"The Townsend was a cocktail bar located at 718 Congress Avenue in Austin, opened in 2015 by Penumbral Strategic Ventures and Austin bar expert Justin Elliott. It focused on well-made cocktails, bites, and live music programming and won an Eater Award in 2015 for the best new bar. The bar was involved with New York-based cocktail bar Employees Only for an expansion plan that didn't materialize. The Townsend closed permanently in June 2020 due to the pandemic." - Nadia Chaudhury

Downtown Austin Bar The Townsend Is Closed - Eater Austin

"Lauded downtown cocktail bar The Townsend has closed permanently, after five years of service. The bar opened in 2015 and was known for having some of the best cocktails in the city. It won the Eater Award for new bar that same year. The closure was announced by bar manager Jeff Boley due to the impacts of the pandemic. The bar had closed ahead of city-wide measures to mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus. It was located conveniently across from the Paramount Theater." - Erin Russell

Great bar! Very cool decor, really nice bartender and a great Manhattan! They have music and cool stuff that we didn't even participate in and still this place rocks.

The Townsend is warm atmosphere with great bar staff. The music is separate small dark and cozy room. I would revisit this bar day or night.

This cool bar serves great drinks (the drinkers tell me) and there's live music in the back. It is a happening place! Appetizers are yummy and the bar staff is friendly.

Really nice bar. Lovely service. Very friendly. Had a great whiskey sour at happy hour. Nice relax atmosphere. Good place to come with friends or colleagues for some relaxed drinks. It looks like they have live music nights which could be worth looking out for.
