Parking tends to really suck in this area, but the swankiness of the tavern itself more than makes up for it. Since it is located in the same building as other businesses, there is a parking structure, but as to the prices, God only knows.
The interior is absolutely gorgeous, day or night, with a full bar surrounded by plush and cushy seating areas for drinking and a few tables scattered around for enjoying a full-blown meal. There are three separate menus: One for breakfast/ brunch which ends at 3PM, another smaller lunch menu which runs between 3-4PM, and a dinner menu which runs from 4PM to closing time. The decor is a cross between early 1900's art styles and modern-day architecture with a bit of "LA hipster" mixed in for good measure. They have a unique wall on one side that seems to be made entirely of books, but the different colors form the pictures of well-dressed animals in vintage clothing.
The brunch menu is pretty modest, but it has some very popular items which they are famous for, like their Stuffed French Toast, Brunch Burgers, Crispy Fried Chicken & Waffles, and let's not forget those decadent cocktails.
Speaking of which, deciding on a cocktail, alone, is an endeavor. Being a coffee-lover myself, the decision was easy, as they have a Mocha Martini with homemade chocolate liqueur and Lavazza espresso. However, drinks vary from old-fashioned favorites like mimosas and bellinis, to hand-crafted specialties like the Lemon-Berry Mule infused with lemon-berry vodka. I can tell you that the Mocha Martini is one of the smoothest coffee cocktails I have ever had with the perfect balance of chocolate flavor and liqueur. I also tried the Tuck Old-Fashioned with fig and walnut-infused rye, but it was way too strong for a brunch drink in my opinion. I tasted absolutely none of the underlying flavors in there, just a hint of citrus.
Given how sugary my drinks were, I left the French Toast for another time and instead went with their Crispy Fried Chicken & Waffles with spicy bacon maple syrup and the Brunch Burger with a fried egg, spiced bacon, and sharp cheddar. The crispness of both the fried chicken and the waffles cannot be understated. You don't even need a knife to cut them, just use the side of your fork. The flavor is all there, as well; a deliciously-decadent balance between sweet and savory married by a satisfying texture.
The burger was absolutely amazing: Super-juicy, perfectly-balanced high-quality ingredients, and way too small for my liking. Served with a small side salad, you will definitely need something else to compliment this dish. Get ready to make a mess with this one!
As for the service, it is passable. Given that it is a fancy joint and they are open all day, don't expect chipper attitudes all day long. However, my server was both helpful and attentive throughout my meal. And with how fancy this place is and how relaxing the atmosphere, the service should be the least of your worries. Get ready for a sizable bill.
