The Wilfred Opens as a Speakeasy in Plano | Eater Dallas

"Opened by Ryan Oruch of Sea Breeze Fish Market & Grill, this intimate cocktail lounge blends a neighborhood bar with speakeasy vibes, featuring deep banquettes, cozy couches, chandeliers, and a custom-designed bar. Entry is through a keypad in Sea Breeze’s waiting area (passcodes change frequently and are posted on social channels or printed on receipts). The drinks program emphasizes pre-Prohibition cocktails and unusual, clean spirits developed with Ryan Payne and Gabe Sanchez, alongside a luxury wine list and curated by-the-glass selections that highlight Champagne and French regions. Small plates are the focus—examples on the opening menu include pastrami-cured salmon bites, tuna tartare, and lobster fried rice—while themed nights, caviar bumps to pair with Champagne or cocktails, and a rotating schedule of vibey live local music help maintain a mellow, intimate atmosphere. A signature “Freddy” shot honors the owner’s rescue dog, with $1 from each sale donated quarterly to changing beneficiaries (the first donation goes to the Team Izzy Foundation). The space is also available for corporate gatherings, personalized dinners, and special events. It is located at 4017 Preston Road, Suite 350, in Lakeside Market in Plano, and is open Tuesday–Saturday (Tuesday–Thursday service roughly 4–10 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays roughly 4–11 p.m.), with happy hour from 4–7 p.m." - Amy Kelley

The place is really nice and it's an interesting experience to get the code, type it in, and have a secret door open for you! Inside it is nice looking and decorated. I enjoyed the food and I saw everyone else at the table finishing their plates! The drinks were good, but not extraordinary. The place doesn't take reservations and it looks like there is a limited time you can spend in there at the table. We were a large group and squeezed into 3 tables which was ok for us; however, I thought that our server was rude in the way she told us we will have to leave at a certain time. It was not that we had to leave, it was the way she addressed it! Aside from that, there was another incident when the owner was passing by in a rush and was trying to push the chairs of some of the people at the table saying "scoot-scoot" in a not so nice manner. I get that at that moment there were other people standing in the way and he was rushing for something, but as an owner.... Anyway, they were able to provide separate checks but gratuity was already added. I would recommend this place and I would come back.

I don’t go to many speakeasy’s. I’ve read about them. Contemplated them. But have always thought of something else to do. But today I decided to give Wilfred’s a go. It’s a unique place tucked away in the burbs. A speakeasy is defined by access. So in this case you actually go through the lobby of the main restaurant. Easy enough. On a Saturday late afternoon all seats weren’t filled but easy to notice that everyone was largely paired up. This is where service matters. While pretty clinical to start, there was a clear warm up. The food here is pretty solid - no complaints. But I do recommend leaving it to the bartender to “dealers choice. “ I wasn’t disappointed and my first experience was enough to say it wouldn’t be my last. Recommend a go.

Friendly staff easy to get seating if you are early. We went before 8. Great food with good variety and value to the menus all around.

We are regulars there. The drinks and snacks are very good! I recommend trying “dealers choice” I’ve never been disappointed! The story behind the name is sweet and the owner is friendly

May not be the best picture but this review is worth a read for anyone who appreciates a well crafted drink. We ended up here rather close to them closing and they still were extremely kind and welcoming. I wanted a specific liquor and the waitress said she could make me something if I was open to it. I loving crafty cocktails - accepted this offer. The drink was amazing and did not let me down. All of our drinks were 10/10. But this isn’t even the point of the review. This review is really about Jake. Jake was the manager of the bar and he took the time to come talk to us about our drinks. He was extremely passionate about what he does when it comes to creating cocktails. You don’t often meet people like Jake who care so deeply about what they do.If you stop in make sure to try his one of a kind cocktail called “Jake’s Milk”. Overall can’t wait to return here. #Scienceiscool.

My girlfriend and I have been wanting to go here for a while since they opened. We finally got to go for our 4 year anniversary. Service was great and the drinks were perfect. Atmosphere was busy but not packed where you felt overwhelmed. Thanks for a great experience. We will definitely be back to try the food!

Google
This is an update for our favorite get away! Posted some of the same pics - Very impressive Speakeasy! Atmosphere is exceptional as well as the service! Jake was managing the night we were there and he really made us feel special! By the way, the ribs are phenomenal and my favorite but everything on the menu is quality cooked to perfection!

We absolutely LOVE this place! Everything here is fantastic—the drinks, the food, and the service are all top-notch. We rave about it to all our friends, and everyone we bring falls in love with it. They really know what they’re doing! Highly recommend—10/10!

Yelp
The Wilfred, also known as Sea Breeze Fish Market & Grill, is a fantastic seafood restaurant with a cozy bar attached. You can either shop for fresh fish in their market or enjoy a meal at the restaurant. Our group of nine made a reservation for the dining area, then headed over to the Speakeasy afterward, where we entered the code provided by the staff to gain access. The food was absolutely outstanding! It's not every day that you can order nine different dishes and have every single person at the table rave about their meal. Each dish was cooked and seasoned to perfection -- we were all beyond impressed. The entire experience was top-notch, and we're already planning to return before the end of the month. If you're looking for an exceptional dining experience, look no further. I can't recommend this place enough!

Yelp
The his place was good! The meatballs were delicious. I'm not a huge fan of the lack of no beer on tap, just a preference. The service was a bit slow for a Saturday night.

Yelp
Fantastic cocktails that are better than they should be. Outstanding craft bar, with highly skilled mixologists. There are snacks available, but limited menu compared to the seafood restaurant that it is within. Make sure you check out their social media to get the code!

Yelp
This was a nice cozy speakeasy - the cocktails were good and there were quite a few food options which were tasty. We went on a weekend so it got crowded pretty quickly - a nice spot for sure. A few of us ordered some virgin drinks - those were disappointing but I don't think that would count here :)

Yelp
This place has kind of cool vibe but the service is terrible. They tried to over charge us for drinks we didn't get. When I called them out they were mad at me. It took 2 different conversations to get the check right. When they called the manager over he was just as big of a jerk. I think he forgot that he's in the customer service industry. They thought they could over charge us and we wouldn't know. Watch your receipts.

Yelp
Excellent service, perfectly dim lights for enjoying your company and the slider was delicious!

Yelp
Went here for happy hour. The food was tasty and the drinks were well priced. Think $10 for an old fashioned is not bad. This is part of the Sea breeze restaurant. The Sea Breeze has better seafood choices and better prices on their drinks for happy hour but you don't get to sit in the cool lounge. Ordered some lobster fried rice which was really good l, bar snacks which were extremely salty but still addictive, and some smoked salmon spread with a beet spread. The service was attentive and friendly. I love it when people are enjoying what they do.

Yelp
A speakeasy in Plano that really did feel like a speakeasy. You go into a seafood restaurant and that's where you can find the door to the bar and voila you are in cocktail land ! The bar is spacious for a speakeasy and even though I wouldn't say they are a huge establishment, I still felt that the seating wasn't cramped and there was enough space between tables. We grabbed the bar seats and ordered our drinks. The music was good and the people around us seemed to be all having a good time . The bartenders explained when I had questions about a particular cocktail and made me pick one that was more suitable to my preferences. The drinks were great tasting and innovative. we ended up staying for another round even though we initially came In just hoping to get one . The kitchen unfortunately was closed so we didn't get any food . The staff was friendly and kept us engaged in a nice conversation. Overall , I would say they are a good spot if you are looking for craft cocktails .

Yelp
Small intimate speakeasy located inside sea breeze fish market. I didn't realize there was a passcode you have to provide to the hostess but thank goodness my company knew the answer. Drinks were good and service is impeccable. Love their straws as it was environmentally conscious. Would come back.

Yelp
Plano, TX finally has its own speakeasy, and it's a hidden gem for cocktail enthusiasts. They offer an intriguing twist with the option to elevate your drink with a $10 caviar topping - a unique touch that sets them apart. While savoring your expertly crafted cocktails, you'll groove to modern music played at the perfect volume, striking a balance between a lively club and a cozy bar. It's the ideal atmosphere for a good time. This establishment takes a refreshing approach to cocktails, and you can whet your appetite with excellent seafood from the market while waiting for your table. Our bartender, Mia, was exceptional, guiding us in our selections and providing impeccable service. I'm already looking forward to my next visit, especially when I'm craving their delicious clam chowder alongside those exceptional cocktails. This speakeasy is a must-try for anyone in Plano.

Yelp
Nice little speakeasy inside Seabreeze seafood restaurant. Bartenders were friendly and the drinks were good. Prices are comparable to other nice bars. Decor is well done, making it feel like a cool place to be at. The only thing I'd change would be dimming the lights a little, I think darkening the room would improve the atmosphere.

Yelp
Great little speak easy with yummy cocktails and excellent service! You need to know the code if you go!

Yelp
It's wild that this super cool bar is tucked away in a seafood restaurant in Plano. It's tiny & you'll probably need to wait for a seat, but the drinks are worth it. Our night went from stopping in for one drink to three drinks each. The selection is great & there's not any typical trash well liquors to be seen. The service is very good & the drinks are perfectly mixed. The only knock we have is that some food that we wanted was sold out. That's a bummer, especially since we stopped in around 7:30 PM. It's also quite loud due to some seriously high ceilings. Other than the last few small beefs, we will definitely be stopping in again.

Yelp
Nice spot - hidden speakeasy that packed but worth the wait... I wish it stayed open later but its a great start or end to dinner with friends.

Yelp
Loved the drinks, service, and ambiance. Got the paloma and the lakeside swizzle - both strong and delicious! One thing I found inconvenient was the dark bathroom. It was difficult to see anything inside and had to turn on my phone's flashlight. Wish the place would consider adding a moderately visible lighting option for the bathroom.

Yelp
Very cool place to get a drink after a long day. The bartender was great and they'll make any drink you like. The appetizers were very tasty! I'll be back!

Yelp
Speakeasy tour continues around the DFW metroplex. My group ordered the wagyu smashburger sliders and lobster fried rice for food and I had a margarita. The lobster fried rice was delicious. The meat was soft and melted in my mouth. Note that the portion is big enough for one person. I tried one of the sliders and they were cooked and seasoned perfectly. My margarita was good too. The ambiance is perfect for a date night or a catchup with friends. Each table has their own lamp, and the lights are dim. The music was perfect and matched the aesthetics perfectly. I will definitely come back.

Yelp
I called a few days before, to get information on how to get in and I was told to come this Saturday (yesterday) before 7:30pm with the passcode and someone will help me with the key pad. When we came, I was then told that the place is closed to a private event. It would have been great if they just told me they will be closed in the first place instead of wasting my time to go there.

Yelp
What an amazing speakeasy in Plano!! Very convenient location on Preston. You can find the code on their IG account. Super cool next to Seabreeze. It was super busy on Saturday night. We popped in for a drink to check it out. The ambience was super cool, with the different seating areas. My husband and I always sit at the bar. Luckily, two seats opened at the end of the bar, because every seat was taken! The bartenders were amazing, working hard, keeping up with all the drink orders. They have a cool specialty drink menu. I tried the Pinkies Up with vodka, and it was delicious! My husband had Basil Hayden Dark Rye on a rock. All the bartenders and servers did a great job! Shout out to Diann, Mia, Courtney, John, and Emem for their great service! They have a food menu, but the kitchen had closed already, after we arrived. Will check it out next time!! Great place, great atmosphere, great service, and great drinks!!

Yelp
TERRIBLE service. The service was so slow, no smiles or thank yous at all. I wanted to get up and leave it was so poor. It was like we were an inconvenience to the waitress. My drink came with a strawberry covered in white mold. Super overpriced for service provided and quality of product. Also smells of fish since it backs up to kitchen/fish restaurant. Save your money... you can get better service at a Chili's bar.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible staff and amazing atmosphere. The food is a must try and the drinks are delicious!

Yelp
We loved this place, food was great, drinks were wonderful, service was fast, only draw back was at around 7-8pm they turned the music up very loud, we were at a small table and were having to yell just to speak to one another. We asked about it and were told they do that sometimes after happy hour. Lesson learned we will only visit during happy hour. As a suggestion it would be great to see live jazz play here. Would really add to the speakeasy experience.

Yelp
We were in from out of town on a business pleasure trip and tried The Wilfred. We had a blast!! The Ambiance Service and drinks were amazing! We'll definitely be back next trip!!

Yelp
We truly enjoyed spending New Year's Eve at this cozy little speakeasy! We love Sea Breeze, so to have The Wilfred to go to right after our dinner was a real treat!

Frank B.

Yelp
A very nice tucked away bar. We've been there once and really loved the atmosphere although it was a little loud, but that's OK when you're just out for a few drinks! We will definitely be back!

Ryan W.

Yelp
Great little spot! They make a nice old fashioned and have solid apps. The service is very good as well. Only negative, when it's busy, it's hard to hear past all the chatter of neighboring tables.

Ham J.

Yelp
Great drinks. Our waitress Mia was amazing and her service was impeccable. The speakeasy definitely had a 1900s style tone to it which felt right at home with the whole theme of speakeasies. As a tribute to Wilfred, the owner's dog, this speakeasy does him justice with the drinks and atmosphere to match.

Yelp
FINALLY! A quiet, classy bar in Plano that does NOT allow children and most of the adults were dressed nice. (Notice I'm not saying "super cool" or "awesome"? I have a vocabulary.) Usually we must go south of Northwest Hwy for this type experience. Bar staff dressed nice, well versed in their craft and excellent service. Only complaint: The door staff and owners son need to grow up. Cargo pants, tennis shoes and a backwards baseball cap belong at a sports bar - not a classy bar serving Macallan on a branded rock and French 75's with dried fruit. Buy some suits and evening dresses! Enforce a dress code! Men in long sleeves and collars, no sports shoes, no hats. (Sad this must be explained in Dallas; other cities understand etiquette.) Women usually know how to dress. No large groups - 4 max. You'll double the bar drop in 4-6 months. The place would do better standalone without the restaurant. Definitely returning but 50/50 on spilling into the restaurant. It SUCKED moving from a quiet bar paradise of classy patrons, to a brightly lit, obnoxiously loud kindergarten.
