"I visited a new breakfast-and-lunch spot on Market Street from the brothers behind Woodhouse Fish Co. and West of Pecos and partner/chef August Shuchman; after a brief remodel they lightened up the space formerly occupied by the Spanish restaurant Aatxe into a sunny daytime destination. The menu ranges from lighter options like pastries and granola to full-on hash and eggs benedict for breakfast, with sandwiches and salads at lunch; there are also Swedish pancakes with huckleberries and open-faced sandwiches topped with gravlax and crème fraîche as a nod to the Swedish American Hall. Cocktails are available at all times (the restaurant shares a liquor license with downstairs Cafe du Nord), so expect Bloody Marys, spritzs and other daytime drinking classics, plus Sightglass coffee for those with “things to do.” At opening Wooden Spoon serves breakfast and lunch Wednesday–Sunday from 8 a.m.–3 p.m., with plans to expand to seven days a week within a few weeks." - Ellen Fort
"Opening May 16, Wooden Spoon will be a breakfast-and-lunch restaurant from brothers Dylan and Rowan MacNiven and partner/chef August Shuchman that takes over the former Aatxe space in the Swedish American Hall. The menu is intended to serve the neighborhood all day, ranging from healthy options to full-on hangover breakfasts, with classics like eggs and pancakes alongside items such as a Dungeness crab frittata and a vegan chorizo hash; a few Scandinavian dishes—Swedish pancakes and open-faced sandwiches—will join the American classics as a nod to the hall. Because Wooden Spoon shares a liquor license with downstairs Cafe du Nord, cocktails like bloody marys and greyhounds will be available, and coffee will be from Sightglass.
