The Best Wine Bars in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"The Tasting Room’s pared-down, lightly industrial vibe keeps the focus on the wines. Host and noted sommelier Nico Giraud was raised in the French regions of Champagne and Provence — after eventually landing in the Twin Cities, he directed the wine program at both Meritage and, later, Spoon and Stable. The Tasting Room’s selection features wines from its sister winery, Coursey-Graves, in Santa Rosa, California. Pair a glass with an assortment of French tapas." - Justine Jones

Love love this spot! The wine is exceptional and the staff is friendly warm, especially when we bring our baby for happy hour. The marinated beans are the baby’s favorite. Inside is cozy and a perfect spot for a date night. Highly recommend!

Had a great dinner last night. We had the charcuterie plate, the duck rillets, and the pinsa (flatbread). Whitney has always been our server when we come and she is friendly, efficient, and fun; she knows her stuff when it comes to wine. Just a really nice overall atmosphere and the food and wine are fantastic.

When we discovered The Tasting Room we were looking for somewhere special to celebrate my Husband’s 50th birthday. We came to the Tasting Room and I contacted the owner and head chef, Nico, over email. Nico was very responsive and provided great communication the entire time, making the planning process much less stressful. Nico was able to accommodate all our needs easily. Once we got to the restaurant, we were escorted to a beautiful private room in the establishment's basement. The room was designed to resemble a speakeasy and had a large wine cellar in the back of the room. Once everyone arrived, Nico began to present a wine tasting to us himself. He was very knowledgeable about the wines and was able to present that information entertainingly. The wines he had picked out tasted delicious as well. Along with the wine tasting, Nico and his marvelous staff served a wonderful dinner consisting of Black Caviar, Olive Oil Poached Salmon, a wonderful Wagyu Beef Zabuton, and more wonderful items. Throughout the entire service, the staff was attentive and kind and ensured that we and our guests were taken care of. For the high-quality service, the price was also quite reasonable. We recommend the Tasting Room to anyone, and we will be coming back.

My sister and I were visiting Minneapolis from Chattanooga, TN. We stayed near the Tasting Room and decided to come in during their happy hour. It was amazing!! The wine and the pizza were perfection. The vibe was warm and welcoming. The service was so friendly. We both said we wished this place was in our town! Highly recommend!

My sister and I came for the evening before we went out for dinner. I had this spot on my list for a year. Oh my word, it did not disappoint! We both ordered different flights and we were both very happy with them. I got the “Lisbon” flight and it was outstanding! My favorite was the vino verde rose’!! Incredible!!! I absolutely LOVED it. The service was outstanding as well. Very down to earth and friendly. The staff seemed to go out of their way to make it a good experience for us! Can’t wait to go back. (I wish the outdoor seating area had more pizazz but, not the end of the world. The inside was gorgeous but we wanted to enjoy the great weather so we sat outside. Amping up the outdoor area would be a great idea). The truffle chips were lack luster BUT the wine—perfecto!

We arrived mid afternoon on a Saturday and inspite of there being a private event wine tasting, Nico accommodated our party and was fantastic in welcoming us to the wine bar, giving us advice and providing excellent service. Enjoyed the flights we had as well as the charcuterie and escargot and left with four bottles of wine. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back.

I hosted a private event at the Tasting Room and it was absolutely fantastic. Nico was responsive and detailed during the planning phase, and that continued through the actual event. Our group had an exquisite plated dinner coupled with wine pairings. We also did an additional tasting. He was able to accommodate non-drinkers with the best NA options I have seen in the TCs. I highly recommend the Tasting Room - a special thanks for Nico and staff for a perfect event. Can't wait to return!

Google
An uptown wine country experience! All the wines of the world with informed, professional, and prompt service with a food menu of well-matched small plates. Indoor, outdoor, and bar seating in a clean, fresh, warm, and slightly industrial setting, seating indoors for about 35. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Vibes: Sexy. Sultry. Speakeasy. Wine bar. Great music. Intimate seating and fun yet comfy decor. Drinks: Ordered the Nico's Favorite of the Moment Flight $25 Cost: The flight was so reasonably priced ($25) and each glass was 3oz. The Pinsa was also a great size to share for the price ($18) I ended up with leftovers. Experience: Our server was so knowledgeable and friendly. She helped one of my friends decide which wine to try and had great suggestions on both food and wine! We didn't need convincing to come back.

Yelp
The ambiance is truly wine bar, not just a nice neighborhood bar that serves good wine. Great wine at a great wine bar! Staff attends to your every need.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped by for drinks and a snack at the Tasting Room our first day in Minneapolis. We shared the smoked salmon plate which came with blinis, house-made fruit punch pickles, cornichon, sour cream, and good smoked salmon - a delicious snack! I had a couple of glasses of great Georgian amber/orange wine; my friend had a glass of rose and then switched to my Georgian orange. The service was great. And their outside seating on a pretty evening?! What could be better? We found street parking a block or two away. We really enjoyed our time here. I would happily return.

Yelp
The perfect wine bar. Not to extensive list but a mix of quality and interesting curated by someone who knows what they are doing. I'll be back

Yelp
I went with 2 girl friends for a girls night at the Tasting Room and we had a wonderful experience! The location had a really cozy vibe. They do not seem to have the food menu on their website so I emailed them for a copy of the menu and they responded same day. Nico was our server and he gave us really personalized service. One of my friends is gluten free and they were able to accommodate her dietary restriction. Between the 3 of us, we ordered 2 bottles of wine, olives, beef carpaccio, escargot, a gluten free Flatbread, a cheeseboard, and a creme brulee. All the food all tasted great! The gluten free pizza also turned out really well (he said that was the first time having to serve one). They also provided us with gluten free crackers since my friend couldn't eat the baguette that came with some of the dishes. The Tasting Room is perfect for date night or a girls night out. I hope it sticks around for a long time to come!

Yelp
We stopped here for our anniversary, and what an excellent spot it is! From the wonderful food to the fantastic selection of wines, you can't go wrong. I highly recommend stopping by for a drink. This is the spot!

Yelp
This is a great place to enjoy a glass or two of some great wines in a relaxed, understated setting. Servers are always well informed and can help you make the perfect selection.

Yelp
My new favorite wine bar in the twin cities by far. This stylish little spot just off Hennepin in uptown features an amazing selection of wines by the bottle as well as a frequently changing selections by the glass. Available in 2 oz tasting pours or 6 oz glasses the selections the night we visited featured lesser known varietals that are sure to expand your wine knowledge. The proprietor, Doug, is a wealth of information about wines and has curated an amazing selection. There are a number of small plates too from cheeses and meats, nuts greens and more. But whatever you do you MUST order the house made focaccia-a fantastically crispy bread served with a fruity olive oil-heaven! They also will be doing wine classes so be sure to keep an eye on their website. A-one. I've already booked a return visit in a couple of weeks to see what else he's discovered.

Yelp
This is the best wine bar in the city. The ambiance is great and it's very cozy. I love when you get to sit outside when it nice out and enjoy wine. The food is amazing, especially the flat bread pizza and their charcuterie board. The staff are very knowledgeable about their wines, especially Nico. The way he talks draws you in. I think it's the French accent lol. My friend and I are regulars, so all the servers know us when we go. Which is really nice. I would definitely recommend for any occasion.

Yelp
What a lovely wine bar! We enjoyed the most amazing evening there. The staff was kind, knowledgeable and accommodating. They have wine flights that feature unusual, high quality pours. The French flight featured the most amazing rose I've ever tasted. The food was excellent and appealing--designed to be tapas but we loaded up and made it a very satisfying dinner.

Yelp
I visited The Tasting Room, a chic new Uptown wine bar twice during my visit to Minneapolis last week and had wonderful experiences each time. Rather than a bar or a restaurant, The Tasting Room has an upscale club vibe, like you are going to an exclusive event, with decor that's modern yet comfortable -- and feels antique and architectural at the same time. The bar area is made from recycled wood and the warm fireplace was welcoming on a blustery evening. Vicki, the manager who served us, is very personable and knowledgeable about wines.. We found a nicely varied wine list which included hard to find small California producers, some who are making just a few hundred cases. While there is no full food menu, there are several tasty appetizers; we enjoyed the curried cashews and the roasted mushroom tartine. On my second visit, we sampled some delicious reds which Vicki served from her super premium keg selection. She showed us how to get more flavor from the wine with some intentional slurping! Really recommend The Tasting Room for anyone who loves wine and wishes to learn more about enjoying it more fully in a warm setting complete with a vintage stereo system dating back to the 60's and 70's!

Yelp
Troubador is better than the Tasting room. The kitchen options are minimal and the cheese/meat plate leaves much to be desired. I ordered a dry red blend wine bottle that was around $60 and it was served chilled. The service was good but my husband and I were the only ones there. After spending close to $150, we had to leave to find somewhere to eat dinner. Likely will not frequent again.

Yelp
This holiday season if you are looking for a new place for a Romantic date night or for a fun speak easy ish place , tasting room might just be for you! I am so happy that uptown Minneapolis has newer places to hangout ! The tasting room is a nice , tasteful and yet fun place to hangout. They have a wonderful selection of wine of national and international origin. You can either order by the bottle and/or by the glass. Also available are nice wine pairings like a cheese or a charcuterie board. We had ordered the cheese board that was veru impressive and had a delicious selection of small batch locally sourced cheeses as well lovely international selection. The wine is decently priced however if you're looking for cheaper options, you might want to check out the happy hour menu. The ambience was chic but warm and cozy . Our hosts were nice , friendly and very knowledgeable about the products !

Yelp
This place is a little jewel in Uptown. Sometimes you just want to steal away to a quite, intimate place for a tete-a-tete with a friend; other times you want to relax with a book and beverage, or kill a little time someplace pleasant before a movie, or indulge a bit by exploring a new wine. The Tasting Room is ideal for these kinds of occasions. It's small, comfortable, tranquil and stylish, and it's run by someone - her name is Vicki - who's as personable with guests as she is knowledgeable about the offerings. Don't come here looking for a meal, come for the wine and the ambiance. And a word about the wine: the prices strike me as very reasonable for the quality of the offerings. The other thing I like about the Tasting Room is its location on the fringe of the Uptown madness. If you want to steer clear of the party crowd, approach from south and you'll have no inkling of all the beer swilling going on just a block away. Parking isn't even that much of a challenge this side of Uptown. If I lived close-by, I'd definitely want to be a regular here - and I'd bring my favorite LPs with me and ask to play them on the kick-ass vintage stereo system, which includes a turntable and reel-to-reel tape deck, McIntosh amp, and Vintage Bose 901 speakers suspended from the ceiling.
