9 Best Hotels for Afternoon Tea Worldwide

"Traditional afternoon tea is served up at the Victoria Falls Hotel in Zimbabwe on an outdoor terrace with stunning views of the Victoria Falls Bridge — if the water is high enough, you might even spot some of the water splashing up in the distance. Tea on Stanley's Terrace comes with all of the traditional accoutrement, as guests are transported back in time thanks to the elegant, historic location. Built by the British in 1904, this sprawling Edwardian hotel features gorgeous manicured lawns and gardens, nearby the Zambezi River as it flows over the falls. One of the oldest hotels in Africa, Victoria Falls Hotel is open to anyone who wants to take their afternoon tea with a view from the veranda. Tea is served 3 – 6 p.m. daily." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Alexandra Fuller Birthright Travel to Zimbabwe Africa

"The Victoria Falls Hotel is described as the posh place with the famous doorman, buttons all over his uniform. It's arguably Zimbabwe's most celebrated hotel. The author discusses its significance in her life, mentioning it as a potential place of her conception, reflecting on its colonial-style guest rooms, high ceilings, crisp linens, and claw-foot tub. She also describes the jacaranda trees, canna lilies, and emerald lawns that gleamed from the hotel's inner courtyard." - Travel + Leisure Editors

The Victoria Falls Hotel

"Opened in 1994, this property a couple of miles from the Victoria Falls Rain Forest is like a multi-level, open-plan tree house. The focal point of the hotel—which is surrounded by lilies, Zimbabwe creepers, and acacia, mopani, teak, and baobab trees—is a water hole that attracts kudu, impalas, elephants, and white-backed vultures year-round. "The wildlife are a sight to behold." All rooms are done in bright-colored local fabrics and have private balconies overlooking the unfenced Zambezi National Park. MaKuwa-Kuwa restaurant faces a water hole, while The Boma serves local and international fare accompanied by traditional dancing and drumming. Editor's Pick: Gold List 2018"

Victoria Falls Hotel | Best places to stay in Victoria Falls Town

"The ‘grand old lady’ of Victoria Falls retains a loveable colonial charm, combined with a glorious location – the best on the Zimbabwean side – just a few minutes’ walk from the Falls. The terrace and expansive gardens have picture-perfect views of the iconic Batoka Gorge bridge, and on blistering summer days you’ll be glad of the large hotel pool. A range of bars and restaurants mean you’ll be happily fed and water without leaving – don’t miss the High Tea on Stanley’s Terrace – a classic slice of colonial cuisine, with spectacular views of the spray from the Falls. This is a wonderful hotel - elegant, luxurious and with an amazing history. Everything about it is exceptional - the buildings, the staff, the attention to every little detail, the position and of course the views. ||This was for a special trip - we had 4 wonderful nights and were treated like royalty - the staff went out of their way to help, advise and suggest - particular mentions to Kingsley and his team (Vusa and Temba), Webster and his team, and Veronica at Jungle Junction - but the whole staff were amazing.||Our room was luxurious and very comfortable, the food was delicious and we felt very relaxed.||This was a wonderful start to our holiday and we fully recommend this amazing place.

Arriving at the Victoria Falls Hotel is like stepping back in history. You will receive a very friendly welcome from the guys at the front doors, only to be continued when checking in. The communal areas are lovely calming. The various dining areas are very nice and food excellent. The entry level room which we stayed in wasn't outstanding, but comfortable. The hotel is in a very good location for visiting the Victoria Falls.

The hotel itself was clean and well maintained. With regards to food, we only ate breakfast, which was splendid. The grounds are extensive although the advertised private walkway to The Falls have been closed since Covid. Staff were friendly and helpful but let down by one receptionist who, in the middle of helping me with obtaining a boarding pass, completely ignored me once a couple arrived to check in. || to the hotel. This showed lack of training and an amateurish approach to customer care. Overall, although we enjoyed our stay at TVFH, it's standards, I felt, fall short of 5*.

It is a beautiful colonial building built by the British in 1904. It was originally designed as accommodation for railway workers, and today it is the most expensive hotel in the city. Beautiful interiors, gardens overlooking the bridge, Victorian style... It is a great place, which is nice to visit for a coffee or a drink when you are in Victoria Falls to feel a little of the atmosphere from 100 years ago.

A great colonial hotel, on a vast piece of land offering views of Victoria falls mist from its outdoor restaurant. Located close to the falls and a ten minute walk from the small city centre where a variety of restaurants, bars and souvenir shops can be found. The hotel itself has a number of restaurants and bars, a massage service and a hairdressing saloon as well as a nice swimming pool and area surrounding it. We stayed in a signature wing room so we had a separate area for personalised check in, access to a lounge for drinks during our stay, complimentary massage and a bottle of wine. Our room was very spacious, well appointed, with a great bathroom and a large balcony. All staff were excellent but we would like to single out Patrick and Wilbur who kept the breakfast buffet open beyond its normal times when we got delayed during a morning walking safari. That's service well and beyond what could be expected. Thank you.

The best place to stay if you visit The Victoria Falls. Beautifully decorated in the Victorian style, but providing the modern luxuries all at the same time. Clean, spacious, stylish, even a bit nostalgic. Warm service from the staff was fabulous, + the high tea, dinners outside with amazing folk shows, or Livingstone silver service dinners... Everything has left the lasting impression of comfort, class, and ambience. The pool is wonderful. There is so much to explore just within the hotel itself. A beautiful place. We stayed 5 nights and hence had a chance to fully appreciate it. And it's only a short walk away from the Vic Falls themselves.... 🙏💙💎

First things first: This Victoria style perfectly located historical building itself is such a gem and no doubt it’s a very beautiful hotel BUT; As a hotelier, frequent traveler and a hospitality professional with certain level of experience and expectations, i wouldn’t call this hotel a “Luxury Hotel” as hotel claims itself. The definition of the luxury is such an ambitious word in hospitality business and this brings so much responsibilities indeed. Eventually, the term of luxury must be supported by the highest levels of devotion. The rooms were nice but the maintenance level was poor. The internet speed and the connection quality was low within the 2025 standards. Terrace restaurant was lovely with some of the fantastic views you can have in your life and food was tasty. The Jungle Junction restaurant was ok but it the open buffet dinner could have better with options and food tastes wise. The Livingstone was such disappointment, especially for which claimed itself as a “fine dining with a dress code” restaurant! The food taste and the level of devotion to the details didn’t match with its atmosphere. They even didn’t serve a bread although there was a butter on the table, in which i had to remind them! The suit jacket which i gave for the cleaning was brought back to me “without plastic or any protection” on it and it was on the Bell Desk trolley handle with some dirt and dust, which was totally unacceptable with this level of hospitality standards. If this hotel was in recently opened, i would still give them a credit for this level of shortages. But if you’re operating this hotel in a century long period and claim yourself as a luxury hotel in the business with this level of accommodation prices per night, i would criticize every single point that matters to me. Definition of a luxury should be supported by the actions and the attention to the details in hospitality with some extraordinary devotion levels. Or your title will be nonsense by any means.

We had High Tea at this hotel. The setting was amazing with stunning views of the canyon, bridge and the mist from Victoria Falls. It was disappointing our table wasn't ready as we booked ahead. The selection of savoury and cakes was great. I do feel champagne could have been included with the Tea. The hotel holds so much history and is stunning. A must do when visiting Victoria Falls.
