The 18 Best Restaurants in Dayton, Ohio | Eater

"One of Dayton’s busiest diners for good reason, the Ugly Duckling slings old-school breakfast and some of the city’s best burgers in a small dining room in the historic St. Anne’s Hill neighborhood. There’s no wasted space here, and you should expect to wait a bit on weekend mornings. But it’s worth any hassle for the best chicken and waffles in town, served with spicy syrup; the waffles should be good, seeing as the restaurant is co-owned by Uncle Boof of Uncle Boof’s World Famous Pancake Mix. Every inch of wall space is covered in artwork, some kitschy and ironic, some more knowingly socially conscious." - David Nilsen

I cannot express how delicious this place is. The service was great. The atmosphere is perfect. The food was absolutely incredible. We got the gluten free waffle Sammy with goat cheese with loaded tots, gravy biscuit sandwich, and kids pancake. Everything was so yummy. I can’t believe it took us this long to try it and can’t wait to try every single thing on the menu. The gluten free and vegan options are perfection! Don’t sleep on this local spot. 10000% worth the visit!

Got brunch and it was fantastic. We had the Brad’s hash and the breakfast burrito. Both were amazing. So much food that we couldn’t finish them both and ended up taking half the burrito home. Their secret sauce is fantastic. Only complaint was that I wasn’t a fan of their hot sauce. I ordered it on the side. It was nice and hot, but not my jam. We will definitely be coming back.

I ordered the chicken club with tots and a cup of coffee and it was a nice basic breakfast. Met one of the owners and he was a very nice and friendly guy! The vibes of the place gave this hey this is my every day place. Price was a bit spicy but that’s due to market today. Coffee was a bit watery but not a deal breaker. The coffee was sourced locally so you gotta respect that. Will I come again!?!?!? Yes, yes I believe I will to try other menu options!! Updated thought: now that I think about it, the fact that the chicken cutlet was the size of a small piece of paper and everything there I could’ve bought at the grocery store for literally less then 7 dollars I now feel kind of robbed. Hear me out, the price for a bag of frozen chicken cutlets is roughly $12-$13. They charged me $17 for 1 chicken cutlet sandwich! That’s the price for a whole bag and a half of chicken pieces $11 if you go to Gordon’s. Being local and across from a school I now feel like they could do better to connect with the community cause those prices will drive customers to McDonald and take away from this nice establishment.

I came here for lunch after an hour drive from Cincinnati. We were seated quickly by a less than friendly server. She took our orders right away, and they were only 3 or 4 small parties besides us in the restaurant. Then it was 20 minutes before we got our drinks! my boyfriend for a breakfast platter and it came with the wrong side. He said it was good but unremarkable. The highlight was by far my meal-one of the best vegan breakfast burritos I've ever had, and a delicious vegan(huge!) pancake. I was so excited to try this place, known for vegan options, and was sadly disappointed. We won't be back and I wouldn't make the drive from Cincy for it!

A bit expensive but very much worth it. Even for a Sunday brunch, we only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. I really enjoyed my chicken and waffle sandwich, which to my knowledge is gluten free (I could be misremembering). The syrup had a tiny hint of spiciness that really took it to the next level. The coffee wasn't too bad either. I didn't finish my first mug so I'm not sure if they do free refills or not. There's a lot of cool artwork all over the walls, and they had a little game on the table you can play. I can't wait to go back and try more options!

Hidden gem in Dayton that serves all day breakfast. Blueberry Bites were really yummy, not too sweet, topped with fresh blueberries. Biscuits and gravy are like no other I have ever had before but that's not a bad thing. Tots are insanely delicious.

My friend and I decided to try this place out. It was our first visit. I have to say that it was a little challenging to find if you aren't familiar with downtown. We didn't realize it was a remodeled home and the sign isn't very visible or noticeable from the street. When it comes to parking, it's a bit tricky, but you can just park on the street. There is a back parking, but only for the other businesses beside it. You can risk being towed, but we went on a Sunday morning and it seemed just fine. 😃 Nonetheless, let's get to the good stuff, the ambiance is very casual dining. Great for family brunch events. It's also great for breakfast dates too. It's a chill place with pretty unique art and photos on the wall. As a vegan, this place had a great selection. The best part to me was the pancake since it was also gluten free and tasted INCREDIBLE! No joke. I don't like pancakes that much, but I was a fan of these. The vegan sausages (more like flat patties) were okay. They definitely felt store bought and thawed out. But my friend's burrito looked amazing though. And you can make them vegan. I don't recall if they had an egg substitute, but nonetheless, the food was good.
