like a welcoming pillow, the eggs cooked to perfection. Don’t hesitate to stop here, def do it! Your tummy will thank you!!

So the large $4 tacos have yummy homemade tortillas. The regular ones are store bought. Either way they fill them up plenty and oh so good!

We stopped by on our way to Houston from Colorado. The line was long which is a good sign. The crew was Awesome and the tacos were delicious! I would recommend them to anyone and hope to visit them again soon!

BEST BREAKFAST TACOS EVER!!! I don’t live in Elgin anymore, but anytime I come into town, we have to make a stop here. This family-run taco shop is a true gem. Handmade tortillas and delicious salsas put their tacos over the top! Try the Texas Tech Taco if you’re a carnivore- you won’t be disappointed!

My little brother bought me some breakfast tacos from here. They’re hands down the best in Elgin and Manor.

The food is delicious, the staff working has to be either family or best of friends, and they were FAST. My tacos were waiting for me in a bag before I was done paying. The man that took my order was extremely kind. I did not have cash on hand and my phone service was out. He wrote his info on the bag, and told me to pay when my phone got service. This is the love that you get from supporting local businesses. I called 3 people about my experience and recommend all to support this business. You will not be disappointed. I will be back every single time I am in Elgin.

I think I speak for the majority of Elgin when I say they have the best breakfast tacos in Elgin! I typically get the egg, bacon, and potato with cheese and it hits every time! Also be prepared to wait in line because this is a very small shack and some mornings it can get very busy. The customer service is always good though. They are a family owned business who genuinely love their jobs and serving the community. I don't think I've ever met anyone that didn't enjoy their food. I definitely recommend coming here!

Delicious breakfast tacos!!! I drive by here every Monday morning when I go from Austin back to College Station and just last Monday I decided to stop and try it for once because I had been craving breakfast tacos for a long time. I ordered one large chorizo and egg taco and added potatoes for a little extra. The taco was really good!!! I know I'll be coming back every time I have to drive back in the morning and thinking about that makes me almost look forward to driving back

Best breakfast tacos I've had. Family owned and operated for years. To me they represent the ol' time hospitality and integrity that was the deciding factor of where we'd raise our family. There are still good hearted people out there, they're charging pennies over the price they charged when they first opened when they could've justifiably doubled prices by now. I support taco stop 100%

Have driven by the place for years and decided to whip of the highway to check it out. The breakfast tacos were favorable and made to order. They are also huge. We will be stopping there again.

This place is so great. Tacos are always on point. Service is superb. And they AWAYS remember you. Never got my order wrong like all the other places in Elgin. Great job guys. Keep up the good work.

Simple authentic tastes that you will ALWAYS wait in line for. What makes this place great? It is that there are no flashy advertisements, catchy icons, or established presentation; this place is EXACTLY where the locals go to eat a great breakfast taco, and I am probably breaking a local rule by publishing it here. In the morning this place may look like a "job site" or pick up point, but trust me everyone is there for the food. It pays to be patient, strike up a conversation, and prepare for your order while waiting in line. It will be worth the wait. I could name all the best options and food choices for my preference, but it would be best for you to try ANY of them yourself for the great taste. Just know that the Salsa, Pico, and meats are marinated and fresh. (see the photos for ideas) Things to note... they are CASH ONLY, and they close normally before 2pm or so, possibly sooner if they run out of product. Yes, they do run out because they are that good. How to get there? If you are traveling East on US-290 from Austin (about 35-40 minutes) to Elgin, in the morning hours, and you need a breakfast fix.. THIS IS THE STOP. The only way you will recognize it is from all the trucks, workers, and other locals hanging around. Should you need a landmark, look for the big Oak Tree on the Eastbound side, or on the Westbound side look for the "Autozone" and the "Golden Chick" (this place will be almost directly across from the Taco Stop). (The address provided is to the nearest building about 300 feet from the Taco Stop) I do not get to stop here as often as I would like, but when my traveling hours meet my taco needs, it is mandatory on the itinerary. So avoid the fast chain places, and the "Whatta" evers that will tempt you. Stop here and have an inexpensive, but great little meal. And when you are there DON'T TELL THEM that I told you about it, after all, I wouldn't want the locals knowing their secret is out!

Been here a couple times for breakfast and has NEVER let me down, so when I found a $10 bill in my pocket (And I never have Cash on me anymore) I jetted there from Manor for lunch...I decided to try the Gorditas, since I really never have tried them anywhere else...Biggest mistake I made...I ordered 2..and these things were Huge!!!...I got the Fajita and Carne Guisada all the way (loaded with all the fixins)...Some how...I managed to stuff it all in my gut...Both were popping with flavor...and at $3.25 each it was a steal of a deal...I will be back very soon to try another one....yes just one this time...If you in the area, stop by...you wont be disappointed at all..:)

Best breakfast tacos in Taylor. An unassuming spot off the beat and path! This mom and pop place serves amazing food in a small town hole in the wall! If your in Taylor stop by before 1pm and check them out!!

I know this place has gotten quite the following and their tacos have always been good; yet lately there have been some issues. First, notice the workers do not wear "hair nets-never" and sometimes I have seen some not wear gloves, as often. I had recently gone to pickup a number of tacos for a large group and half my batch had more than we bargained for; hair is not appealing meal in any way shape or form... Who knows what their hands have been on; other than the food(and no gloves when serving the public; even if you are the cashier...) No matter the hype; I know I am not the only one that sees these things, yet you take your chances on your own outcome...be well and dine well.

Believe the hype! Come and get a breakfast taco from here ASAP. Will be a forever customer as long as they will have me.

Let's talk about these tacos. These are the best breakfast tacos you will ever have. Don't argue with me. Accept it. I've been spoiled growing up in Elgin, I'll admit. Taco Stop is where it's at. And by "it" I mean the tap dance session that Jesus and Mother Mary both are having on my tastebuds. Now yes, the wait time can be kinda ridiculous but I've never had to wait even more than 15 minutes, even on a Saturday. The guy that takes the orders is super sweet and he'll gesture to you from your car so you can go sit back in the comfort of your vehicle rather than outside while you wait for your food to get ready. But none of that matters because these tacos are just good. And I know what you're thinking, OK, "They're just breakfast tacos, Ashley, not the secret to life. Chill." Alright then. You're wrong, but alright. Go order a large bacon, egg, potato and cheese taco with red salsa. I can't attest to how good or not good the rest of the food is but you just don't expect breakfast tacos to be so good. Maybe it's the homemade tortillas. Maybe it's the way they don't skimp on ingredients. Maybe it's the way the salsa adds just the perfect amount of heat. Who knows? I don't. But I know you need to stop by.

So, it's fine. They're tacos. They're good. You can get a small one, or a large one, and they're priced just right. I don't get the "best tacos ever" or "better than any spot in Austin" reviews. They're just breakfast tacos. And they're just fine. I won't wait in line for twenty-thirty minutes for them, but if I want a breakfast taco and don't feel like driving into the city, I'll stop by if the line is short. The parking situation is kind of atrocious, and pulling back out onto Highway 290 can be a bit of a pain. I've never heard so much honking while people were trying to back out. The service is friendly, and they're happy to answer questions. It's worth a stop to see if you like it, but I disagree with the other reviews that they'll knock your socks off.

These guys can do no wrong. There's a line of people to the highway for a reason. It's fresh, the secret's out and they cook to order. I bring their well-priced HUGE breakfast tacos to work to score brownie...ahem...taco points with my colleagues and they know what that little brown bag means...heaven's inside. I've ordered everything they make for friends with various tastes and have gotten back nothing but rave reviews. I'm partial to the fully dressed fajita taco (beef skirt steak, beans, onions, cheese, cilantro) and the traditional bacon egg and cheese. But on Saturdays-only you can get a Desebrada taco...melts in your mouth. Your choice of red or green sauce for your tacos. I'm a green girl myself. Blink and you'll miss them on the eastbound side of 290....but the line of cars on the shoulder should guide you in.

They are good tacos, don't get me wrong, but the BEST tacos? Um, no. I live in Elgin and would say they are the best in Elgin, but I would not drive all the way out here to get them if I wasn't already in town. We had the egg and bacon and the egg and chorizo. Both were very good and the bacon was nice and crisp. The people working here are also very nice. When its cold outside you can sit in your car and they will wave at you when your order is ready. I would say yes, if you are in Elgin, please stop and try a taco, but don't make a special trip out here. You might not be as excited.

Best breakfast tacos I've had in a very long time. It's a little building on the east side of 290. I always stop here on my way back home from Austin. The line can be long but totally worth it. The line goes quick. I get a potato, egg, sausage, cheese and refried beans taco. It is stuffed full and warm! Get there early if you want a large. They homemake the large tortillas.

5 stars for the tacos, hands down best in Austin area. The products they use in the tacos is some pretty good quality. Hang ups is that they only take cash n don't take phone in orders

My husband had worn me out with the tacos...BUT...since we found the TACO STOP..."I" ask if we can get them a couple of mornings a week...and any time we have company from out of town it's a given they're getting TACO STOP tacos!!! Even my fussiest eaters love'em!!! Don't let the shack deter you...this place was amazing! We were too late for breakfast, so we ordered the shredded beef taco and the Saturday special. Great price, fresh and delicious. We will definitely go back.

It was named after me because I'm a Texas Tech alumni who comes here regularly and have been eating here for years. Great, family-run business. My mouth is watering just thinking about the homemade tortillas and salsa.
