White Swan

"Having started life as a traditional village pub, the White Swan now has a contemporary dining pub feel. Local produce is showcased on menus which evolve in line with the seasons, and some dishes are served by the chefs themselves. If you're after an even more personalised experience, the former snug is now a Chef’s Table." - Michelin Inspector

Honestly one of the best chef's table /tasting menu I have ever had. The service was impeccable, perfect portions, perfectly spaced out, amazing wine pairings. Not a single complaint.

We have visited the White Swan on a number of occasions now. Every single visit the food has been excellent, the staff are always friendly and happy to answer any questions you have, if they aren’t sure they quickly return after asking kitchen staff. We’ve also been a couple of time with our new born baby and they have always accommodated a table with access for our pram no issues at all. Our latest visit was Mother’s Day, the food exceptional and the complimentary glass of fizz was a lovely touch.

A lovely experience. My partner and I came for the taster menu, the food was delicious, the staff were outstanding and very pleasant. A really nice atmosphere in the place, rather intimate and relaxing. Will be back for more.

Had a lunch meal here on a Saturday. From the moment we walked in the service was great. It is dog friendly in the bar area also. Lovely building. Staff were great & service. Food was exceptional, very tasty & we presented. Menu was also great. Highly recommend & will definitely be going back.

I attended The White Swan last night for the seven course tasting menu. I loved the spacious layout of the dining area and the light decor. The staff were warm, friendly and knowledgeable and made the visit even more pleasurable. The food was absolutely fantastic and I couldn’t fault it in any way. I loved that all of the courses were extremely different but all flowed together. I will be happy to recommend to all my friends and will return.

I wouldn’t recommend visiting here. Few reasons. Firstly, we weren’t offered a drink before seating but straight to a table. When being seated (almost immediately - no host present) we were located on a table which was clearly difficult to access for two out of six of us. This meant the waitering staff struggled to access us and passed our plates over another on our table, it isn’t what you expect from a ‘tasting menu’ restaurant. Another issue we had was that there was only one bottle left of a particular wine and not enough for a glass - which is what we requested. Rather than offering alternatives, they brought the bottle and served it. No information given about the wine and placed on the bill at the end. Completely unclear about the price and no response from the staff member at the end when we queried that this was the most expensive bottle of wine on the white wine list. Unreasonable response and not what we expected from the service at a restaurant of this ‘standard’. I think the food was interesting / ok but not overwhelmingly excellent and it wouldn’t be enough to entice me to visit again.

My son booked for four of us to dine for Mothering Sunday. Unfortunately the service was not what you would expect from an establishment as expensive .We had to ask for a wine list as we were only given the drinks menu which included wine by the glass. On placing our order we were informed there were no fish cakes left as a starter , surely this should have been made known when menus were given to us. Secondly we asked about the bread portion how many to order for four , we asked would two be enough , we were advised two portions would be fine , when it arrived it was literally two small rolls we most definitely needed to order four , one each. My son ordered a side dish which never appeared, on asking the waiter he replied there wasn’t any left, we explained that it was ordered when we ordered our mains , he went to check on this and returned with the side dish saying he had found one . We had barely finished our desserts when we were informed they needed the table back in the next 15 minutes. Literally five minutes later the waiter returned to say they need the table back in the next five minutes, we informed him we had asked for the bill and was waiting for it . We still had a third of a bottle of wine left, I asked a staff member if there was any where we could sit to finish our wine , I was informed there was seating in the bar area , when I went to look for seats there were not any, I had to ask for the screw top back for the wine to allow us to take it with us . Bearing all this in mind if we had all had a starter there is no way we would have had enough time to eat three courses let alone have coffee. For what we paid I definitely feel the service and dining experience should have been better, more relaxing and less rushed.

Excited to dine at the White Swan for a birthday and wedding celebration. The setting is modern and bright, the menu seemed to offer a nice selection of foods to suit everyone in our party. When we asked about the specials we were told to read the board, there were only 3 items, surely staff could have recalled those saving us a walk to the board and taking a photo for the remainder of the table. Staff were not attentive and had little knowledge of the menu, when asked about the less common items on the menu, we were met with “I don’t know”. We were not checked on during the meal to see if everything was ok, or asked if we wanted a 2nd drink. I had the Halibut which was delicious but when I couldn’t find the crab ravioli (as per the menu) and I asked someone who questioned if I had eaten it already! I would have expected for the dish to be returned to the kitchen and remade with the missing ravioli however it was brought out on a small serving spoon. The steak was equally delicious and cooked as requested. We had to ask several times for another drink and the desert menu, by this point we seemed a burden to the staff. We asked for the service charge of £30be removed, when we explained it was due to poor service we were not met with an apology or further feedback. We will not be returning despite the food being of a great standard, the service was not to the standard you would expect.
