If you love beer, then you should be here. This is a craft beer bar that has one of the best selections you will find. From holy grains to local favorites. You can also order delicious food from their neighbor Cleats. Our beer tender was knowledgeable friendly, and attentive making sure we felt like regulars. Also the crowd it brings in is fantastic, beer lovers sharing the experience. I wish I was local, I would be there all the time. Thank you The Whale Collective.

The Whale is essentially a beer tasting collective. It offers a large number of locally brewed beer on tap as well as an extensive collection of canned and bottled local brews. It’s inside The Refinery and has a nice minimalist vibe bar area and out side tables on a large elevated patio. We were there for a late afternoon beer tasting before dinner and were well served by the variety of offerings and a competent bartender. Plenty of onsite parking and food options include the adjacent restaurant and transient food trucks. This is a good addition to the charleston beer community and we recommend a visit. It gets four clams on the coveted Five Quahog Rating Scale.

We arrived and thought we had gone to the wrong place! But tucked around the corner, we found it. Absolutely love the 80s vibe. They even had a little pop up with vendors and we ended up getting two 80s vintage jackets. It was a windy day though so we stayed inside the bar area. Very solid beer selection. Got there before it was crowded but did appreciate they let people bring their dogs inside. Would definitely come back here again!

I follow a vegan food truck around Charleston bc I’m obsessed with them lol and they were at the Whale the other night. My first time here, I was so impressed. Super cute and cool spot. No local brews which you get bombarded with here so this was a breath of fresh air. I randomly picked one of the many good options they had and it was soooo good. Will have to come back soon. Bartenders were awesome too!

Great local place. The beers and atmosphere are AMAZING. It's away from the hassle and bussel of of the center of downtown. They have a LARGE beer selection and definitely HIGHLY recommended

An absolute awesome place to visit if you are a beer nerd or even if you're trying to get into beer! The staff and ambiance and vibes of this place is amazing! They have a HUGE selection of different styles of beer from all over. It's definitely a place worth visiting!

Loved the vibrant colors inside! The decor was so unique- perfect for photos. Had inside, outdoor, and rooftop seating. The bartender was friendly and gave great recommendations for non-alcoholic options. There is not a food menu, but food options are available. Great spot to check out!

Great selection of beer, ales, ciders, and sour beer on tap and in cans. Love the variety of non-local items. Bartender was very nice. Calm atmosphere located at The Refinery with a restaurant next door.

Drinks and service was amazing. Watched stranger things there. Very nice lighting and scenery, they have a train rail and a stage that are beautiful.

Tucked by the railroad tracks just beyond downtown Charleston proper and before reaching Park Circle, The Whale is a fun spot to pop in for a beer or to hang out for a few hours. There is ample seating inside and out, and they even have board games for you to borrow. They typically have tons of beers on tap and beers and from multiple breweries around the world in cans. Guests can order food from the sports restaurant next-door and they will bring it to you. Their logo is cool, the staff is always nice, and they even have a whale Skelton hanging from the ceiling. For brews on tap, you can order a 5oz pour inexpensively so you can enjoy several varieties. Oh, dogs are welcome, too!

The bartender seemed like he was the very least interested in us being there and we were a little surprised that most beers on tap are not local. Also NO TASTERS! So my husband and I ended up switching beers after they had been poured and tasted. They usually have a food truck. I didn't realize that The Whale is at The Refinery! Anyway, the ambiance is super cute and the parking was simple for us!

Super cute inside and out. A small little brewery tucked away near downtown. Definitely must drive to it but a great outdoor concert area. I love the interior and HUGE beer selection. Draft and can it's awesome. Easy parking lot as well. Will definitely be back

I read up on this place before our trip out to Charleston and hoped that it would not disappoint. We have a few great venues of the same type here in Tucson so my standards were really high. Upon arrival, at first glance, the place was absolutely gorgeous. You can tell that they took the time to really plan things out. The outside will eventually have a really really nice stage for outside entertainment. The inside has all the feels. Great color scheme, great vibes! Let's talk about the selection of adult beverages. Yeah, they don't disappoint, a great tap list and cans/bottles of the tap list doesn't appeal to you. (If it doesn't, something's def wrong with you). An awesome curated bottle list. This place is banging. I wish I lived in a Charleston so I could visit at least three times every week. For those of you that are lucky to visit, have a cold one for me! Cheers!

Feels like a hidden gem. Went on an ideal weather Friday night and it was shockingly not busy at all. Great indoor/outdoor seating, cute decor, massive binder of cans and bottles and ever changing draft list. Had Trillium there that had just been put on draft, and some other rare and large beers (hence the name of the bar). They also have cider, wine and other beverages. Can drink inside or take your drink out into the amphitheater area. Knowledgeable bar staff, fast service, and a ton of options. Great spot for a large variety of hard to find beer options in Charleston. So glad we stopped there!

Great selection of beer. They have around 20 beers on tap. Even more beer in cans and bottles. In my opinion, the large selection of cans and bottles is the best part! Everyone can find something that they will like. There was a pizza popup and the pizza looked very good. Only negative was they don't give you a sample of a draft beer if you request. Just say that you order a 5 oz. sample.

Christian is absolutely amazing!!!!!!! This is my first time visiting Charleston and he was so patient with me!!!! Even though Hurricane Debby is a downer, my friend and I still had an amazing time!!! Would recommend!!!

I had a really great experience here even as a non beer drinker! The vibe is really cool, parking was easy, and there was a lot of cool seating and space to explore. The space was beautiful and the art everywhere was super cool. I ordered a drink I did not like (it was like a natural seltzer drink) and they replaced it without hesitation with something else which was very kind. I appreciate that they have a sold number of cider and wine options as well for non beer drinkers. Looking forward to spending some summer nights here in the future!

Want to try any kind of beer you've been thinking about? Stop here. The menu goes on forever. Cool space that is tucked away, and the bar is comphy. On both of my visits, the staff has been informative but with just enough of a pretentiousness that they don't come across as friendly, but by no means rude. I'll stop again.

This just fits right into the Charleston beer scene! Located on upper meeting street among the "brewery district " classics this newcomer from Asheville is a curator of the unique and hard to get. Very funky Asheville vibes in a brand new building. The taproom is located on the backside of the building with a great outdoor area, indoor area, and 2nd floor outdoor balcony. Plenty of parking in the nearby gravel lot. From a huge selection on draft to two coolers full of cans you will find something for any beer lover here. There is also a decent cider selection and a spritzer for the non beer folks. Dog friendly! And food trucks for food

Clean. Cool vibe. Gonna be amazing when the band shell opens. Wide open to the music area. Not sure what the old train is gonna be but would be co if done right. 20 beers on tap today. Cooler full of local picks. Up and coming area too. We will be back.

Two visits to The Whale in the books and I am hooked. I've been missing this sort of feel since Craft Conundrum closed (RIP) - it's small, welcoming, and has a mind-blowing beer selection that has obviously been carefully and thoughtfully chosen. While they don't serve food, they do have yummy food trucks and you can bring food to sit outside. It's a cute spot in a brand new area with plenty of parking and surprisingly good sunset views.

They say open at two but when you walk in at 330 they say closed till four even though the door is open and door says 2pm not the right way to run a business.

Well may be the very best spot in Charleston to get rare craft beer. The atmosphere is amazing.

If you haven't heard of this new brew pub, you HAVE to check it out!!! The owners are incredibly down to earth & talk to everyone!! The bar staff is BEYOND helpful, friendly & knowledgeable! This place is going to be a hot spot for sure!!! GO CHECK IT OUT!

It was cold. We wanted Seol Ha's corn dogs and a beer and a place we could enjoy both and be inside with the dog. The Whale gave us this experience and my wife just kept saying she loves the vibe. I concur. This place stocks beers/ciders from all over with nothing local. The bartenders were lots of fun and very cool place. We will be back.

The Whale CHS :: A Craft Beer Collective on Meeting Street in Charleston is a great place to go for drinks and more in a cool and relaxed atmosphere. I really like the location and complex here with plenty of room to move around. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating.

Excellent Taproom with the best beer selection in Charleston. If you love craft beer and good conversation then this is the place for you. Not to mention it's a little off the beaten path so there's plenty of parking and whatnot.

Decent place, great selection of beers. Once again I find it difficult to stomach why the auto tip selections should be 20/25/30% when the only service I had was the pouring of a draft beer.

I love the Whale! Such a cool place to go drink beers you can't get anywhere else in the city. They have a great mix of Beer from all over the country - available to go or to drink at the bar. Lots of Drafts and even more cans/bottles. They also have a great outdoor space as well, which I'm going to try out next time I visit.

Beer is good. And there's good beer there. So it's good like twice as good as regular beer places. And cool lights and hats and hipster beer things. It's a good good time.

Service was absolutely terrible. The bar tender was rude to my friends and I and overall completely unfriendly and unwelcoming.

Awesome place with a solid selection of brews! Once the outdoor space is completed with the stage for live music this will be a MUST GO spot!! Can't wait to see it all come together. Until then I'll just be enjoying the beers from the balcony! -Cheers
