The Best Wine Bars in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"The interior of the Tasting Room is, objectively, gorgeous. And of course it is — it’s nestled inside a historic stone and wood-trimmed building on a quaint section of Post Alley, whistling distance from Pike Place Market. But what’ll really boost those Instagram-worthy photos is the wine selection. This spot represents seven different Washington wineries that revolve around small-lot, hand-crafted vintages. According to the staff, there are always at least 60 different wines visitors can choose from. For those who really want to become acquainted with the state’s unique wine terroir and blending skills, this is the place to go." - Brianna Gunter

4/8/2023: We came back here because our friend Brad works here and we didn't want to pass up the opportunity of cheese and crackers with a flight or wine. It was the first time we ordered food here and we really enjoyed the cheese and crackers! 6/16/2022: Took my mom and my auntie here for wine tasting for the first time in Seattle. The experience was great, and our server was extremely kind. My auntie is new to wine and wasn't finding any of the wines to her liking. Our server brought out another one for free to help satisfy her. She was really pleased ultimately satisfying everyone. I would definitely recommend this place.

I have been to this place many times over the years (for corporate events and personal events) and it’s usually fabulous. However — today I happened to stop by with my parents and we each ordered a flight. The pour was much less than the usual. :/ You can compare these pours to the ones on the reviews as well. Kind of bizarre because it comes across as stingy… cest la vie!

Google
This is a must do stop. Super guys, super friendly. They know their wines. They have special wines. I'm a wine sommelier and I Would come here every day. Try to order something uncommon. Strong, more mineral.... And explore new tastes. I will try to visit them again! They really made this visit to Seattle worth it.

Fun little market area tasting room featuring 4-5 of Washington’s wineries

My bestfriend had a frustrating and disappointing experience with The Tasting Room. Despite confirming her reservation THREE times—three days before, the day before, and the day of—they canceled it on her because they thought she was coming earlier than scheduled. She didn’t cancel. She didn’t no-show. They just took it upon themselves to cancel her reservation because of their own misunderstanding—and after all that communication? That’s just bad business. That unexpected cancellation completely derailed her carefully planned day. Someone stole their Uber right after, which made her late to the escape room, and then dinner had to be rushed to try and salvage the evening. All she wanted was a smooth, enjoyable experience. She did everything right, and The Tasting Room still dropped the ball. If you’re planning something special, you might want to think twice before relying on them.

Cute little tasting bar. The create your own flight is perfect. Ariana was lovely and helpful and knowledgeable. Looking forward to returning and trying more wines.

Google
I’m so good at picking places I forgot this was on my Seattle travel list. 😁 Its’s located in the Pike Place area and you have to walk through one of the alleys to get there. They have indoor and outdoor seating. All the staff was charming and helpful. If you don’t have time to go on a wine tour then the Tasting Room is a perfect place to sample Washington wines. They offer several flights. I tried one of the darker red flights and the sparkling Shiraz along with the smoked salmon plate.

Google
Popped in to wait for a table across the alley. Not a wine drinker, so I had a cider. The sommelier poured me a wine dessert, which was fantastic, so we ordered a bottle to go. Very friendly and knew their stuff. If you need a place to hang out while waiting for your reservation or just to taste good wine, this is the spot. It's off the beaten path of the traffic for Pike Place, so not many tourists come in unless they wander off.

Yelp
Apparently a retirement party was happening but they said it's ok and we were even able to grab some seats! Seems like a great place to have a retirement party lol. Live music was fun, waiters were kind and helped us with recommendations. We were waiting to get a seat at the pink door actually so this was a really convenient place to relax without filling up too much. Semilon Sauvignon Dessert - very sweet and really like a dessert more than alcohol. Good for sweet tooth lol. Im not a huge fan of wine so this was good choice for me. 3/5 we also got the charcuterie board. Decent meat and cheese! 3/5

Yelp
THE BIG: Also known as The Wines of Washington Tasting Room. Located in Post Alley of Pike's Place in downtown Seattle. Indoor and outdoor space. Street parking only. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here to try out some wines while exploring Pikes Place. It wasn't terribly busy when we came, which was great. Plus the weather was nice so we sat outside. However if you're looking to do work, it's better to work inside since the wifi is better. We got two flights, and got to choose which wines for our 5. I got primarily reds since I'm a sucker for a nice fruit bomb and tannins. Washington is primarily known for their big bold reds. It was delicious THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall, for two flights of wine, the damage done was around $30. Nice vibe to sit out and enjoy some wines from the Washington region.
google avatar

Yelp
Internet maps sometimes make it hard to find tucked away in an alley but worth the adventure to get here. Great staff, fun Washington State wines and nibbles that pair well. I am a fan of the semillon and venturing on to the reds next.

Yelp
Cute little wine bar directly across from Pink Door! We had some time to kill before dinner so we decided to drop in here for a couple of glasses of wine. It was one of the highlights of our trip! The service was amazing and we loved the wines we had. The ambiance was super relaxing as well. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area looking for a good glass of wine!

Yelp
A lovely quiet place to sit and enjoy a wine flight. Go shopping at the Market, then head over to the tasting room, rest your feet grab a wine flight and relax and let all that shopping, and walking and dodging of the s..buck gawkers melt away. The service is great and helped everyone to select it ms that fit their tastes. It's warm, and cozy and worth stopping in. So next visit to the Market, hit the tasting room and relax.
google avatar

Samantha G.

Yelp
It was a-ok. *shrug* Service was a little meh. The decor and ambiance are great. The wines were ok. The cheese plate was nice. But there's just so many better places steps away. If the service was better and we'd actually heard a little bit about the wines we were drinking... Well, it would've been better then.
google avatar

Yelp
Great location on Post Aly, real close to Pike Market. An inviting, cozy feel, with friendly staff who is happy to guide you through different offerings from throughout Washington. The wines mostly range from good to very good, with a few standout options. The Wine flights display good variety and feature very generous pours for both red and white drinking preferences. Definitely a fun place to kill an hour or two.

Yelp
So many wonderful memories over the years here with my best friend. Many flights and board games later, I am holding her spot at the bar while she is holding mine (hopefully) in heaven. Loving the Friday night jazz and the local wines and hospitality. A wonderful place to sample local wines.
google avatar

Brenda P.

Yelp
This place was so good we came back after dinner for a bottle of one of the wines we had. I also bought a bottle of brandy for my husband. The service was spectacular, and the place is so cute, and cozy. Perfect for a date night, or night out with the girls.
google avatar

Serena S.

Yelp
Great location to sip a wine flight on a beautiful Seattle spring day. I tried the white wine flight of 4 wines and loved tastes 2 and 3. Come in to see what they are! Wines and entertainment may change monthly so check events and hours ahead. Also loves our waitstaff and nearby table peers.
google avatar

Yelp
Like many people, I'm sure, we stumbled into The Tasting Room while waiting for a table at a popular, nearby restaurant - and we are so glad we did! It is a small, cozy wine bar with a very large selection of Washington wines. My husband and I opted for two flights - one of red blends and one with light wines. We also split a glass of Bella Note Malbec, which was delicious! Service can be a bit slow when they are busy, as it seems there is only one person working at a time. However, it's a wine tasting - are you really in a rush?
google avatar

Yelp
I have been coming to this wine bar for about 10 years when visiting Seattle. It has a GREAT laid back ambience and kind staff. I bring my travel games and play them while enjoying a bottle of wine. They sell Washington wines. They have plenty of flight options, or you can just order a glass or buy a bottle. They have a few options for mixed drinks. They do sell charcuterie boards, almonds and olives.

Yelp
I kept saying I wanted to do some wine tasting while I was visiting, but I just never got organized enough to book a tour. The Tasting Room was the next best thing to getting the experience of visiting a winery. It's conveniently located right across from the Pink Door, where we had lunch. The staff was super welcoming and allowed me to ask all the questions we wanted. The winemaker from Nota Bene Cellars was there pouring, and it was a real treat to be able to learn from him. After we finished our flight, we selected a full glass and the tasting area also makes for a good place to just chill too.
google avatar

Felicia C.

Yelp
Solid 4. It's a wine bar. Quaint. Not dive-y. Good place to visit if you happen o have a long wait or just want to sip wine while passing the time. Several flight options available. Reasonable price. This wasn't one of those in-depth tastings. We got a quick run down or the order and we're left to our own devices and pace to enjoy.

Yelp
This business may not serve you based on your political beliefs. Last week, the server shouted to patrons that no one would be served if it was apparent they voted for (the candidate in opposition of her beliefs) and they were expecting a customer to show up that would in fact not be served. One patron responded it was a risky proclamation. It made for an uncomfortable environment right after purchasing an expensive glass. In anticipation of the confrontation, I paid just to leave. I contacted the business over email to ask about their policy and they didn't respond. I've shared this more than dozen times since. They don't have to serve you based on what you're wearing, but wine is also sold next door.
google avatar

Yelp
A nice tasting room in the alley at Pike Place Market. As it is in an alley, suggest parking nearby or walking to it. Upon arrival, there was no wait and was able to sit down quickly even though it was busy. The space is large and has a chill vibe to it. There is a variety of wines to sample, grab a glass/bottle, and purchase. There are several options if you are wanting to wine taste. In addition, there is some small plates/snacks to choose from while you're enjoying your wine. As far as the wine goes, it was good. The only complaint is all the samples come out at once and crowd small tables and no one tells you about the wines you are trying. However, that's not enough to not stop by for a glass or some tastings. I'll pop back in soon to hang out for a bit and have a glass.

Yelp
This is my ultimate fav during my visit. The place is quaint and the winetender was so nice. The selection of wine is perfect . They also have some small food offerings. A must stop . See you soon .

Yelp
On vacation in Seattle for a birthday trip. My sister and I decided to walk in for a tasting. We had a cocktail prior, so we decided to share a flight. The person who poured our flight never mentioned his name. He walked over brought the flight, and walked away. When I go wine tasting I like to know a little about each wine and interaction. He never checked in on us, there was only one other group of three in the place. He talked to them but ignored us. I had to walk up and pay,he never asked if we wanted a glass or a bottle to purchase. We walked away from this place feeling as if we were a bother and unwelcome.

Yelp
I tend to be skeptical about wine bars that aren't a secondary location of an established vineyard, but The Tasting Room changed that. Not only is the atmosphere warm and inviting, but the wine cork pig and the amazing staff make this the place to be. Shout out to Brad - the best wine bartender for miles - for answering all our questions and providing such an enjoyable and memorable time. Additionally, their local wine selection is extensive and the curated flights really help you find the best glass for you. 10/10

Rahelma O.

Yelp
We had wanted to go to Woodinsville but couldn't fit it in the schedule so went here instead upon arrival to Seattle. I asked the server to bring me some of his top recommended wines. The wines were great and we ended up buying two bottles. The atmosphere is fantastic, super old building in Pike Place market. Despite the fact that the market was packed, the tasting room was quiet (maybe because it was noon :)) The service was okay? Overall worthwhile, great selection of wine from Oregon.

Yelp
Many years and many visits later, and this is still one of my favorite wine shops/ tasting rooms in Seattle. Great location, right on Post Alley near Pike's place, and a great assortment of wines at a variety of price points. It's a lovely, lively spot to visit - friendly, not pretentious, reasonable prices, and sometimes even live music. And you can do tastings, get a glass or a bottle to drink in, or to go for cheaper/ retail). My friends, who live nearby, came in to get a bottle of champagne for their anniversary, and got great recommendations. I was looking for a red blend to take back to the room, and the gal at the counter was knowledgeable about all three I was considering, and helped me select one I really liked (Locus - Granche, Cinsault, Syrah blend; just $25; the others were $30 and $20). Still a must stop on every trip here, and totally recommend!
google avatar

Dawn G.

Yelp
The Tasting Room is conveniently located in Pike Place Market and offers a variety of wines by the glass, in flights, and by the bottle. They also have bottles of wine to-go for retail prices. On my last visit, my guest and I both opted for the bubbles flight and really enjoyed it. The gewurztraminer demi-sec was so good that I purchased a bottle to-go and could honestly drink it most any day of the week. That wine went especially well with the plate of triple cream bleu cheese, fig compote, caramelized walnuts, and crackers. As I'm typing this I sincerely wish I was eating that again right now! The variety of wines available make it easy to visit multiple times to give each a try. While you're there, grab some munchies from their small bites menu and enjoy it on the sunny patio.

Yelp
Very cute spot to try a variety of local wines. The service was friendly and prompt. A good hidden gem a little off the beaten path!

Yelp
Spent some time here while waiting for our res across the alley. It was very quiet during lunch time on a weekday. The bartender poured us our flight and then disappeared for the rest of our time somewhere in the back room. Tried their whiskey flight and with the exception of the reserve they were all too young and not quite mature enough to be considered quality, although the fruit flavorings of some were better than others. Did really enjoy how chill it was, though.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Delightful wine bar near Pike Market. Danielle walked us through our different tastings. It's a low key, cozy place with tastings from 7 different Washington wineries. They also offered small plates. However, we only tried the white Christmas tasting and Santas mixed bag. Each both were very good representation of Washington wines. Really comfortable atmosphere and very nice service. Thanks again for a nice diversion from the hustle and bustle of Pike market.
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
Another Post Alley gem. I've been here many times with many people and always enjoy kicking back with their tasting menu. Even better, grab some friends, grab a game from their game shelf, and have some laughs over vino and a charcuterie plate.

Yelp
The service is terrible today.... Not busy. Just terrible. I can't speak about the wine since we left before they took our order. What a fun sponge experience. We are on a stay vacay. Went to the market to get some fun foods and walked by and turned around like yes. Let's do this. So disappointed. We were told to sit anywhere so we found a big table to share with a gentleman who was sitting there. He was very nice. We were so excited to try some new grapes we hadn't tasted before. Finally the woman brought water. Didn't say anything. Just dropped off water. I was thinking maybe we are in the guys section. Waited for a bit. Nothing. So I went up to the bar thinking we might get better service there. I asked the woman if it was ok to move a stool over. There was a bar mat on the bar top where I put a stool she ruffled it and tossed it over with a SURE. We sat down, she left to the outside to drop off a bill. The guy was just staring at a dirty wine glass. She came back and he still didn't greet us. Now I am just annoyed. We had so much fun all day with walking around and shopping. Until we came to here. I don't think we will try it again. Fun sponge!!!! Not worth the feeling of disappointment.

Yelp
What a nice hidden gem in Pike Place. I loved this place so much I went two days in a row for wine tastings. You get 3 wine tastings for $10. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. If you're a wine lover like me, be sure to check this place out. Oh, they also have wine slushes too.

Yelp
What an excellent find! I was killing time in Seattle for a few hours before my food tour and was trying to find some vino in between the market and where the tour met up. Found the Tasting Room on Post Alley and excitedly stepped inside! It was a Friday afternoon so pretty slow, one group was just leaving, so it was just me the majority of my visit. Plenty of seating throughout the place though. I had a lovely time chatting with the bartender and she helped me decide on a wine flight (I went with the French Connection since I'm not big into reds). Learned a lot from the bartender about Washington State wines and was surprised to hear they're the second largest producer in the US (second to Cali, of course). One of the winemakers came in while I was there to drop off his spring collection so it was neat having him there as well. Really liked the 4 wines on my flight, but especially the Chardonnay as it was sooo buttery! Got a glass of that after my flight before heading over to my tour. Looks like they did have some small menu options here as well but I didn't get any food since I was doing that next. Great little place and an excellent opportunity to try a variety of Washington wine as opposed to just being one specific winery tasting room!
google avatar

Sarah E.

Yelp
A fun little hidden gem at the end of post alley. Large and small tables where friends can sit and enjoy tasting flights, glass or bottles of Washington wines. We weren't overly impressed by anything in the white flight we had but a few from the red flight were worth going back for. We'll try the bubbly one next time as well. FANTASTIC STAFF. Helpful but not pushy and understood everyone has different tastes and that's ok! Well worth a stop if you're near the market.
google avatar

Nan V.

Yelp
Cute place and the wine selection was decent. Went on a weekday and it wasn't busy, just few people in. The lady who served us was rude, don't think I'll be going back here.
google avatar

Elisabeth Z.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time with our server and 'sommelier' Brad! Everything was so well-priced for the amount of curation and info given. Delicious bites and wine

Austin N.

Yelp
Would not recommend these wines. We ordered the red and white flights and could only tolerate a sip.
google avatar

alishia z.

Yelp
Has a good variety of different wines. They took the time to tell us about the different wines and what wine is made in Washington and why. Nice ambiance.
google avatar

Yelp
If I could give zero I would. I was super excited to visit The Tasting Room on my first trip to Seattle. On our walk to their location my wife lost her mask. When we walked in from outside, before we even had a chance to explain and ask for a mask, the staff were yelling at us about not having masks on. We had been in the door for less than 5 seconds. It wasn't crowded. We weren't within 6ft of anyone. It was very over-the-top. It could have been a very simple, polite conversation. We understand the rules, we just needed a second to get situated. Basically, she ran us out. We left and won't come back or recommend to anyone.
google avatar

Justine D.

Yelp
This was a wonderful experience that was led by Taylor (sorry if I mixed up the name). I came on my birthday and am so glad. It's a great intimate space with a wide selection of wine. I like how it is a variety of local wines from different Washington Vineyards (as much as I love the single vineyard tasting rooms in town). Really affordable for a tasting. I went with the Bordeaux reds and was not disappointed. Really great place to hang out and wait if you have a reservation at Pink Door. Or just a nice visit after shopping around pike place. I will definitely be returning.
google avatar

Tara H.

Yelp
I'm still a fan of this place, but did have something I disliked last Friday night. It was definitely cool that the Tasting Room was hosting live music. People were dancing and it was the most lively that I've seen it. My main gripe was that they had these wine bottles on sale for $15. I figured that it was a good deal, so we bought a bottle and drank it at the place. When it came to paying, the cashier guy said it will be $30 for the bottle. When I explained that the sign said $15 with no small print stating that it would be more in-house, he said that it became $30 because of the corkage fee. My gripe is that we should have been informed about this so-called corkage fee. I live less than 1 mile from The Tasting Room, so I would have rather saved the $15 or possibly bought 2 bottles to just bring home to drink. After this instance, I would be more careful about purchasing bottles on sale here.
google avatar

Yelp
Walked in and told by the bartender that it would be a 20 minute wait. Okay, that's fine considering she was alone. We patiently waited but kept seeing people get in line at the bar which trumped our order. When I got in line I was told by the bartender I couldn't order at the bar. Went back to our table and waited another 15 mins before leaving. Multiple parties ordered in front of us who came in after us. All in all it was at least 45 minutes without service. Obviously poor service and need for more staffing. Update: thanks for your response. I understand that things are strange currently. As I also take note of the delta variant that you mentioned, I wonder why none of your staff were wearing masks? Good luck to you as well. I suggest amping up your staffing if you are allowing 100% capacity.
google avatar

Daniel B.

Yelp
Wine was great but they did not uphold the yelp checkin offer for 20% off by adding the condition it was for "take out only" which was not specified anywhere else.
google avatar

Max S.

Yelp
I just read the review from last night...no way. We've been coming to the tasting room for 7 years and EVERYONE has always been friendly and welcoming. This place is our go to place when friends are visiting, we couldn't love or support the staff here more. LOVE the tasting room!!!!
google avatar

William M.

Yelp
A quiet hideaway located in Post Alley, the Tasting Room is the perfect spot for a flight sampler, glass, or bottle of wine. In the event you get caught with a long wait at The Pink Door, make your way over to kill some time in an atmosphere that is sure to relax you. The ladies behind the bar are sure to steer you in the right direction if you're a rookie or wine connoisseur.
google avatar

Yelp
Who wouldn't want to spend an evening enjoying $12 wine flights? Because that's what drew us in to The Tasting Room. The wine bar was charming and the walls were lined with wine bottles that were for sale. The ambiance was rustic and romantic and there was bar seating along with several tables. Service was a bit slow, we had to go up to the bar to make our second order and to get our check. The wine was fantastic! We each got the Globe Trekker and Que Syrah, Syrah flights. Our wines paired perfectly with our chicken pate ($8). The pate was rich and creamy and had a side of fresh mustard which was superb.

Rob N.

Yelp
Spent a great afternoon here, trying to escape the August heat wave. We ordered some flights and the staff shared a lot of background info on wines from different parts of Washington, a region that's mostly unfamiliar to me. We planned to have a drink and take off, but the setting was so relaxed the the company so friendly, we hung around and ordered some pate and snacks. Very enjoyable spot and so close to Pike Place Market.

Yelp
I was looking for a spot to have a nice glass of champagne to celebrate my arrival in Seattle, and the folks at Truffle Queen suggested I check out The Tasting Room. The Tasting Room is hidden away in Post Alley, and has an entire wall that opens to the outside, with quaint tables for two and larger community-style tables. It all gives a very European feeling, though the wines are all from a handful of Washington producers. Being a bit of a French wine snob, I didn't have particularly high hopes. But I couldn't have been more wrong. The Blanc de Blancs, a very dry sparkling wine made from 100% Chardonnay, by Treveri Cellars, is one of the best I've ever tasted, and certainly rivals a true Champagne, in my opinion. I also tried the Sparkling Rose Sec, which I would have been content with - but it's hard to compare against "one of the best". They offer some small plates (all cold), and I ordered the Bleu Cheese plate, which came with candied walnuts, fig preserve, and white crackers, along with the generous two ounces of creamy bleu cheese. The flavors worked very well together, and paired with the Blanc de Blancs nicely. The staff were entertaining and very friendly. It was nice to find a quiet spot near Pike Place Market for a drink in the afternoon while all the tourists are standing in line for Starbucks. I will be back soon!

Yelp
Went for the mixed flight: a white, rose, and two reds (syrah and a blend). I'm more of a red wine kind of gal but I felt like the white tasted best..both reds honestly were not great, which is why I took off a star. Still, I really appreciated that dogs are allowed inside so make sure to bring your furry friends and enjoy a quick flight!

Yelp
Right across from the pink door. The pink door had an hour wait for reservations so we thought we would wait it out at this place. We sat at the bar. Bartenders were really friendly. We both loved our wine flights. Didn't order any food. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
I love this place so much that I've been here both times I visited Seattle. It's located in Post Alley and there is outside seating (weather permitting). They have a great selection of wines from seven Washington vineyards. Their flights are well thought-out and wallet friendly. Additionally, the staff are fun and very knowledgeable about wine. Warning: it's hard not to leave with a bottle or two in hand ;-)

Yelp
This place is really cozy and nice. You can come here and have a great time tasting wine! If you can't decide in one in particular, they offer different flights of 4 different wines. They have this cute personal paper placemats with the wine names making it super easy to follow the tasting. The ones I had were sensational with the ones I love: rosé, sparkling, white. Don't be fooled by the amount of wine served. It was just enough at least for me :)
