NYC’s New Restaurant Openings - New York - The Infatuation

"The next time you put your name down at Thai Diner and have a few hours to burn, consider The Wooly. At this cocktail bar in Nolita, you can drink a Saturday Night Pink (a cosmo) and eat drakes in capes (mini duck franks). We appreciate a cocktail bar with food, for an oh-so-classic Nolita wait." - Will Hartman, Willa Moore

The Wooly Review - Nolita - New York - The Infatuation

"If you think are officially post-cool, The Wooly might be cool enough for you, with its library of cassette tapes and CDs, and fantastic sound system playing yacht rock. This Nolita bar and restaurant leans hard into a ’70s aesthetic, with forest-scape wallpaper and a few taxidermied birds, stopping just short of throwing a plastic cover over the leather booth in a sunny corner. Soak up your orgeat and amaro-laced whiskey sour with raw bar items and loungey snacks, like deviled egg tea sandwiches, or bigger things like miso-brined steelhead trout. And while The Wooly would be a solid place to wait for your table at , we could also see ourselves throwing back a few, accidentally forgetting our dinner plans, and floating away on a “Summer Breeze.”" - Will Hartman

Why Restaurant Owners Are Afraid to Use PPP Loan Stimulus Money | Eater

"A downtown Manhattan hospitality group based in the Woolworth Building that grew from a private‑events business into a multi‑venue operation including a 73‑seat restaurant; the shutdown forced large layoffs and a rapid pivot toward delivery and takeout even though events were the core revenue. Because the company already had relationships with delivery channels (Seamless, Caviar, Uber Eats) the shift was faster than for many peers. The owners obtained PPP funds relatively smoothly thanks to strong banking ties but are reluctant to spend them until forgiveness rules are clearer, treating the cash as insurance for now. They remain cautiously optimistic, exploring pivots such as curated at‑home experiences, controlled catering for offices and private events, and virtual/experimental programming to preserve the experiential core of their business while adapting to lower capacity and changing consumer behavior." - Amanda Kludt

Google
The Wooly was an unexpected stop we made for some drinks while out exploring the city. Awesome vibe!! The drinks were GOOD and the bartender and his associate were nice and attentive. I'd definitely come back if I were in the area.

The food is actually veryyyy good. We got 6-7 small plates ($16 per plate) to share between four of us and it was more than enough food. Everything was great, but my favorites were the shrimp, meatless meatballs, squash rings, and burrata + tomatoes. The only thing I wouldn’t recommend is the Caesar salad - the lettuce was just really bitter. Good service and open late. Great for a small group or date.

Because we were extremely hungry, we randomly picked a restaurant along the street. We ordered three dishes—and every single one was awful. The burger was the worst I’ve ever had—worse than even McDonald’s. In another dish, the chicken unexpectedly had a bit of egg mixed in; it kind of resembled American-style Chinese fried rice, but it was absolutely terrible. The service was bad, but that would’ve been forgivable—however, the food was also awful. I just couldn’t stand it. This was the first time I ever left a negative review on Google Maps. The food was really that bad.

Stumbled upon this great spot while walking around the neighborhood. Honestly, impressed. Friendly staff, great drinks/food and good vibes. Did not make a reservation and staff was very accommodating. It was a beautiful day and I asked them to sit outside. They got me a table within 20mins as I sat on the bar despite no reservation and a busy day. 30mins after I sat outside light drizzle started and they quickly accommodated back us inside. Coming back!

Google
The Wooly is a gem of a local restaurant with incredible food and one of the best drinks I’ve ever had! The sautéed garlic shrimp was spot on, and the Brussels sprouts were simply amazing. My wife and I shared the strip steak, cooked to a perfect medium rare—it was flawless. The service was fast and friendly, rounding out an exceptional experience. We’ll definitely be back soon!

Google
Beautiful space especially nice outdoor seating. I think the chicken crispy sandwich is too big and unwieldy to eat as a sandwich but the flavors are good and so are the french fries. I liked the espresso martini and my wife enjoyed the coronation chicken sandwich.

Google
I love the style of the place, this isnt just about the food it's a culinary sensation. The music, atmosphere and style of the place are exquisite. I got a very generous amount of wine and a huge sandwich full of greens and goat cheese, the fried avocado was amazing too. Highly recommended, fair price for new york

Had a good happy hour here. Had the porn star martini, deviled eggs, the squash rings. Tasty appetizers, good service, cute restaurant.

Yelp
I came here to meet a friend while in NY for a day, and neither of us had been before so I wasn't sure they were even open because Google listed their hours as being open from 12pm onwards. I realized that they had a coffee bar window, and that was open before 12pm (12pm is the opening time for the restaurant). I treated my friend to an iced coffee, while I got a hot lavender matcha. The ambiance is conducive to sitting and relaxing outside, taking in the New York seats, while the inside has that vintage vibe and also looks cozy. My friend and I were able to enjoy our drinks and take in the fresh September New York morning. My friend is a chocolate chip cookie connoisseur, and ordered one of their special chocolate chip cookies for both of us to share. She proclaimed it to be "the best chocolate chip cookie in NYC!". With that firm proclamation, I had to believe her. It was easy to believe, as I found the cookie soft, warm, super chewy and buttery, and had enough salt to give it that interesting flavor. I highly recommend pairing their coffee with a cookie! The manager was a nice guy and chatted with us for a bit, and the barista working that day was super helpful as well.

Yelp
My experience at The Wooly was delightful! Creative cocktails, delicious cuisine, and kind service. The aesthetic was stylish with a retro feel. The Wooly is decorated with CD stacks, vintage cassette players, and even taxidermy, making it a genuinely unique place. I came here for brunch, and tried the "Private Cheeseburger." The cheeseburger was delicious and fresh. I also thought the remoulade was creamy. Overall, 5 stars.

Yelp
So happy I was able to snag a Friday night reservation here. The staff was incredibly friendly upon arrival and throughout the service. Music was great and while the dining room was completely full, the volume was not overwhelming. The espresso and dirty martinis are perfectly balanced. The Drakes in Capes appetizer was my favorite especially paired with the whipped honey mustard cream. I ordered my burger medium rare and it came out a little more rare than anticipated but was still great. I was overall very impressed with my entire experience. I was dining with some friends and one is visiting nyc for the very first time. He said the Spiced Slice Chicken was maybe the best chicken he ever had.

Yelp
Popped in on my walk down Mulberry street during the San Gennaro fest. The bar area was closed off for a private event, we just wanted drinks, the hostess sat us at a table which was only available for 30 mins. The waitress was very friendly and attentive, our drinks came out quickly. The frozen espresso martini was very good, the margarita not so good. Super cute ambiance, I will be returning to try the food.

Yelp
Came here expecting good food based on review. We sat outside since we had the dogs with us. The food took a while to come out even though it was not busy. But then that's fine if it was good food. But everything. Was either bland or no flavor. Very disappointing. The staff was friendly but didn't come check on us often so it took a while for us to get our check to leave since it was hot. First time and last time.

Yelp
Such a cute bar/ restaurant! It felt very cool and moody yet casual and easy going! Most of their food is elevated bar food and it was all so good! We had the burger and fries and those fries were some of the best that I have had! I could have eaten only the fries for dinner and been content! They have an elevated pigs in the blanket that had duck in them and they were mouth watering good as well! The drinks were lovely and so was the staff. 10/10 recommend going!

Yelp
The Wooly was a nice place to enjoy good cocktails and delicious food. Everything we had was excellent. I got the Halibut, which was a special on the menu. We enjoyed the watermelon feta salad and garlic shrimp to start. The service was lovely. The seating was comfortable, and everything was a 10!

Yelp
Attentive and friendly staff. Healthy and delicious food. Relaxed environment. On the cusp of Little Italy, is this gem.

Yelp
The service was excellent - dropped in on a Saturday evening (Aug 2024). We sat at the bar and the barman, whose name I can't remember, was friendly and very capable. Food was good. Wasn't the best burger I've eaten but was good.

Yelp
Back again and giving it a fifth star - vibes are great, service is great, food is great. No complaints all around, really solid spot

Yelp
Stopped here on a Saturday afternoon while exploring little Italy neighborhood. Ordered a snack (feta bake with tomatoes etc. and toasted baguette) and coffee. Coffee was at room temperature, my partner asked if they could heat up the coffee and they chose to make a fresh cup. This time the coffee came with a creamer on the side which was cold, so, ten minutes of all that fuss and we were back at square one. The feta bake: the top was charred black, so about a third of the dish was inedible, the part that was edible was heavily salted. All in all a disappointing experience. To top it all, the hostess accosted me on the way out in a very snarky attitude about not leaving any tip. If the tip is an optional thing and the service/food is less than mediocre, that seemed super aggressive. Very underwhelming for a place like NewYork!

Yelp
Really great atmosphere. Beautiful interior with big windows and nice seating. Great cosmos for happy hour. The happy hour food was good but not mouth watering. Great for a place to grab happy hour drinks with friends. Service was perfectly fine and attentive.

Yelp
The Wooly is a new Nolita gem! This place is dishing out superb cocktails and food! The "Whip it Good" and the "Peg's Cadillac" were the highlight cocktails for us! The staff were phenomenal and the food was fantastic! The spicy tuna and the burger were also incredible! With a romantic ambience and a prime location I will certainly be back soon!

Yelp
I did not sit down, just tried their to go coffee counter. Had the shaken iced lavender latte. It was 6.5 so not too expensive! I like the creaminess but the expresso was too light for me. Wouldn't say I'd get again. They had some seating outside

Yelp
We went here on our 11 year anniversary, to grab some drinks after we had dinner elsewhere. The two cocktails we had were amazing, and when our waitress came back to take our next order we asked for two shots, one tequila and one mezcal. She had noted that those sounded really good, so we asked if she wanted to take one with us, and she excitedly agreed. She brought back three shots and we took them, and a few minutes later brought us our bill. Now we were prepared to cover her shot, but we didn't realize that she chose a $36 and 38 shot for both her and my fiance. We didn't make a fuss about it in the moment because we didn't want to make a big deal out of it, but that really soured our experience. $38 for a shot (for herself too), without asking which tier or brand we wanted? Additionally, as we hate to leave bad tips, we still tipped 15% on top of the entire bill. We felt taken advantage of and will not be back. Update: the owner has offered to refund us for the shots, which we happily accepted. Thanks David!

Yelp
Great experience celebrating my friend with a big group where we could hear everyone and also enjoy the amazing playlist and food and drinks. All around incredible atmosphere and service. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
I got a great pasta special and salad. The cocktails were awesome and it was the perfect place for a 17 degree night. I love the custom bar speakers and the lighting tone. Warm and cozy. There is an eating nook for two that would be really fun to sit in. +They check coats. I recommend the place.

Allison P.

Yelp
Lovely! The deviled eggs are amazing, and the cocktails are wonderful. A classic cocktail bar, with creative, refreshing cocktails and fantastic food.

Yelp
Drinks and food were great and place was lively . Would recommend for sure . Service was slow to start but then fine too - they were super busy !

Yelp
I had high hopes for the Wooly. It was well decorated, the menu looked promising online (we wanted happy hour drinks & some food) and the cocktails looked so fun & yummy (the menu even had drawings!!) went with some friends around 4:40 and asked for a dinner menu. They told us that it was only happy hour & when we asked what time dinner was served, they said 5pm. We all noted it was only 20 mins away and that we would wait until then and just grab some drinks and snack until then. I got the frozen espresso martini (it was so so good 10/10) and we ordered the cheese board for the table. The cheese board threw us off. There were 4 of us and it came with 3 small pieces of cheese, 3 pieces of baguette, a scoop of jam, and 2 strawberries?? For $12. We all kind of laughed when the cheese came out. It was definitely a "small plate" as it was advertised. (In the photo you can kinda see the cheese) at 5pm we were obviously still hungry, and we wanted a dinner menu, we had to go inside & ask for it since we were sitting outside. We looked at the menu & after the 3 pieces of cheese we were kinda thrown off so we just closed the check out and went somewhere else for dinner. The people watching was good, the servers were kind, the drinks sooo good, and the ambiance was so cute, but the food was not so great.

Yelp
Vibes are vibing. Service is superb. Cocktails are even better!! The Wooly is a must try in Nolita / SoHo area. I got their brand new summer drink the "Cantaloop" and it was a 10/10. Mellow and fruity with a hint of lemon. Perfect for the upcoming hot summer days. Next time I need to check out their happy hour for their $11 martinis!!!

Veronica M.

Yelp
Whoever wrote bad reviews about this place clearly has something else going on because this place is great. The hostess set the classy tone and made my friends and I feel very welcome. We ordered appetizers and drinks which were excellent, our server with the tooth gem was very attentive, professional and gave great recommendations. I'll definitely be back!

Alena E.

Yelp
I came here with a few coworkers to celebrate a promotion and it was truly the best time. The staff constantly checked on us for drinks, cracked some jokes. Loved it all around. My cosmo was so delish, everyone sitting around us was a good time, will definitely go back.

Alaster J.

Yelp
Popped in early evening with a bunch of friends and were seated immediately. Great space, feels fresh and vibey with a nicely done outside area as well. Started with a whole mix of drinks, all of which were interesting and well thought out. We ordered a load of small plates, again all interesting and well put together. My favorites were probably the popcorn shrimp, the ricotta, and the anchovies, though the slider and the spaghetti with clams were both excellent too. Staff were fun and attentive but not intrusive. This spot has immediately become my favorite in the area.

Yelp
What a fabulous space, fabulous staff & fabulous food. We enjoyed a Sunday brunch consisting of the Wooly breakfast, oatmeal, the stack of pancakes & the Boursin omelet-yummmmmm!!!! All the food was absolutely delicious, beautifully seasoned & presented. The staff is effortlessly cool. Coming back here soon!!! I love it.

Yelp
The vibes were foul. When I arrived with my girlfriend the hostess didn't say anything, until we finally spoke. I thought to myself that's fine maybe she's just shy. On the other hand our waitress is my reason for this review. She never brought us waters when we sat down, and never brought us place settings. I can't tell you anything she did besides taking our order. It gets worse. I asked our waitress for water, she finally brings us water. Another waitress brings my food out, then realizes we don't have place settings and utensils, then follows to bring them to us. Our waitress comes over and takes them from our table (i'm not kidding). So i'm shocked as to why she would take them away from us. It gets better, that same waitress that brought us utensils realizes we don't have them again, and brings me a fresh pair. At one point our waitress was just staring at us and it made me uncomfortable that this girl is clearly upset about something. She just gave off rude vibes. The food & drinks were amazing, but the vibes sucked our good vibes right out of our souls. Friday, 31st May Outside 9:30pm. Waitress has glasses

Yelp
Sunday afternoon brunch was a 10/10 the food was delicious, DJ was great, and our server Ava was super attentive and gave quality recommendations. Definitely try the Wooly breakfast and the shaken lavender latte

Honor D.

Yelp
If you like sitting with GenZs blowing vape smoke and blaring cell phones, come here. It is a master class in GenZ entitlement. With great wallpaper and awesome bartenders.

Nathan S.

Yelp
The best new edition to SoHo / Nolita. Everything from the atmosphere, staff, food, and drinks are INCREDIBLE! I've quickly become a regular!

Josh D.

Yelp
Never made it to the original in the Woolworths building, but I remember its rep... Went last night to new Wooly in Nolita with a big group and think across the span of our table we had most of the menu represented. Space felt like sitting for dinner with friends in a Wes Anderson story. Everything was executed just so. Its not simple, but it there is something comfort food about it. Warm fun place to hang late with good friends
