Visited this place way back in 2022 with some colleagues, it was good ! Fast forward to today , suffice to say - it’s still good ! Tried the ‘modern’ sandwich recommended by another reviewer and it was great ! The vibe is cozy , service was great. Definitely would recommend this diner.

Spending the weekend in NYC and looked for a place to have breakfast near Central Park and to our good fortune found Viand!! Solid reviews and really deserves more than a 4.3 rating..come on folks, hype up your favorite spots… because this place a strong and steady flow of local New Yorkers for breakfast (especially families with young kids). My breakfast sandwich, The Modern, was delicious! I was able to change the ciabatta bread to the brioche bun which was soft and sweet and the tomato bacon jam was out of this world, yummy. I’ll definitely add bacon to this sandwich next time. My partner got the steak and eggs, good sized steak, well seasoned, cooked to the desired temperature and the eggs they use here are huge and hearty! We don’t usually like shredded hash browns ( prefer breakfast potatoes) but their hash browns are pretty good with onions and peppers and again, well seasoned. Atmosphere is very nice, small but not cramped, clean, and the staff are wonderful; friendly and attentive without being overbearing and they seem to work well as a team to serve all customers. Overall this was a really great experience, slight dings for the fact that the coffee was pretty weak (and o don’t like strong coffee so that’s saying something), and the orange juice was a bit tart/bitter. But that aside we enjoyed it so much we ordered a salad and Cuban sandwich to-go for lunch later! Awesome food, great service… stop by!!

Everything I hoped for. We’re over from the UK and I really wanted to find a fantastic American diner and this is it. Awesome food and service in a classic diner environment.

I walk past this diner all the time and finally decided to try it. Cozy diner with cute booths. It was busy and raining when I came in the employees were very accommodating as I opted for their covered outdoor seating and changed my mind preferring indoor seating. The chicken souvlaki was a little messy to eat but delicious. The chicken pesto panini was good but it would’ve liked a tad more chicken. The fries were really good, I would go back just for them and curious about their breakfast items like their dulce de leche French toast and eggs w/ corn-beef hash

Hands-down, some of the best service I’ve had in the city. Our kids were treated like gold. The gluten-free Cuban sandwich was astoundingly good.

I highly recommend this establishment! From the home orange juice to the delicious eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce had just the little extra love that made it different from many others that I have had. Service was kind, quick, and able to give solid recommendations. The restaurant and restrooms were very clean!

Been to all 3 viands. This one on columbus ave is not the best Viand. Viand UES and Viand Broadway are 5 stars. Good tasty diner food. But Viand Columbus is 4 star because service is good. Somehow eggs, sausage, breakfast items have no taste no flavor. It's the same items but not sure why this Viand isn't good. Pancakes are ok though.

THANK YOU VIAND FOR GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND FOR US THIS GALENTINES I love this neighborhood staple and plan many dinners here. They always accommodate my big group and are so courteous when meeting my group's needs. I When we arrived I wanted the tables connected so we could sit together and they did so for us with no problem. Then I ordered the Sicilian salad with grilled chicken. It was huge and delicious. I took half home for a second meal today! I also ordered 2 cosmos which were discounted for happy hour. They were so strong and very well made. My friends got Bellinis which they made Galentine's friendly with heart shaped strawberries. They allowed our large group to pay separately which made everyone's lives easier. They didn't rush us at all. And the absolute cherry on top to an already great experience was the huge dessert plates they brought out for us to celebrate with. We were all floored. Thank you again Viand for going above and beyond yesterday and every day!

Great location, food.....not so much. We came in on a cold Wednesday night for dinner hoping for some good diner food. We came away with mostly uneaten food and some indigestion. We had: - Avocado BLT - too much olive oil and pesto. - Philly Cheesesteak - it was okay, nothing great. - Chicken Souvlaki - chicken was overcooked and loaded with oregano. The dressing for the salad was a very sweet raspberry vinaigrette (?!?!). - French Fries - Delicious!! The service was good and the ambiance is very 2021, COVID 19 dividers - not a deterrent but dated. The French fries aren't reason enough to come back.

Second time here on the weekend for lunch/brunch and had to stop to write a review. The location is perfect! Very close to Central Park & really nice to sit outside and people watch. The menu is huge but everything I've ordered has been really good so the big menu doesn't scare me here. I've gotten the Cuban sandwich, the breakfast burrito, BLT & the chocolate chip pancake & all of them have been really good. My favorite was the Cuban. Service is fast and friendly but not overbearing. My friend and I were in and out in about an hour but didn't feel rushed at all. Perfect place for a casual meal.

My students from the west side rave about this place, so we stopped in for lunch on a school trip to AMNH. Everyone enjoyed a huge plate of food, and the staff masterfully managed orders from the 9 of us. The booths were clean, tables wiped, and I enjoyed a delicious root beer float with a generous scoop of ice cream, as a float should be. Despite being crowded, the post-Covid transparent barriers kept the noise to a minimum. So for a party of 10 or 2, Viand provides ample goodness on all levels.

Had lunch here under a reservation with a group of 9! The restaurant itself felt kinda cramped with how many people were there. Had to ask our waitress for more silverware and cups because there weren't enough. Some food items took awhile to come out, but other things were normal. Food was pretty good!! The chicken was kinda small for the size of the waffle.

Viand tries to fill the space of cozy yet chic diner on the Upper West Side. While the food has some inventive touches on diner classics (and more than ample portions), it doesn't justify the price tag. We stopped in for a late breakfast/lunch on a Saturday and got seated right away: service was efficient for the size of the crowd. The menu spans the usual mix of omelettes, sandwiches, griddled goods, and more: she did an order of creme brulee French toast and I went with a grilled veggie panini. The French toast came out as four big slices, coated in coarse burnt sugar and filled with a custard cream; it was delicious without being cloying though the strawberries on the side tasted like they'd been frozen and chilled. The panini was solid: grilled eggplant + squash + peppers + onions with goat cheese on toasted ciabatta. The vegetables were roasted well without being overwhelmed with char

I love how Viand feels like a upscale diner, but the food is still pretty affordable despite the pretty vibes. Was able to walk in before noon without a seating issue although if you came after noon there would be more of a wait. - Lox Benedict - I thought this was a pretty solid benedict. The lox was half cooked, probably from the heat emitted by the egg, which made it an interesting texture to eat. I really appreciate the hash browns as they are slightly charred and were crispy at the same time. - Chicken Souvlaki - I was not the biggest fan of the chicken as there were some more tendon-y parts of the chicken. I would much rather get chicken schwarama from the streets. The fries were yummy though, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. - Huevos Rancheros - I was not the biggest fan of this, in a way I felt like this wasn't super worth my money as there were not a lot of ingredients on the dish. But maybe that's as expected from the description of the dish on the menu. Overall, okay brunch place. I think next time if I come I'll just get the benedicts, although I will have to say that both their hash browns and fries were excellent.

Size matters. Portions here are huge. Nice diner set up with hard working super friendly servers and staff. Easy to go here with kids, and they have lollipop treats. We arrived around 11:30 and got a table in 5 minutes, 4 adults and 3 kids. Within 10 minutes, the line was out the door. Great kids' menu; ours shared grilled cheese, big fluffy French toast, and nice pasta in butter. I failed to get a photo of Croque Monsieur special with tomato salad. Their egg options are good. Gyro and Cuban sandwich platters are huge and so flavorful, as is triple decker club. Fast paced, and they turn tables fast as they can. Clean and lively setting. Over the last few years, I've been here a number of times. Love it. Sandwiches now all over $20, yet sandwiches and platters are all humongous. Tasty. And size matters!

The food was ok - classic diner food and giant portions. The prices were at least twice what they should have been. Water was flowing plentifully and we were not rushed, for that I thank the staff!

I love a place with outdoor seating. I've been walking by this place for the past two years and finally decided to give them a try. The food was really good and the vibes were great. My boyfriend said the eggs Benedict was the best he ever had. It was absolutely delicious. My omelette was good but not the best I ever had. What I really loved was the homemade blackberry jam they served my toast with.

I don't think I have to much to say about this place; It got my attention because how busy it looked but afterwards I got really disappointed or maybe I just picked wrong with my order. I went with a group of 6 friends and each of us got different things. To be honest I think I was the only one that didn't like what I got. I ordered the huevos rancheros and I'll give them a 3/10: no flavor, nothing special + the eggs where on top of a tostada when they are supposed to be on a fried tortilla. The rest of my friends said their meals where pretty decent tho. Positive things: They have a pretty affordable brunch menu with coffee, juice or alcohol drink included. They allowed me to bring coffee from another shop They brought the food really quick Negative things: Don't get the huevos rancheros They brought the bill before we asked for it and I HATE when restaurants do that. We just feel like they were kicking us out ??

Checked this spot out for brunch after hitting the gym on a rainy Saturday afternoon and it was packed! We were first on the list but ended up waiting about 30 mins for a table for two. The food was good just not sure I would wait that long again. It's located in the UWS so lots of families with carriages and local folks sitting for long periods of time like it's a sitcom diner. Grab your friends and go home, Chatty Patty! You're taking away from the business sitting at a table for hours and only ordering a soup. Ordered pancakes to share, huevos rancheros and what looked like a breakfast Crunchwrap supreme. He found it tasty just a little dry. Thought maybe some avocado or a sauce would've made it better. I've been on a pancake crave recently and these were pretty good! If you're a pancake aficionado, I would suggest it. Service was fairly quick and they kept the coffee flowing. Good option if you're in the area.

I'm stuck in NYC for the holiday so I was looking for an easy turkey dinner to order in. Viand did not disappoint. Generous portions of everything, enough for leftovers tomorrow and beyond. And you can get all dark or all white meat or mixed. I also ordered the potato leek soup on a lark. Wow. Might be the best I've ever had. Remember to ask for the croutons on the side if you order it. They came all mushy and soaked with soup but it didn't matter. The soup is THAT good. Rich, buttery yet you can still taste the potatoes. Well done!!

Viand is your standard NYC diner with elevated prices. Great to meet here for breakfast or lunch, service is attentive and food is diner-like so lots of options, all of which are fine.

This spot is perfect for families who want as nice as possible of a night out. There's a decent kid menu, a nice alcohol menu, and lots of other food menus. Our waitress knew that we'd want to order kid food right away, which was right on, and she also kept asking if we wanted another drink (but not in a pushy way). The outdoor seating is a nice option, and there's some plant coverage if you don't want to feel like you're right on the street. I wish the kid mac and cheese didn't come out so hot. Yes, it was tasty, but maybe there's another way to make it for the kids. French fries were perfect. I didn't think the hot chicken sandwich special was so great; good idea, but the pieces didn't really mesh well together, and it was very hard to eat. I'll definitely be back! Thanks for one of the best nights out with my family (young kids) in a while.

Great skirt steak. Great price and great service. Ambiance is not upscale but very pleasant.

Stopped by tonight during what was definitely a busy time before the parade so our expectations were low. The owner//management should be proud of his waitstaff for their hustle. Beyond that, the manager on duty was shockingly terrible. While his staff was struggling to get to tables in a timely manner (we waited 20+ minutes before I had to flag someone down to wait on our table), he spent 5+ minutes at a time waiting on one regulars table while completely ignoring anyone else in the restaurant including his staff who seemed annoyed and frustrated. The food was mediocre at best, so unfortunately there was literally no saving grace. Def do not recommend.

Tried some of their other menu items: - Another Avocado Toast: Not terrible, but I wouldn't order this again. Although it comes with a generous amount of mashed avocado, it was pretty plain. There wasn't any seasoning in the avocado. All the flavor came from the pickled red onions and cherry tomatoes. It's more filling than avocado toasts I've gotten from other places because they're generous with the portions (I like that it comes with two eggs without an extra charge), but still wouldn't reorder. - Chocolate Chip Pancakes (jumbo): Delicious! Their pancakes are really filling because they're thick and fluffy. Very consistently made too from what I've seen. I always enjoy their pancakes (jumbo or silver dollars version). Their batter is like the perfect pancake batter. - Challah French Toast: Like their jumbo pancakes, the french toast was also soft, thick, and fluffy. I like that the french toast is just french toast -- it's not too sweet because they don't douse it in syrup or sweetener for you, it's not too eggy, and it's not too soggy (the edges are a bit toasted). The nutella and dulce de leche french toasts I think would've been too sweet, but this regular French Toast is a great textbook, no frills french toast. Service is great as always. I've come during both busier and quieter hours (weekend and weekday brunch), and service has always been amiable and quick. Still my favorite go-to brunch spot in the area because of the consistent food and service!

Came here for the happy hour and something to eat. The happy hour has a good selection of drinks and some quick bites. The wings were ok, but everything else I ate was great and satisfying.

Disappointing diner. Ordered gluten free pancakes - they were terrible. They were soggy inside and had a strange metallic flavor. Perhaps the baking powder wasn't mixed in? GF pancakes have to be thin to be fully cooked - these were the diner hubcap sized one, so never going to happen. The "carmelized bananas" dish was chopped banana swimming in a super sweet corn syrup sauce. Yuck. The bacon was okay. The corned beef hash was homemade and the fried egg on top was perfectly cooked. But my enthusiasim dropped when I contended with all the gristle, they used the end pieces of the corned beef. Finally, when we needed service we had to go inside to get a waitress. The service for the outdoor diners was spotty.

Came here for lunch on a Sunday and got seated right away. The food selection is your basic American brunch & lunch and the prices are around $20-30 per entree. I got the pesto chicken sandwich and while the portion size was huge, the sandwich was very bleh. The breading was super super greasy and the chicken was reallllly dry. I know it's one of their most popular dishes, but I'm not sure why? It didn't taste great to me and the seasoning wasn't good either. It was also really hard to eat and pick up bc the bread was soo greasy, it was falling apart when I tried eating it. It came with a side of fries tho which were decent/average. My friends got the huevos rancheros which comes with no meat, eggs & hash, and tuna salad sandwich. Again, nothing we ate was anything to rave about and what you would expect it to be. I think I would only recommend coming to this place if you happen to be in the area and had nothing else to eat but I would never recommend going out of your way or coming here if you have other options.

Filled all expectations, which were limited. Food was a hair above mid, realistically 3/5. Canned hash (best part of the meal), poor potatoes, bland eggs. Basically an overpriced diner with a French cafe half attempted aesthetic to justify it, which falls very flat. 3/5 vibes. Service met expectations, folks were kind, conscientious, attentive, 5/5. $45ish for 2, basic brunch entrées and coffee. Giving a 3/5 because I was factually satisfied.

A bit on the pricey side for what they are offering (i.e. $21 for tuna melt) but really solid meal, enjoyable diner-feel, and quick service. Would definitely come back.

Always a pleasure to eat in this neighborhood institution. The food is dependably good with generous portions guaranteeing leftovers to bring home. The waitstaff are pleasant, professional and clearly happy to see repeat customers. Highly recommend.

*Tourist Opinion* Im here on vacation from San Francisco with my best friend. We both had overnight flights and were running on about 2 hours of sleep combined. She looks at me says lets find somewhere to eat after landing and we decide on pancakes. Thanks to yelp we found this place. The vibe was nice, very laid back and it was cute to see the regulars come in and order their coffees. I loved the bit of colored tiles on the floor and the set up of the booths just made sense for the inside. We came at about 9:30 am so not sure how their outside seating works! On to the food, I ordered a Plain Bagel with Cream Cheese, Lemonade and a Berry Bowl. My friend got the Dulce de Leche French Toast and orange juice. My review: THE LEMONADE WAS THE BEST LEMONADE IVE HAD IN MY WHOLE LIFE (house made). I have waited 20 years to find the perfect lemonade and Viand has it. I love a sour drink it was just perfect. I appreciated that the bagel came with the cream cheese on the side, it allows u to control how much or little. The berry sauce was also the perfect amount of sweet to add on top. The berry bowl was good, typical berries not much to say here. But the bowl they served them in was a very nice blue cracked glaze design and I enjoyed that. SERIOUSLY GET THE LEMONADE PLEASE. Besties Review: It was really good and amazing portion size. The Nutella tasted house made which was a great addition. Orange Juice was pretty good as well (fresh squeezed tasting). The service was great. They are attentive and check in with you in a way that feels purposeful, like they really want to. Sweet people. Seeing the way they interacted with their regulars was sign enough of an awesome establishment. Overall, we had a good experience here. I will be back for another lemonade.

I want to root for a little place like Viand. But the food is so bad. Went in for a pretty basic breakfast, and it was all really terrible--even the toast was stale. Super small portions, but I didn't finish anything, anyway.

The gluten free pancakes are good, especially with the syrup. Our server kept forgetting sides and food items. I get it was busy, but it is a big brunch spot. They may have to hire more staff.

Very disappointing experience from the moment we put our names in (walk-in's only, FYI) to the moment we were eating. Put our names in to the hostess outside - it appeared that she calls your name just once and crosses it off the list.. even though we were standing right there just a few feet away near the outdoor dining tent.. good thing we asked if our names had been called and then luckily we got seated. I got chocolate chip pancakes and they were clearly burnt / overcooked, within each of the 3 pancakes in the stack. As comparison, another guest at another table right next to us had her plate of pancakes not overly overdone. I ask the waitress nicely - Can I please get a different order of the chocolate chip pancakes as these are very overdone/overcooked? Is that okay to get a new order? ... She rolls her eyes at me, goes IF THAT'S WHAT YOU WANT, and just takes away my plate. Unwelcoming and unfriendly... I was very disappointed. I will not return here. I wish they were nicer and more accommodating as I had a valid reason for it and even saw they didn't serve the pancakes that way to every person..

Casual diner, great for brunch or breakfast. The menu is extensive, so you'll be able to find something for everyone. Portions are also generous. Service is efficient.

EXCELLENT BREAKFAST! I enjoyed being back in NYC and having a delightful breakfast at Viand. I had the traditional eggs benedict It came with hash browns. Was very good. They also have a full bar, so, I had a bloody mary. We sat outdoors.

Food is delicious, comes out relatively fast, and ingredients are high quality. Atmosphere is very cozy, old fashioned diner aesthetic. Menu is super long, so there's always something for even the most picky or limited eaters. Only downside is the price... but it's one block from Central Park, so it's what you'd expect. Service is very friendly and attentive, love coming here.

Had the chicken souvlaki and it was amazing! Also try the Feta! Olga was so fun and sweet to us!

This may have been the worst breakfast I have ever had. I think it's probably a good place for families, since they have a large menu with many options - but definitely not a good place for a couple trying to get some decent breakfast. We chose to eat outside in the covered area, so I am unable to comment on the interior of the restaurant. Our waitress was aloof and we continued to see her behind the outdoor enclosure past the restaurant on her phone. It took a while to order and to pay our check. We decided to choose the berry fruit cup and one the quesadillas. The berry fruit cup was mostly melon and pineapple which tasted like it had been sitting out for days and not the least bit fresh. The quesadilla was 98% cheese and just fell apart. It was a hard meal to eat and I don't plan to return again.

*2.5/5 I'm sad to say this but this was the lamest shakshuka I've ever had, it just tasted like eggs in a pool of canned tomato sauce. Also my friend's Bloody Mary was the worst Bloody Mary I've ever had, it was so bitter and just not it. If I said Bloody Mary in the mirror three times and the Bloody Mirror from Viand appeared, I would be rather sad

Viand Upper West Side is a diner I go to mainly when I visit my friends that live on the West Side. I sometimes stop in if I'm hanging out alone. It's a typical breakfast for me. Nothing to write home about. When I lived on West 74th Street I'd stop in this diner for breakfast more frequently. Since I still have friends that live nearby I sometimes find myself having a meal now and then. I wouldn't say it's in my top choice of diners in the neighborhood. It is just convenient at times. Service has always been no frills. The friendliness of the employees appears to be whatever mood they're in that day. Sometimes I don't get that warm home style welcome. If you're hungry and need to eat this is as good as any place else in this neighborhood for the price.

Solid spot to dine at during Covid times with some nice tented outside seating on the street, and overhead lamps helping keep us warm. Plexiglass partitions, and healthy ventilation. They do a nice job of it here. As a diner goes this Viand is a step above most. Think hearty portions of better than most diner offerings you have experienced. My friend had the Short Rib Gnocchi which she really enjoyed, but was full after eating half and took the rest home for dinner the next day and said it was still delicious. I was more than happy to see an Impossible Burger on the menu which I got with cheese, caramelized onions, and sweet potato fries. Good choice if you're not into eating meats and it tastes almost the same. Tasty meal. Service was terrific, with more than enough water and coffee refills. They never rushed us to leave and kelp filling our cups over spirited conversation. I think we pretty much closed the place. They also let customers use the bathrooms which was a must as there was no way I was holding it in after all that cawfee tawk!

A good spot for outdoor dining. Plenty of seating. There are overhead heaters (ours could have been hotter), plexiglass partitions between tables, and the sidewalk side completely open for good cross ventilation. I had the Short Rib Gnocchi. I love short rib in anything. Gnocchi is heavy so this is seriously filling. I only made it thru half. It was great the next day. Having the Impossible burger and chili on the menu makes this a good hearty choice for anyone staying away from animal protein. The service was quick and friendly. We were able to get multiple coffee refills and chat to our heart's content. And there're restrooms for customers. This is a solid spot for COVID dining.

First impression: outdoor seating reminds me my trips to Europe and dining al fresco. Love the shade from the awnings and the plant filled barriers that separate the eating area/dining booths from the rest of the sidewalk. Plenty of people cleaning and lots of sanitizer available. Owner and waiters are all super attentive and remember me despite the mask (it could be my pinkish metallic rose colored hair Food: one of my favorite brunch spots starting around the pandemic reopening in NYC. Their spiked lemonades (my favorite is the strawberry lemonade with gin or vodka). I've tried about half of everything on the menu: Classic Benedict + Lox Benedict (delicious, get Hollandaise on the side), Eggs in Purgatory-Shashuka (perfectly seasoned and I always ask for extra pita), The Modern Egg Sandwich (I always replace the ciabatta with brioche or a croissant). Also, not sure what preserves they use with the bread/biscuits but it's ammmmazzzing!

This experience genuinely confused me. I came here with my dining partner because I reeeeeaaallllyyy wanted pancakes and I'd read the avians had good ones. The staff was fairly nice and accommodating. We were seated right away and given time to pick what we wanted. I originally asked for banana and chocolate chip pancakes. A couple minutes later I was told they had no bananas so I asked for chocolate chip and marshmallow pancakes. My dining partner asked for chocolate chip pancakes. We also ordered the chicken tender appetizer. Instead of chocolate chip and marshmallow pancakes, I received chocolate chip and *graham cracker* pancakes. So strange. They were alright. A bit dry because of the lack of marshmallow Instead of chocolate chip pancakes, my dining partner got chocolate chip and walnut pancakes. Even more strange. The chicken tenders were groundbreaking, though. Truly the perfect amount of crunch and tenderness. The honey mustard was fantastic and overall the highlight of the meal. Not sure if I'd return for the service, but I'd return for the tenders.

You're hamburgers are delicious so are your French fries and mozzarella sticks are delicious to you are also very speedy

A great diner located in the UWS on Columbus and 85th. We went there for dinner around 6 pm on a Friday. It was pretty quiet at that hour. More people started to flow in as time went on. We were able to order a meal quickly for our son once we sat down. We then got our drinks order in and then finally the food. The portions here at Viand are very large. Prices are a bit on the higher side for a diner but it makes sense once you see how much food you get. The service was great and everything was delicious. I meant to take picture of the food but we were so hungry when it arrived that we just immediately dug in. We ordered a cheese burger and fries, a pesto chicken panini, a Philly cheesesteak and some kids meals. We were surprised to see we received some drink specials on the tap beer we ordered because we didn't see anything advertised anywhere. Will be back here again!

Perfect brunch spot. Service was great and kept our coffee full, which is all I ask for when I'm eating brunch outside. The corned beef hash is highly recommended. The sandwich was okay, I didn't really care for the bread. We enjoyed our breakfast here and would recommend it.

I got the roasted beet salad which seemed to have very fresh ingredients and good flavor but our service was terrible. The waitress took our order then we never saw her again. We had finished with our food for at least 10 minutes and I had to ask someone inside for the bill, they weren't busy either.

Diner with nice outdoor seating. The food was just okay. Not amazing not bad. I wasn't crazy about thé hollandais sauce, it didn't taste like it was made on site so it was probably premade. Not the greatest diner and there are so many fantastic ones in the city.

Classic diner on the UWS. Good food and generous portions, but overpriced for what it is. Was expecting a bit more of an elevated and/or unique breakfast... was tasty but not extraordinary or different from any of the other UWS diners for that matter. Probably paying for the location and ambiance but I really didn't get the hype with VIAND.

Huge portions, very flavorful. Recommend both menu items, I believe the owner came by so the staff was very attentive. Would go here again!

Tastes really good with huge quantity! I will definitely recommend this place for brunch.
