Where to Eat Ramen in San Diego

"Chef and owner Davin Waite is known county-wide for his creative, low-waste, unorthodox sushi creations but he also has a spot called The Whet Noodle. Head to Oceanside for ramen dishes with creative twists like fish tonkatsu, a creamy fish broth dish featuring a fish of the day." - Darlene Horn

Where to Find Vegan Ramen in San Diego - Eater San Diego

"Adject to their sushi flagship Wrench and Rodent, Davin and Jessica Waite’s The Whet Noodle helps capture kitchen scrap, converting them into the base for their selection of ramens. A gently hot and sour broth fills the Hangry Vagan where vegan spinach noodles bob below with three slaps of crispy tofu. Pink pickled radish break through the surface while scallion, burnt cabbage, bean sprouts, and shredded wood ear mushroom finished out the bowl." - Kelly Bone

Great food and good service, gluten-free friendly! At this restaurant, you order at the counter and seat yourself, the servers will bring the food to you. The chili Chicken was very flavorful, but could have been spicier. Lived their make your own ramen option, the gluten-free noodles and fish broth with pork was delicious! Sake was good too! Would recommend for a quick and tasty dinner at a good price.

It was our first time here. We asked for suggestions. They told us the duck with the duck broth and to add garlic chips and roasted carrots. It’s a counter service place. The dish tasted burnt and we barely touched it, but since we also paid for it already, we were stuck paying a lot of money for a bowl we did not enjoy. We also ordered the cucumber salad. The cucumbers that were on the salad were lightly dressed and tasted good. But the rest of the salad had no dressing or flavor and was just a bunch of herbs that we didn’t eat. The one plate that we did enjoy was the beef teriyaki plate, but it only came with 4 small slices of beef. All in all it was in the middle of dinner rush and the place was empty on the noodle side but packed on the sushi side. If it weren’t for the sushi place being connected to this place, I’m not sure how it stays a float.

Order at the counter and have a seat. You'll be given a number. I had a glass of wine and Ramen and Tupac had the Fried chicken idk what they call it but I would say karage and lastly the cucumber salad which is nishime on greens. I ordered the adobada ramen. The broth was meh. Like a sweet mushroom broth and nothing like a pork broth unless the spices they added was all sugar. The chicken was delicious and the sauces (spicy chili and the ones on the table) were all good. Overall, I would return again but not for the NON traditional ramen as some said in their reviews. I say it was not fatty pork broth but more mushroom sweet broth.

The service was disorganized at the front desk. But after they gave us the table everything was good. Food good. The salmon sashimi was good and beautifully served. Service was really polite. I think is overpriced but it was a good experience. Dog friendly !

What a great find, small place, super friendly and helpful staff, good pricing and the best part is they have numerous choices for vegetarians. And not boring veg choices, healthy and creative choices. The Whet noodle is very cool place, located not far from the beach. Entrees we choose, were very satisfying and enjoyable. My personal entree was fish of the day (yellow tail), very good combination of the sides of baked potato and rice with the fish, not too salty, just perfect. I’m glad we discover this small restaurant because we’ll be back. Patio and whole decor are pairing nicely with menu that’s mostly offering fish and seafood.
