29 Must-Eat Tacos in Austin

"Some of the city’s best vegan tacos can be found at this Holly truck for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The breakfast tacos use fluffy scrambled tofu, and the “fish” taco is deceitfully great. Order up endless combinations of the taco trios to share with friends at book club or while bingeing your new favorite show together. You can mix and match plant-based meats, from chorizo to al pastor, served on flour or corn tortillas, or opt for the Nomaste Bowl with rice, black beans, cabbage, pico de gallo, and vegan crema." - Vox Creative

Google
Ordered an insanely delicious crunch wrap. It was perfectly layered, the tortilla was crispy where it was grilled and soft on the inside. A lil bit of heat (probably not spicy to most) and flavorful. I'm lucky I don't live in Austin, I'd visit this place a couple of times a week. I will have to pass by on my way outta town so I'll be back!

Elaine Fonseca, REALTOR

Google
I had to visit this place & it did not disappoint! I ordered the Gracias Madre Tacos. They were warm, packed with flavor, & very filling. I visited on a Saturday early afternoon & found plenty of parking & no wait time. A must visit if you are vegan & in Austin!!

Sweet vegan spot with a bunch of 100% vegan food trucks. Good outside shared picnic space. Got a giant vegan burrito and a vegan Nashville hot chicken sandwich, which were amazing.

Google
Excellent food. Period. Very filling. I wish there was a drink food truck just for variety. But as far as food The Vegan Nom is top tier. Flavorful! Outside seating on a super hot day is surprisingly nice with misters and shade.

Google
The food court has immaculate vibes - I know that sentence sounds ridiculous but trust me, it's a fun spot. The food is incredible for vegans and non-vegans alike. Highly recommend the Kbbq taco and the Birdie Nachos.

Google
I couldn’t believe it: vegan food trucks parked to enjoy some delicious bites while outside and enjoying dope mural art and listening to good tunes. It was after 7, dark and cold which meant we had the place to ourselves. While each truck had things we wanted to try, i came here specifically for the Vegan Nom and 🤩 while i wanted to try everything, I had the Birdie Sanders and holy YUM! Will be back!

Google
Great choices, great food, and filling! The big burritos here are fantastic. On a hot day they’ve got shade, fans, and misters going too!

Yelp
This food truck was awesome. I was so excited to see good vegan tacos. I've never found a vegan taco that had actual heat until I came to this place. The staff were very nice and let me know they made the vegan meat from mushrooms. We experienced the food truck, not the restaurant, but the food in this mobile option was top-notch.

Yelp
As a non-vegan, I don't think it's fair for my review to have as much weight here, but I'll put it anyways. I've had the vegan nom's taco truck twice now and I'm perfectly mixed on it. The good: the team in the truck is always very nice and I'm so glad we have as many vegan options as we do here in East Austin. That said, I'm still looking for good flavors and I think this truck gives a mixed bag. The best thing I've had here is the buffalo "chicken" taco - sauce is great and mixes things together well in the taco. Also the queso they have is pretty decent for vegan queso. The not: I definitely don't love all the tacos here. Recently I got one of the breakfast tacos (scramble + tempeh bacon) and while it smelled very good, the flavors just didn't hit for me. The tempeh was crispy, but he flavor was off for me (definitely not "like bacon" imo)

Yelp
Best. Vegan. Breakfast burrito. Ever. Period. So good!! Cool location with a few other food trucks of different assortments of plant based goodness. the owner of is one of the nicest people, too! So glad we found this place while visiting from out of town.

Yelp
I absolutely loved trying this place for the first time today! I got the Migas taco and the Gracias madre taco and both were delicious. The Migas taco was by far my favorite because I loved the sauces on it! I would have enjoyed the Gracias Madre taco more if it had some sort of salsa but I still loved it. Everything looked so good and I hope to be able to try the nachos too! It's worth noting that this food truck park is not at all wheelchair accessible. To get to the trucks, you have to walk on large rocks. Thankfully, I ended up conversing with someone waiting for their food and he was able to order and bring me food. I wish there was an accessible path but I'm so grateful I was able to try this. So yummy!!

Yelp
Food: 10/10, Atmosphere: 9/10, Service: 10/10 Nom Nom Nom!! Can you say phenomenal tacos?? There's nothing better than walking up to a VEGAN FOOD PARK and indulging in some of THE best tacos you've ever had. The creativity and flavor profile are in a class of their own! My favorites were the "Birdie Sanders" and "KBBQ Taco". Please check this place out if you're in Austin or near by!

Yelp
Still loving Vegan Nom after all these years! Consistently delicious and piping hot, they nail my order every time. They're my favorite tacos, favorite comfort food, and favorite food to bring with me on a plane. Grateful for Vegan Nom!
google avatar

Anna B.

Yelp
Incredible flavors, super soft tortillas, amazing sauces, cozy comfortable outdoor seating. The food came out piping hot made with super fresh ingredients. We were back the next day to try out the breakfast fare and it did not disappoint. This is how vegan tacos should be made - rest of the world, take note!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow wow wow. I visited Vegan Nom on a recommendation from my boyfriend, and was very skeptical that vegan tacos could be as satisfying or tasty as their meat counterparts. Boy was I wrong! I ordered a KBBQ taco and Birdie Sanders taco. Each taco was well seasoned, very filling and made with such fresh ingredients. Had I not known they were vegan, I would have been fooled! Looking forward to trying some other meals from the various food trucks that make up Vegan Nom. Will be back!
google avatar

Kristine L.

Yelp
I've been to The Vegan Nom a couple of times and it never disappoints! Each taco and burrito is packed with a ton of flavor!! My favorites are the Grilled Avocado Reale and KBBQ burrito. All of the ingredients are super fresh and taste like a full meal. It's located in a small food truck park on Caesar Chavez with a small lot in the back. There are a few benches under trees and fans. Service is quick and very friendly!
google avatar

Yelp
THE BIG: Vegan food truck in the heart of East Austin. Parking in the back and picnic tables to eat. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here on a Sunday with a couple of Golds Fit members. It was a bit hot outside however the company was great. Ordering was simple and the menu wasn't too expansive. I got the kbbq burrito and it was delicious. The vegan chicken had good spice to it and I did enjoy the mimosa that came with it. Tons of other choices to select like the breakfast burritos if you're always feeling breakfasty. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall ~$14 for the kbbq burrito and a free mimosa. They do run out of mimosas so if you want one, come early!

Yelp
We have been to this vegan taco place multiple times. Honestly you can't go wrong with any of their tacos they are all so good. I would recommend getting at least two since they are small if you're really hungry, you could probably also do three. This is also a great option for someone that is gluten-free and vegan. I personally am not gluten-free. However, I do have a friend that is vegan gluten-free, and when she came over to our house we got tacos from this place. She loved them so much. One of my favorite ones is the birdie Sanders taco . I like the Buffalo chicken and the chipotle on it. I also have tried the Delray fish taco, which tastes pretty good as well. Highly recommend this place if you are exploring vegan food or if you just want some good tacos !
google avatar

Jenifer M.

Yelp
I'm not vegan and this food truck is spot on. I like to get something different every time I go.
google avatar

Phillip B.

Yelp
The food was amazing!!! The service was great and friendly and the ambiance of the area were warm and welcoming! A must go to spot!!

Yasmeen P.

Yelp
I tried the burgers from the burger food truck, worker was rude / looked like he did not want to be there. I was hoping the food would save this place from the horrible attitude but the burgers were horribletasted like straight dog food. Definitely over priced for what it was
google avatar

Bryant B.

Yelp
This has become one of my favorite go-to spots once I'm in Austin. And I've only been to this place once. For those who are curious and want to try out vegan food this would be a great place to try It's so delicious tasting you can't tell that it's not vegan. Get there grilled avocado tacos in the Jorge burrito which tastes like a actual meat loaded burrito but better. The mac and cheese was good as well The service was good and the people were patient. It's an outdoor patio setting and you order from a food truck. Overall fantastic
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
Got the Birdie Sanders nachos from the Rockin Vegan Tacos truck and was pleasantly surprised with the vegan cheese and chicken. The tortilla chips didn't end up too soggy which is an accomplishment for any nachos, vegan or otherwise. Very inviting environment near a lot of other cool spots in that part of Austin.
google avatar

Yelp
Their vegan tacos are mind blowing! The food truck park they are located in is super cute and the service is always fast and friendly.

Yelp
Taco Tuesday plans: Sorted. Granted, there are no bad days for tacos, especially from the Vegan Nom. It's no secret that these are some of the best plant-based tacos on the block, but their $2 migas tacos on Tuesdays are an absolute steal. Don't forget that every order comes with free beer upon request, too... It's a budget splurge that won't let you down. They're the epicenter of an entirely vegan food truck park that often supports the local community of artists, independent food entrepreneurs, musicians, crafters, and more with popup markets. There's almost always something fun going on. Bonus points for abundant, stress-free parking and being super dog-friendly.
google avatar

Ian H.

Yelp
The best tacos around! Not just vegan tacos--simply the best tacos. Reasonably priced with delicious food that's always made to order. Super tasty and fresh. It's a great vibe to eat at too, and the community is super welcoming.

Yelp
We came for a special event with a dog costume contest so it was super packed! It took nearly an hour and a half to get our food after ordering but it was to be expected. Thankfully we had plenty of entertainment to keep us busy. They had a wide selection vegan sandwiches/burgers and sides. We ordered the og cheese burger, Nashville hot chicken sandwich, sweet potato fries, and fried pickles. The og burger was good- it was pretty standard. It was nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about either. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich was pretty yummy- I wouldn't call it "Nashville hot" at all but just as a regular (vegan) chicken sandwich it was delightful. The fried pickles were amazing! They came with a vegan ranch that I wasn't particularly fond of; it was pretty bland but the nom sauce was the perfect touch for both the fried pickles and the sweet potato fries.

Yelp
This was our first meal getting to Austin and as vegans, we were so happy to go to The Vegan Nom and try their tacos and nachos! The service wasn't something to write home about but it was a food truck so we didn't interact much. We had four different tacos plus nachos and were super happy! My favorite taco was the fish one!
google avatar

Kat D.

Yelp
The Vegan Nom tacos are AMAZING. I swear the one I got is my favorite taco I have ever had in my entire life. "The 3 Amigos" taco with the added crema and pico was incredible. I am in Austin for 2 more days, will be returning for this specific taco before I leave. I also god the jorge's beef burrito. That was good too, but the taco. Insane.

Lindsay S.

Yelp
Always great food and service! I've had several things and they are all amazing. The staff is super sweet and helpful. Sadly, this last visit did make me cry in my taco because I learned they basically discontinued the jalapeño Mac and cheese. As a person who is vegan and gluten free this stuff was a cup of heaven to me. Fingers crossed it makes it's way back to the menu!!!
google avatar

Mrvegan E.

Yelp
Amazing sauce was delicious big brunch burritos was awesome I really enjoyed the ambience.

Asor A.

Yelp
Wow I got a Short rib breakfast taco (Ranchera luna??) here, and it was seriously amazing! I dunno if this is a new addition to their menu bc I can't find it in their online menu, but it was so delicious! I'm not even vegan. Highly recommend it with both the red and green salsas on top!
google avatar

Victoria O.

Yelp
The Vegan Nom is one of my absolute favorite food trucks because the food is always consistent and they have some of the best vegan grub around! Their truck is situated in a food truck park on the East side that actually also houses their sister food truck, Nom Burgers. You can either call ahead or walk-up in person to order for pick-up, and they have a good number of picnic tables to sit at if you can't wait to get home to dig-in (which chances are you won't be able to)! I love the number of options they have on the menu - from burritos to tacos to mac n cheese. This time around I ordered the KBBQ Nachos which are tortilla chips loaded with black beans, vegan queso, pico de gallo, veggies, Korean BBQ sauce and sesame seeds. The container was PACKED, it could easily feed 2 people. Highly recommend giving them a try!
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
This taco food truck is located in a vegan's paradise--with 4 other vegan-friendly food trucks offering burgers, pizza, milk shakes and more. My sister and I went for dinner on a Friday, and the place had some people but was not too busy. Plenty of picnic tables were available, and we were vibing to the music and gorgeous murals everywhere. We only got one taco each ($5.50 per taco) at the vegan nomz, since we wanted to get a taste of all the food trucks as we were visiting Austin for just a couple days. I had the taco Al pastor and she got the kbbq taco, and wow, the sauces for both were so good! They seemed to be using soy curls which I've had before and had mixed experiences with, but the sauce and toppings gave it such a rich and delicious flavor profile. Would totally go again if I am back in ATX!
google avatar

Shane S.

Yelp
The Vegan Nom is an all vegan taco truck with outdoor dining on picnic tables. They specialize in innovative creative tacos that are easily the best tacos I ever had. I went with the Grias Madre breakfast taco and the Nueva Onda adding kale and tempeh bacon. I went with one corn and one flour taco to mix it up. Both were delicious and hearty enough. Enjoyed the hot sauces they had. Service was friendly. I'm definitely coming back here to try the dinner menu. Of note other food trucks near by feature a vegan veggie burger food truck run by Vegan Nom, another vegan food truck featuring more savory entrees, a vegan milk shake vegan food truck, and a coffee food truck.
google avatar

Cynthia M.

Yelp
OMG these were the BEST vegan tacos I've ever had!! Cute little food truck area set up. The chipotle sauce was AMAZING!! Lots of seating. We got there right when it opened at 9am. It was perfect.
google avatar

Yelp
The vegan nom is our goto for delicious vegan food- everything we've ordered has been perfection.

Yelp
The Vegan Nom is one of MY FAVORITE places to grab some fantastic vegan tacos. Located on the East side, I love the area surrounding the food truck park. My fiancé and I have been coming here for years, and the food never disappoints. The service is always excellent, and you can expect your food to be fresh. I recommend trying the chips and queso; it's one of my favorites off the menu. The Del Rey Fish Taco is another favorite, but I love switching it up and trying various taco combinations. There's plenty of seating and shade for those hot summer days when you want to enjoy your food right after you get it. Also, no issues with parking most of the time, so no worries about that. I highly recommend you give them a visit!

John T.

Yelp
This is a place that I visit every Tuesday on taco Tuesday. I do not know why much money that I spend here that this food truck does not send any kind of coupons to customers coming there. Love the tacos

Lz L.

Yelp
The Vegan Nom is a JOKE. They won't answer their damn phones. (They have several sketchy burner phones, lol.) They claim they're open "late." Absolute BS. Go elsewhere. They don't deserve even the one star I was forced to click on in order to post this review. F*ckers.
google avatar

Tracey Z.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place for a while. The types of tacos are so unique - I have never seen a kbbq taco before - and the fact that it's vegan makes it all the better. The meat is defined not real meat, not really sure I like the substitute though. The kbbq taco was good, not much flavor though. The al pastor taco kind of lacked flavor as well. The tacos were also kind of pricey.

Joey P.

Yelp
Great Vegan food truck spot. Cool and safe location. Had a lot of fun here. Good food options.
google avatar

Branden S.

Yelp
Was in Austin for a couple days is obviously had to eat here both days. Was amazing. Will return next time Austin.
google avatar

Justin A.

Yelp
Vegan Nom is my weekend ritual!!! I'm a creature of habit and always get the same thing, a Three Amigos add potato. SOOOOOOOOO delicious!!!! Best vegan sausage I've ever had, tortillas are incredible , and their salsas are all great! The staff is always so kind (especially Amber, always a pleasure to see her smiling face!) I can't recommend this trailer enough. Good people, good food and Green Cross Dispensary is right down the block if you need help building up a hunger
google avatar

Jocelyne V.

Yelp
Located on east side in a food truck park, they offer an all plant based menu from tacos to burritos. Their queso is all vegan and will satisfy your cravings, the nachos are very filling so bring your appetite! They have a good selection of breakfast tacos and lunch tacos, their salsas and tortillas are homemade and very flavorful. Overall, a solid place for vegan Mexican casual dining!
google avatar

Clay T.

Yelp
I came back after years away from this restaurant and I can say that their food has gotten a lot better since I last went. It's about at the quality as when I first started going there if not better than it was before. Leaving it at a 4 :).
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
The burritos and tacos are good. I will say I have been so disappointed in all the vegan Mexican spots in ATX... it seems like NONE of them have authentic chips and salsa. It's always super disappointing because to me that's the best part of a Mexican meal. Anyway the Korean BBQ burrito was good, interesting LOL. But decent. I've also gotten the nachos with the Buffalo "chicken" and the same in a taco. All decent but nothing to write home about.
google avatar

savannah w.

Yelp
First time coming here and it was so good! Was honestly worried it was real meat considering my meat eater boyfriend LOVED it. The nachos were huge so def recommend sharing if you don't eat much.
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
Holy $hit is this place great. I am not a vegan and I enjoyed this place better than most Mexican restaurants. Their Al pastor taste better than Al pastor. 5 stars highly recommend!!!
google avatar

Matt D.

Yelp
Dude.. So good! Hands down, best breakfast burrito I've ever had. The thing was huge and delicious! The tacos and sandwiches I saw other people eating looked great, too. They have a big courtyard with a lot of seating and some cool murals to top it off.
google avatar

Jessica Z.

Yelp
The vibe was very nice and a great place to hang with friends or have a date night. I got the fish taco and taco al pastor which were both well-flavored and had an unique taste and would have never guessed that they were vegan. We also got the Jorge beef nachos to share and finished it in minutes. There was also a comedy club the night we went and the overall ambience definitely made it an even better experience. Would for sure recommend to give it a try!

Nisa B.

Yelp
I have very low expectations of vegan food in Austin and the first time I tried this truck, I had ordered a vegan breakfast taco and I didn't like it at all, it was under seasoned and bland. But a friend of mine recommended this place again and I decided to give them another shot. So on Saturday, I ordered the vegan brisket taco to go and the girl on the phone told me it would change my life. It sure did, the "meat" was perfectly seasoned and every bite was heaven. Now I can't wait to try the other items on the menu!!!
google avatar

Farrah A.

Yelp
I satiated my morning breakfast tacos craving thanks to The Vegan Nom. We found this food truck thanks to Yelp, and it just so happens to be situated in a food truck park with a variety of other cruelty free / vegan vendors... like a coffee bar, kombucha stand, burger truck ... The Vegan Nom's menu had ALL the the things our bodies needed: breakfast tacos, crunchy lunchtime tacos, 'fish' tacos... even Mexican Coca Cola. Based on recs from the kind fella working the stand, we ordered the Birdie Sanders taco (buffalo 'chicken' flavored), 3 Amigos ('egg' + breakfast 'sausage'), and the Super Fresco (think Taco Bell crunch wrap). They had legit spicy salsa, corn tortillas (skip the flour); all was so good, we ordered two more tacos to explore the menu some more. I've yet to have vegan 'fish' and it tasted just like a fish taco -- this is magic, y'all. Upside is they sent us a coupon for our next visit; and YES, we will go back. Highly rec anyone - vegan or not - try this en fuegs food truck.
google avatar

Judy Z.

Yelp
Awesome tacos in a fun, outdoor space. Great service. Bonus, they gave us free beer! I look forward to trying their other offerings next time I'm in Austin.

Yelp
Where do I begin with this diamond in an unassuming food truck park on E Cesar Chavez. If you've never had vegan food or for some reason have avoided it, this....this will change you. I speak a turned man. Once did not I care for, even at times dismiss, vegan dishes. However, a vegetarian coworker took me here for lunch. A simple 5 minute walk from our common work space and there I was. In front of a gate, with 4 food trucks parked inside. Two black boulder of trucks were parked in the back. A coffee mini-streamliner on my left and opposite it a green foodtruck "guarded" by a German Shepard. I walked through waving at the dog. It did not acknowledge nor care for my presence. I was just some fool about to be enlightened. She's seen it many times. We walked to the back left black boulder. The menu seemed unassuming but full. Burritos, tacos, even burgers. Would not have blinked twice had I not known it was vegan. "Vegan eggs?" I asked, "what are they even made of?" "Not sure. Don't care," my friend replied. He walked up the gray bricks to place his order. To this day I don't know what they're made of but damn it I am addicted.

Yelp
Yummy vegan food with great vibes in a lil vegan food truck park!! They have lots of gluten free options and are very accommodating. I tried the beef nachos and jalapeño mac'n'cheese--both were super good! No gross fake cheese or meat taste! The bbq chicken was not as favored but all in all, things were tasty and well-made. A bit pricey for what it is but glad i came!

Yelp
Got to try out The Vegan Nom yesterday which I was pretty excited about as my friend had said she had tried it before and loved it! This place is a food truck galore and is a cute spot with lights and tables/chairs. It was also located near la barbecue which was across the street. Once we got there we ended up ordering: * queso - This item came with lots of chips which I liked as the chips were also warm. The queso itself was yummy (I think it was cashew based) but I wish they gave a little more for the price ($7). *Birdie Sanders Taco - this taco was pretty yummy if you are into buffalo sauce type of flavor. What I really enjoyed was that the fake meat was well marinated *Del Rey Fish Taco - tbh I am not a fan of fish, esp if it is not real fish but damn - this fish taco was pretty legit. The flavors went really well together *Kbbq Taco - this taco was probably my favorite - everything from the marination to the toppings were amazing and tbh... I would eat more of these any day!! Overall, I really enjoyed the food - and could not even tell it was vegan. However, knocking off a star because they were so late. We probably got our order like 80 minutes after we ordered. They also accidently gave our tacos to someone else so we had to wait longer. All we got was a sorry - which was a bit underwhelming. Understand that they were short staffed - so I think good idea to hire more since this place had lots of customers.
