9 Best Hotels for Afternoon Tea Worldwide

"Traditional afternoon tea is served up at the Victoria Falls Hotel in Zimbabwe on an outdoor terrace with stunning views of the Victoria Falls Bridge — if the water is high enough, you might even spot some of the water splashing up in the distance. Tea on Stanley's Terrace comes with all of the traditional accoutrement, as guests are transported back in time thanks to the elegant, historic location. Built by the British in 1904, this sprawling Edwardian hotel features gorgeous manicured lawns and gardens, nearby the Zambezi River as it flows over the falls. One of the oldest hotels in Africa, Victoria Falls Hotel is open to anyone who wants to take their afternoon tea with a view from the veranda. Tea is served 3 – 6 p.m. daily." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Alexandra Fuller Birthright Travel to Zimbabwe Africa

"The Victoria Falls Hotel is described as the posh place with the famous doorman, buttons all over his uniform. It's arguably Zimbabwe's most celebrated hotel. The author discusses its significance in her life, mentioning it as a potential place of her conception, reflecting on its colonial-style guest rooms, high ceilings, crisp linens, and claw-foot tub. She also describes the jacaranda trees, canna lilies, and emerald lawns that gleamed from the hotel's inner courtyard." - Travel + Leisure Editors

The Victoria Falls Hotel

"Opened in 1994, this property a couple of miles from the Victoria Falls Rain Forest is like a multi-level, open-plan tree house. The focal point of the hotel—which is surrounded by lilies, Zimbabwe creepers, and acacia, mopani, teak, and baobab trees—is a water hole that attracts kudu, impalas, elephants, and white-backed vultures year-round. "The wildlife are a sight to behold." All rooms are done in bright-colored local fabrics and have private balconies overlooking the unfenced Zambezi National Park. MaKuwa-Kuwa restaurant faces a water hole, while The Boma serves local and international fare accompanied by traditional dancing and drumming. Editor's Pick: Gold List 2018"

We travelled as a group of 10 friends from Melbourne Australia. This is grand old hotel that is very well maintained and right near the falls. The accomodation the the "Stables" was excellent and good value. Good food and cheap beer!! Lovely pool. For my wife and I it was our second visit and we would love to come back again!!

Newly renovated, well situated and perfectly mannered does this old lady of class come along. A hotel so classy, one hardly finds these days anymore. The staff is incredible. Customer service was through the roof. The executive lounge and rooms, including their service and staff have simply wowed us. Food options are great and of highest quality. You can easily take a walk to Viktoria Falls all by yourself. No need for a guide. Go early in the evening or late in the afternoon for the ultimate experience. Breakfast is served in a beautiful serene outside space with many dietary options. Garden view is recommended, for its stunning to look at the bridge connection Zimbabwe and Zambia. Thank you to the entire team, for making this an incredible calming experience. PS: When we booked the Zambezi River Cruise and weren't too lucky with the food (I don't want to go into detail, for it might have been a one-time mishap and the overall experience was quite nice), the hotel instantaneously took care of it, without us even asking for any reimbursement.

TIA, this is Africa. We take everything in stride when traveling. Hotel is a historic facility that house the Engineers building the Cape Town to Cairo train route. ||Three restaurants, two outdoors and one indoor. Indoor is fine dining requiring a jacket. ||Warning if handicapped there are lots of stairs with zero provision for walkers or chairs. ||Internet was non functional in the rooms. Only worked in the main hotel lounge. ||Food was decent. The Jungle lounge was a good distance from the main hotel and was difficult to navigate in the dark.

This iconic landmark and hotel offered an amazing location and great accommodations and decent culinary options. I did get to see the renovated, updated rooms of which mine was not and the rooms of my group needed repair, but overall it was comfortable. The staff was mainly helpful and attentive, especially the bartender, but the rest was inconsistent, especially the front of the house. My spa experience was expensive for the region and lacking.

Luxurious hotel from the outside and terrible inside! This hotel is not worth the money. The rooms are old and worn out to the limit. Fine dining a la cart was not available for hotel guests without a reservation, this is completely unacceptable for a five star hotel. Cocktails by the pool were disgustingly prepared. I recommend considering newer hotels on the Zambian side.

From the breathtaking views and gardens to the early 20th century luxury of the inside of the hotel, this is a hotel I would love to visit again. Besides the beauty and well-maintained hotel, the staff are exceptional, friendly and nothing is too much trouble for the guests.

You can’t beat the location of this historic hotel, close to the Falls and with beautiful gardens overlooking the Victoria Falls Bridge connecting Zimbabwe and Zambia. The warthogs are a plenty, watching them play in the gardens is a true delight! Breakfast is ample and the chefs are friendly. We had dinner one night which was ok but could have been much better. It had been rather decimated by tour groups. We stayed in one of the newly decorated rooms and this was very comfortable for a 4 night stay. The security guards and porters were fantastic - a true credit to the hotel. Overall it’s a good hotel but it does get very crowded with tourists just popping in for the view, rather than having drinks, lunch etc. It would be better if their access could be restricted so it’s less tourist groupy.

The hotel is great, love the rooms and location, the service was okay but the food was appalling. The buffet did have great choices but when I asked a lady to make me some pasta she not only didn’t say anything to me but walked away with the food! I was standing there for 5 minutes waiting and wondering why she walked off. When she returned she didn’t ask what sauce and just dumped bolognaise into the pasta bowl. Since I’m 14 I didn’t know that the meat being cold was a bad sign but the fact the chef didn’t check makes it worse. Ended up getting food poisoning and missed 2 days worth of safari’s. Hope they do something about it.
