Where To Eat Before A Show In LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Chicago has The Second City, but Los Angeles has The Groundlings. And if you’re in the mood for the best sketch comedy in LA, the 40-year-old theater on Melrose is your place. The neighborhood has more pre-show dinner spots than it knows what to do with, but our move is always Village Idiot. The restaurant/bar a few blocks down has a good crowd, a fantastic beer list, and a solid menu that won’t make you slip into a food coma." - amy clark, brant cox

The West Hollywood After-Work Drinks Guide - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"It’s not even Wednesday and you’re already having escape fantasies at your desk. Hold tight on that one-way plane ticket for now because your college buddy from New York is in town and he wants to drink. Village Idiot is the kind of bar you don’t see often in LA - trendy but unpretentious, and the right kind of rowdy. They have one of the best beer menus in Weho, and an English pub-style menu that’s way better than it needs to be. Aren’t you glad you didn’t drive to LAX?" - brant cox

The West Hollywood Happy Hour Guide - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

Google
It's kind of a dive hole in the wall type of place. You go up to a window and place your order. You have to go to the bar and get your drink. You get your own paper plates and plastic utensils sit and wait for your name to be called. Once your name is called that's when the magic happens. The pizza is just out of the park. I'm almost at a loss of words on how great it was. They had unique pre-created pizzas or design your own. The toppings were very fresh. Wish they didn't charge more for carryout. I will definitely be coming back.

Google
Hands down the best pizza I’ve had in a long time outside of Chicago and NYC. Their thin crust is done perfectly- crispy, cracker thin, and they never skimp on toppings. Having lived in Pittsburgh before moving to the Toledo area, we’ve been blown away by the food scene here, and this place is a standout. Live music adds to the great vibes, making it an all around fantastic spot. Highly recommend!

Google
They have some really good pizzas.... this time, I got just cheese! It definitely hit the spot! Also, I love the building it's in! Really great atmosphere! But no table service! You order your food at the window, which did come out pretty fast, but you have to get all drinks at the bar... even water! Maybe a water location would be a good idea! Just put out cups and a water dispenser. Would be a great idea! I had to wait in line a couple of times to get refills! And we went on a Wednesday at 430pm. Can see this be harder when they get really busy! But overall great food and great vibes!

MJ M.

Google
Cool vibe music food very small place limited seating. Ive ate here in the past had Pizza 🍕 was great. This time not great but good. Still like the vibe here.

Amanda J.

Google
The pizza was so crispy & cheesey... You have to try the sausage AND their homemade meatballs! Super cool vibe & live music 7 days a week!

Doc H.

Google
Pizza was Fantastic, plenty of quality toppings, thin crust, crispy, cooked to perfection. The sausage was great tasting and not frozen balls or crumbles, it was more like spoonfuls of sausage. Great atmosphere. Cheap beers, free music. First time here from out of town, definitely going back.

Mark B.

Google
Toledo work trip. - Fun atmosphere, music was cranked and rocking❣️🤘The pizza was closer to a Chicago tavern style. Not cracker, but thin and crispy. For me, that’s🔥 Of course, the Bell’s Oberon was top-notch as expected, although it could have been colder or served with a frosted mug. Next time, I’ll be back. It’s worth searching for parking. ❣️✌🏻🙏🏼💪

Google
Love this place. Great atmosphere, awesome pizza, and drinks. The pizza was so good I almost forgot to take a photo of them. We tried the Meat pizza, Hawaiian, and pesto with chicken and garlic. They were all amazing!

Yelp
Went for food. Pizza was amazing great flavors and had plenty of toppings. Ordered 2 pies both were excellent and serive time was reasonable. The bar had a nice ambiance. Everyone was friendly. Only went for late lunch but would definitely return again if in the area. If you want a good pizza prices were worth the money all day.

Yelp
I saw a post about this place and since I was up that way or so I thought, I really wanted to give it a try. Turns out it was 40 min further away than I thought, but oh well. The neighborhood was really cool, wish I had time to explore. I picked up at 11:45am and when I went in, the place was already jammin'! Crazy since it was so early in the day! Clearly a neighborhood fav! They do thin crust, but definitely do not skimp on the toppings! Ordered the bbq chicken and a build your own with spinach, mushrooms, 1/2 pepperoni & 1/2 sausage. I didn't care for the cheese on the bbq chick (very strong taste & smell), I'd switch that next time & the sausage is spicy if you like spicy! ;) Glad I tried it, didn't love it and not a location I'll be back to anytime soon to give it another try.

Yelp
It's been quite a while since I wrote a review for here. It's still a divey local place in downtown Maumee. The bathrooms are down in the basement so just an FYI for those that might have mobility issues. You order drinks at the bar and then there's a separate counter where you order the pizza. Pizza only. They may have some breadsticks or something every now and again but that's the extent of the food here. The pizza is a thin crust version with toppings big as mountains. If you're not a big topping person then I would suggest just getting a pepperoni pizza which is what I order most of the time. Some of the staff is friendly and others are snarkey which makes them lose a star for me because as you see I come here a lot. Most of the staff know me. They do require you to open a tab or pay as you go which makes sense. Folks either love the pizza or hate it. I'm kind of the in-between person I like the basic pepperoni pizza fine but I don't particularly care for whole mushrooms and sausage that's as big as my hand. The drink prices are reasonable and they do have a rotating craft beer selection of probably six to eight taps which brings me back. Live music daily so its always lively. StilI charge a fee to come during weekends. It's definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

Yelp
We've been here countless times and the reason is the pizza. This place has been here for a while and they offer live music everyday. They have an old bar that swings cold and strong drinks, but you have to go up to the bar to order. Same with the pizza. Seats are first come, first served and this place gets packed! It's a must try spot.

Yelp
After hearing the rave about Village Idiot, I had to find out for myself if they truly lived up to the rave... Curiosity definitely killed the cat. I was neutral about the taste experience but, definitely noticed it's a vibrant and bustling venue that's perfect for socializing with friends and even meeting new people. Service was great but, a bit confusing due to the pizzeria and bar being two separate entities. Overall, I've had better pizza elsewhere but, definitely enjoyed the ambiance.

Yelp
I never leave long reviews, but you might like this one. Ok all the reviews say this is the best pizza around Toledo area, so we had to try it. We drove 20 minutes from downtown where there are tons of choices to eat. It was a Saturday night I grabbed my wife and said let's go try it, all excited couldn't wait. When we got there we went to walk in and was rudely stopped and told it's a $5 cover charge per person. I asked if we could just order a pizza to go, and she said you can do anything you want so I started walking in and she said that's going to be $10. I said I'm just Getting it to go and she said yea so $10. After my discussion of not having any cash she said go to an ATM or they could just add it to your bill. I said ok I'll do that, yea right. Place was packed they had a college cover band that was so loud you couldn't think. I'm no prude but I'm all ready upset. I went to order at the bar and was told to find a seat one opened up and we grabbed it. 20 minutes nobody came to take our order, now my head is throbbing I told my wife let's his to F this place. We walked out and the door person came after us and said here I'll give you $10 to stay I'll pay you. I was like what the F is going on here? She followed us down the block trying to put the money In my hand, but I didn't want it, I wanted a pizza that's all. So that $10 she wanted to charge me cost the business at least $60-$100. That's my story I'm sticking to it.

Yelp
We get their pizza for take-away quite often. The toppings are generous and high quality. The pizza is a thin crust style which is usually not my favorite, but it works. I will repeat, toppings are very generous. My favorite is to keep things simple because more than 3 is just overkill. The place itself is known for being a local hangout for musicians and they are always busy. But food-wise, pizza is on point.

Yelp
We were visiting the area recently and this came up as a great lunch option. It's a lively pub atmosphere with fun decorations. I am pretty sure the menu is all pizza which is what we were there for anyway! Service is at the bar/counter but they were helpful and friendly. We opted for the chef's veggie pizza which is basically whatever veggies they have on hand! He did ask if there was anything we "didn't" want but we were all in. We got a pizza stacked with veggies including whole mushrooms. Even with all that, the crust was crispy and delicious. It was just the right size for two very hungry adults to share, so no to-go box. But, we'll go back when we're in the area again. I wasn't a fan of the plastic, paper plate and pizza pan but that's really my only quibble.

Cameron B.

Yelp
Once a year I'm in the area and always stop at The Village Idiot. The pizzas are fantastic and the vibe of the place is great. The bar tenders are friendly and are quick to get your drinks. The wait time can be a little long, but the pizzas are worth it!

Terry W.

Yelp
The best pizza in Maumee, great atmosphere is you like to chill and listen to live music.
google avatar

Greg Q.

Yelp
We are new to the area from New Jersey. As I was on a sales call last month, a colleague of mine declared " and that place (pointing to the Villiage Idiot) has the best pizza in town." If I had a nickel for every time I've heard that .... Well tonight we decided to try the pizza. FANTASTIC. The sauce isn't too sweet, the cheese is very nice and the crust is thick enough to hold the structure of the pizza and still not be too much. We only tried cheese tonight but if this is a preview, I can't wait to try more. Ciao.

Josh H.

Yelp
The food is ok, I called a while back and the owner was very very rude on the phone so I said I wouldn't never go back and I haven't. I think pretty much everything there is way over priced, for the quality of the food.

Tony B.

Yelp
Awesome pizza and even cooler place. Uptown maumee is super quaint and this place is a badass centerpiece. Friendly, attentive staff and good prices. You need to check it out!
google avatar

Miranda L.

Yelp
Village Idiot is a fun, low-key dive in downtown Maumee, OH. The inside has eclectic decor all around, quite a bit of seating, large bar, and pizza ordering window. Village Idiot only serves tavern style pizzas (byo and specialties). Our group got (2) pizza to share between three of us which was perfect. One may need to wait 20-30 min for a pizza on a busy day but everything comes out piping hot and fresh. One also has to go up to the bar to order drinks but they offered a wide variety at killer prices (capt and diet: $4, busch light: $2, Two Hearted: $5). Be sure to come early for a night they have live music to grab a table and enjoy!
google avatar

Aaron L.

Yelp
My absolute favorite spot to grab a pizza in NW Ohio! I love the staff, the pizzas are amazing, customize them with so many different toppings! There will never be another Village Idiot, I love the vibe and atmosphere!
google avatar

Leigh G.

Yelp
Best part of visiting my hometown may well be grabbing a pie at the Village Idiot ~ one of my top favorite places for pizza. Fun place to catch up with old friends, meet new ones, and listen to some great live music.
google avatar

Leah W.

Yelp
Very good pizza. Good size and the meatball topping is great. Was there to cheer for the glass city marathon. Small place so seating is limited. Had live music and charged a $5 cover.
google avatar

Bobby G.

Yelp
Had to check out the supposedly best pizza in area last week I give u a 2.5 : cauliflower crust was cooked too long hard crust"" the meat was chunky and tough texture : but it looks good from distant but so misleading: bought last week so disappointin
google avatar

Dennis W.

Yelp
Local Legend! Great pizza, beer , staff. You WILL make friends as the patrons are friendly. Great place the teams with the AUTISM COMMUNITY for a BIG MULTI DAY FUNDRAISER EACH YEAR. Stop in, enjoy! You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
So good! The smell is amazing when walk in! I love the atmosphere too! So eclectic! The food is great and simple. No service to really rate.

Ryan B.

Yelp
I have heard the hype of this place for a while now and decided to give it a shot. To Village Idiot's credit, it's a nice space with great beer prices. However, the pizza left a lot to be desired. I love thin crust and cutting in squares is the way to go, but this just was not it for me. I felt that this was more like a dressed up frozen pizza. The crust was brittle like a Jack's frozen pizza that you can get for $3.50 at Walmart and the pizza was so greasy that it became hard to stomach the center pieces. On top of that I felt very sick for the next 24 hours after. I want to enjoy this place because it's a great spot in a great area, but the pizza is not there for me.
google avatar

Christina L.

Yelp
Traveling through had to stop in and try the infamous idiot pizza . Didn't disappoint at all everyone was so friendly and the bevy's were cold and the pizza hot and tasty .
google avatar

Suzanne O.

Yelp
The pizza here, is the best I've ever had. The crust is thin and crispy. The toppings are in large pieces, and plentiful. A word of warning, the pizza is so hot, when it comes out. You may burn your mouth, if you try to eat it, before it cools, a bit.

Derek M.

Yelp
Awesome pizza, great drinks, and live music what more could you want. Will visit next time I'm in the area.
google avatar

Kent M.

Yelp
Geez what a different deal here. Noisily, really, lots of amazing looking pizzas on several customers tables. Noise, plenty of, bar setting. Order at one in-wall hole into kitchen area, pay for food there. Then sit if can find a spot, pay for drinks at bar. Different but all good. And this is historically not my kind of place for anything!! Well I'm a new huge fan of this experience!!

Mike D.

Yelp
Service was great and food was as well. Burgers are awesome. Prices were on par and beers were a good selection
google avatar

Michelle Josette J.

Yelp
First, let me say this. I'm from Detroit, MI and we have some of the best pizza places in the country! I now live in Indianapolis and the pizza around here is ok. But Village Idiot!! Ba-bee!! This is THE BEST F'N PIZZA I HAVE EVER HAD!! It is ALWAYS THE SAME FANTASTICALLY DELICIOUS PIZZA!! All the ingredients are fresh! They don't give you pebbles of Italian sausage or pepperoni, not a slither of veggies, nope nope nope!! You get fresh chunks of Italian sausage and pepperoni! The veggies are fresh and whole! The sauce is homemade as is the dough!! It's just incredibly damn good pizza! Plus, great drinks, great atmosphere and a stage where bands play live music!! I love Village Idiot and will drive 2 1/2 hours to hangout, eat good and enjoy the vibe!!
google avatar

Rob R.

Yelp
Started off with a $5.00 cover charge. Which isn't a big deal I was just surprised. Found out they had live bands that night. Took us about 45 to grab two seats at the bar. This place was packed!!! We ended up ordering a pizza which you have to go up to this window and order it and pay for it there. A little inconvenient, but it is was it is. The pizza was totally worth the wait and price. It was outstanding! My wife doesn't eat any sort of meat on a pizza so it was all vegetables. I wasn't so sure at first, then I took the first bite and I was sold. I would totally eat that again. We can't wait to go back again and try other pizzas out. Can't believe I've lived here for so long and it took me this long to get food from there. We highly recommend at least trying it. Go early though cause your going to wait for sure.

Michael M.

Yelp
I ordered two pizzas by phone at 9:45 PM on a Friday for pickup at 11:00 PM. When I arrived, they had a rock band playing. I approached the entrance and was asked to pay a $5 cover. I explained I was there to pick up my pizzas. It's not a problem. I went to a pickup window. My pizzas were ready in hot boxes. I listen to the band on my way out. I'll have to come back just for the live music. Pizzas are still hot when I get home. Outstanding pies. Just what I had ordered. Delicious! I will be back for some more pizzas.
google avatar

Kevin M.

Yelp
Stopped here for the first time and we will definitely be back. We had a couple cold beers and a wonderful pepperoni pizza. The pizza was on an awesome thin crispy crust. The sauce was flavorful, but not overpowering and the cheese and pepperoni were tremendous. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The place is very eclectic as well as the music.

David M.

Yelp
Everything was top notch! Will definitely return. Very diverse crowd and a unique atmosphere. Pizza(s) were excellent!
google avatar

Linda S.

Yelp
Yummy, yummy pizza and a great selection of beers. Service was fast and the wait staff had their stuff together.
google avatar

Todd S.

Yelp
Can't say how food was service when I asked for a menu was treated poorly. Only to find out you order pizza in one place and drinks at another with two separate bills. Not very convenient. I left without ordering anything.
google avatar

Bryan T.

Yelp
Ive never had a bad time here. The Christmas vibes were incredible. Couldn't get a seat so this group of Good Samaritans got up just so we could sit down. They reminded me of the 3 wise men providing shelter to baby Jesus in Bethlehem. What an incredible night, entire bar sang happy birthday to my wife Caitlin. It was actually Kristy's birthday, Caitlin's was on the 24th, long story. But man great pizza, and a fun little bathroom located in the basement. We heard there was gonna be live band but it's the middle of the night and haven't heard one song. Merry Christmas you all, God bless. Go Blue. Easy 4 stars.

Kristin H.

Yelp
Food is amazing. Can't get enough of the meatball sand-wedge and their homemade ranch. Everything they serve is awesome.
google avatar

Jaelyn S.

Yelp
I think about this pizza often. If I lived closer, I would not take it for granted. Amazing pizza, friendly staff. I hope to be back there soon. Don't miss out! Go get some pizza from the Village Idiot!
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
Yes, the photos are two different pizzas from back to back days. I was in town for work, hungry for pizza, saw pics on Yelp and had to try it. Hands down, the best thin crust pizza I've ever had. Five stars, 10/10, whatever rating I can give, I highly recommend.
google avatar

Nina W.

Yelp
This pizza is Ducking (iPhone) good. If you're in the area and need to hear live band jazz and blues (I think) and need need some good PIZZA and drinks than look no further the Village Idiot is where you need to be. Good food Good drinks Oh lord we thank You.
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
This is literally one of THE BEST pizza places in the Toledo area!!! I never order a plain cheese pizza from anywhere but I will from here! I have never had a bad pizza from the Idiot! They have a variety of speciality pizzas to choose from and a wide variety of toppings to build your own pizza. It's definitely a dive atmosphere but it is clean and the staff is friendly. They almost always have live music. Their house band is enjoyable to listen to while you enjoy a pizza and drinks with friends.
google avatar

Tahsin A.

Yelp
Best pizza in the Maumee or Toledo, OH area! We ordered a few pizzas for a family gathering, and they were ready on time, were delicious, and staff was friendly. Restaurant gets loud as they usually have a live band playing in the evenings. Was a fun atmosphere!
google avatar

Dave W.

Yelp
This place is awful but I guess that's why people love it. Pizza is different but in no way amazing like people say. Bartenders were so crappy to us.
google avatar

Julie P.

Yelp
What an awesome hole in the wall pizza joint. The wall decor is certainly enough to keep you busy until your pizza arrives. They are all made from scratch, so it does take a little time for your pizza to arrive. We ordered a few pizzas, and one was their cauliflower crust, and everything was amazing! Don't sleep on the pickle pizza - it's everything you want it to be!

K D.

Yelp
This place was amazing. Live music and great pizza. Order your pizza ar rhe window and grab a drink at the bar while you wait.

Russ W.

Yelp
Nice place with a great vibe, pizza, drink options. My only concern are the up charges. $2 per pizza for takeout. 15% gratuity for larger order. I thought you'd get a discount for a larger takeout, not punished. I paid over $20 extra for five pizza. Just raise your prices so the customer knows what they're getting. Was deceptive and never would get a large order there again. But a small order? Yes, great pizza and atmosphere, just make that dough the right way please.

Kearston R.

Yelp
Oh my goodness is this pizza delicious!! The pickle pizza is phenomenal and everything you would hope it would be. If you're looking for thin crust pizza done right search no further, Village Idiot is the spot. Service is walk up window and bar to order then you grab a seat if you can find one. We came on St. Patty's day so there was a $5 cover charge and 21 & up after 4pm but it was well worth it. Staff is chill and personable. Live music ambiance 7 days a week is cool for a small local place like this. My partner and I will for sure be back over and over again.

Rhett C.

Yelp
Pizza was great! Lots of choices and specialty pizzas. loud music! Live band. Full crowd of people enjoying the food drinks and entertainment.
google avatar

Nick A.

Yelp
If you want the best pizza of your life, it's here. Local bar that does one thing, make amazing pizza. They make all the ingredients fresh and local! Pick it up or eat it there, but be prepared to wait because it's busy. Live music every night and it's a small place so plan accordingly. Excellent beer selection. A must stop!
google avatar

Jean R.

Yelp
This, in my opinion, is the best pizza around! The service is great, plus they have entertainment! It's very casual - a local bar feeling, so you can go in jeans if you like! Nice "hometown" feel!

Gretchen B.

Yelp
Delicious pizza especially the cauliflower crust Greek or Tuscan !! Live music. Cover charge $5. Pizza only. Lots of beer.
