"A one-stop shop for all your organic groceries, as well as a great salad and soup bar, smoothies and juices (and we love that they keep bees on the rooftop). The staff of hipsters here are always friendly and happy to help. There's a second location in the Gulch. "

Someone told me about this place and wanted to try it doe a long time. The store looks great and some good availability on ghe shelves. But this place is way more than I am willing to pay. My mouth dropped seeing some of these prices. 1 lb salmon cost $20 and 1 lb from the salad bar is $12.99. You do have some reasonable prices, but you can get those items at Publix, Kroger, and Walmart for cheaper. I basically walked in and out.

Nikkie Key

Google
Nice variety of mushrooms packets. I wished they carried ahcc and beta glucan. However they still have a nice selection of items

Jamie Ferrell

Google
Overpriced is an understatement. I've been to this location before and got a salad and was satisfied. Don't visit their salad bar unless you plan to pay $20 for a 1 pound salad. Not a good selection on the salad bar, but for what it was and only one meat choice completely outrageous. I was upset with my $20 salad and I walked out and forgot my receipt. When I walked back in the cashier Amber and the other lady were having an active conversation about me and making fun of me because I did not like the price. Way to treat your customers. If you want people to stop going to your business this is exactly how you do it. I will never, ever step foot in that place agand whoever the business owner is you should be ashamed of your employees. If you don't believe me, play your camera back. Nashville has tons of other places to go. Remember that

We do so enjoy this great outlet for healthy eating and so much more. I will say everytime we come here we have our favorites and also discover new yummy and nutritious goodness. We both so love the prepared foods section with the inside and outside eating areas. They are always spot on with their quality as well as variety. We are so thankful they are apart of this community and the best thing is they are in more than just one location!

Google
Good place to go if you're looking for organic items, healthy items or fresh local lettuce that you can't find in the regular grocery stores. I got a chocolate vegan cake out of there last night and it was delicious!!

Google
I was looking for an organic grocery store and came across this place. They have a lot of produce to choose from. They are not cheap so if you're looking to save a buck or two go to Trader Joe's. The store is not very big yet they have big hearts in service. I think they need a lesson on proper bagging etiquette. Chips don't go in the bags first and cantaloupe second. Cuz what you get are crushed chips. Please care for each and every item you place in the bag if you still want customers to shop there.

Google
Very expensive for OK quality. It’s a missed attempt at a natural grocer. The meat is not fresh, the chicken is in giant plastic packaging and most their fish is farmed. Staff can be very rude at checkout. 2 stars cause it’s the only natural store jn town and their vitamin and supplement selection is decent.

David Patrick

Google
Decent selection but this location is very far from my home, so I don't see myself going often
google avatar

Mila M.

Yelp
I went for a rotisserie chicken but they didn't have any so I got the hot food bar it was expensive but it's pretty good. If it's possible they should create a weekly or daily menu and post it online so we know the options

Yelp
Turnip Truck is a locally owned natural foods grocer with locations around Nashville. I tried a Maypop sparkling water at a local event in town, and saw Turnip Truck was supposed to carry these locally made canned waters in their store-- We had to give them a visit. We also love supporting LGBT-owned businesses. To our excitement, they carried each flavor and had many in stock for purchase. The interior and selection reminded me of a smaller whole foods grocery store, just a lot smaller. Turnip Truck carries organic and sustainable goods including produce, beverages, snacks/candy, personal care items, and vitamins/supplements. They also have great small gifts such as small jewelry, candles, and baskets. The prices are a little steep, but that's regular for a store of this type, honestly. It's a cool place to kill time or shop when in East Nashville-- and I'm glad they also carry Nashville-made goods! We will be back.

Yelp
I mean...it's atrociously overpriced however there are some redeeming qualities. Their hot bar is good in the morning despite be again...Way over priced. Their produce is excellent...their selection of specialty things that you would never see at a traditional grocer is good too. I think for me and my family it's a rare occasion to shop there cause Im not a millionaire however I see the good and I see the bad. But I think their vision is to be a natural grocer and more power to them.
google avatar

Claudine M.

Yelp
Not what I expected, I couldn't find barely any organic produce. Great location, ample parking.
google avatar

Walter C.

Yelp
If you can get past the exorbitantly high prices and painfully unfriendly service, this place has some great things. The produce is very good quality but most of all they offer a variety of unique bougie items. Every 5 things you pick up will run $100 give or take. $7 fancy mushrooms, ok! $17 banana bread, you should be ashamed.

Sandra R.

Yelp
Very good food worth every penny Healthy and delicious always stop by for a quick lunch to take work easier than ordering food while im at work
google avatar

Danielle G.

Yelp
Smaller than WF, but has everything you'd need if wanting to shop at a natural foods grocer. Produce, meats, snacks, personal care (dental, hygiene, aromatherapy, vitamins/minerals/herbs, etc.) plus a good alcohol and drinks section. They also have a deli, juice bar and smoothie bar. Super nice staff, if I lived in the area it would be a regular stop for me.
google avatar

Yelp
A very health conscious store with prices to match! To be fair I don't shop here for my day to day groceries it's specialty items and the hot bar. The employees are always helpful and provide a positive experience. The parking lot is very small and getting out of it isn't easy either.

Yelp
HAIR IN FOOD and managers won't respond! I recently bought a cookie at Turnip, and when I opened the package, I saw a hair baked into it! I went back, told someone and got another cookie....only to find another hair in that one!!! I'm talking BAKED into it, and it was definitely not my hair (mine is dark and long and this hair was short and blonde.) THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME: I pulled a hair out of a croissant a few years ago, and have seen hair sitting on top of pasta in the cold bar. This time, I emailed management to let them know they have a sanitation issue, only to be ignored twice. Pretty shitty customer service to someone who's shopped at and supported Turnip for years! I won't be shopping at Turnip any more and will let everyone know to avoid any food made at the East location. Unless you like eating other people's hair...

Yelp
A huge disappointment. For a health food store, their salad and hot food bar is 99% non-organic, overpriced, and terrible quality food. It takes some extreme talents to make food that is this bad! Hot food is served cold and cold food is served hot. They do not offer water on tap, so you have to buy bottled water with your meal. This place clearly has no idea what sustainable and healthy mean. Such a shame. Prices for other items seem higher than other bigger health food stores. Too many non-organic items throughout the store. Basically a regular store with some organic items. Greenwashing.

Yelp
The more I dive into a whole foods diet, the more I appreciate finding foods with less ingredients in them or finding packaged food that have identifiable ingredients put in it. But I have to say that I was skeptic of getting a rotisserie chicken that had all the fun labels of organic, humanely-raised, antibiotic-free but decided to try it anyway. While it wasn't injected full of fillers and salt, you can actually taste the clean flavor of the meat. So much that I decided to make a bone broth from it. I can say, I made the best bone broth with the chicken bones and veggies that I am instantly hooked to make more. Something about guilt free indulgences that benefit your body's digestion is a win.

Yelp
Love the Turnip Truck! Local grocery store with a strong commitment to sustainability, local product, and community connections. The organic smoothies and cold pressed juices are sweet and refreshing on a hot day. They have a kombucha bar with refillable growlers. While on the small side they do have a good selection of produce, a hot bar (great soup), and salad bar. I like picking up local goods, like honey and the addictive Nashville Blend lettuce from Greener Roots Farm! While the "new" building was supposed to offer more space they missed the mark. The parking lot is poorly designed and way too small. It is difficult to get in and out safely. They have some bistro style tables to enjoy outdoor eating but the road noise and parking lot view is a missed opportunity in my opinion. The inside tables can accommodate 2, 4, 8 people but again the design is odd and location noisy. It is nice that they added some plants to soften the seating area.

Yelp
Rony I n The store is better than the old store as far as the size it offers many different varieties of organic and natural foods. The parking is a bit tight and when you coming off of Woodland Street you can sometimes get yourself into a scrape if you're not careful. The seafood section lacks a lot of products and I'm sure it's fairly impossible to keep it in stock as it is hard to get just about anywhere in Nashville. The wine section is a little limited and prices are fairly reasonable however. The store does offer a lot of to go items weather be hot or cold and the beer selection is pretty decent along with the Satyr selection. Hipster and hippie is the running theme throughout the store and service is usually tempered at best however it's in the hood so this is where we go in a pinch.

Yelp
Came here with a couple of friends. Nothing impressive, just a regular grocery store like Trader Joe's or Sprouts. Smaller scale. They have a second floor with tables and chairs for dining in. They have a hot bar, a soup bar, a juice bar, a salad bar, they also have a limited fresh produce section and they have reverse osmosis water for sale. Prices are relatively on the higher side. I tried their soup bar- I had the white chicken chili with cilantro and it was pretty yummy. $4.99 for a medium cup. I pair it with a fresh baked bread . They have a bakery and their cookies are good. Over all, not a bad place, but I would not go out of my way to come here. Nothing special unless I'm looking for organic and relatively higher priced items.

Yelp
I love the prepared foods department at this natural market. They have an excellent salad bar, hot bar, soup bar, and deli. The quality is way higher than Whole Foods and way cheaper. In house made lunch items like sandwiches and burritos are mostly only around $5.99. They also have an excellent selection of kombucha on tap. They have around six flavors at any given time and a 16-ounce cup ranges from $3.50 - $4. There is a large eating area upstairs with tables, a drinking fountain, and restrooms. I saw a lot of complaints about parking in other reviews, but I've never had any issues. It's hard to complain about free parking. I usually come on busy weekends and there is always a spot. The store has two locations, but I like this location better. The other location does not have kombucha on tap and seemed to have less selection overall. I suggest stopping by this location next time you are in need of a quick, healthy meal.

Yelp
Food tastes like it is old. It is almost as if the food is made from old food then left in the cooler and reused. It is gross to taste. Food and bugs found in food and no associates in food service wear hairnets.

Kelly M.

Yelp
Great store with an excellent curated selection. For those people who say it's pricey, please understand that they do not have the same buying power as Walmart. If you want, cheap, and inferior, there are other options.

Yelp
Coming here as often as I do, it's poor form to leave the star rating at a 2. I've noticed less turnover (which, I think, drove a lot of the previous personnel issues) and I have decreased my footprint at the grocery store so as to guarantee a more reliable and positive experience: if there's not an hour+ time left before close, I don't attempt to buy a smoothie and I only purchase the loose, unpackaged vegetables up front. One time I came in in search of scallions and was dismissed in a very rude way after having to wait for the person working the front section to finish his personal conversation. I was about to transform into the red/anger Inside Out emotion when another clerk saved the day with helpful information and - shock - the item I was looking for (the same item the previous employee told me wasn't in stock... without bothering to look). Given strict application to certain conditions, it's okay. It could be more/better but, you know, baby steps.

Yelp
I am now officially obsessed with this grocery store! They are locally owned, have every healthy food and or supplement I was looking for, and the staff is super friendly and helpful! Plus, I had what I think was the best pico de gallo ever and they make it fresh there. I highly recommend the turnip truck!

Rylie B.

Yelp
the best local grocery store! a little higher prices but you can find some unique items!
google avatar

Yelp
If the parking at the Turnip Truck is any indication, people in East Nashville are dead serious about their natural food. I've been to this location twice (while visiting from out of town) and drivers often appear almost crazed when entering and exiting the small lot. This hair-raising adventure is what keeps them at 4 stars. That being said, everything else about this market is glorious! The store has everything you'd want from a local, health food shop. Their deli case, hot/salad bar, and soups made me wish it was closer to lunchtime not breakfast when we were shopping. I keep TT bookmarked so that I always remember this gem when I need basics or a snack/meal while visiting Nashville. The items are carefully curated as the space isn't as vast as a Whole Foods or regular grocery. However, I've been able to find the products I love and more everytime I shop.
google avatar

Jamie G.

Yelp
Whole Foods price for Kroger quality at this location. I've been to the Charlotte Pike location several times, and that one was great -- fresh food, very friendly employees, and a clean store. East Nashville, not so much. Food had been sitting out for awhile. I asked an employee about the ingredients in a salad, and she said "I don't know." I'd skip this one.
google avatar

Shelby C.

Yelp
3.5/5 I love this place. I really really do. Everything is so organized, it's seems good, it's good for you and the environment. I REALLY LOVE THIS PLACE. The price is what knocks me down. For example: a healthy brand of chips at a competition store is around 3-5 dollars where here they are 5+ dollars at a minimum. I know the cost of running this place can not be cheap and I really can't knock them for that at all. I love it. But the price will definitely detour me to going to a nationwide chain versus staying closer. On the upside, I would definitely pop in frequently for the salad/hot bar/sushi/juice area. Very comparable prices to other grocery stores NOT on this side of town (rhymes with Smole Smoods).

Jhessyca A.

Yelp
Perfect place in the heart of east Nashville. Mostly organic foods lots of local produce.
google avatar

Stephanie V.

Yelp
Great natural market, but too expensive for your everyday items you can get down the street. I'm all for better produce and fair pricing, and I know that doesn't always mean cheaper, but turnip truck continues to have pricing higher than most grocery stores for their shelves items. I actually have never bought fresh produce from them just because I know I'd have to make another trip for the shelves or refrigerated items. They are good for soups and some harder to find organic/natural items, but they are not my go to for regular grocery shopping. Parking lot attached; gets crowded quickly though.
google avatar

Jamiku G.

Yelp
I really do love the Turnip Truck. People here are very helpful and nice.I love that this isn't a very large grocery, but that it has more of an intimate feel to it. Lately I've been purchasing my young coconuts and Good Health chips from there. Why hasn't anyone told me about these chips? They're so addictive. Oh & the crunch is amazing! They have pretty simple ingredients (mainly avocado oil, sea salt and potatoes)and delicious. I've included a pic of the most recent flavors that I got. Another one of my recent favs here is their soups. I've been so sleeping on them! From what I understand they rotate the types of soups that they put out. I can't wait until they put back out the seafood one that I tried a couple of weeks ago. It was so good. The texture and seasoning was perfection.
google avatar

Justin T.

Yelp
Looking to pick up a few items for Thanksgiving essentials I forgot at Whole Foods, I made my first trip to the Turnip Truck. I've never left a grocery store empty handed in my life, but I guess there's a first time for everything. The store was clean and had some interesting items on the shelves, for sure. But no pies to be found. $7 soy sauce. I hate to draw on East Nashville stereotypes, but arrogant stuck-up shoppers everywhere. I felt completely unwanted and unaccepted as a customer. So I left, went to the horrible East Nashville Kroger, and actually managed to have a better experience and didn't pay $7 for soy sauce. Guess that's the price of not planning a Green Hills run right.
google avatar

Meghan B.

Yelp
Update: still love this place! We just needed a couple things while vacationing in TN and The Turnip Truck had it all- electrolyte water, zevia, and a great bulk section for making my own trail mix. Just love this place :)
google avatar

Nikki S.

Yelp
Sooooo much better than the Turnip Truck in the Gulch area, far more items and better selection. Staff are super helpful and friendly. I only get my fill station water from here. Been coming here for years and it's always been my experience.
google avatar

Eve B.

Yelp
Turnip Truck is a great local market in The Gultch area of Nashville. They have lots of vegan products and a good selection of frozen foods and pantry items. Cheaper than Whole Foods with a Trader Joe's vibe. Turnip truck is a great place to go for all your natural grocery needs. Plus they had some free samples!?
google avatar

M R.

Yelp
This is the one to go to! Main Branch I think. Way better than on Pine. This store is larger. If not bakery on location here. Bakery selection will be bigger. This store went on mass sale one time I came 'to town' I was asking manager she said they go on mass sale about once a month. Means even if the companies or vendors are all different there is just shelves littered with coupon price tags. That is a good thing because they are little/way more expensive than Whole Foods. The selection is better though. Less generic and more interesting selection. Though don't expect same savings like I said Bakery is better than Whole Foods (in USA). They have a hot foods counter it is small but they have lots of soup. Whole Foods is better in their counter. Whole Foods has better smoothies/ Drink/smoothie counter here The store is clean but snug Bathrooms are waaay upstairs. You have to go there if you want to lunch. But there is also nice seating outside. They are by a park which I bet makes high rent. See what I mean by nicer location though

Tamlyn W.

Yelp
The prepared food at the turnip truck is just plain awful! I've tried the breakfast biscuits, burritos, meals & desserts. I give up. I will not purchase another item. They must not be "eating" or tasting their own food! Ugh!
google avatar

Scott J.

Yelp
an east nashville gem. they have alot for a small store. fresh food and produce. the staff are exceptionally nice and polite.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
I would give it 4 stars with a better parking lot, it's starting to look a lot like Trader Joe's.... I absolutely love the fresh breads made with good whole ingredients. I also like the selection of organic wines. The hot bar always looks great but I've never tried it. I only give 3 stars because of getting in and out of that place is ridiculous, from the parking lot to the cramped aisles. I hear a new one is opening, I hope parking is better and the layout is done a little better.
google avatar

Ute L.

Yelp
For a health market, I found the vegan and gluten-free options to be quite limited. That said, the market is big, very clean and has plenty of free parking attached. Grabbed a small cup of vegan pumpkin soup that was downright delicious and 100% crave worthy. Also some quinoa salad with cranberries from the deli counter, which was just okay. A little too sweet. They definitely need more vegan options in the prepared foods section, and there was only one coconut layer cake made of almond flour that was wheat free but not vegan.
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
What has happened to the former worth of the Turnip Truck. What was once a great little grocery shop has become nothing more than a poorly stocked shadow of its former, cramped self. It is still an expensive place to shop, but it has become just another tiny little store which bears little resemblance to the grocery boutique of yore. The fruit and vegetable quality has suffered and there appears no real reason why one would continue to patronize The Turnip Truck over Whole Foods, Publix, or even, dare I say it, Kroger. Tired, limp, expensive produce, and day to day necessities which in some cases border, for the same brands, on twice the price of the competition is a poor and unsustainable recipe for continued success. We have doggedly supported this place for years, but our recent visits have changed our minds. It's sad, but it's reality. RIP.
google avatar

Emilia C.

Yelp
I like the Turnip Truck, but it isn't anything special. It is truly just a more expensive version of Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. However, the staff is super friendly, and they do have a lot of convenient lunch options if you are in a pinch. I also appreciate that they have a lot of local products and sell plenty of items in bulk.
google avatar

Faye S.

Yelp
More personal and good selections for a local grocery store I bought something I can't find in Az so it was a winner for me

Tami J.

Yelp
For the amount of money that I spent the customer service was lacking at the store and the presence of management. I enjoyed the variety and the arrangement of the store. The prices were a bit exorbitant compared to other brands in the area such as whole foods and fresh market in particular the meat section. I was especially disappointed in the service that I received at checkout from an elderly clerk by the name of Sydney. His attitude was extremely nasty and very unwelcoming which prompted me never to return to that turnip truck location. I had a better experience at the Charlotte Pike location which was much bigger and the customer service was extremely inviting.
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
This place is awesome. A friend and I were visiting Nashville on New Years Day. We were afraid that our options would be limited, as far as dinner, but this place was open with a great soup and salad bar (their hot bar wasn't completely open, but that didn't stop us from having plenty of options). We also got wheatgrass shots! After we ate we shopped around. Awesome selection of natural products for bath and body, as well as food. They sold all of my favorite kombucha brands! I'll definitely be back every time I visit Nashville!
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
The Turnip Truck is similar to Whole Foods, but smaller with more local products. There is a parking lot and you can usually find a spot there. I must say, their food is almost all organic and very delicious - but you pay for it. Prices are the highest I have ever seen at a market. If you have the money, definitely worth it though. They also have a great lunch bar where they have fresh salads, etc for grab and go. All of the employees are very helpful.
google avatar

A. Jesse Jiryu D.

Yelp
A multifaceted grocery store. You can get fresh basics, or hippy healthfood specialties and bulk items, including some organic cosmetics and toiletries. There's a hot and cold salad bar and some prepared food you can take upstairs to eat for a satisfying and unfussy lunch. I shopped here three times in a week, and each cashier who rung me out gave me some bit of special advice: the staff there seem happy and awake, paying attention to each customer.
google avatar

Mopsie B.

Yelp
Why schlep to Whole Foods if you can just come here? Prices might be a tad higher on some items but the quality is there and the juice bar is the best! I get the beet one- Doug something. So good! I can feel my liver detoxifying...There's also homemade bread, great organic produce, prepared items, wine and beer and soaps and lotions...most everything you need for a stay in the area and you get to support a local business that is truly invested in health and wellness as opposed to Whole Foods, which is now really dumbed down.
google avatar

Yelp
So glad Turnip Truck got a bigger building! I loved going to the old location, but they definitely could have used more room. Problem solved! For those of us accustomed to the old store's layout, they kept the aisles basically the same. There's just a lot more room. The aisles are wider; there's more shelf space; and the parking lot is bigger too. The new east side location now has a salad bar like the other ones do. And I didn't venture up there, but the second floor of this spot is a dining area. I think this is a great idea because I've definitely stopped here for lunch to-go (wraps, sandwiches, salad, etc) and eaten it elsewhere. From what I can tell, nothing was lost in the move. They just got a serious upgrade. Everybody wins!

Yelp
Big and spacious. Clean and new. Out of my budget. Went in and asked if they ever carry broccoli rabe. Was told, "You know, it's so expensive, the manager won't bring it in. The organic asparagus is so expensive and no one buys it." So.. I called Whole Foods and asked if they have broccoli rabe. I was told, "$2.99 a bunch." That's in my budget and it's available. Sometimes we just need to get our priorities straight.

Yelp
Oh turnip truck you saved my life when I moved to the east side. I could buy kombucha on this side of the bridge and organic fruit!!!! You helped me feel at home in a neighborhood I was very unfamiliar with. The new turnip truck is nice. I love the salad bar, but seems like there is that one item I need they do not have. I do appreciate they now carry our dog food at the lowest price in town. That is a big deal when your highly allergic dog cost you a fortune in food ! I must really love her. Keep it up turnip truck- you make me smile

Yelp
Firstly, the parking lot can be a bit of a nightmare at peak hours. I can't say how many almost wrecks I've seen. The store itself is great, I love the big windows letting copious amounts of light in. When you walk in you feel like you are in a quaint little co-op. The drink cooler is amazing with so many selections. There's always something new when I come in, too. The soup bar is solid at having 6 options, but I'm bummed because they used to have my FAVORITE broccoli cheddar soup ever, and then they changed to a different one not nearly as good. The green labeled soups are veggie friendly and the orange labels have meat or a meat base. Many people come for the produce and the alkalized water. Also, the meat selection is promising and I've gotten some quality fish here for a decent price. What I love about this store is there is always something new on the shelves. The health and beauty section is nice too with knowledgeable staff to assist. Their sales last through the month so go back if you find a sweet deal! The ginger shots do wonders and are cheaper than I've seen elsewhere. I have seen the lines backed up at the registers, and I've seen employees looking like they could use some more work to do, but overall friendly service. The upstairs is spacious if you want a seat with your food, or just check out the views. The bathrooms are upstairs, too. Check out this little market if you haven't. They bake their own pastries in house too- and the brownies are to die for!

Yelp
Love this place. I buy a lot of produce and quite a few hard-to-find health food items from here. I stop by for a panini or something from the hot food bar when I'm near by and it's always great .

Yelp
I love this place! Staff is helpful and friendly. If you go there often they will get to know you and what you prefer. Great selection and prices are par for a health food store.
