Ok y'all. Here's the tea. Y'all ready?
pH Craft Cocktail is a cocktail bar in the Wedgewood - Houston area that officially opened 10/1/2019. This was my first time visiting pH. My sister and I came here for a night out. We didn't have issue with parking. There is some street parking along with free parking lot across from the building. We walked and sat down. A Look Inside, you see a beautiful interior with modern decor. The music is lit. DJ got skillz for dayz. There is a cool vibe but the place seems low key. A mix of an elevated, yet comfortable atmosphere.
The cocktails are THE highlights of the place. Dassit! I had the "Why's the Rum Gone?" cocktail. Considering that Bourbon drinks are my classic go-to cocktails, I was keen to try something else. From presentation to taste, I was impressed. It is one of the best rum drink I've had. Pleasantly sweet, the cocktail had a nice blend of rum, guava, tamarind and cinnamon topped with an orange garnish. Balanced. Fruity. Sippable. Well done. Next time, I will have to try their old fashioned for comparison.
Now bow your heads and let's take a moment of silence for the food and the service.
Taking a look at the (digital) menu, I asked myself - where's the rest of it?? The food menu is very li-mi-ted. More limited than a pair of Yeezy retros. Don't get me wrong. I understand this is a bar, not a restaurant but C'mon they can do much better. I mean your girl was hoping for some wings or beignets or something. I'd seen menu photos featuring Mac N cheese, pasta dish, chicken wings, doughnut and desserts on here. None of that was on the menu. Yo I was so disappointed. Kinda like when you see spoilers of Avengers Endgame on Reddit. BRUH. That said, they offer small plates of Southern dishes. We placed our order for food and drinks. We ordered the Jump Off fried shrimps and the Uncommon sweet potatoes fries. It took a 1000 years for our food to arrive. I kid you not. Yet, no one comes to give us an update. Cool, imma just sip on my drink.
Let's sip some more tea. Slurp!
When our food finally arrived, it was the wrong order. Our server placed Grandma's snack fried okra and the fried shrimps on our table. I asked about the sweet potatoes fries. I get a "did you order fries?" Well obviously...why else would I be asking for it? I reply politely that my order was fries and shrimps. She continues to question if I may have mistakenly order incorrectly. A boat load of frustration starts to overwhelm me.
Me: I am not going to be petty. I am not going to...
Also Me: She's now getting on my nerve
The bartender must have mixed the order. But for good customer service, an apology was all that was needed here. She then places the sweet potatoes fries on the table and leaves without giving us cutlery. No forks. No knifes. No napkins. Not water even. None of that was offered. Mind you, I just ordered some finger foods. We requested napkins and she came back with the brown paper towels. Yikes. Customer service was mediocre at best. Never once did she come to check on her guests. Tips must not be a priority for her, I guess.
My sister said the fried okra was good. The sweet potatoes fries were not crispy enough to my taste, but it was fine. The fried shrimps had waaayy too much batter on it. Good lord, this young blood don't need all that clogging my arteries. We finished our meals and a gentlemen comes by to clean up our table. I asked him for some water and his reply was to go to the bar and ask the bartender. You know that feeling when you use your only plus card in UNO and it chains back to you. Thats what I felt. Another lack of courtesy. This is a good business with a lot of potential, but could be whole lot better with staff training on decent customer service. But that's none of my business.
Oh yeah, lots of black young professionals come hangout here. So if you're single and looking...just saying.
