The Best Los Angeles Bars for Martinis, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"The Thirsty Crow is everything a neighborhood bar should be. The low-key Silver Lake space hasn’t changed much since it opened in 2010, serving strong, well-made drinks from experienced bartenders. The signature drinks like a blood orange Negroni are always fun, but this bar really shines with the classics. Martinis are available as wet or dry as the heart desires, and requesting extra olives is fair game. Try the Midnight Vesper with yuzu lavender liqueur for a twist on the classic. Head over during happy hour for $12 martinis and other discounted drinks. The Thirsty Crow doesn’t serve food, but outside food is welcome, and sometimes there are pop-ups and trucks right outside." - Rebecca Roland

Place is a vibe that you wanna be in. Great atmosphere, great service, great drinks, great prices. Def a winner if you're a whiskey/scotch person too.

Google
Our drinks were delicious in a cozy little classic bar environment. We’ll try to go next time when the DJ is there, but the bartender was still playing some great records. He served us as soon as we walked in & sat at the bar as we were there early in the evening and one of just a few parties. I had the Havana Daiquiri & my husband had the Classic Manhattan - both simple drinks, but beautiful & hit the spot. Easy walking distance for us, so we’ll definitely return.

Best bar in the world. True community bar. Only competition is King Tai in BK

Google
Came for a birthday. Sat out front. It reminded me of a French brasserie out front. Music was blasting 2000s emo. Great vibes.

bumpkin spice

Google
Super fun, slightly dank (kinda divey) bar run by food people. The bartenders are awesome, and everyone is so warm and kind. Even the door security and the guy out front who sells fried chicken/cauliflower (shout out to Mike -- you the man!) are wonderful.

Google
Cool rockabilly styled bar. Good drinks cheap happy hour cocktails until 7. Recommended.

Google
A pseudo dive bar (vibe-wise) with regular LA bar prices (cocktail-wise) The drinks be hitting and the bartenders there are awesome!! Sam! Cam! And the rest of the Gang! They sometimes have this Baby Yoda drink that is adorable!

Yelp
Hot day, AC, misters outside, tropic thunder playing on the projector, good drinks, chill atmosphere, great staff! And that's just a short list.

Yelp
Gorgeous lounge with strong character that felt like a romanticized version of shrek's shack. I mean that as the most sincere compliment. This glorified swamp bar is still vibrant in warm dim lighting, whimsical wooden features, unique seating space and great drinks! I had never been to such a cocktail lounge and I was definitely there for it. It was easy to unwind and catch up with friends about the day and so on. As we gabbed, we had delicious cocktails, bummed a few cigs seated outside, and got some bread from a local baker with a setup outside their bar. My Carajillo was made beautifully. It had a creamy top and boozy espresso fill. Their mezcal marg is also tasty. Its smoky and savory dressed finish with the tajin had been done well and was a favorite of mine from the happy hour selection. The vibes were authentically charming, and designed for what felt like a great escape from the city yet somehow still in the mix of Silver Lake, make it make sense. Their happy hour prices were great and would consider this spot in the future for sure. We all enjoyed the bar, service and Middle Earth aesthetic, our visit was great!

Yelp
I've been coming to Thirsty Crow for years. The drinks are amazing and it's near so many restaurant and nightlife hotspots. The bartenders are always pleasant. I recently stopped by for a quick drink, tried the nuggets from Mike outside (so amazing!) and inquired about a large party reservation at the bar. I was introduced to the manager who coordinated everything for me for a birthday. We had 15-25 people in the back room and tables, getting drinks easily from the bar. I was able to decorate the space a little earlier and bring a cake, and order chicken nuggets and cauliflower ahead of time to be served to my group at the perfect time. I was able to bring out the cake at midnight for the birthday countdown. Everyone had such a great time! Drink I recommend: horchata carajillo on their cocktail menu! And I love that they serve grapefruit Radlers

Yelp
This gem was PACKED on a Friday night! The vibe is also really really cool. The cocktails are well-crafted and all very unique; we enjoyed the horchata carajillo (YUM), Campari punch, margarita, and midnight vesper (not for the faint of heart). Will absolutely be back.

Yelp
I first came to Thirsty Crow last August for my birthday and I've been coming back ever since. Most if not all celebrations have taken place here. It's a really social spot--easy to strike up conversations, whether you go alone or with friends. You won't find better bartenders, DJs or managers ANYWHERE, sorry not sorry. I usually go on Wednesdays for karaoke, which is always a good time, and there's a chicken nugget stand called Nugtown right outside that night that's honestly amazing. They also have other events throughout the week like game nights on Mondays and Sip & Sketch on Thursdays. The drinks are solid, the vibe's always good, and it's just one of those places that keeps you coming back. A time will always be had when it comes to the crow !

Yelp
Great bar in Silver Lake. Went late on a Thursday night and it was lively. The music was great and the drinks were even better! Street parking was tough, but found a spot further up the street. Definitely recommend the Winter Margarita.
google avatar

Yelp
Came to this hip ass bar in Silver Lake for the good happy hour. If you like dark bars with charm, this is one. Thirsty Crow is known for the great drinks and specials. Hand crafted cocktails. You can get top notch stuff at cheap prices. A cool place with an old look to it. It's kind of like throwback hipster if you want to call it that. The place only has drinks, with a crap ton of whiskeys. Go at happy hour. These are seriously incredible specials. It's $8 for bourbon, including good ones. There's plenty of classic cocktails they can make as well. It's $10 for an Old Fashioned. That's pretty good for around here to be honest. For sure it's a place to save money on great cocktails. It's got an old but hip feel to it. This gets crowds for the happy hour specials.

Yelp
Went here for a happy hour drink while here for a weekend trip and really loved the decor, the service was welcoming and helpful, and they had great beer!
google avatar

Jonathan T.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and vibe. It was a little hole in the wall while we waited for the sushi restaurant nearby. Service was a bit slower because they had 1 bartender and a rush that came but nothing too bad. The happy hour menu had a small selection of manhattan, old fashioneds, margaritas, beer.
google avatar

Aarti G.

Yelp
This place has a great happy hour and till 9 PM which is unheard of. You can get an old fashioned, espresso martini, manhattan, margarita, etc. for only $10! To be fair the drink portions for happy hour are smaller than their regular drink sizes but I didn't mind. I wish they had food though, even fries or wings would have been nice.
google avatar

Pepino M.

Yelp
Local echo park bar with an amazing vibe and even better bar staff. The best old fashioned around...no frills or pretentiousness. I highly recommend it. Taylor was great!
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
Cute little spot, I like the deal they have when you get to order a shot with a hard seltzer. I discovered the best hard seltzer I've ever had here (Stiegel Radler Grapefruit) as well. I came here on a Thursday and it wasn't a "weekend type of busy" which was super nice. Great ambience and sit down atmosphere.
google avatar

Hayes T.

Yelp
Small little dive bar. It was cute but probably wouldn't go back on a weekend because there was not a lot of seating but also not a lot of standing room. Drinks were fairly cheap
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
Our whole group spent the night griping about how bad their margaritas were. One of my friends had hers remade, and it tasted exactly the same.

Yelp
What a bar! We went on a Saturday around 11PM. This was my first time here. I really enjoyed this spot. The lighting was fabulous. Very dim lighting almost surprisingly dark when you first walk in but as your eyes adjust, it is a really good vibe (especially for the time of night). I enjoyed the low lighting behind the bar and the huge amount of space throughout. It is actually bigger than you think. There was a DJ playing amazing mixes which was unexpected. Inexpensive drinks and a delightful atmosphere, we stayed for a few hours. Bartenders were very kind and aware of everyone around - they came up to me right when I went to order something which was refreshing for a bar in Silverlake. We enjoyed the select craft beers and admired how truly large this bar is. It had a laid back element to it while also being a "poppin" spot for a Saturday night. This was the perfect vibe. We will be back to visit the thirsty crow!!!

Yelp
Really great local spot. Super small environment, but the intimacy adds to the community feeling you get when you sit down and hang for a while. It seemed like the spot where people come to hang out casually and not the kind of place where people get super fucked up and party. Which is really nice if you want a chill evening with a nice cocktail. I tried the Luna Lovegood house cocktail, which was strange and refreshing with mulled cucumber and I think gin? Personally, I prefer salty over sweet so I ordered just a regular dirty martini afterward. Both drinks were good. Definitely will be trying to make this place my chill regular spot. But beware, if you don't live around here then parking will be rough. It was a 10 minute walk from my work so I had no problem with that, but the first time I tried going I ended up just going home because I could not find a spot. Regardless of parking though, this is an awesome bar, has gothy / steam punk energy to it, but is really chill and has a lot of unique menu items.
google avatar

Connor K.

Yelp
Serviceable pub vibe. Happy hour everyday until 9pm, and all day weds and Sunday. $10 margs, $6 beers, some other stuff. Vaguely steampunk?
google avatar

Erik C.

Yelp
Dope little spot! Came in to pre-game before a concert and their happy hour is super good. Service was quick and bartender was friendly. Looks like if I stayed longer they would've had live music, I kind of missed out. Unfortunately when I went to the bathroom they threw away my half-full drink lmao but the bartender made it right and poured me another one. Also no food here! So don't come hungry..
google avatar

Linda Y.

Yelp
Cute country bar and good vibes! Came on a Thursday night and it wasn't as busy! They have a happy hour too!
google avatar

Thessa V.

Yelp
Great vibes and service. Drink is pretty good and sometimes on the sweet side but the bartender is really nice to ask for some changes. Old fashioned is v good. Quietly tucked away before Silverlake gets crazy, a nice diversion.
google avatar

Jesica A.

Yelp
LOVE THIS PLACE! Such a fun, non-pretentious local bar! Came here for a friends' birthday. The margarita was straight up lit. Taylor at the bar was amazing! Would come here again. Apparently there isn't any food but luckily the bar partners up with a food truck outside and the pasta was bomb. Will def come back!
google avatar

Lawrence M.

Yelp
Went here last night as an impulse decision to check out a new spot with an old friend. What a freakin' come up this was - I loved this place. I got 2 drinks (a pickle back shot and an old fashioned) and managed a really enjoyable convo with some of the bar staff and particularly the nicest bartender I've ever met - I think his name was Taylor or honestly I don't remember, but he was nice enough to make me feel welcomed. Please don't sleep on this place. It was definitely getting more fun as the night went, but turns out I'm older than I think and needed to go back home. All in all, it's a great bar with a great staff and drinks, in a great location.
google avatar

Jeff C.

Yelp
Great happy hour. 5-8 Mon-Fri, 2-8 Sat & Sun. Highlights are the $8 cocktails. Came in after work. Chill crowd. I like the old school saloon vibe interior. Plenty of seating inside. There's also a few tables set up out front. Cocktails were good. Got the Sansa Stark and the Old Fashioned. Definitely add Thirsty Crow to your happy hour list. Service was good. Shout out to the chill bartender Cameron. Parking can be tough. There's street meters but they fill up fast so you might have to walk a block or two.
google avatar

Kimberly L.

Yelp
Good drinks and solid happy hour prices! They played good music too like indie and kali uchis!
google avatar

Astrid S.

Yelp
The food is good. They got the shaking box fried rice. All the banchans to make your belly happy. Service- I feel the servers here are not happy to be here. I'm not sure if it's the working conditions or they just hire ppl who thinks they could be doing something better. But either or, you may get lucky and have a server who will be prompt and smiles. Or you might get, like me, a waiter who refuse eye contact so as not to serve you. From my experience, the skinny male waiters are the latter. But girl servers are prompt and service oriented. I had a server: asian, darker skinned, who kinda looks like a Temu version of the main actor from Crazy Rich Asians. The service I got from him was horrid af. I mean, he did not come at all. That night, I tipped in cash the older hispanic guy who was clearing the dishes because he refilled my soda, and got another server to help me. I left 0 tip on my card because I didn't want a single cent to go to that CRA guy. Dessert is fun. Melona, or ice cream. Do I love this place? Yes. Yes, I'd come back. Despite some cocky waiters. Like if you think you can do better in life, do it. But you're a server, serve please.
google avatar

Yelp
I have no idea why I have never been here before! We stopped here after going to get some pricey cocktails across the street. They have happy hour Mon-Fri, from 5pm-8pm, which I love! They have both indoor and outdoor seating, but we chose to sit at the bar. I love the names of their drinks, they are creative and tasty. If you are in the area, you should definitely stop by!
google avatar

Ane U.

Yelp
Came in after horrible service at the airline! Friendly service, cool vibes, delicious well balanced drinks and the place is cracking! Will be back soon!
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
Love this place! Such a great bar! Drinks are clever and yummy! The bartenders were lovely! Great music and a cute side patio that allows for a nice cigar with your cocktail! We will be back! Too much fun not to!

Yelp
I've been coming to this bar off and on since it opened in 2010. And let me just say that things are not the same as they were in 2010 or 1977 or 1989 or 1994. Things change and I've noticed some real old man/stick in the mud type comments from people talking about their beloved neighborhood and wishing things were different blah blah blah. I have an idea, instead of making comments about a local business that doesn't appeal to your narrow minded elitist outlook, why don't you put that energy into cleaning up "your beloved neighborhood" cause frankly, it's filthy and kind of a sh!t hole. Maybe try a council meeting? Or maybe just try. Try and put down that Arcade Fire album from 2010 you're listening to and do something to better your community instead of spreading negativity about a business thats employing people in a California economy where gas is through the roof as well as rent and everything else. If the bar doesn't appeal to your personal likings anymore, don't go. I wish it were the summer of 69 or that it was 1975 and I was seeing the Wings Over America Tour but that's just not in the cards now is it? Good work to Taylor and the crew for doing what they're doing there. A lot of places have closed up since the pandemic and it's nice that this place is STILL in business. There's also a war going on in Ukraine, not to mention the tensions in the Middle East. So, in the grand scheme of things...complaining about a bar is a bit trivial. Don't ya think?
google avatar

Dennis M.

Yelp
My favorite whisky bar in Silver Lake. Sit in the back room. Old fashioneds are great.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Love this spot. Found this bar years ago, and every time I'm in LA I make it a point to stop in. I love the atmosphere and the music is always on point. The staff is friendly and the crowd is chill and also friendly. The bartender Rachel is knowledgeable and I enjoy talking to her whenever I come in. She's very hilarious and welcoming and plays great music. There's also tons of restaurants close by that have great food if you're looking to make a night out of it.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Seriously the best dive bar but what truly makes it special is their bartender Rachel. She has one helluva sense of humor and not only gives service with a smile that lights up the room, she makes her patrons laugh while doing it. Seriously a gem of a human and if you get the chance to be served by her, tip her well. She works her ass off and deserves it! Long live the crow xx
google avatar

Laurie H.

Yelp
friend and i had a drink here, i thought they had a pool table but no. bartender was friendly but the place feels masculine. i was more at home down the street
google avatar

Dana A.

Yelp
Been coming to this bar for years. Great vibes, great drinks, and Rachel is my favorite bartender, hands down! She always brings fun energy to the room, and even when the place is packed she ensures each customer gets excellent service. I make it a point to go when I know she's working!
google avatar

Percy C.

Yelp
One of my fav bars since I've been a bar-goer. Special shoutout to Rachel who makes some of the best margs in town. She used to work at little cave in highland park and has been holding down the drink game for some time now
google avatar

Antonio C.

Yelp
This place is such a gem. I celebrated my rare "leap year" birthday there last night and could not have asked for a better experience. We had a pretty big group and they stepped up so hard. Amazing service, killer tunes, and great vibes. Thank you for making my "ninth" birthday extra special!
google avatar

Amina K.

Yelp
Chill bar with a nice list for happy hour. I was able to hang out with my friends for several hours unbothered. Very spacious inside with a back area and clean bathroom. Parking can be a bit of a challenge but if you don't mind a little walking then this is the bar for you. Would go back for a laid back group gathering or low key bar dates.
google avatar

Morgan B.

Yelp
The Thirsty Crow has quickly become one of my favorite bars. Everyone is always so welcoming and kind and the ambiance is just great overall. One of the bartenders, Rachel, makes such amazing drinks and is so fun to be around. She really does go above and beyond. If you're looking for a place with a great vibe where you can meet fun and kind people, this is your place.
google avatar

Aaron R.

Yelp
I love meeting my friends here for metal nights! So nice to hear good music and it's fun to spend money. Keep it up!!
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
Thirsty crow is a laid back craft cocktail bar in the silver lake/ echo park area. Came here after a dinner down the street since it was one of the only bars open late on a Monday. Had good tunes playing on the record player and strong drinks a plenty.
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
I always enjoy coming here when I'm in the neighborhood. They have a great happy hour and good whiskey options. I enjoy their playlist and live DJs. The bartenders are always nice and helpful. If you want a chill, dark and intimate environment, you'll enjoy Thirsty Crow.
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
Great dive bar! If you're looking for a hole in the wall, this is it. My friend and I made it just in time for happy hour and the drinks quality was a much as you would expect from a hole in the wall...strong and average. However the music was bumpin with 90's and 2000s hip-hop / rap. The crowd here was a good mix and it never got too crazy busy so you could still get a seat at the table and have a good chat with your friends.
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
I've been here several times and I really enjoyed my experience each time. A few things that I liked: 1. Chill vibe with dim lighting and a pleasant u-shaped bar 2. Nice bartenders who are attentive to customers 3. Solid happy hour with good prices and drink options 4. Fun music that varies based on the bartender working at that time 5. Surprisingly large(ish) place, so even if there's a lot of people you can usually find a place to sit I'd definitely recommend this place and plan on returning again soon!

Mark W.

Yelp
If you're looking for outstanding service with a quickness, go to Thirsty Crow and make sure Rachel is your bartender. She plays all the killer music, she's kind, hilarious, and you won't have to worry about getting her attention when you need another drink, she's got you covered immediately! 10/10!!
google avatar

Party Couple C.

Yelp
Sorry to say, don't come here. Bartenders were ridiculously rude. I honestly thought I offended them for some reason. Bar was not busy. We are new to the neighborhood. In a jovial spirit we ordered a round to be met with such an attitude from the red haired female bartender i truly asked our party if something happened. It seemed as though her frown was intentional. She made it very obvious she didn't like us. We thought maybe she was having a bad night. However we all saw her smile and joke around with other guests at the bar. Still confused why she was so rude. Really bad experience. New to the neighborhood and we would have loved make this our spot. Doorman was nice and sweet. Very welcoming. Bartenders are the reason we will not return.

Jen R.

Yelp
This spot rules! Great music, great vibes, and fun staff! Rachel the bartender made me the most delicious spicy margarita I've ever had in my life! I asked her if she could make me something fun and spicy and she did not disappoint!

S J.

Yelp
Great drinks & chill atmosphere. It's a favorite spot for a night out. Every time I'm here Rachel is a standout- she's super helpful & fun. As long as she's there, I'll be back.

Dezzi D.

Yelp
I've cherished this bar as a local go-to for so long now. Perfect spot to grab drinks with buds or have a cute date. It's a great time, especially if Rachel is bartending. Not only does she make great drinks, but her energy is undoubtedly a big part of what makes the place so enjoyable.

Stefanny Q.

Yelp
Literally my favorite bar and everytime I'm there Rachel is the sweetest and she's like really pretty. No seriously she's like REALLY PRETTY
