We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday and had a delightful experience. We ordered the kimchi nachos and fried pickles as appetizers. The nachos are delicious but a tad spicy so beware! For entrees, we had the caesar wrap, french dip, pork sliders, butter chicken bowl, and drunken noodles. We all enjoyed our meals. The server (Yssa) was also super friendly and the perfect level of attentive - 10/10 on her service! We will definitely be back!

The Winchester is a charming gastro pub in downtown Grand Rapids. The staff is friendly, professional, and attentive and the food is delicious and innovative. The prices are on the higher side of middle of the road, but well worth it as the ingredients are clean, locally sourced, and seasonal whenever possible. The ambiance is whimsical and the historical brick facade is preserved for a nostalgic dining experience. We will most definitely return!

Stopped in for Sunday Brunch. Great menu choices. We picked the poutine and also the chicken and beignets. Was outstanding. Hadn't tried Brunch there before....will be heading back 😋. Great cocktail drinks as well that keep you hanging out. Great , friendly service comes with dining here. Enjoy the inside seating or stay warm on the heated 🔥 patio.

I've been to the Winchester before and haven't always been impressed by the Changing menu. However, this time I tried their take on chicken and waffles, Chicken and Beignets. It was so good, the raspberry jam with the chicken and the shaved Parmesan was delicious. It was a surprising combination of flavors, but it totally worked. Everything is made in house including the jam. I was very impressed.

What I like about Winchester is the variety of options for drinks and food. Service and atmosphere is great but this is the place to go in the relatively “boring” food scene of GR when you don’t want Americana or Mexican.

Good service, delicious food, lovely atmosphere, and happy vibes! We stopped for dinner and this place we really good - although they have very limited vegetarian options but it was good (little pricey though) I had mushroom swarma which was tasty. they have happy hours - use it - it has its own menu for beverages and food.

We had an amazing experience! There was a nearby table where a woman had a seizure, and the staff were on top of it. Calling 911, making sure the poor woman was safe, and still attending to the other patrons. You could tell that the episode weighed heavy on the hearts of the staff, and I was so touched by their compassion. Our dining experience was lovely. I ordered the fish and chips, classic, and the drink menu was stellar. Our waitress was wonderful, and kept checking back with us and grabbing anything we needed a lot of times without being asked. Thank you for everything, I will definitely be back! P.S., The Winnie Cooper was the BEST drink!

We went here for our 2nd Anniversary. Thank you normal portion sizes, lol. I was worried how little it would've been based on prices and atmosphere. We were pleased :)

Yelp
This is a great spot for a quick lunch. Very chill vibes, lovely servers, small parking lot available and on a great strip. Food was great. The menu is quite varied in like a whimsical British way, haha. The tiramisu was so creamy but didn't taste the matcha or the ginger unfortunately. Well stocked bar with basic cocktail menu. Easy-going all together. Cozy, casual.

Yelp
We brunched at The Winchester last weekend and caught the tail end of the holiday decorations up on Wealthy Street RIP Here's what we had: -Deviled eggs (and I went HAM on these, they were simply too good) -Fried pickles (big pickle spears! I love that) -Breakfast poutine (maybe my new favorite breakfast food) -Brunch smash burger (with the PERFRCTLY cooked egg) Drinks are absent from this post because it's dry january but for those not partaking, they keep the mimosas and bloody mary's flowing! It was pretty busy so service was a little slow, but it was as expected with a big group and a busy time.

Yelp
After a tough day, I headed to The Winchester for some taste food and a N/A cocktail. Their heated patio is beautiful, you can sit outside for most of the year with no issues being cold. It is a beautiful space with lots of wood and twinkle lights. The service is always nice - I've never had anything but attentive servers who make sure I am happy! Now for the food - there is medium size menu with some shareables, sandwiches and main entrees. I always go for a shareable and a salad. The BBQ shrimp is my favorite, it comes with grit hushpuppies and a creamy sauce that are absolutely delicious. This is a neighborhood staple that has consistently good food and great service. It is the perfect solution for when no one knows where to go or what they want to eat!

Lauren K.

Yelp
We got a table for 4 just walking in at 5:30 on a Saturday! Lucky! The Butter Chicken is tasty! I wish they gave a bit of a larger portion! Staff were all incredibly kind and handled being so busy well!

Jessica W.

Yelp
Really cute bar/restaurant. Dimly lit, interesting art all over and a nice outdoor patio. Food is fresh and tasty, and also plated really visually appealing. Some faves were the garlic shrimp app, truffle fries, smash burger, beef and broccoli.

Chantel M.

Yelp
Wonderful customer service, our waitress was amazing. It was a nice day outside so we could enjoy the outside seating. The inside is cool, like an old Irish pub with dark wood and a cute wall papered bathroom. We enjoyed the happy hour $5 glass of wine and a few shared plates. We had the truffle fries, lettuce wraps and kimchi nachos. My favorite was kimchi nachos because of the interesting array of flavors, textures and some spice. I would definitely come back again and would be interested in trying the French dip next visit.

Megan H.

Yelp
Delicious and great vibes! Anything I've ordered from here is amazing. The wait staff is also always friendly and attentive.

Bri K.

Yelp
Holy fast service, BatMan. We were seated, feed, and finished within 30 minutes! We added on dessert since we had anticipated it taking longer and we had time to kill before our comedy show. I had the buttered chicken and my partner had the beef and broccoli. Both were delicious but still left us a little hungry. To fill the craving, we ordered the cheesecake. Good, but the size is small for $12. We sat in their covered and heated "outdoor" space. With twinkle lights and snow falling down it felt cozy and romantic. Also learned they have a small parking lot right next door, which was great to find and snag the last spot.

Mike S.

Yelp
Fantastic spot. Super eclectic menu with delicious food top to bottom. Chili was spicy and Super flavorful. Quality cheese curds and duck egg rolls. I had the fried chicken Bahn mi and it was very good. Sampled the smash burger and butter chicken and both tasty, especially the burger which was very large for a smash patty. Great service from a funny brittish waitress who guilted me into getting 2 drinks!! Highly recommend spot.

Yelp
Another great place in Grand Rapids. Stopped in one night wanting to have some cocktails outside. The patio area is nice and quite large. My review is solely based on cocktails. We had already eaten. They do have a large food menu. I really like their cocktail offerings. They make a lot of infusions and homemade syrups. I can't remember the name of the one I ordered the first night but it was a Chamomile Simple, Thyme, Gin cocktail.. I really enjoyed it. Sadly it was gone the next time I came in. I've also had the Respect your Elderflower. Another nice cocktail. Although I didn't like it as much as the first one. Ali of the servers have been amazing. Helpful and friendly to talk with. We really enjoy the ambiance at the Winchester and look forward to returning soon. Wish they were open later.

Tammy D.

Yelp
I cannot stay away from Winnie! I had brunch last time so I of course had to follow up with their dinner menu. The food was delicious! I got the butter chicken and it was the perfect portion size for me and the chicken was so tasty! The only thing that could've been better was having garlic naan bread instead of the regular one, but that's because I'm obsessed with garlic naan. My friends got shareables of kimchi nachos, crab cheese dip and shrimp bbq. All amazing and I will definitely be back again!

Lucy N.

Yelp
The ambience is incredibly inviting, with a cozy atmosphere that instantly puts you at ease. One of the highlights for me was their weekend Bloody Mary bar, a delightful treat for those who enjoy a good brunch experience. As for the food, I opted for the kale Caesar with fried chicken, and I was thoroughly impressed. The fried chicken, reminiscent of perfectly cooked chicken tenders, was incredibly moist and juicy, making every bite a flavorful delight. If you're in the mood for classic comfort food, their burgers and fries are a solid choice. The taste is on point, and you can tell they take pride in their kitchen creations. There's free Wi-Fi available, it's an excellent spot if you need to catch up on work or simply browse on your phone or laptop. The staff have a friendly and pleasant demeanor added to the overall positive experience. The service was impeccable, making my visit all the more enjoyable.

Yelp
Stopped by The Winchester for Sunday brunch. It was crowded inside and out, with a sense of energy and excitement. Service was spotty, at best, but the food was fantastic. I got the Soba noodle salad and added fried tofu and my wife got the chicken tortilla wrap with a side salad.

Sarah S.

Yelp
Been here several times and came here for lunch with a friend on a weekday. Tried their chicken banh mi sandwich that definitely had a spicy kick to it. I liked it but only wish there was a bit more chicken to the ration of topping and bread. Great service and atmosphere as always.

Katy C.

Yelp
I counted my check ins and I've been to The Winchester at least 145 times over the past 13 years. Wow! I used to live a few blocks away, so I was a regular there for dinner, brunch, happy hour, and drinks on their patio. I don't go as often anymore, but whenever I do, I always wonder why I stopped going so much after moving further away. It's one of those spots that's consistently good. I've never really had a bad meal at Winchester, and service is usually very good. The bar is a bit dark and moody inside towards the back and always gives me Chicago vibes. The patio is completely enclosed and heated, which makes it a great spot for those early and late patio season days. They do have some designated parking spots in their adjacent lot, but they fill up quickly. Street parking nearby is pretty easy to find. The menu is a bit unique, which I love. They have great burgers and sandwiches, as well as some large plates and share items. The options change pretty regularly, but some of my favorites are the naan club (all time favorite), crispy Brussels sprouts, and the grilled chicken Caesar wrap. They also have brunch on Saturday and Sunday, a nice cocktail menu, and a short draft list. Happy hour is Monday-Friday, 3-6pm and burger night is every Monday, where you can get a drink + a burger for a deal. The Winchester is still one of my all-time favorite spots. It's like an old friend - no matter how long you go without seeing each other, it always feels comfortable when you reconnect.

Noah B.

Yelp
We love Winchester but...... To go portions are CRAZY small - butter chicken was half the size of normal and lettuce cups were laughable. Food is usually good but hard to justify the $$$$$ for the portions. Better options at home for significantly less, noted.

Jessie H.

Yelp
Had a fantastic lunch here on a Saturday! It was busy because of the mimosa bar and bloody Mary bar, but the service did not lack! our food was phenomenal. I got the Bánh mì fried chicken sandwich and it was fantastic! Loved all the flavors the heat from the chilies to the crisp, pickled vegetables! My lunch date had the naan bread club which was very good as well! we shared the crab dip for an appetizer and it was creamy and warm for a nice cold day! Will definitely be back again and again, especially for the Bánh mì sandwich!

Abigaile W.

Yelp
The food was good. We had the bbq shrimp with the grit fritters. The grit fritters were delicious. They were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. I had the butter chicken bowl, which was also good. The server was friendly and everything came out quickly.

Kristina G.

Yelp
Omg. The French dip here is unreal I dream about it. The Caesar salad is also delicious & everyone loved their entrees but the French dip won! The service was just so-so, our waitress only came around a few times to take our order and then give us the check. We also ordered the whipped feta dip and it wasn't as we expected - much thicker of a consistency. All in all, would go back for that sandwich but maybe at lunch time or just when it's less busy!

Marco D.

Yelp
I thought the cocktails were excellent, especially the earl gray mar tea ni. Unfortunately i cant say that for the food or ambiance. They had all the doors open and even though i sat inside, i was tormented by mosquitoes and had half a dozen bites by the time i left. The hot chicken sandwich was pretty average and I've had better ones at caseys convenience store that were sitting in the self-serve hot box. So a mixed bag. I'd go back for the cocktails.

Tito M.

Yelp
Matthew's service was EXCELLENT. He was attentive and was patient with our large Friendsgiving party. Will definitely be back

Jackee O.

Yelp
The Winchester DELIVERED. The service, food and outside seating exceeded expectations. It was so nice to sit outside in a heated area on a rainy spring evening. The host and our waitress were super sweet. The drinks were refreshing and the food was extremely flavorful and cooked well. & the food came out in a timely manner.

Robin O.

Yelp
All right as I ordered food from the Winchester via take out, I cannot comment on the ambiance of the restaurant. I don't know what it looks like. I haven't been there and I haven't parked there. I will say that the food that I ordered was prepared, thoughtfully and packaged beautifully. In sustainable containers with adorable stickers. The kitchen workers or servers must do a good job boxing up to go orders. I had the Kale Caesar salad, and a really yummy burger with cucumbers and goat cheese or feta on it. I don't even remember, but I was absolutely delicious and the kale salad hit absolutely perfectly late at night after a couple of gummies. (What, it's legal.) The kale salad was beautifully dressed with toasted bread crumbs and delicious cheese and I would recommend that burger to anyone! My only gripe is that the salad did not come with any type of fork.

Teri M.

Yelp
Best French dip ever. I'm still thinking about it. It made my hospital trips less painful while visiting my mom. The kale Caesar was tasty too!

Aamori F.

Yelp
The food is good and never takes too long. The servers are super friendly, like genuinely. Also they have good Shirley temples (++the bathroom is literally gorgeous)

Ashley M.

Yelp
The Winchester has always been a solid, no-risk, go-to meet up spot. Their food and drink menus are diverse for varying palettes and service is always decent if not a great experience. I recently tried their Arancini shareable with a friend for happy hour and it was tasty! The soft pretzels were only okay in my opinion.

Soos M.

Yelp
We Arrived at 3:00, Just as happy hour started. We aren't familiar with HH here and our server told us it was HH, but didn't say that what consisted of (it's special prices on beer, house wines and well drinks). Thought it might include some $ off food, but it didn't. Great outdoor dining space in addition to the spacious feeling indoor seating. Food and cocktails that we had were delightful. Our server, the afternoon bartender was charming. (BTW-Ladies rest room has been refurbished beautifully in this obviously vintage space) we'd love to return to sample more from this eclectic menu!

Emily B.

Yelp
Came in with a large group for lunch and got seated in a nice long booth/ table. The place is cute, super cozy and has a pub-feel. Food was really awesome - I got the chicken Caesar wrap. We also shared deviled eggs and the tomato feta dip.

Emily K.

Yelp
One of our local favorites! Don't skip the French Dip, it's outstanding! I would recommend subbing the chips for the fries and getting a side of garlic aioli, you won't be disappointed. I also am obsessed with the crispy brussel sprouts appetizer, and their wings are good, too. So far I've dined in twice, and done takeout twice. Super consistent quality. The only thing I didn't love was one of their mocktails, but not a deal breaker. Service is super friendly even while busy. The restaurant itself is more of a dimly lit place, and a great vibe for a date night or meetup with friends. The heated patio is my personal favorite place to dine. And I love that they have a parking lot! Bonus: They package their takeout really well if you'd rather get it to go!

Xander Y.

Yelp
Cold cheese curds on the pork chile poutine.... Interesting ..... food is trying but just doesn't click.

Joseph H.

Yelp
SERVICE: 5 FOOD QUALITY: 5 DRINK QUALITY: 5 ORDER TIME: 5 AESTHETICS: 4 NOISE LEVEL: 5 MENU SELECTION: 5 OVERALL EXPERIENCE: 4.85 We went for a late lunch/early dinner, and we were very delighted. We called ahead to make sure there was no wait because we heard this place gets really busy. We requested a table outside, but kind of regretted it after sitting down. It was super windy and pretty cold. We endured, and still enjoyed our time. Visually the restaurant looked like every other small restaurant. They did have a lot of string lights to give it that Tuscany feel on the outdoor deck. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich which came with chips. The chicken was so juicy, and the chicken was crispy. I usually find that hot chicken sandwiches are covered in a sauce and the chicken loses its crisp. The bun didn't fall apart when picking it up. The sandwich is also not that spicy, it has a great flavor. The vegetables were very fresh, and accented the flavor of the chicken very well. I personally didn't love the chips and prefer fries. Overall this place is a gem for the community. Providing some quality food with a diverse menu. I personally want to go back and try their ramen dish after seeing our table neighbor order it.

Anna N.

Yelp
We ordered a plethora of dishes here and the service was fast and attentive! This is one of the better brunch places I've been to with a DIY mimosa bar.

Austin G.

Yelp
Along Wealthy Street SE surrounded by top-rated restaurants, coffee shops and stores is the Winchester, putting a twist on American bar food. Here's why you should visit: 1) Food: The menu included bar food, but with a spin on it. For example, I ordered the biscuits and gravy. Rather than biscuits, four balls of dough came swimming in a deliciously rich sausage gravy with a fried egg on top. They also have a kids menu with a basic cheeseburger that's a crowd pleaser. For brunch, I ordered the mimosa for $3 and it didn't disappoint. 2) Space: The indoors is large, but I recommend the outdoor space. By the outdoor dining space is a green space with picnic tables and yard games like cornhole. It's first come first served, but worth it if you can get a table in the shade. 3) Service: It was attentive, patient and kind. We asked for the indoor music to be turned down so my 65-year-old dad could hear better and they were more than happy to oblige.

Michael J.

Yelp
Well butter my biscuit and call me Mr. Triscuit. My wife and I tried it and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! A good selection of drinks and the food was fantastic! It isn't a massive menu but boy are the items on it good. The outdoor area is just delightful and they even have the Barking Lot food truck area for furry friends :D. Will definitely be a returning customer to Sir Winchester. 8.9/10 :)

J L.

Yelp
Always a good experience! Their menu keeps up with culinary trends & addition of the outdoor dining provides a nice option.

Jayson D.

Yelp
Here's a local eatery that's doing the pandemic right: Limited seating, patio (or igloo!) options, plenty of space between tables, and a staff that masterfully balances the need to stay in business with a priority to prevent the spread. I've been here both before and during the pandemic. Tasty menu and drink specialties, which you can read about in the other reviews. My purpose here is to recognize Winchester's efforts to combat COVID. I've been in and out of several restaurants during the pandemic (sometimes for the one and only time), and variance abounds in observing safety regulations. It's not that these other places aren't doing it. But walking into The Winchester for dinner on Friday felt palpably different. For one, the bar counter itself wasn't jammed with stools (I wish people would police themselves, but they aren't; if you provide a stool, someone will use it). Tables were *actually* (versus placing plexiglas between adjacent booths) and *obviously* distanced. Even the outdoor seating was distanced and comfortably so. I never realized the relief it is not having to guess whether your table is in the danger zone. And of course, staff all wear masks, menus are contactless, and hand sanitizer was widely available. Nobody likes the pandemic. And we're all praying hard to get this thing behind us and to get the businesses roaring again. But to The Winchester and other GR hangouts that are doing it right: Bravo! And thank you.

Carter V.

Yelp
SLAYYYY DAYYYY. BEST FOODDDDDD. SERVICE WAS AMAZEBALLS:)))))))))))) GET THE FRIESSSSSS PLEASEEEE. FRIES WERE WELL SALTED. Lovely spot on Wealthy Street. I had a fantastic burger with goat cheese. The chips that came with it were well-salted and delicious. The Respect You Elderflower cocktail was perfect for a summer day. We sat on the patio and had great service.

Paulina Y.

Yelp
Food was good. I feel like the serving sizes are a little small, but the staff were great. Sitting outside was pleasant. Not much to write home about, but also not incredibly expensive.

Melissa B.

Yelp
Yummy!! Went at noon on a Saturday and was seated right away! They had a contact tracing form to fill out and everything was properly social distanced. The entire menu sounded delicious that it made it hard to pick what to get. The weekend brunch menu has a "mimosa bar" for only $3 each (waiter serves it to you due to covid but they have 4 options for juice!) so that was the obvious drink choice. My friend opted for the "bloody mary bar". I decided on the Cuban sandwich and it was huge and so tasty. Super satisfied with my meal. My friend said the pulled pork hash was awesome. Definitely will be coming back here to try more from the menu.

Delanie M.

Yelp
let me start by saying... i have never ordered something from the winchester that i did not LOVE. the winchester was the first place i tried in grand rapids before i moved here and when i was looking for a house, i actually set my commute destination as the winchester so that i could find a house within walking distance... and i did :) It is so hard for me to order because i really do have so many favorites. to name a few: the naan club, the shrimp curry, the french dip, the cuban, the naan brekky club...wow. i recommend fries instead of chips and sitting in the covered patio during the winter. watching the snow fall in the dim lit, warm enclosure was something i didn't realize i'd like so much. the drinks are good too. not your basic watermelon mojito or moscow mule but more elevated. i had a cocktail with cardamom once and i liked it way more than i thought i would. last time we went, my boyfriend tried a mystery beer/seltzer special for $2 that they had. i thought it was a neat idea especially for those not picky or don't know what they want. needles to say, i'm planning my next dinner and it will be the new muscles special.

Julie E.

Yelp
Pretty good burger. The fries felt like they may have been fresh cut, good. Recommend

Erin S.

Yelp
Good experience.. nice little spot ! Chicken & donuts were so yummy! We also tried the hefeweizen on tap...such a great beer!

Karen P.

Yelp
Lovely spot on Wealthy Street. I had a fantastic burger with goat cheese. The chips that came with it were well-salted and delicious. The Respect You Elderflower cocktail was perfect for a summer day. We sat on the patio and had great service.

A G.

Yelp
Everybody had an okay mean, we've had better to be honest at Winchester... but you can't always be a 10/10 - goes to show how high the standard typically is. Came in the day after new year so we weren't feeling too great may have played a role.

Marisa S.

Yelp
Had the BEST nachos of my life here! Bartender was super friendly. Had delicious cocktails. Would recommend.

David H.

Yelp
We were in town and had Winchester on the list. Amazing Burger, one of the best I've eaten. Cuban was a nicely done. Brussels and the fries perfect. Burger was a 10 Cuban an 8. Definitely coming back. Carmen was our server and she was also perfect. Pleasant and checked on us with an eye. Well done.

Mj C.

Yelp
I love Winchester and used to order the shrimp shareable that was previously called something other than "garlic shrimp", I can't remember the old name. It was my go-to meal because it came with 7 or so medium-large shrimp cooked with some cherry tomatoes and onions (I think?) and 4ish slices of some sort of toasted baguette. That dish was replaced with "garlic shrimp" and I was sad to see the change. It seems as though it's the same dish but it came with 5 or 6 small shrimp and one chunk of baguette in the middle and no additional veggies. The shrimp were overcooked to the moon and I think it's the same price. Please bring back the old shrimp shareable! Love u.

John F.

Yelp
Always GREAT FOOD & GREAT SERVICE! A great place for a date night. A talented bar staff will mix your cocktail just right as well.

Kate H.

Yelp
Started with the nachos (not in any way authentic as they contain corn, beets, radishes and pickled onions but still quite tasty. The chicken parmesean and french dip sandwiches were also quite good. Everything is very fresh and clearly made in-house. The cocktails and beer were okay but not as good as the food. This is a cute, trendy bar with some good food.
