10 Exceptional Bars and Restaurants for Live Music in Phoenix | Eater Phoenix

"Created as an homage to the revered but defunct 60s-era lounge Chez Nous, this low-ceilinged, dimly lit haven (name-checking Chez Nous owners Andy and Maureen Womack) miraculously captures its cool, retro vibe. Cocktails, named for famous singers and musicians, are reinterpreted classics, while food selections include truffle popcorn, stuffed mushrooms, shrimp cocktail, and a meat and cheese board. Local pop-ups bring new options every week. The R&B-styled Roscoe Taylor Band plays every Saturday night at 9 p.m.; DJs take over at midnight." - Nikki Buchanan

Friday night happy hour visit. Limited amount of booths and a decent amount of bar seats. Outdoor patio seating as well. Drinks were good, as well as the pretzels. The bartender was a little slow. Live music in the corner. Low lighting with adequate lamps throughout to assist in viewing menu.

Stopped by for drinks on a Tuesday night and was pleasantly surprised to find a wonderful live jazz band playing. The music added so much charm to the evening! The atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable, making it the perfect spot to unwind with great drinks and good company.

Ladies night is on Thursdays- $7 drinks. Delicious drinks and they have appetizers/snacks. Love the atmosphere with the dj and the energy of the place. Seating inside and outside. It’s opening seating on Thursday nights.

I am a disabled veteran and was visiting with a friend.I was told I would have to give up the seat I was in and stand. Mind you I told the security guard I had fractured my pelvis and legs in the line of duty and couldn’t stand long. I was as told there’s no seating for disabled people. The manager Savanah sat me at a booth at first then told me that we had to move because it was paid for . After we already spent almost $60 for food. So I had to leave.

Had such a wonderful time at this establishment on a slower Sunday night. Our bartender, Elle, was sweet, attentive, and knowledgeable. Cocktails were fantastic and well balanced! Highly recommend!

I came during the end of happy hour, it was girls night. It was semi open, the bar was completely full. I understand being busy and letting the bar tenders take their time, because it’s busy. I could also tell one bar tender was talking up and being super nice, the other one, she was just doing as she was told. I walk up to the bar, wait about 10 minutes, which I’m not complaining about because it was busy. And the one that is not talking to everyone, comes up to me, I explain, hey it’s my first time here, I’m here for girls night. I also was in the service industry so I make sure to smile and ask super nicely and be polite to all the bar tenders. She’s like it’s still happy hour, you have 7 minutes until girls night. I’m like okay, thank you. I look back at the menu. It is loud in there, but I don’t have a quiet voice, she’s cleaning dishes in front of me, I say excuse me, I believe I know what I’d like please. I’m also like 4 ft away from her. I repeat again. Maybe she didn’t hear me? But I just waited another 5 minutes for her to ask, “you figure out what you would like” which I did. And I ordered. She made the drink right away. She kept giving me rbf the whole time. And maybe that’s just her, but I noticed she did it to every single person. This was my first impression of this place, and I was over it. I had one drink and left and headed to Culinary Dropout which the service was 1000000x better.

Yelp
Such a great spot for cocktails, small bites and live music. 10/10 I would definitely come back here again.

Yelp
The Womack has lovely ambiance, live music and a nice characterize board. Check out their happy hour drinks and bites. I loved my zippy daiquiri! It is a great place for meetups.

Yelp
Stoped here for a quick drink with a friend! Everything was wonderful.. the vibes are immaculate! The deviled eggs are bomb! I'd definitely come back

Yelp
Nestled in the heart of the city, this cozy nightclub boasts charming decorations. As you step inside, you'll find a bustling indoor bar and an array of tables where you can easily place orders for delicious food and refreshing drinks. The DJ kept the night alive with a mix of classic 90s and 2000s rhythm and blues hits, which had everyone dancing on the small dance floor. Outside, there are...

Yelp
This bartender was super rude to us and treated us like an inconvenience. I will not come back to be served by someone who treats people so terribly. Zero stars will not come back if she is here.

Damon M.

Yelp
The Womack venue is very nice but......that 1st and 3rd Friday of each month with that "Roscoe & Jimmy" smh ...Don't do it to yourself lol (no disrespect to Jimmy, he has talent lol smh) .....but come on naaaaah Womack. I'm not even a complainer smh but this can't be real life. The vocals were HORRIBLE and simply disrespectful to real vocal artist. The venue itself is too nice not to simply audition or hire new talent from the Phoenix area smh the appetizers and staff were good.

Yelp
The Womack is a favorite of ours. We have been here several dozen times for happy hour over the last few years. It never disappoints. The manager is welcoming and kind and our favorite bartender, Savana, is fantastic! A recent post was shocking as it depicted her as rude. No way! She is sweet, helpful, and makes a killer drink. Dont miss the Womack! Great drinks, fabulous music, and incredible food.

Yelp
I really love The Womack. It's got a cool, upscale retro vibe. Kind of like a place James Bond would go. Music is great...they tend to have very talented, progressive musicians. Food was very good. Drinks on par with just about everywhere else in the valley. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Wylie S.

Yelp
Second time I visited and enjoyed myself both times. Great customer service, great food, and awesome ambiance. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for all 3. The evening we went included live performance from a very talented individual on the guitar and vocals. We really enjoyed the genre he performed it made for an unforgettable experience. Also had the pleasure of meeting the GM who was truly amazing with ensuring our experience was a great one. Thank you! We will be back!

Yelp
We had such a good time here! We went to the comedy night and it was so good! Jen Giralo's set was my fave. And I loved the martini! The fresh dill was a really nice touch.

Yelp
I always forget that I like coming to the Womak, I end up here about once or twice a year and it's usually when I'm driving by and remember that they have local musicians and entertainers multiple nights per week, usually about 8ish and I think, it *would be cool to stop in and see what's happening. The cocktails at the Womak are good, I wouldn't expect a spectacular cocktail, but they are good and a selection are available for $6 during their happy hours + half off snacks (4-7p Tues -Fri, 12a-2a Tues-Thurs, Sunday 4-6p). The real star here for me is usually the live music.
google avatar

D F.

Yelp
Thanks for blasting arguably the most garbage music outside and I can hear that shit in my bedroom 3 blocks away. The neighborhood appreciates it.
google avatar

Brian O.

Yelp
I stopped here for the first time last night with a couple of friends and had a blast. The drinks were delicious and strong and the music was great. Lots of old school great tunes. Staff is friendly and helpful and there's even a small dance floor. I believe it's a tribute to the old Chez Nous and definitely had a fun vibe. It's now on my list of periodic bar stops.
google avatar

Nikole G.

Yelp
Came with some girlfriends to end the night with drinks and dancing! I guess we came on the wrong night- Friday. The DJ was playing roller rink music...the quickly morphed into electronic music. When we first got there, they were serving food, so I ordered the bruschetta. Bad idea. It was sliced noble bread with pepperoni- something that my 13 year old kid brother made. I wasn't enthused with it- but I guess if you've drunk enough, and don't really pay attention to what you're eating- it would be enough. In their defense- they aren't a restaurant, so I should have known! Apparently I don't know the right nights to come dance, so, if you show up on one of those nights- have fun for me!!! I hear it's a great time!

Kymbre D.

Yelp
The Womack never lets me down. Any day of the week, this is a really nice, mature experience on almost every night of the week. Call first because they have a medley of live music and a DJ on certain nights. It's best to make a reservation on the weekends as it can get very busy and this gal does not have an outfit to match waiting on a line (just saying). I love my guy who sings on Saturday nights. He's funny, engaging, and sings all the classics. The atmosphere is very sexy and the lighting is perfect if you come later in the day after maybe brunching and could use some grace from the lighting gods. The music is reliably fun and apropos for the setting depending on which night you go. The light fair they offer is always lovely as well. The hummus plate is carefully put together, fresh and just enough to hold you over. Deviled eggs were what was to be expected, the meat & cheese platter was surprisingly exceptional for a night club and let's be honest... who doesn't love an unadulterated spinach dip?? Don't be shy, the food is awesome enough. A must go, to simply sit back and enjoy the music/live experience, or squeeze your limber limbs onto the dance floor like I always do.

Yelp
I live near Chicago and to date, this is my hands down favorite bar. Good light eats, the most crafty cocktails I've tried, and I felt very welcomed by staff. I describe this spot as classy and people dressed nicely to attend. The interior was pretty and well decorated. Live music is bonus points! When I come back to AZ I must visit this spot again!
google avatar

Adia C.

Yelp
The Womack is a nice chill spot. The ambiance there is nice and chill. Their drinks menu is extensive and the wait staff was attentive.

Kevin B.

Yelp
Yes if you would like low-key live music (jazz) , but the drinks are starting at at least $16 and it barely had any alcohol! I guess if that's what you want to pay for, but not me!

Laurie W.

Yelp
The Womack sucks. It has changed. Rough crowd, Security does not handle effectively. "Event Coordinator" protects her friends. Now need a metal detector to scan people coming in due to the cliental showing up. Pushing & shoving in the club is not being handled. STAR RATING: 1
google avatar

Damaris J.

Yelp
Bad advertisement on their website. Apparently there was a private event and a cover charge. Basically if you weren't apart of the event you were left to sit outside with an outside bartender with a depressing demeanor. Thankfully they gave us a refund immediately. Long story short we were looking for live music and somewhere to chill. This place ain't it.

Yelp
What a beautiful place to meet up with friends for a drink and a small bite. I was really impressed by the design of the space, inside and outside. They have an incredible happy hour, and parking a lot too! It's essentially a hidden gem that surprises you in all the great ways when you go for the first time. The service was great and the bartender that made my French 75 nailed it!! They also had live music inside, and it was the perfect complement to our happy hour meet up with friends. We also got some food as well: popcorn, chips & queso, and focaccia. It was all great. No complaints on our end. Definitely would come back here without a doubt.
google avatar

Felicia C.

Yelp
The cocktails were on point! Great ambiance, awesome vibe! Staff was friendly! Also tried a couple of other cocktails! Highly recommend giving this spot a try!
google avatar

Martha C.

Yelp
Only spent a short time here. But it was fun! Great music. And great drinks! The crowd is a mix of older and younger. It's smaller so there is a comfortable but really fun atmosphere.
google avatar

Yelp
Womack woah-man, this place is legit! Stopped in for happy hour and the setting is beautifully designed. The sun was setting, and the delicious hand crafted drinks were flowing! I ordered a vodka gimlet and it took me back to my 1932 grandfather's vodka gimlet. It was just as good as he made, and that is really saying a lot about the quality and skill of the bartender! I haven't been back since this joint first opened back in the day, and were playing those sweet R&B jams from the 90's. I loved it ! The new patio remodel is 5/5 and oh so COVID friendly, for the COVID Concerned. The service was outstanding! The waitresses timing was impeccable. She was very attentive without having the helicopter parent hover syndrome. Can't wait to return when there's some live music! Craft cocktails are 5/5. This place has it!
google avatar

Ross W.

Yelp
Great happy hour for drinks and small bites. The servers were friendly and the live music after 6 was a plus! I'll have to come back to try more of their food menu!
google avatar

Mariel S.

Yelp
Great large outdoor patio, cozy booths inside. Fun R&B, Motown, Hiphop night to dance to on Fridays. Covers accept cards. Dress real fresh. 20% automatically added to bar tabs so the card reader will ask for additional tip percentage if you want to give it. I haven't eaten here yet.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this spot as we were looking for a place to hangout and have a few drinks. We just came from CA. for a graduation. As we walked inside, the bar was packed and all booths taken DJ was playing Hip Hop and R&B, so people were even dancing. We had 5 of us so we went outside. Found a table and sat there for a few then the waitress came out and we ordered drinks and the charcuterie board and it was surprisingly very good. The waitress went out of her way to take care of us all night, checking in on us every few minutes. We ended up going to another spot the next night and we all said that we should have just went back to The Womacks! Great music and great outdoor seating! If we are ever back in Phoenix, this will be a must stop at!
google avatar

Tiffany D.

Yelp
Cool vibes, always a good time. Staff is nice and friendly and the music is good. I really enjoy the fact that the crowd is very diverse. I am so happy they opened back up after Covid and it looks like they expanded.
google avatar

Kaylee H.

Yelp
Alright, I am so pleasantly surprised by this spot. Great cocktail list / bartender made me a custom mocktail! The live music and sound was fantastic and the decor and ambiance was cozy and hip. I am definitely going back soon! Also, hire that Jiggle Jazz group again - they were FANTASTIC!
google avatar

O'Zandra F.

Yelp
Great spot to unwind, have a drink, and listen to live music. There's indoor and outdoor seating available. Nice ambience!
google avatar

Dylan J.

Yelp
Didn't try the food, but the ambiance and music is always good. Looking forward to coming back.
google avatar

Alane O.

Yelp
Wow. This place has gone downhill. The management has no idea what kinda of bar they want to be. We are here there's a dj playing the worst slow Christmas music, the bar tenders are angry, and no one knows why the music can't be changed. The entire bar is getting hostile and the manager is pretending he doesn't see it. Go anywhere else.
google avatar

Jill C.

Yelp
Really cool throwback bar with fun drinks and live music. The crowd was very eclectic, which is one reason it made it so fun and one of the reasons we head into Phoenix from Scottsdale, just a different vibe completely. It filled up right at 9, when the music started, so I recommend getting there a bit early.
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
11 out of 10 stars! Savannah is the BEST! Vicki, a shining star! And then there is Bradford.... The most humble and wonderful person, ever! Also, the popcorn is better than movie theatre popcorn. The drinks are the chefs kiss. The vibe and live music are un matched! Overall, incredible!
google avatar

Lakeisha W.

Yelp
Sadly to day, my experience at this establishment was HORRIBLE..... 1. Upon entering my party and I was advised there was open seating, however the inside was full.... And there were seats at the bar.. 2. Sat at the bar, ordered a bottle of wine. The bartender said there are no bottles of wine... uh? Bottles of wine are on the menu. I had to point out the wine to the bartender & low & behold, a bottle of wine appeared.... 3. Tasted the wine, advised on the taste, then the bartender argued stating he/she, couldn't just open bottles just for tasting.. imagine that..... If my party and I are not desired patrons, why not just say so.... Oh wait... They did THREE TIMES.... And the band playing tonight are just like me.... WOW...... How ironic.... Such a shame when ALL MONEY IS GREEN, right?

Yelp
The Womack is back open! WEDNESDAY night..OPEN MIC, Poetry and Spoken word, and singing! SATURDAY night..ROSCOE TAYLOR BAND!!! Come on out the patio is Amazing and Yes, there are Heater Lamps Outside!
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
Good age crowd, appealing venue, good music. The cocktails are a bit pricey and small but overall I enjoyed myself and like the place. Next time will checkout happy hour

Sherray M.

Yelp
Having an amazing night (on a Tuesday of all days) at The Womac! Decided to stop by after driving by a million times and it did not disappoint! Live music and Emilio mixing up great drinks!
google avatar

Keanna W.

Yelp
Hmm first impression was not great. We were meeting friends who were already seated and while the Womack was not packed, they had us waiting outside. Turns out they were short staffed that evening, but once we got in we had a blast dancing, sipping cocktails and listening to the fine tunes from the one and only Roscoe. What an experience- can't wait to do it again!
google avatar

Analisa C.

Yelp
A cool dim light classy bar. The drinks are delicious. Try the meatballs and onion dip. Great date night or place to have drinks. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Orange B.

Yelp
I have bartended and worked in bars in various roles over the years. I understood under pouring - to pour less alcohol then the customer purchased or regulatory required. There was three of us, a $217.00 bill, and it was not till we were leaving that how badly underpoured the drinks had been and how poor the place was. I did not notice the strength of the drinks dropped after the second one. I should have but was not really paying attention. Read the regs on the AZ Dept of Liquor, Audit Board opens on Monday will be pursuing any options, pointless most likely. Let the buyer beware, but I do not do trendy rub joints, normally. I am making this rub joint a special interest of mine. Poor judgement on burning customers, very short sighted.

Yelp
Love this place for great live music & fantastic staff! Everyone seems to be happy & personable at the Womack!

Yelp
Our favorite date place! The drinks and food are yummy! The music of Rosco Taylor band is exquisite! The staff at the Womack are fabulous and welcoming!

Yelp
Love this bar!! The live music is amazing. Wine was delicious. Great place to hit before the dive bar.

Yelp
The best bar in Phoenix. Jamie is the greatest. End of story. P.S. Since the days of Chez Nous, it's never been better.
google avatar

Anna R.

Yelp
Fun little cocktail spot in a booming and restaurant inundated part of Phoenix. Which makes it handy for walking to for a before or after dinner drink from one of the surrounding establishments. We happened to come later on a Sunday evening. There were only a few people at the bar-very quiet (apparently the evening event had just ended). Which was fine by us because we just wanted to enjoy a quick cocktail before returning home after dinner. Much to our surprise it was also happy hour all day on Sunday. I had a French 75 which I rarely find on a menu and it was very good. My friend had the Egg White Whiskey Sour. I tasted it but we both agreed it was a bit on the sweet side. The ambiance is dark and mysterious. The patio was nice and I'd like to return when the weather is nice.

Maria R.

Yelp
Love that atmosphere and happy people all around. Servers and bartenders acknowledge you even when busy and try to accommodate you if needed.great night with friends will definitely go back.
google avatar

William F.

Yelp
The appetizers were truly great, and the bar has an "Old Phoenix" vibe to it! Great spot . We had a terrific waitress - as it got busier - she kept track of us in good fashion. As the live music ramped up, the place got considerably more crowded - standing room only - fun for some, not so much for us after 10 pm. Still - the Womack rocks!
google avatar

Natasha A.

Yelp
Possibly my favorite "cocktail lounge" in the valley, mostly because of that killer "Rum Runner", excellent bartenders, and vintage setting. I always have a good time here, I've taken a date, I've taken friends, and I've taken family here. And they have all kinds of events from Burlesque shows to live rhythm & blues. Make sure to check their calendar online. On our most recent visit we came to celebrate a birthday and service was phenomenal, a hefty birthday shot for the birthday girl and we were unsure about ordering something other than the "Rum Runner" so they gave us the "Peach Retreat" on the house. Prices are also very reasonable for the quality of the drinks. "The Womack" was a tribute to an iconic 1963 Phoenix cocktail lounge, called "Chez Nous" which played rhythm & blues and was featured in the Rolling Stone's magazine and a set location for the hollywood film, "The Kingdom." "The Womack" is a reference to Chez Nous' original owners - Andy and Maureen Womack. They actually owned other 60's lounges in the valley, one of them being this one, where The Womack is today but sold it in the 70's. If you like this cocktail lounge, The Womack created by Genuine Concepts (Tucker Woodbury) also created Cobra Arcade Bar, Linger Longer Lounge, and the Little Woody, all which have that vintage flair. If The Womack represents the 60's, then Linger Longer Lounge represents the 70's, Cobra Arcade Bar represents the 80's, and the Little Woody well is more like a hip log cabin but they played 90's music last time I was there, so that counts for something, right?
google avatar

Tina T.

Yelp
Love this little lounge. We come when we know it wont be packed and can get a seat at the bar, and enjoy a couple old fashioneds. Savannah and Jamie always remember us and our order when we come in, and they're why we keep coming back.
