The 15 Best Breakfast Burritos in Orange County | Eater LA

"Tater tots, an over easy-over medium egg, pico de gallo, cheddar, and a choice of protein is what’s on the menu at the Trough, a sandwich shop that originated in Rancho Santa Margarita but now has a second location in Anaheim. Meat options here are plentiful, ranging from bacon and sausage to turkey, pastrami, and steak. Diners can also go vegetarian with either portobello mushrooms or avocado. Customers who sign up for the restaurant’s VIP mailers also get access to one-off burritos like the Messy Bessy, a concoction of chicken, chili, rice, and sunny-side eggs." - Sean Vukan

Google
There’s a lot of breakfast burrito places in Orange County, this is my new favorite. Not to big not to small the hash browns were cooked perfectly. I choose carne asada. Irvine location on a Sunday at 1030 not crowded. Highly recommend

Google
Counter order and they bring out food to you. We went in for breakfast. I ordered the breakfast sandwich which came with sunny side up, choice of meat, cheese on Texas toast. Sandwich was extremely good. My friends ordered the breakfast burrito which looked amazing. Great spot for sandwiches. Would definitely go back.

Ali E.

Google
The best breakfast burrito I've ever had. I tried the breakfast sausage the first time and chorizo the second time and they were both amazing. Make sure you add the creamy green salsa.

Ronald Nadelberg

Google
Best breakfast burrito period. The tables were nasty as I hate eating on a table with the last peoples food on it. But he food was great. Would have given 5 stars across the board if the tables weren’t nasty.

Matt Beauchamp

Google
Fantastic food with a large variety of different proteins that can be added into any breakfast burrito or bowl! I will be going back again to try the lunch options since the breakfast was so good. The tater tots were my favorite as they were made fresh and were incredibly crispy and delicious.

Nicholas Harlow

Google
delicious little breakfast and lunch place with a cool vibe and nice employees. they claim to have the best breakfast burritos and sandwiches in town and I'd agree! I have had the breakfast burrito and it's delicious, you also get to watch them make it right in front of you. this time, I got the caprese (pictured) and my wife got the bowl with chicken. the caprese was crazy good, tons of flavor and juicy and tender chicken on a pumpernickel roll. the bowl was a but lame if I'm honest, not a lot of variety of flavor. UPDATE 5/22: third time I've had it in the past year and it's going a touch downhill. remember when the salsa didn't taste like water? remember when you paid $2.50 for bacon and got more than one slice? remember when the customer service was way better/employees were friendly? it's still the best breakfast burrito close to us but I wish they'd step their game back up

Marcus Oberlander

Google
They have a great selection of sandwiches. I ordered the cheesesteak. It did not take long to receive the sandwich after I placed my order. Everything tasted fresh, and I particularly liked how each ingredient on the sandwich did not overpower the other. Even the cornmeal roll was a nice touch. The only reason I take one star off is because the sandwich was really greasy, which was mentioned in other reviews.

Los Angeles

Google
The service was quick and no-nonsense efficient. The sandwiches were okay. Then, what's wrong with me? Well, the question is what's wrong with the food? Too darn greasy. I think I can eat this maybe once a year or so. Even the food without any cheese were dripping in grease. I'll be back next year...

Yelp
Stopped by for a lunch and we decided to share The Rachel, some tots, and zucchini's. The Rachel was flavorful and delicious. The roll was tender and not dense. The zucchini's were nicely fried, but a bit under seasoned. The tots were crispy, but the spicy ketchup was a bit underwhelming. Overall good experience and food.

Yelp
Listen here Americans.... the shortest and best way to explain this place is it a remake of "Fat Sal's Sandwich Shop" that was viral 10 years ago after the guy from Entourage endorsed it. I repeat, it tastes and cost about the same as Fat Sal's Sandwich. Looks better in pictures than actually tastes! But also doesn't taste bad... Which brings us to the point of cost, taste and value.... After careful consideration and recommendations from all of my followers, I finally came to terms this is what my fans want me to eat. So I I went out of my way and paid out of my pocket to eat here. There's a conflict going on in the sandwich world Americans, it's between cost, taste and value. I'm in this conflict battle right now writing the review. Local residents of this fine community know for a sandwich our options are limited before the Quizno and Subway left town. Without naming names and getting in trouble with Yelp, RSM has the New Jersey guys sandwich, the Snowboard and Booze and then the Pig Trough. Which is the best? Short answer is I don't know but this place is not as good as the reviews say it is. Here's the breakdown. It's expensive, but the other shops have increased their prices too. Imagine you order a regular size sandwich at any place and it's around 10-14$ at this place it is 14-17$ Is it worth the extra money? The bread might be as it's the only difference between the other sandwich shops. Although the bread is or in my case was NOT crispy, NOT chewy. So when we ordered Dutch Crunch there was no toasted crunch, it was wrapped and warm and fresh. The Rachel- has a mustard vinegar flavor with coleslaw. Similar nodes to a pastrami but lighter. The cornmeal bread does not stand out The Chashu- very bland.... Nodes you taste: warm bread, mayo, arugula, slight acidity from berry glaze. Minimal pork taste... this sandwich was a disappointment. It needs a sauce/glaze/something otherwise it's a poor man's leftover thanksgiving sandwich

Yelp
Let me start by saying I don't hand out good reviews lightly. But my experience at The Trough sandwich kitchen was nothing short of phenomenal. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. Now, onto the main event: the food! I ordered the Vice Sandwich and let me tell you, it was a revelation. The cornmeal bread was perfectly toasted, with a satisfying crunch that gave way to a soft, pillowy interior. The ingredients inside were a symphony of flavors and textures. The pork, ham and pickled peppers all incredibly fresh, burst with flavor in every bite. The house mustard tied everything together beautifully, adding a touch of creaminess. This wasn't just a sandwich; it was a culinary masterpiece. Each element was thoughtfully chosen and perfectly balanced. It's clear that the employees take immense pride in their craft. Beyond the outstanding food, the service was prompt and courteous. Overall, my experience was truly amazing. From the delicious food to the outstanding service, it was a lunch I won't soon forget. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fantastic meal in a welcoming environment.

Yelp
What a great sandwich place! Food quality, service and a relaxed, but small, eating area were all excellent. The "Rachel" sandwich was outstanding. The onion rings are unique: large, thick rings of purple onion with a crispy coating. I was here about a year ago and it was amazing then, too.

Yelp
The breakfast burrito was a lot smaller than I had thought. I was going to share it but ended up finishing the whole thing on my own. The service was really slow, it took probably 20 minutes for the burrito and the place wasn't even crowded. The salsa is good, but the burrito itself was pretty bland and average.

Yelp
One of the many places to have lunch by the lake. There is inside and outside seating available. The inside looks like an Irish pub but has about 3-4 tables where you can sit. The first item that caught my attention was the classic pastrami sandwich. They made the sandwich fresh but just mind you none of the sandwiches come with any sides or anything. It was not bad but it's hard to compare it to a deli style pastrami which has sauce dripping and meat piled up. The meat was slightly dry and flavorless as I had to add some hot sauce or salt to flavor it up a little. The quality of bread and the freshness is definitely good but the flavor and quantity of pastrami was a little lacking. Either way a nice little place for your lunch and a walk around the lake after a full belly.

Yelp
I should've taken the pic before I already ate half but I was hungry when I stopped by this casual spot. I got the breakfast burrito and I added sausage but was disappointed to discover it wasn't a breakfast sausage and is more like chorizo, which I dislike very much. It's just way too dry and salty. The rest of it was ok but I couldn't eat it plain, had to use up all the sauce. The sauce was good. It was a pretty big size, I didn't eat the ends since it seemed to have several folds and I didn't want to eat just the skin.

Yelp
Came here on a weekday afternoon. Location is right next to a large lake where families can take strolls. The restaurant is tucked away in the corner and almost felt like a dark pub when first entering. Place was empty so we were helped right away. Great list of sandwiches and breakfast items on the menu. Ordered a breakfast burrito which comes with eggs, hash browns, and your choice of another protein such as steak, sausage, etc. Highly recommend. And the other sandwich was the turkey club which I heard was pretty good. Overall, great sandwiches at good prices. Fairly fast service-- you order at the far counter and are given a number to pick up at the other end. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Took off a star because the water jar was empty, there were no water cups at the water station, and the toilet in the one restroom was broken.

Daniel C.

Yelp
Ordered takeout from the trough which is usually pretty good. Wife was quoted 15 mins for the food to be ready, she waited 50 mins and we were given a burnt sandwhich and dry french toast no sides or syrup or anything. Very let down.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches made to order in a quiet corner of a busy shopping center. Loved it so much I went 2 days instead row to work though the menu. Nice staff good beer selection highly recommend

Yelp
Finally tried this place out! I was craving a sandwich and stopped by here. Service was very good, friendly and helpful staff! I ordered the Turkey sandwich which comes with this cilantro dressing (the person taking my order let me try the sauce before ordering) and wow! So yummy! I added avocado to the sandwich which I think it makes it for a better sandwich. I removed the sprouts as I just don't like sprouts. It was ready quick! Presentation is 10/10. Sandwich was really good! Everything was fresh and good, not too messy, and just the right amount of food. Is it worth $10.50 plus $1.75 for avocado? Hmm no, but I think these days with prices going up on food, maybe? I rather pay this amount for this place than subway, that's for sure!!! So yes !! I will for sure be coming back here!

Yelp
Blink and you can miss this spot, it's down the stairs right next to Carmelita's. The Trough has the most delicious sandwiches and breakfast burritos. The sandwiches and burritos are on the large size too. The California cowboy sandwich is yummy, has authentic thick sliced bacon, and generous portion of chicken. Friendly service & reasonably priced. Not much seating inside, but there are patio tables and plenty of benches around RSM lake to enjoy your sandwich on.

John D.

Yelp
I think the food here is great! And the Service is quick and friendly. You can eat right next to the lake at the one located in RSM. There is one item that I would like to mention though. The Trough is listed on Restaurants.com still where you can buy discounts such as $25 off a $75 food order, but apparently they are no longer taking discounts from Restaurants.com. They should probably put up a sign stating so and get themselves delisted from that site. Otherwise, it just equates to false advertising. But I do like the food here.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast burrito and personal favorite of all the ones I've tried, including Nate's corner. Good size and love the sunny side up eggs and proportion of hash browns to bacon and egg! Friendly service too! Highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Mark C.

Yelp
Very good breakfast the breakfast Beatles are the best and Rancho, Santa Margarita enjoyed it. Price is a little bit higher, but it's worth it.
google avatar

Anne-Marie N.

Yelp
The Trough had a reasonable line for lunchtime midweek. The staff hustled and delivered. Didn't wait too long before our sandwiches were ready to be devoured. The Reuben was on a really delicious bread. The BLTCA (minus the T) was also delicious. The sourdough was a requested replacement, the bread was good but not memorable. Overall it has been a long while since we had visited and it was completely enjoyable. We would totally go back.
google avatar

Nate X.

Yelp
This place, in my opinion, is very slowly going downhill. The burritos are become very very expensive, with the protein portions going down and down and down. Quality has come down too. Most recently ordered two breakfast burritos and could barely tell which was which because you couldn't even see whether the protein was steak or bacon... because there was barely any of it to be seen. The green salsa was also completely fronzen and inedible. Rough for a $16 breakfast burrito that consists of 75% tater tots I can buy in a frozen bag at the store. Probably will be hitting pause on this place.
google avatar

Candy K.

Yelp
We've been coming here for years and they're always friendly and quick! Not too much space inside but you always have the outdoor seating and the lake nearby. We have tried the breakfast burritos, breakfast bowls, and recently got that WOW moment! I'm not a sandwich person at all but my bf is. One of the sandwiches caught my attention because I love arugula and eggs...the Braised Pork (Chashu) Sandwich. OMG! The flavors that come together is AH-mazing. I'll never want another sandwich! If you want a spicy kick, add some sriracha! Today was our 3rd time ordering it and it gets better every time!

Yelp
This place has the best Sandwiches and breakfast burritos in town !! So delicious I ordered the soyrizo breakfast burrito Their service is great and friendly Javier was awesome Thank you Definitely will be back soon
google avatar

Bob S.

Yelp
First time here! I loved my sandwiches very much because they were delicious, the service was amazing, the ambiance was really neat, and the music was so good.

Christina S.

Yelp
The breakfast burritos are bomb!! Still thinking about it. Minus 1 star for customer service. I ordered at the location, 2 burritos and 2 lattes. The lattes are from a simple machine, but they left it sitting for quite awhile. Once I reminded him, he gave it to me, and it was lukewarm. I told him that it has been ready for awhile and that it's warm now, and that I'd like a new one that's hot. He wasn't too happy about.
google avatar

Tatiana S.

Yelp
Decent sandwiches. I had the caprese and my husband the cowboy. They were tasty but pretty greasy. My caprese wasn't what I expected, it was warm with a chicken breast, not sliced chicken. sauce was good and I enjoyed the arugula. Onion rings disappointed. They are made with red onions. The batter is thick and needed seasoning. Ranch was good but the spicy ketchup wasn't my favorite.
google avatar

Bradley K.

Yelp
Best Breakfast Burrito in RSM. Expansive breakfast and lunch menu - consistent and delicious.
google avatar

Patrice N.

Yelp
You think, how can a San which be this epic? Or the breakfast bowl with tater tots Or the breakfast burrito Or the veggie grilled cheese The best!
google avatar

Kristin R.

Yelp
Had breakfast burritos here this morning. Super Delicious!! Love that you can customize what you want in your burrito, and they had the right amount of each ingredient. Friendly staff and cute decor. We sat outside and ate, and then took a walk around the lake. Great way to start your day!
google avatar

Tom W.

Yelp
Best Breakfast Burrito I've ever tried, heard about this place through the grapevine and now I live in RSM I'm a regular. It's consistently good. Crispy hash browns, perfectly cooked egg, great pick de gallo. It's big two, you can share this between 2. A must try! Also the breakfast quesadilla is delicious and huge!

Kevin L.

Yelp
I just ordered a California Cowboy, Pulled Pork Sandwhich, a Coca-Cola, and a beer. While I was waiting for my food to be ready two of the staff assumed I didn't know Spanish and proceeded to state " This dumb whiteboy just paid 7 dollars for a beer, who does that, so stupid!" Let's just say you should not make assumptions based on skin color becuase you indeed are a moron. I hope upper management see's this review and takes action.

Ana M.

Yelp
Tried the breakfast burrito here, because I heard such great reviews. I added avocado and sour cream. It tasted fresh and delicious. I loved the hash browns in it. I would definitely come back again. Next time I want to try their sandwich's.
google avatar

Amber P.

Yelp
The best breakfast burritos in OC! This place bumps out some amazingness! Big fans of their sandwiches too. They have good options for vegans and/or other dietary restrictions. Ingredients are always fresh.
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
Had the pastrami sandwich. Very tasty but could have had a little more meat. Wife had breakfast burrito, she loved it. Shared tots, so good.
google avatar

K A.

Yelp
Breakfast. Burrito. I don't really need to say more. The absolute best! I think it's the combo of the over easy egg and the slightly salty tots that does it for me. I don't even get meat or pico in mine (cilantro allergy) and I seriously crave this on the regular. If you've never tried one, please do yourself a favor. We have also tried sandwiches when we came for a late lunch one time and they were also delicious. The tuna melt was way better than I expected. Having said that, I have a very hard time NOT getting a breakfast burrito when we come here! Service is always great and plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the lake!
google avatar

Po Y.

Yelp
The turkey sandwich and onion rings are very tasty! HOWEVER one of the onion rings did not cook throughly so that was giving 4 stars
google avatar

Shanna G.

Yelp
I thought my sandwich was bomb (Pork Chashu) but then I took a bite of my husband's and yummmm (Pastrami Rubin)!
google avatar

Robert J.

Yelp
Done training with my trainer and off to seek a healthy breakfast spot. WE FOUND IT! Fresh eggs chicken greens avocado and killer salsa. I did see the burritos and quesadillas and wow. Just go and enjoy.
google avatar

Josh S.

Yelp
Breakfast burritos are 5 stars, outside of their ham option (Black Forest is the worst possible ham in world history). Love that the onion rings are brined first, hate the cornmeal breading. Also had the cheesesteak before, and it was done in by the cornmeal roll. I don't get the cornmeal love. Again, breakfast burritos are 5 star. Still trying to find something else as good.

Cathlyn H.

Yelp
Food here is literally fantastic. I've never had a better breakfast burrito ever!!!! We get a ton of there delicious sandwiches as well. Great little spot.
google avatar

Lauren K.

Yelp
Love love love The Trough!! But who doesn't? My out of state family who live in foodie towns/areas love The Trough and always make it a plan to visit. The food quality is the same across the board. Example: You order the crispy and perfectly tater tots on the side, expect them to hold that same quality in their mouth drooling breakfast burritos, bowls, or smothered with any other deliciousness they offer. Their food doesn't need the side condiments in my opinion, they stand alone fine without but their salsa and ranch are hard not to add cause it's just that good! The only time I've been disappointed is not getting extra salsa or ranch. That's just cause I love to pair it with other meals. How can I get this bottled? I highly recommend The Trough. It's not just the food, it's the people and atmosphere. Their staff is wonderful and even when busy you see them really pull together as a team, smiles on their face and execute great customer service and food. Now to plan my next order/visit!
google avatar

Viky D.

Yelp
I ordered a breakfast burrito and an iced coffee. The burrito was delicious full of flavor and cooked just right. I added avocado and chose sausage for the meat. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Naseem D.

Yelp
Came here for their breakfast burritos and they did NOT disappoint! Everything in the burrito was seasoned to perfection and cooked perfectly, especially the hashbrowns because I love mine crispy and fresh! It even tastes better when you take your breakfast burrito and sit by the lake on a sunny Saturday morning. Highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Nikki M.

Yelp
I've had, over the years, I think, every single sandwich that The Trough makes. Including the seasonal (Turkey Cranberry... it's RIDICULOUS) and not only is every sando perfectly crafted with the exact right amount of meats and toppings versus bread (there's an important ratio there, IYKYK) but they make these tater tots that are absolutely the best in the state of California (and you know we do taters pretty well - we even put them in burritos). They do close earlier, they're just a breakfast and lunch spot - and parking can be crazy in the plaza they're in - but everything is well worth it.
google avatar

Minh T.

Yelp
Food is bland and overpriced af. I got a breakfast burrito with steak and added avocado. They used to give a green salsa sauce on the side with breakfast burritos that MADE the burrito. I haven't eaten at the Trough in a while so I guess things have changed. I called in my order for pickup. I got to the place and my order bag was sealed so I couldn't look inside to see if there was sauce or not. In my last to-go order there was automatically sauce included so I assumed it would be same this time. When I got home to eat, it was only a burrito. The burrito was well prepared and looked lovely with all the layers. It was super greasy and flavorless though. The tots were still crispy inside but unseasoned, I only tasted oil. The tortilla shell was pressed and crispy. The steak was shaved meat and unseasoned. The eggs were there but unsalted. Everything was BLAND and not worth the calories. I had to add my own salsa from the fridge to make it edible but ended up throwing half away. Paying $16 for a flavorless oil bomb burrito was too much!! Never coming here again.
google avatar

Jason D.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday morning. Kinda busy. The line was to the door (but it went by quick). Ordered the breakfast burrito with bacon + avocado. I really enjoyed the burrito. They use tater tots for potatoes which I liked (nice n crispy). The eggs were cooked to perfection. Great size and price for the burrito. It was $14 for a burrito + coffee. Overall: I would definitely come back. Excellent breakfast burrito plus you can take the burrito n sit by the lake on a sunny day.

Alicia F.

Yelp
The food is so yummy. Never a problem with service. The set up inside is is perfect with the name and what's being served.

Yelp
What in the okole?! A Spaghetti sandwich?! It's REAL?! LOL RSM Lake Plaza - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=4IV0zvY9IBVtyy2tDPEzzg&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ I was in the RSM area for a meeting & thought I'd pull up my trusty yelp * app for a bit of guidance... The Trough Sandwich Kitchen was one of the first to appear on my screen. Good overall reviews, looked solid. I investigated a bit more & highlighted on the main page, "Spaghetti Sandwich." I had to read that twice because in my mind, the only place such a thing existed was in Arlen, Texas; home of Hank Hill, Boomhauer, and Bill Dauterive. ("King of the Hill") The Trough Sandwich Kitchen - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=S8La8hW2dNh4sZqdXrjurw&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ (Guest appearance: Bill Dauterive) So, here I was at The Trough Sandwich Kitchen (TSK), and had found a "unicorn," when I wasn't even looking? LOL - A spaghetti sandwich, so it is a real thing?! I would've never thunk it but there it was in big black letters. I wasn't particularly craving spaghetti on a hoagie but no on ever expects to find a magical, one horned horse either. HA! I am not one to pass up on new opportunities especially when it comes to trying different kinds of eats. I walked in a little after 10am, the plaza was getting ready for the day. The front patio was recently rinsed down, the tables & chairs were getting set out. TSK is open seven days/week from 7am - 4pm. Opening at 7am is a rare, especially for a sandwich shop but awesome for people that are up & running while most others are still asleep. (Thumbs up) As I walked in, three guys looked @ me; two behind the food prep area and one near the register... The gentlemen by the register said good morning in which I replied, "Hi, I'm here to try your famous spaghetti sandwich!" (I say famous because as far as I know, it's the only one in town.) I paired the pasta on hoagy with a Barq's root beer soda. As I waited, I took my usual round of yelp* photos. After getting my order, I walked around the corner & found a spot over looking Lake RSM. Photo - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Vbmv4VzvvdQDCuBdP2rJig&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ I was watched as the spaghettini sandwich was prepared. The line cook pulled out a ziplock sandwich bag of precooked noodles, tossed in a pan and covered to heat. Shortly after, he added the sauce to the pan. Photo - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=4D1pWPvzJoAm5e3AcY9zGQ&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ Sandwich in Progress - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=G_DokXVyK9HL3uM5pn3IoQ&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ It was a good morning. I opened the bag, pulled out the goods and snapped a couple more photos. Now that I was I looking at this mystical sandwich, a thought occurred, "How the hell am I going to approach this?" One word to best describe the process & aftermath, messy. The sandwich is loaded with an ample amount of spaghetti and meat sauce; good portions. Photo - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=X-RXi5QV6xUjC_JasqgAtw&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ It was not my finest moment as the lake's morning, regulars, walked by as I attempted to eat this sandwich. At the very least, I tried not making eye contact as I took a bite and spaghetti squirted out the side of the sandwich, down my hands, and the front of my white, button down shirt. Photo - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=ndq-eK3sN-zPy3kq3JxYww&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ Overall, the sandwich was okay. It had nice flavor but a bit on the tame side. I somewhat expected a real zesty sauce with a strong savory & tangy punch and lots of meat. For a $9 sandwich of mostly pasta & bread, I'd think the sauce and amount of meat would be quite substantial in flavor & quantity. It was just alright. So in conclusion: Fair sandwich; mild sauce. Messy; you can try eating like a sub but be warned. HA! Suggest eating this at a table with utensils after the first few bites. Shop recommendations: Give extra, extra napkins; maybe even a wet wipe. Include a plastic knife & fork. (If you order the spaghetti sandwich, request utensils.) The service was okay. IMO, basic. It wasn't very engaging; had the same level of interaction as if I had ordered at a fast food, drive-thru speaker. I had read good things about TSK but maybe I should just expect more from the food?... The shop is nicely laid out, spacious and well lit. So, maybe the spaghetti sandwich is just a novelty menu item; something fun & different! It worked, it got me in here! However, I do not think that the spaghetti sandwich would warrant a return visit. Well that and the flat service. However, I might return to try their other menu items like the breakfast burritos, charsiu sandwich, and other eats and order form the inside, drive-thru. LOL - Big Aloha! Overall rating: 3 Stars Food: 3+ Ambiance: 3 Service: 3 Value: 3

Yelp
Always have a great experience here. The workers are conversational, fast and efficient!

Yelp
Can order food for take out easily. The cowboy sandwich and the breakfast burritos awesome. You can make it your way. Portions nice and large. Breakfast burritos big enough for 2 kids to share ages being 5-11yr olds are my kids. I like the bowls super yummie and they have fresh jalepenos which is great! (Not the yucky soggy "someone sucked on them and spit them out"vinegered kind. Service is good and easy going. Not like disneyland character friendly but simple and good. Ambience hip and cleanliness is good. Take out is recommended. People eat inside but kind of small. But there is seating outside and the RSM lake is so close walk outside to eat if you have time.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Breakfast burrito are my favorite but they have really good sandwiches too. Service is good. Always busy and if they can't get to you right away, they let you know they'll be right with you. Inside is a little dark and wish it was a little bigger but most people like me eat out so it's fine.

Yelp
This place is located next to Carmelita's on the lower plaza level of a shopping center on Rancho Santa Margarita Lake. They offer a variety of unique sandwiches and a few traditional ones taken to the next level. I ordered the braised pork (chashu) sandwich. Marinated egg, pickled ginger, house "kewpie" mayo, and arugula join the pork between a cornmeal roll. The flavors of every ingredient meshed perfectly - very delicious. The pork was slightly dry yet tender and full of flavor. The size of the sandwich was on the small side and despite the sheer delight it gave me I still have a hard time justifying the price. It was a pleasure to eat but not filling so I'd definitely recommend getting a side or two.

Yelp
Good morning. I once lived in RSM and would frequent the trough for a fairly decent sandwich. This was before the breakfast burrito days. I have since moved to Mission Viejo and haven't been for a while but I did hear they made a good breakfast burrito. At least that's what the professional food critics on Yelp tell me. I had a hankering for some eggs, cheese, meat, and potato rolled in a tortilla so I decided to venture in on a Saturday afternoon. When I arrived I noticed the place was busy. There were no seats available inside, which isn't saying much because the layout in this place is tight. The kind of tightness when you fly economy to st. Louis. I walked up to the sole dude taking orders at the register. I knew something was off with this guy right away. Not a friendly greeting, not a "hey valued customer, what would you like." Instead I was met with a blank awkward stare through this dudes blacked framed Ray-Ban spectacles. Think of a rude hipster who is annoyed by your presence. It felt like I was standing on a stage auditioning for the next Jurassic Park movie. I put that aside and ordered a burrito with steak, eggs, avocado, cheese, and potatoes. I also ordered a cappuccino. Simple, clean, and nice. I think I paid around $15 total. For some dumb reason, I left a tip. For what, I don't know but I did. When I completed my transaction the dude said absolutely nothing. No thank you. He just gave me an in n out number and told me it would be 15-20 minutes. I asked him about my cappuccino and without saying a word, he turns around and puts a cup underneath a bigger version of a Nespresso maker. Presses a button and bam! The worst cappuccino I have ever tasted! It actually tasted like a Luke warm yoohoo chocolate drink. I took my chocolate milk and walked out to enjoy the malnutritioned ducks swimming in the man made lake. About 10 minutes later, I came back in and my burrito was sitting on the pick up counter, nicely cut in half to expose all of its inner glory. It really did look good. It came with a side of green salsa too. I dove into this bad boy and tasted nothing! The same feeling when I spoke to the dude at the register but this was taste. And no, I don't or didn't lose my taste buds from COVID. I don't think they have discovered salt yet. Very bland. The taco bell in the same parking lot would have been better and cheaper. And whoever came up with the green garlic sauce from death needs to find a different career. Really disappointed trough. Your quality and customer service has gone away down. Stick to the original idea of sandwiches and avoid hiring moody hipsters.
