"Over in Old Town, the Vig broke ground as an upscale sports bar that was gambling themed. Ownership tweaked the sports booking themed and created the Whale, where it’s like the casino scene from Star Wars: The Last Jedi." - Ashok Selvam

"Logan Square’s lavish restaurant and bar the Whale from Ryan Marks, owner of glossy Old Town sports bar the Vig, is slated to open late this week. The luxe spot, named for the casino-culture term that describes a gambler with a budget between $1 to $20 million who makes ample use of the venue’s perks, will open July 5 at 2427 N. Milwaukee Avenue across from the neighborhood’s boozy Taco Bell Cantina, Block Club Chicago reported. Marks has not yet responded to requests for information. Designed to evoke mid-century American elegance with modern details, the Whale’s interior seats about 200 as well as dozens more in an outdoor space, according to Block Club. Deep reds, blacks, and gold accents amplify the luxury atmosphere, and televisions abound — some booths in the front of the restaurant have two TVs each. When they’re not in use, the screens become mirrors or art pieces, a feature that Marks hopes will keep patrons from feeling overwhelmed by televisions. There’s no listed menu yet, but pictures of familiar, hearty dishes are available on the Whale’s website and on social media. Options include Colorado lamb chops with crispy potatoes and romesco sauce, mini lobster wonton tacos with avocado, cilantro, mango salsa, and lime aioli, and a Creole-roasted pulled pork sandwich with Creole mayo, coleslaw, garlic dill pickles, and parsley. The Whale plans to serve brunch in addition to dinner, with indulgent offerings such as rock shrimp and grits with bacon, smoked sausage, garlic, yellow onion, and red and poblano peppers. Diners can expect wine, beer, and cocktails to flow steadily from behind the bar, and brunch attendees can try 100-ounce towers of sangrias, mimosas, or bellinis intended for groups. Details on the drink menu are scarce, but on social media the Whale advertised a “Negroni Week” special that donates $1 from every Negroni sold to Chicago’s Food Bank. Marks, formerly of Big Onion Tavern Group, opened 1950’s-style sports bar the Vig in Old Town in 2015. He has since formed his own company, Legacy Hospitality. It will be interesting to see how the glam theme fares in a hipster-heavy neighborhood with serious culinary players when it debuts on Friday." - Naomi Waxman

Brunch Brunch Brunch... I had the steak with egg and fingerling potatoes. The steak was seasoned and cooked to perfection. Chicken and waffles were delicious as well it came with cute little bottles of hot honey sauce and syrup. For an appetizer we tried the deviled eggs topped with Bacon. It was a great portion and very good. Great customer service from front to back. I will definitely be back. I heard there's a DJ on Fridays and Saturdays as well. Oh and I added the cute phone in the restroom lol

Google
Great place for brunch. I got the lobster and waffles which was amazing. The waffles are more of a funnel cake batter so sweet and with the crispy crunch fried lobster tail the combination was really amazing. The service was okay, considering the price range of the restaurant I kinda expected more. There were at least two occasions where our waitress disappeared and we had to ask other waiters/hostess to get our waitress. Other than that the food and atmosphere were really nice. We were able to sit outside on the patio and enjoy the lovely weather. If you are looking for a place to brunch this is the place to be! Also they have valet for $15 but I was able to spot hero close by for $7 so check that out if you plan on driving!

I've been here a handful of times. To begin, the service was great as always. Our server, Terra, was spectacular. Secondly, the vibe and atmosphere is more upscale then the spots I usually go to. It's visually appealing! Lastly, the food tastes fresh and is the meat is cooked to the correct temperature! Overall, I recommend coming here and ordering a mimosa tower! Photos below: 1. Steak frites 2. Bbq wings 3. Inside view 4. Outside view 5. Margarita 6. Mimosa tower

Google
We have been to the Whale 3 times now. First time was for brunch and it was delicious and quite the party vibe, but also packed and slower service because of how busy it was. So we decided to try dinner the next couple times and thoroughly enjoyed our time there! Service was great, food is delicious, as are the cocktails. Our favorite is the southern fried chicken sandwich & fries with garlic aioli! Yum

Kelly is a slam dunk waitress and amazing vibe provider! See her when you hit this spot. The steak frites is NOT to be missed! Carrot cake lovers would also gnaw off their ankles to get a bite of this one. Well done.

Google
This is a really cute brunch spot, perfect for a brunch with the girls. The food was pretty average. We ordered the deviled eggs which had an overload of mustard, however, the shrimp grits and chicken sandwich were good. The chicken sandwich was tasty but I had to ask for lettuce because it did not come with anything else besides pickles, chicken and the bun.

Google
Loved this place so much! Cool vibe, great in-door/out-door space. Went there for brunc and the food was outstanding. We had the avocado toast and shrimp and grits. Also, try the mimosa tower. The cocktails were fantastic. This is definitely going to be my go-to brunch spot this summer.

Google
The Whale Chicago's brunch is a standout with its lively vibe, great tunes, and diverse crowd. Indulge in their mouthwatering lobster rolls, juicy chicken wings, and scrumptious crab cakes. The chicken and waffles are a delight, and the steak and eggs are a must-try. Elevate your experience with their famous mimosa tower and an array of delicious drinks. It's the ultimate brunch destination!

Yelp
In a word: Kennedy. Literal the best bartender to create the best experience for our Sunday funday. We had a sober friend with us and Kennedy went above and beyond to make sure he felt just as included: shaking up his canned cold brew and serving like an espresso martini. I INSIST you RUN to the whale!!!

Taleah T.

Yelp
4.4 Stars Food ordered: Lobster Tacos, Buffalo cauliflower, cherry habanero bbq wings, lamb chops, fish sandwich, pimento mac & cheese. The wings fall off the wing. The fish sandwich is delicious and solid. The Lobster tacos are great. The service was good. Very cute atmosphere.

Yelp
I lived down the street when The Whale first opened and my boyfriend and I were here nearly every week. We loved the spreads (pimento, french onion, and Louisiana Hot (which is no longer on the menu)) We thought they had the best chicken sandwich in existence and I always get excited about their circulating frozen cocktails. When the place opened, I would have given 5 stars. It was fairly priced, the owner would come around to chat, they have my favorite decorated bathrooms in the city. And the atmosphere is unique and flirty. However, I'm writing this now to say that I no longer desire to come anymore, especially for brunch. They're always busy which is good, but when you can even get a table, the music is SO LOUD that you can't hear your friends talking. They used to turn up the music at nighttime which was fine, but I personally don't want "club brunch" on a Sunday afternoon and that's really turned myself and my friends away. I also don't recall the spreads being $25 which seems too overpriced to get now like we always used to do. If they turned that price down lower along with their music I'd likely become a regular again.

Yelp
Really great place to eat and have drinks during the summer. It has an indoor outdoor feel with the windows open. They play club songs and there's a really fun vibe. There's a lot of food options, from crab rolls, to burgers, to lobster tacos, and brunch options. My favorites included the spreads: the French onion, Brie, pimento cheese, the tomato chutney, and the roasted red pepper. The bread with the spreads was buttered and soft. The lobster tacos had a crispy shell that paired well with the tangy mango salsa. I do wish they had more pieces of lobster in the taco though. My boyfriend got the chicken and waffles and the waffle was crispy and sweet. The chicken was tender and juicy. Our waitress Brie took really good care of us. We were a table of 10 people and there were no issues with our orders. They do apply an automatic 20% service fee to the bill though. Definitely give them a visit if you're in the Logan Square area.

Yelp
I think I died and went to brunch heaven... I would def bet on this spot Holy moly we didn't drink but you would have to have a whales belly to finish that mimosa tower. Looks to be a great brunch drinking spot. Let's talk about the atmosphere. This is what you want a brunch spot to be. Beautiful vibes and the cutest bathrooms! Service was top notch ! The food was divine. Lobster waffles with the cutest syrup bottle - yes. Cute and delicious. Blueberry skillet I will dream about. Why am I not back here today ?!? Pro tip- go!

Lana T.

Yelp
I recommend this place because it's family friendly and pet friendly. They have a wonderful brunch menu on Saturdays and Sunday. The ambiance is amazing and the service was top notch. I really enjoyed their chicken and waffles which came with a small tube of syrup and hot sauce. The presentation was amazing. I also had their cherry mule as a mock tail but you can get alcohol in it as well. The place was great for a girls brunch day.

Mary D.

Yelp
We had a great date night here on Sunday! The inside decor was definitely old Las Vegas and there was plenty of comfortable seating. I had a delicious Cali lime salad and sweet potato fries and my husband really enjoyed his fried chicken sandwich. The music was a bit loud so it was a little hard to hear eachother but it was a fun spot for a night out!

Brianna A.

Yelp
First time going and will definitely be returning! Not only was the food great, but the service was even better! The amount of food we got for the value was great, and they have a pretty robust GF menu. For anyone going: the Moroccan Turkey Burger is amazing!

Divya V.

Yelp
My friends and I recently tried The Whale for brunch on Sunday! We got lucky with a table as it was Easter day and most brunch places were blocked out. The Whale is located in Logan Square and has a lot of seating space - they have booths, high stools, bar chairs, plenty of space to even accommodate large parties. They offer the entire menu even during brunch which was great and have a lot of vegan options. We ordered BBQ Jackfruit sandwich, steamed broccoli, Chicken Waffles, Shrimp Grits, Plain Waffles and Scrambled eggs. The food was delicious. We also ordered an Aprerol Spritz, Bellini and Coffees along with our food. The taste was amazing! For desert, we all shared a Carrot cake and it wasn't dry and had good sweet taste from carrots, wasn't over-sweet. We observed that the menu also served Mimosa towers for a very reasonable price for brunch. What we loved about this place was its quick and seamless way of paying the bill via a QR code which is placed on your table. Everything was just so quick! You can surely check out this place for their wide range of food and drinks options.

Yelp
The Whale stands out with it's incredibly fine, luxurious, interior design filled with decadent gold trim throughout. There are a few items that stand out from the food menu but there are a few misses here too. If it wasn't for the service, this would probably be closer to 3 stars. The manager was very attentive to listening about my concern and offered gracious customer service along the way. LOBSTER TACOS: It's definitely worth a try! They're small, but packed with flavor. It didn't feel like there was a lot of lobster meat on it, but rather the fresh toppings. It was a good, snappy, savory, and acidic bite with each taco. BACON DEVILED EGGS: Definitely worth a try! Delicious, fluffy, flavorful, exactly what you'd expect out of a deviled egg bite. BROCCOLI: Can't go wrong with butter and parmesan over your broccoli. Fresh, and well made. PIMENTO MAC N CHEESE: This was A1. A grand slam. So cheesy, fluffy, and spicy all-in-one. You must get this! STEAK FRITES: It's fine, but nothing exceptional. The butter? Very good. The strip steak didn't feel like the highest quality of meat. Fries? Phenomenal. Putting it altogether? It felt like 3 separate components and nothing extremely cohesive here. Preferably, each portion should either individually stand out or have a cohesive sauce to bind it altogether. KOFTA RIBEYE: This one threw me for a loop. This sounded like a dream... Nope. The smell and taste of this one was so far fetched for me, I can't recommend this. It left a mouth taste that was less than favorable and honestly, I couldn't stomach to finish it after two bites. Unfortunately, I had to share that with their team/Manager and they were gracious enough to replace it with another Entrée. Thank you! FRIED CHICKEN: Super crispy, well done. Just a classic well made. If you're feeling Fried Chicken, you cannot go wrong here.

Yelp
After two of my best friends came down with Covid, we had to scramble to make alternate plans for my birthday dinner and fortunately The Whale had a reservation that worked. We started with the three spreads: creamy French onion, pimento and brie, almond, tarragon. All three were delicious, and the toast was the perfect size and texture (plus there was enough of it!) but the French onion was definitely the standout. For dinner, we shared the dry aged tenderloin sandwich which was cut and cooked perfectly for a sandwich - meaty but not too thick to bite through properly with the bread etc. Since it was my birthday, we also had the devils food cake which was really fantastic - the nutter butter crisps, sea salt and the evoo drizzle really elevated it beyond a typical dessert. And sparklers for celebration! Service was excellent as well.

Yelp
Came here for drinks and good times Drinks. I had a Moscow mule and it was delish. They have a cherry option which I'm sure is equally as good. My bf had an old fashioned and he enjoyed it. It was quite good and smooth. Deviled Eggs were sooooooo good. Parrish pie was super sweet but soooooo good. Get more cream on top. It's sooooooo yum

Nancy V.

Yelp
Ambiance- very cute place. They had the windows open and the weather was beautiful. A good place for hanging with friends or date or brunch. Parking can be difficult to find. The drinks were on point. We didn't get the tower but will like to try it next time. The buffalo cauliflower was really good with the sauce. The avocado toast bread was a little harder than I would like. The BBQ jackfruit sandwich had a good balance of sauce and not too saucy. The blueberry muffin iron skillet was really good. It was a pretty good portion. A good size to share. The Sinaloa fish sandwich was good too. The outside was crispy and juicy on the inside not too dry.

TheMadoWhite ..

Yelp
Food was alright and over priced for no experience. It just looks cute but nothing else.

Yelp
First time at The Whale. Met some friends for a happy hour cocktails and some dinner. Ribeye cooked to a perfect med rare as requested. Not quite as tender as expected but the flavor made up for it. Wife ordered lamb chops and I glanced over to witness her with bone in mouth getting every last bit of lamb ...must have been delish lol. Appetizers were good, lobster tacos were tasty with a lil kick and the deviled eggs were just like mom used to make only tasty (sorry mom). Only downside was the noise level. Music was loud causing everyone to raise the convo and making it difficult to hold a conversation. My voice actually got horse by end of dinner and that never happens. Service was on point and price was a little high but ok for the quality of food. We had a "whale" of a time here.

Aimee S.

Yelp
I 100% recommend their happy hour. It runs from 5-7pm. They have various options of food as well as $8 cocktails. I got the $15 burger and fries and while the burger was a little too salty to me it was overall very good, 9/10. I also had the north of Havana and the regular fries, 10/10. The ambiance is very elegant and great for a girls night. However what truly made this spot 5 stars for me was the amazing service. Our waitress was kind, understanding, and attentive. I do not take great service for granted and would definitely return. Please note. This review is based solely off their happy hour menu and prices. I have yet to return for their regular priced items.

Yelp
Short Review: This place is cool and trendy AF. I mean look at it. Music is a touch too loud for brunch -maybe I'm just getting old. They also have outdoor seating always a plus. The food is excellent. Highly recommended. Five Stars* with an asterisk. Full Review: The dolled up smoke salmon is the best one I've had. The bed of pressed Italian bread it's sitting on is perfect as opposed to say a bagel. Love the trimmings placed on the side for you to decide. You know what's better than chicken & waffles? Nothing- we had the lobster and waffles. The waffles were excellently crispy, the maple and hot sauce was in this too cute syrup container . The only thing is with all that batter, chicken would have been just as good without the 50% up charge. It still fabulous mind you, just get the chicken and save the money. Our guest from L.A Carlyn M let me taste her shrimp and grits, pimiento Mac and cheese and Lobster roll. Without hesitation I would get the lobster roll again. If your a tourist the occasional L will remind you you're in Chicago. The place is pricey even without the mandated 20% gratuity* (some issues with that-our server eager was not). I get it though just look at this place! P.S even the bathroom looks nice!

Mo J.

Yelp
Loved everything about this place! Food and drinks were amazing. Music was on point! Vibe was hittin!

Nicole M.

Yelp
Great food a bit pricey but overall love this place. Service A plus. Great place for girls brunch.

Aditi S.

Yelp
Came here for drinks before dinner and we had such a great time. The Whale G&T and espresso martinis were excellent. The interior was decorated so nicely and our service was great! Our server even brought out a fun birthday shot for my sister. We didn't order any food but the menu looked very promising. We'll definitely be back!

Leo T.

Yelp
Very good. We ordered the large mimosa. Then everyone at the table decided that they only wanted two glasses, which left me to finish it. For that reason I don't remember many details about the food other than everyone enjoyed their dish. Service was great, and the mimosa was very tasty. No hangover.

Sydney M.

Yelp
This place was absolutely amazing! Right when you walk in, the environment is so unique and somewhat fancy without also being TOO fancy. The waitress we had was super friendly and was great all around. We started with their spreads and bread, definitely get the French onion spread. I got the BBQ jackfruit sandwich which I have never had before. The sauce was great and the bread was big and not soggy. I think my favorite part of the meal was the pimiento Mac and cheese . I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for good food on a higher up scale.

John O.

Yelp
This place had an amazing Happy Hour. Prices were super reasonable and food was excellent. Had oysters, lobster tacos and deviled eggs. Everything was wonderful. Staff were fun and very nice. Would go back over and over. Drinks were also fantastic, old fashioned was top notch!

Ariana W.

Yelp
Ordered the turkey burger for delivery . The bag wasn't sealed. Turkey was bland and had a weird string of fat embedded in it.

Daniel G.

Yelp
Expensive. Neat Vegas decor. Friendly staff. Super bathrooms. Large drink menu. Classy place.

Nisha B.

Yelp
Came here with some friends for a big dinner. We literally ordered every other thing on the menu. Plates are large enough to share with others. The Bathroom was vintage!! It was a selfie haven!! :) Drinks were quick and strong. The food was delicious and also came out in a quicker manner than we expected, for like 15 different plates to the table We were a party of about 7 and we had at least 2-3 people serving our table We were never empty a glass or short a utensil or any needs Found street parking. The sides of the restaurant opened up to the outside it was a beautiful day!! You can hear and see the train a short distance from the restaurant I would Love to come back !

Brenda H.

Yelp
Had brunch here today with 5 girlfriends. We ordered drinks (and coffee) I had a black cherry mimosa, tart and tasty! They do NOT have decaf coffee, or any specialty cappuccinos or anything, you get caffeinated coffee, or nothing. We started with an order of the "spreads", and your favorite was def the red peppper, followed by the creamy French onion. I had the avocado toast, and the portion was huge. I was lucky enough to get street parking, for only $5, nearly right in front of the restaurant. Is for back and try dinner!

Kellie G.

Yelp
It's very welcoming and lively. I really enjoyed my brunch. The atmosphere was good. The crowd was good and so was the food. Let's not forget the drinks. Ahhhmazing!

Yvette J.

Yelp
Stopped by The Whale for Saturday Brunch and was not disappointed. We arrived around 1 with no reservations and were immediately seated. Service was prompt and friendly, the decor was luxe little mermaid meets old school Hollywood lol super cute vibes and great music playing (not at a deafening level). We tried a bunch of dishes such as Cali Lime Salad, Ceasar salad, lobster and waffles, smoked salmon board and lobster tacos. The food was great! Standout was definitely the lobster and waffles and that hot honey syrup to match! For drinks we tried the Mermaid Water which was a fun tropical drink. Overall I give this place 8.5/10 and would def recommend!

Natosha M.

Yelp
A celebration was in order this particular day. I love going to the Whale. It's so glamorous and elegant. Walking in you see a grand chandelier, it's breathtaking. My party and I were seated but we sat near the door. It was a nice day in Chicago but the temperate began to drop and the wind blew directly on us. We asked to be mover and luckily we got to keep our same waitress. Our server was super sweet and prompt with our orders. We started with a round of drinks. We ordered lemon drops to get the party started. One thing that was a bit upsetting was that my glass was dirty. Full lip prints and lipstick on my glass. But I sent it back and my waitress brought me another drink. I ended up ordering the lobsters tacos also. They are always my fave to order. I wasn't too hungry but I wanted something light. This was perfect. It filled me up but I wasn't stuffed. We ended up having a good time.

Leah B.

Yelp
The perfection of both the lamb chops and the pressed sushi appetizer was enough for me to want to come back again. Beautiful presentation, deep flavors. Both of these dishes were remarkable. I highly recommend them. The decor and different spaces are all stunning, including the bathroom stalls (adorable young person taking selfies in the mirror by the door included). The lobster tacos were so acidic, everyone's mouth puckered. They are served in mini hardshells that were delightfully crunchy, but the entire thing cracks apart so if you wanted to eat more after the first bite, you had to crush the remainder up on your plate and eat it like taco salad. The warm spreads were spectacular, and again, the lamb was so tender and flavorful, perfect temperature-kudos to the chef. We also got the fried chicken entree, which was also fantastic and quite a generous proportion. It came with a sweet/spicy sauce in a mini squeeze bottle so you could douse your chicken or use a lighter hand. When we were first seated, a person we assumed was our server came by to greet us and said that they would come back with water and to take our drink order when they got back. We had been seated for twenty minutes at that point, so when a second person came over to tell us they would also come back with water, we were pretty hungry and asked if we could just order drinks and appetizers with them, which we did. About five minutes after that, a runner finally came over with water, our actual server came over to greet us and confirmed we'd placed an order for drinks and apps with the first person who had greeted our table. At that exact moment, someone else dropped off the lobster taco appetizer and we were assured our drinks would be arriving shortly. Drinks were dropped off a few minutes after we'd started with the tacos. I'd give this place another shot, though. It was a funky start to the experience, but it was a Friday night, and they were slammed.

Faheem A.

Yelp
Wow wow wow! I have heard of this place soooo many times but have never been moved enough to go check it out. Well tonight was the night. Enjoying a boys night with my friend, we decided to give this place a try since we were in the area. After walking, in, I was immediately wowed by the ambience, you could tell that the owners had taken time to creatively design the space. We were seated at a two top and the service was I would say a 3/5 mainly because there were a couple of servers assisting us so we didn't know who to really ask for anything from. We didn't let this ruin our night order two drinks one being, 'Bout Figgin Time, this cocktail was amazing my friend ordered Everybody's Pal, which was a Mezcal Tequila drink. It was very fruity with a hint of smokiness. For food, my friend ordered the Steak Frites which he inhaled. Literally were gone within 5 minutes of getting it. I ordered the Fried Chicken. Never did I expect the chicken to be that good! It had me drooling.

Yelp
After moving to Logan square 2 years ago, it has been a little difficult to find good spots to frequent with a 3 year old, but Whale never disappoints. They are always overly accommodating and very patient with us. There's no kids menu, but they will make the fries with no seasoning which is always a hit. Tonight we had Emily as our waitress-what a treat! She was always a step ahead and we truly felt so taken care of. I know good service is really tough to find right now, but the Whale knows how to do it! We never have an issue. Not to mention the food is great! The burger, chicken sandwich, lobster tacos all are stars. Thanks for another great meal!!

Lisa P.

Yelp
Such a lively spot for brunch and more. Make reservations please. Our server, pregnant with twins walked and worked her butt off. She was so sweet, fast and efficient. Love trying lots of new items when it's my first visit. So glad I did, everything was fresh and delicious. The drinks were really good too.

Laura A.

Yelp
The ambiance of the restaurant is nice but I give the food 3.5. I had deviled eggs for an appetizer it was ok but I had better it was really cold. The lamb chops was average to me compared to others I have tasted. The Mac and cheese was good relating to flavor but it wasn't my favorite. The service was excellent!! This place is good for a good for drinks I would say I would definitely come back for the amazing drinks!! Also they add 20% gratuity automatically to your bill.

Nick S.

Yelp
Been here twice had the burger and the avocado toast. Both were extremely good especially the burger. Fun atmosphere and decor and service is top notch!

Shirley P.

Yelp
Adding steak to my salad was not a wise choice as the texture resembled overcooked beef that had been seared. The lobster tacos, fish sandwich, and salad were all delicious and perfectly harmonized. As for the service...

Denyce M.

Yelp
If you are looking for a quiet intimate place to have a quiet conversation with friends and loved ones, this ain't the joint for you. But if you are looking for a good time with good food and dancing in your seat, this is the place for you. The Whale has that Vegas over the top feel about it, all glitz and glitter with loud AF music playing and I love it. Yeah there have been times when we had to yell to hear each other but the overall vibe is one that makes me very happy every time I have been there for brunch. They have a lovely patio area, which I am guessing is quieter, but can't vouch for that. But it looks nice and there is plenty of space. Service every single time we have been there has been on point, with servers being attentive and constantly checking up on us. If I had a complaint, it would be that some of the tables are too small surface-wise if you order the way we do and could be crowded when drink's and food comes out. We once got seated at a high top table due to a mix up in our reservation and that was not fun as we had to consolidate food on plates to have room for all four of us. On to the brunch selections. Lobster or Chicken and Waffles is a winner! Both are seasoned well and the breading is not too thick. The portion is huge so don't plan on finishing it, or least I didn't. That is probably because I paired it with the Blueberry Muffin Skillet with a lemon curd sauce. That was so good and again, there is a generous portion in the skillet, with plenty to share with the table. And while it is normally not my thing for breakfast, the Red Quinoa Bowl was pretty good. It came with sausage, over easy eggs, avocado, walnuts, feta cheese and a lime vinaigrette. The Whale offers individual mimosas for $7, but you can also get a kit for $65 that includes a bottle of Domaine Chandon Brut and and several juices. Personally I recommend getting a bottle of prosecco for $44. I have discovered too much orange juice makes me full, so I prefer to just have bubbles. The Whale also does Mimosa, Sangria, Moscow Mule, Gina and Tonic and Bellini Towers. Not sure how many people it serves but it looks impressive. Their table service options are actually not bad price wise. When I ordered the prosecco for $44, there was a mini show that was put on for the delivery. One server brought the bottle over while another was behind her holding sparklers, waving them in celebration. That had me in stitches. I love that they have a live DJ spinning tunes. On one occasion I got up out of my booth to dance with a woman from another table to Kool and The Gang....good times, working off calories and getting in some steps on my Fitbit. So if you are looking for some good eats and shaking your groove thang in your seat, this is the place for you.

Yelp
We came to The Whale on a Thursday night and it was still quite busy. It's a beautiful restaurant with wonderful interior design. It was the first time I had seen TV screens on the heads of each booths which was pretty cool! Personally, I wasn't crazy about the food. We ordered the Sinola Fish Sandwich ($15), Pimento Mac n Cheese ($7), Lobster Tacos ($18), and Baltimore Crab Rolls ($26). The fish sandwhich was solid and great with extra tartare sauce. The tacos and rolls were weird for me. Way too fishy. I did enjoy the pimento mac and cheese which had this great crunchy bread topping. The drinks were great though! I believe I got the Havana which was strong and well made. Service was excellent! Some hits and misses. I'd definitely come back for the drinks!

Yelp
The whale is an amazing brunch vibe. The food and drinks are good and it's a whole vibe there on the weekends for brunch

Yelp
My recent visit to The Whale left me with a positive impression of their offerings. The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the Steak which was cooked to perfection. The meat was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor, making it a delightful choice for any steak lover. Accompanying our meal, we enjoyed a couple of refreshing drinks (Cherry Mule) from their well-curated menu. The variety of options available ensured there was something to suit everyone's taste. The drinks were expertly crafted and complemented the flavors of our meal wonderfully. The ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The staff members were attentive, providing excellent service throughout our dining experience. They were knowledgeable about the menu and offered helpful recommendations when needed. Definitely will recommend, and they will see me soon for those Cherry Mules!

Yelp
The aesthetics are beautiful and the food is delicious! My server Ilana was so friendly, prompt, and fun! She did a great job taking care of us. I loved how all the staff help each other at this restaurant. The only thing I found a bit annoying was people trying to come to grab and take the plates away before we were even done with our food. I felt I was being rushed out of there. Like my date said if the phrase was reworded it would be a better experience. Instead of saying can I grab your plate it could be addressed like is there anything I can grab or take away. Delivery is really important. The staff kept continually trying to take the plates when there was still food. The rest of the night I grabbed my cocktail with two hands and held it because I didn't want that to be taken or for me to feel like I had to rush it down. What happened to mindful eating?

Yelp
When custom restive meets good food you have The Whale Chicago! I had the pleasure of working with Alanis in the bar area while dining on Saturday, she was patient and energy. I wanted to highly light how we ordered crab rolls that I didn't care for, they were yummy but just wasn't what I wanted at the time. She took the time to send her manager Kayla over to correct things for me. They way they handled it was timely, very professional and extremely heart warming. The substituted crab cakes were utterly amazing

Yelp
The Whale is kind of Chicago spot I say is "trying too hard" and everything about this place is aggressively River North but somehow misplaced in Logan Square. Is that a cranky opinion? Yep. But I've got reasons. Here they are: The vibe and decor is intricate but it's almost has the theme park quality--if it can be gold and shiny it is. Crystal chandelier, tufted blue leather... like from a set. The photos in the men's bathroom are of the "women are sex toys" vibe. Frat bros may love it but I'm wondering if the women heading to the other bathroom would love knowing the objectification theme. Count me as a man that doesn't. This is badly done and should be changed. Service was excellent if overbearing--at once stretch we had 5 checkins / conversation interruptions in 10 minutes. However, individual staff were warm and on point. Ignore the beer taps you see behind the bar: we were told they are not used and The Whale does not serve any draft beer. This is like telling wine folks they only serve box wine. Sigh. Instead they served overpriced (relative to average beer charges in nearby restaurants) cans, and served my saison in a beer koozy. I get that this may be more a boozy slushy clientele, but we lost me at this point. In Chicago I expect some basic beer etiquitte. Bud Light service style was a mismatch for the environment and the beer. Food was very good--fried chicken was a large portion and didn't disappoint: crunchy and salty. Mac & Cheese had that pimento tang it promised. Steak sandwich has some raw luxury to it. Some of this is opinion on style, so I get others will like the place better than I did. But if you enjoy a nice craft beer and don't want sexualized pics of women in your bathroom, this isn't your spot.

Yelp
The Whale in Logan Square effortlessly combines great ambiance with fantastic cocktails and food. The laid-back atmosphere makes it a go-to spot for a chill night out. The attention to detail in both the drinks and the food, coupled with the welcoming vibe, creates an experience that's both comforting and enjoyable. It's a place where you can savor their tasty cheeseburger and fry combo while soaking in the cool vibes of Logan Square.

Yelp
Found The Whale trending on Instagram. Loved the look of this place. I wasn't sure if food and drinks were going to be good as aesthetically pleasing places sometimes don't necessarily have good food. However, the ambiance, food, drinks, and service was good. The menu, however, was paper based and was a bit dirty. Dining for Sunday brunch at 11, I entered at a good time when it wasn't a full house. With live DJ, music was on point. I ordered obligatory The Whale G & T for its pretty colors. It was pretty good. I preferred my 2nd drink, Something For More. I ordered Shrimp and Grits. It was on the drier side and I wanted a bit more andouille sausages. Shrimp portions were generous. By the time I was ready to leave, more people were coming in and it was getting packed.

Yelp
This place had been on my bucket list for a long time! I finally came for a saturday 11AM brunch with no reservation and surprisingly didn't have to wait. We ordered the mimosa kit the juices it came with were very good. I ordered the lobster and waffles; the lobster was really good, I had never had it fried before. The waffles were pretty plain, needed a bit more flavor in my opinion. I felt the syrup could have been a bit sweeter. I also surprisingly enjoyed the little arugula salad it came with. The eggs and potatoes were perfect! The eggs were well seasoned and fluffy. The potatoes were crispy on the outside and also well seasoned. Would definitely come back to try new stuff. The staff was very friendly and the service was very quick!

Yelp
Fantastic experience from beginning to end. Alexis and Fatima were warm and welcoming. Kelly was an absolute delight and her recommendations were on point! The service was impressive, multiple people checked in (including Mgr Sam) overall everyone was very attentive. They made you feel like you were the only person in the room. Food and cocktails were dElicious!!!!! Highly recommended!

Yelp
Top notch! Was here celebrating an anniversary with my book club and everything was stellar! The ambiance is beautiful, the food is flavorful. Our server was attentive. When I made the rese I asked the manager to put a special sign on the table commemorating our anniversary, she did it and it was perfect!! Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Two words Steak Frites. Some of the best steak I've had in years and undoubtedly the most tender. It literally melts in your mouth. I wasn't crazy about the cocktails, seems to be a theme here in Chicago but overall great experience.
