The Violet Crown Review - Crestview - Austin - The Infatuation

"Located in a tiny shopping center in Crestview next to the original , The Violet Crown is a coffee shop, wine bar, and bottle shop here to serve your all-day needs. And while there is a small selection of wines available by-the-glass, the more economical move is to grab a bottle from the shop, pay a $12 corkage fee to enjoy it on-site, then bring home whatever you don’t finish. There’s also a small menu of light bites available—including a weekly oyster night—but to really live the Crestview experience, grab a couple of slices of pizza from Little Deli next door and enjoy them with some AC and some wine at Violet Crown. really nice place to work from during the day. turns into a great date spot at night, with plenty of natty wine and finger foods to snack on.

This is essentially a café that serves wine and coffee, and also has small snacks and meals. It’s a very nice place to relax and do some work and it is very quiet. It is in the location of the old Crestview pharmacy.

Truly great coffee & wine shop in lovely neighborhood location! Beautiful space inside, yum coffee drinks, pastries & kerlaches for breakfast. Great selection of wines at various price points. Extremely friendly, efficient help from Evian today & on another recent visit. Highest recommendation - love!

Google
I found it a little on the pricey side, but the ambiance of the coffee spot is great—definitely a nice place to hang out. It also doubles as a wine bar with plenty of options to choose from. Plus, the neighborhood itself is really nice.

Google
What a fun new shop in the neighborhood! Wine choices are phenomenal. Coffee menu looks fantastic. Atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I had the tinned mussels escabeche and WOW sooo good ! Got to admit I was very nervous to try but the owner assured me that if I didn't like them he would eat them lol !!! Small sidewalk patio is available. I honestly see myself as regular already 💯

Google
Amazing little neighborhood nook. A great place to slip away - have a girls or guys night, read a book and sip wine, have a nice date. It feels like a wonderful little adult hideaway buried in the heart of the Violet Crown residential area - across the plaza from the Austin “Locals” iconic Little Deli.

I absolutely love this place, you really have to visit to experience the vibe. The coffee is excellent, and the atmosphere is special. However, what breaks my heart is seeing the majority of customers using single use plastic to go cups. There should be an extra charge to discourage the use of disposable plastic. Don’t people realize how harmful this is, not just for the environment, but potentially for their own health too? It’s simply not worth trading a great coffee for long term damage. Wake up, folks. Let’s do better.

Google
Really cool place, and more importantly, amazing staff. My partner and I came over after eating at little deli, mainly because I really wanted the Basque cheesecake. After sitting down with our wine a staff member came over to tell us they were out of cheesecake for the day and offered an alternative. Then she comped the desserts which was not necessary at all. I wish I had gotten her name, but she is a gem. The chocolate cake was good, the wine was better, and the vibes were immaculate. My partner and I will be back.... hopefully before they run out of cheesecake this time.

Google
I love this place and feel so lucky to have it in my neighborhood! The staff is always so friendly and super sweet to my kids every time we are in. LOVE the coffee and selection of wines. Pastries are delicious, too. It's the perfect spot for working, meeting up with a friend, or an intimate date night. Plus the bathrooms are great :)

Yelp
One of my new favorites cafes in the city. This place has great interior and lighting/design/seating. I love the thoughtful and aesthetic design. Their drinks are consistent and they have great coffee. I enjoy their matcha latte a lot, same with espresso based coffees. Their cake donuts are also tasty. Love that theres a pizzeria across too. Biggest con for me is the loud music, they almost always blast music and it doesnt work well with the chill relaxing vibe of the shop. Please have more relaxing music or turn down the volume!

Yelp
Let's start out with the their charcuterie board "choices". You can order a meat board OR a cheese board but if you want both it's nearly $60 and it barely feeds 2 people. As we sit down and TRY to enjoy our overpriced, skimpy meat board, a militia of loud, obnoxious kids descends upon the patio. They set up a HUGE speaker on a dolly FIVE FEET from our table and start BLASTING shitty music. They proceed to start screaming because they are trying to speak simultaneously OVER each other AND the blaring music. I proceed to go inside to find out what exactly is going on. I ask if we can move the block party a little bit further away from the patio in general but more specifically our table. A gentleman proceeds to inform me that he's the owner, and that he is the one who organized this "event" of loud kids and there's nothing I can do about it. I told him it would have been nice to be informed that this "gathering" was taking place LITERALLY on their patio BEFORE we purchased our items. We honestly would have gone somewhere else. Somewhere where we can enjoy our food and wine in a somewhat peaceful environment. He made it clear to us he didn't care. Our choices were to Either accept it and ignore it or just leave. So we left. Do yourself a favor and head over to; Grove wine bar, Aviary wine & kitchen or Dai Dui. They all have far superior charcuterie boards, prices, service and you can carry on a conversation without having to scream to the person next to you. The owners at all of these establishments are very hands on and attentive to their guests needs. Lastly, I'd like to add the arrogance and nasty energy from the owner was absolutely uncalled for and unwarranted. He clearly does NOT value his guests or the money they spend at his establishment. When we walked up and explained we were gonna order a bottle of wine and food for outside is when we should have been informed a LITERAL circus was about to take place on their patio. Instead we are told " OH WELL, too bad, so sad". If you are a hard working person who wants to relax after a long week DO NOT GO TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT. I watched as Kids whose parents were frequenting the nearby businesses break off from their parents and come and annoy us and other guests that were also on the patio. There literally are kids riding their scooters and bikes EVERYWHERE around your table like it's their own personal obstacle course. Know that the ambiance is AWFUL. There's usually screaming kids running unchecked EVERYWHERE while Overwhelmed mothers are holding their CRYING Infants. The violet crown wine bar is nothing more than a daycare center. THERE WAS NOT A FATHER FOR MILES AROUND TO SEE. IN CLOSING: If you enjoy loud blaring music, screaming kids, crying babies, overpriced drinks and food along with an owner who gives terrible customer service; THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU.

Yelp
Didn't know what to expect with wine bar / coffee bar combo but was really happily surprised to find they delivered both really really well! (Not to mention the very unique wine selection, we took six bottles home!!) The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and really attentive to their guests. They did a great job with the decor and the place have a really chill vide I'd certainly come back to again! Well played Violet Crown... well played.

Yelp
I visited Violet Crown Coffee Shop and had the Golden Milk, which tasted authentic and was delicious! The ambiance was cozy and charming, creating the perfect spot to relax or catch up with friends. The service was friendly and efficient, making the whole experience even better. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Austin!

Yelp
Really lovely coffee shop and wine bar! I came to cowork and it's a nice environment for that - low ambient conversation and music. It is lacking outlets though. My matcha oat milk latte was sooo good and service was quick. Will be coming back!

Yelp
This was my second time going here and it was a nice chill vibe. They have a huge parking lot outside that is shared with the other businesses nearby. I got their iced mactcha that also had pistachio milk, and cardamom. It was a fun twist on the traditional drink. They also had a happy hour going on all day Monday and my friend had some wine she enjoyed. It wasn't too crowded on a Monday night which was nice and they also had some yummy treats you could purchase. Would come back to try more of the menu!
google avatar

Yelp
Great ambience! My matcha latte (pictured) was very good and not watery and I got a brisket kolache. The kolache was overpriced in my opinion, about ~$6, but was very delicious. I appreciate coffee shops that have bright/natural lighting and ample plugs and this place has both!

Yelp
I ordered an iced lavender latte, and honestly it wasn't my favorite. I barely tasted the lavender, which I could've lived with if the coffee itself had been good, but it had a sort of aftertaste that I didn't enjoy (maybe this is the acidity that coffee people talk about?). So that on top of it costing me over $7, which I feel is a bit outrageous even in this day and age, just added up to two stars. On a more positive note though, there's plenty of seating inside, making it a good place to either study or hang out with friends, as well as plenty of parking outside. Can't speak on their wine bar aspect but not my favorite place for coffee in Austin

Yelp
From the moment you walk in your greet with 2 things: Amazing service with friendly smiles and the sweet aroma of amazing coffee. The area is very clean and their wine selection layout is super nice and presentable. Def coming back to check out their wine selection but this lunch trip consisted of an order of their cold brew coffee and a matcha latte. The cold brew I believe was infused with cinnamon so it was EXTREMELY flavorful and bold. Cold brew is best drunken black in my opinion but adding milk would have been a nice touch for my dairy (and non dairy of course) lovers. The matcha latte was sooo good! My girlfriend unfortunately ordered it with regular whole milk and being locators intolerant myself I had to opt out of drinking it after a few sips but man was it tasty. Overall cute little spot to grab a drink (alcoholic or not) and to sit and read a book, have a convo with a friend(s), or to get some work done.

Yelp
This has always been a primo location and now Violet Crown has made it even nicer. There are outdoor tables. Inside is spacious and light. There are a few larger group tables as well as smaller ones up against the back wall. There's also a couple of small comfortable chairs that are deep, great to sit in but a little hard to get up, out of (In a good way). I've been with several friends and everyone has always liked it. Lots of coffee choices and both sweet and savory pastries. There's a good wine selection and a cheese plate. I've seen all sorts of people and groups here, from single folks working on computers to book clubs.

Yelp
Perfect spot in a quaint neighborhood. Across the street from Little Deli (arguably the best pizza in town - coming from a New York and New Haven native). Grab yourself a slice and a flight, followed by last minute groceries at Fresh Plus. Even better? If you live somewhere in the neighborhood, go ahead and take your bike for a leisure ride to fuel up. I ordered a flight for $25, 3 half pours. Marameo (White), Bifrost (Orange), and Cabernet (name is escaping me, but from Mendoza). All recommendations were made by Alex, and they did not disappoint! A pleasant surprise to be greeted by David, the manager, who we've crossed paths with before. We look forward to returning!

Yelp
Cute little coffee house/wine bar/hangout place we recently discovered, wish we had gone here earlier . They have small eats and amazing wine, good WiFi . We had a pleasant time hanging out and they also had live music on a Saturday evening, ambiance was great! The gluten free chocolate cake was good . And we also ordered the almonds which was decent and flavored right . Cabernet Sauvignon was the best out of the red wine we tried and definitely recommend it . Plan on coming back during a weekday to just chill and work here with some wine and eats .

Yelp
Came here for a meet up with a group. Talking to the manager, this is a new place that's recently open this year in May time frame. They have a nice setting for small group gathering. I got a glass of wine as I mingle with the group. They also serve appetizers/food if you're a little hungry. But I would not come here for a full meal. You can also buy a whole bottle of wine to share for 22$. Pretty good deal imo. Overall a nice and easy going place. Parking is fairly easy too.

Yelp
I discovered this place on Instagram and was excited to try working at a new coffee shop. It was already pretty busy just a few months after opening and you can tell it's going to be a neighborhood staple. The space is really nice and the barista was really friendly. I had a oat milk coffee frozen latte and part of a danish pastry and they were both delicious. It was a little pricier (the latte was $7) but I don't mind it if it's worth it. However, I wouldn't really recommend this space for focused working. There appear to be no power outlets anywhere, the music was a little clubby, and people were chatting quite a bit. It seems to be more of a social space which is great but just not the best for work. I did appreciate that the high tables have hooks underneath to hang bags though the bar area didn't seem to have them.

Yelp
Really good coffee and pastries Very much 3rd wave coffee, with all the related equipment. That said, your (excellent) espresso comes with a shottino of water like in Italy, the pastries are decadent, and there insolente of room to chill So yeah, defo recommended...

Yelp
Stopped by The Violet Crown for an afternoon of studying. The baristas were super friendly and made a delicious iced mocha. I noticed that alternative milks was included in the price which was a huge plus for me. There are large and small table options both inside and outside for any party size. Parking was very easy to find in the plaza. I loved the tiled bar area and the music playlist was top notch. Overall, vibes are immaculate. I'll be back!

Yelp
A charming, beautiful, safe space to enjoy with friends or loved ones for an espresso, a flight (on Wednesdays), or a whole bottle of their extensive collection of natty wine. It's about time Austin had some comfortable wine bars, and this one is smartly tucked into Crestview, where we're starved for sweet spots like this. I love me some vino, but am new to natural wines, so this venue is the perfect landing spot, with Lindsey as a decorated Somm (and Cicerone), she can sample and guide you into the comfortable (or more unexpected) picks among their broad selection. I'm so excited that some of the approachability of craft beer culture has crossed over into the wine community with people and places like this, and many of the profiles (seen in some of the whites and orange wines) may remind you of Saison, Farmhouse, or funkier. This is grown-up day drinking, without any collars. Super impressed with their "snacks," as the cheese & charcuterie is enough to ruin any meal - reasonably priced, and some of the most incredible selections I've had on a plate - Antonelli's would be proud! Also serving some of the crispest marinated olives and fresh oysters, along with Texas French Bread pastries, living up to their local namesake. This will surely be a neighborhood gem in no time.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
The prices charged for glasses of wine is ridiculously high. I've visited The Violet Crown twice while waiting for my order at the nearby Little Deli, and I'll not frequent this vastly overpriced "wine bar" again.
google avatar

Yelp
My new favorite coffee shop and wine bar! I've been here an embarrassing number of times since my husband and I discovered it a year ago when we transferred our toddler to a new daycare close by. This place is amazing. The best mochas in town, they don't load them up with chocolate and sweetener like so many others. Love the selection of natural wines. The vibe inside is perfect, lively and active but not crazy. Employees are just lovely. Lots of tables. There are always a ton of people working here or Moms with their kiddos.

Yelp
Hollie B says "New Fave Place Alert!" I can totally totally go with this. * * * Samuel C loves his coffee houses. Violet Crown - a new arrival - is a top ten percenter in a town that has just a whole whole lot of really good coffee houses. Coffee houses need to have a) Great coffee b) Fine food c) Great places to sit d) The ability to actually get a seat e) A population of nuts, flakes and lunatics doing something odd and twisted on their computers while you work on yours. Violet Crown scores on a) Is unknown on b) (I didn't eat when I went) Scores on c) Scores on d) Flunks on e) But that is okay. The coffee is just wonderful. The room is classy and beautiful. It is relatively underpopulated. That means getting a seat is a piece of cake. I have lost hours of my weekend going from coffee house 1 to coffee house 2 to coffee house 6 to find no free tables, no free seats, and no parking nearby either when you get down to it. So being able to go into a beautiful place with great coffee, Just sit down, and get on with the work of the day is a big big deal for this boy. As for the lunatics and psychos factor, Crestwood just isn't a lunatic and psycho neighborhood. Think 35 year old people with interesting serious jobs. If you want wild eyed crazies who have made plenty of life mistakes, You have to go to Cherrywood Coffee House for that. But the customers are pleasant enough at the Violet Crown. On days when I have to get work done, And I just want beauty, peace and quiet with a cup of strong espresso, Violet Crown is calling my name. * * * Follow Hollie B! She is leading the way!

Yelp
Yay a new place. I'm hoping their hours stay the same! I love being able to go out before 4pm like so many places. Great owners here! Tasty wine and excellent espresso drinks. Stop by at little Deli for lunch and head to VC for a tasty bevy. The new decor is fabulous. I do miss the PAC Man. Happy hour all weekdays.

Yelp
What a wonderful atmosphere! If you're looking to go on a date, chat with a friend, read a book, or even get some stuff done on your computer, this is a great environment with both indoor and outdoor seating. The person taking my order was very patient and informative. He helped me choose a great wine for the season. The herb that was delicious!
google avatar

Steve W.

Yelp
This is one of those spots that are popular with the local area residents within the confines of this ages old strip center. There's lots of indoor and outdoor seating including a comfy spot in the middle of the room. The one thing that really got my attention was the fact that they have an extraordinary collection of eclectic wines that you would not normally ever see in most grocery stores. The selection really is remarkable and the dollar price is written directly on each bottle. Plenty of organic options to choose from. They also have a good selection of bottled ciders as well. You can buy wine by the glass, but I did not see any sake. Another plus about this place is that you can order a pizza from the "Little Deli" pizza place across the parking lot and bring it into this establishment. I have to admit if I lived close to this establishment, I'd be here more times than I could afford. And yes, this is one of those establishments that will hit you with a tip screen when you complete your order. Photos below help to fill in the blanks. ****1/2

Yelp
New fave place alert! My bestie and I tried Violet Crown for the first time this afternoon, after perusing the snack menu, which included chips, dip and an optional side of caviar. Friendly service? Check! Amazing coffee smells? Check! Cool/ classy/ casual/ inviting atmosphere? Check! Amazing wine selection? Check! Best snack menu in town? Check! Check! Check! I don't know why I have never thought to marinate Castelvetrano olives in orange zest and garlic before, but now that I've tried it, I will never be the same. The herbed dip that comes with the potato chips is also a delicious and bright delight! Offering caviar as a side with chips and dip is brilliant too. We had a lovely time, and I look forward to going back very soon.

Yelp
Such a cute coffee shop and bar. Perfect for a first date or friend meet ups, work space or study. Small town vibes on the outside calm lux vibes on the inside. Coffee runs from $7-9, drinks by the glass $16+, and bottles for $21+. They have a wine club and bottles for purchase. Overall very nice experience and the staff were very kind as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Super cute wine bar walkable from my house - what is not to love!!!?? Service was very kind and attentive. Only tried their wine on our first visit but will take a look at the snack menu in the future!

Yelp
Wow, what a NEW hidden gem. My friend and I were lucky enough to stumble upon this coffee + wine shop after eating at Little Deli. Our barista, Evian, was so sweet. They told us they were still in their soft launch phase and would be opening June 2nd. We tried the latte with turmeric in it and it was wonderful! The seating is ridiculously comfortable and I even hate that I'm sharing this place because I want it all to myself!!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely adored this spot! Saw it it in the community impact! What a gem. LGBTQ+ owned! Great wine and snack selection. Great atmosphere and vibe/ immaculate! Will be back for sure

Yelp
Super cute coffee/wine bar :) my sister and I got their matchas and they were delicious (one of the few places that puts enough matcha in a drink!) super friendly staff and ambiance is very cute inside!

Yelp
Great matcha lattes - not too sweet. The cookie filled cookie was ok. The burnt cheesecake was decent. Super chill spot.

Yelp

Yelp
Great location to go chill and meet friends. Small bites menu is great. They made my macha perfectly. Friends had the wine said it was fantastic. Staff is amazing and helpful. If isn't area go support them they have nice place and chill atmosphere.

Yelp
We absolutely love this place. I don't know what we did before it opened. Killer wine selection. Amazing spot to meet a friend for a last min drink or have a much needed date with your partner. A wonderful coffee selection too. The vibes are great. Thank you owners of Violet crown, our community needed a space like this.

Yelp
Fantastic movie experience seeing Barbie with friends! They have a menu of small plates and we shared a goat cheese & prosciutto pizza, two pieces each (6). Then we had drinks and a mocktail for my friend's kid. They have validated parking but you have to get the ticket stamped. And it's convenient and connected upstairs. We bought tickets online. Comfortable movie chairs and nice staff!

Yelp
Came here to purchase a couple bottles of wine. There's an entire section against the wall to the right. They have a good mix of wines with many you won't find in big box stores. The bottles are clearly marked with their prices chalked in on the top of the bottle and organized on shelves by color, variety, etc. They have a number of wines between $20-30 a good sweet spot. I didn't see anything under $20 or so - if your looking for more of a daily wine you might have to compromise or pay more for better quality. I'm normally on the hunt for a good Pinot Noirs from the willamette valley under $30 and found few unique finds here. They also have natural wines as well and I got a bubbly pet nat as well. I pretty much came here knowing what I wanted. However if you didn't, the staff is very available to help you on your journey. The other major attraction here is their wine bar and it looks like they will oysters on Mondays. I still have to try the bar but it looks like there's allot of seating to sit and have a glass. They also have coffee based drinks on the morning.

Brian N.

Yelp
This place is great, amiable atmosphere. Not an expert but love their coffee. Depending on the day/time, it could be a pleasant place to work, or a great place to meet with friends for some wine or coffee. Easy parking and service is always good. The setup of the place is comfortable and feels thoughtfully planned, there are some tables to sit on outside as well
google avatar

James T.

Yelp
What a wonderful addition to the Crestview / Brentwood neighborhood. A beautiful shop with wonderful coffee/espresso options, reasonably priced, and quickly delivered. We haven't tried the wine or food selections yet but will be back shortly for that next.
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
adorable spot, excellent service. You can have sandwiches from the deli while you enjoy your wine, oysters on Monday and $20 wine flights on Wednesday! The best part of our visit was Blake! He did our flight for us, spoke about the wines with knowledge and passion. When we were done, I asked if he could pick a wine for us to take home. He took his time to make thoughtful suggestions and answer questions. Great service, great selection, adorable vibes. We will be back! (Bring a jacket inside if you get cold :) thank you Blake! (And the sweet girl that welcomed us )

Yelp
Obsessed with this place!! Such a great vibe and the wine selection is phenomenal. The staff were super friendly & helped us pick out the perfect Sauvignon Blanc. Will definitely be back again soon!

Vadim M.

Yelp
Very educated staff, great products, come and try the snacks over here...!!! Great and elegant location.

Yelp
One of the absolute best places to view a film in Austin. Nice beer list. Good wine list. Chocolate dessert was worth the trip all on its own.
google avatar

Jared H.

Yelp
Wonderful neighborhood coffeeshop. Walked over with a friend while visiting Austin. Friendly, helpful service. The hibiscus donut was fluffy and tasty. The croissant from Texas French Bread also hit the spot. Great place to grab coffee and snacks in the morning if you're in the neighborhood.

Mina S.

Yelp
I got turmeric milk coffee item, which was very good. No area to access an outlet or plug laptop in for power. Happy with the vibe and ambience. Definitely going to check out again. People were friendly at front and the girl was great with my request.
google avatar

Stella M.

Yelp
Gorgeous ambiance, delicious treats & drinks, and a lovely staff. What more does one need?! Five stars for this beautiful addition to central Austin! Can't wait to go back for a wine night!

Marlena G.

Yelp
Friendly staff, great coffee place. I'll go back but beware no power outlets along the seated area on the wall in the back of the shop. But that's because the building is old. Drip coffee I had tasted bitter to me so I'll try some of the drinks next time. Overall, great little coffee shop.
google avatar

Molly W.

Yelp
A great neighborhood spot! Lovely ambiance and tasty offerings from the coffee and wine bars. We'll be back often!

Alex A.

Yelp
Love the decor/design and atmosphere. Great selection of wine and bites. Get the basque cheesecake!

Colton E.

Yelp
I had the most incredible time during my first visit to this wine bar! Sommelier Lindsey's expertise took me on a delightful wine journey. Her extensive industry experience was evident, and I learned so much. This charming spot is perfect for a romantic date night--I'll definitely return, hoping to be guided by Lindsey again!

Christine W.

Yelp
This place was INCREDIBLE! I came here for the first time last night & the gentleman at the front was so easy to work with. He gave great recommendations, went over all the menus with us and was just a pleasure to work with. 10/10 service! The vibes are also so great here- everything is clean and cute! Will definitely be coming back!
