"Order online with contact-free pick-up at the door from 8 a.m. to noon (closed Mondays and Tuesdays). Along with to-go matcha and chai lattes, scones and muffins, the coffee shop on 14th Street NW and H Street NE is also doubling as a grocery store with toilet paper, milk, wine, and butter for sale." - Tierney Plumb

"This too-cool-for-school coffee shop in Cardozo has a bright, airy feel, with lots of natural wood and chic herringbone floors. It's a WiFi-free zone—a perk for some and a detriment to others. Given said lack of free internet access, those who imbibe at the Wydown are typically popping in for a quick re-caffeination, or looking to linger and savor the moment with a paper in one hand (okay, a Kindle) and a latte in the other. Cold brews are especially potent, so grab one of those if you need to perk up—and the sugar-crusted scones, in cheery flavors like raspberry-rose, are delightful when you need a snack." - Laura Ratliff

Google
Coffee lover here (and, no not Starbucks or dunkin kind). Wydown was AMAZING! Their house made mocha syrup and lavender syrup were perfect, not too sweet either!! The blackberry and lavender scone was DELICIOUS!!! The environment was also calming and inviting. Seats along the windows were perfect to get some sun and enjoy a cup of coffee.

Google
What a great little coffee shop! Passing by headed to dinner I stopped in for a flat-white. I love they use Small Plains coffee beans-loved my flat white with soy so much, I had to have a second! Staff is extremely friendly and always working. The staff of three never stopped-in between customers they cleaned-the customer service is stellar and the coffee shop was one of the cleanest I have been in!

Google
Cute coffee place full of people sitting inside as well as coming in and out. There is a small selection of bakery items as well as bottled drinks. There is also a restroom. We ordered a iced oat vanilla latte and an iced oat cinnamon latte. Both were just sweet enough and well rounded in flavor. I think the oat milk was a little heavy and compressed the flavor of the espresso but it was otherwise good. Also the vanilla and the cinnamon syrups were good but tasted quite similar to each other.

Google
Great coffee spot located on a busy street. I recently stopped by on an early Sunday and the line was almost out the door. My friends and I ordered a regular coffee, espresso shot and a matcha latte. Prices are reasonable for DC and service was really quick. I’ll definitely be back for their breakfast pastries

Google
Friendly, tasty, and fun. I heard about their scones on Reddit (yes, there’s a thread for DC scones), and have to agree—Wydown’s are hands down the best scones I’ve found in DC so far (apart from my family recipe 😌). They also have seasonal varieties, always a plus. The location is also convenient, right around the corner from U & 14th street. Also went on a Sunday morning, and there’s a nice cozy, bubbly atmosphere with lots of folks. And did I mention friendly?

Google
The flavor of the coffee is exquisite. The coffee is so good it needs no sugar or cream. Be sure to order a orange cranberry muffin. The sugar layer has a wonderful crunch to the warm fruit flavors inside. Atmosphere is casual urban. Wydown coffee bar is a must visit when close to U street in DC.

Google
✅Delicious coffee ✅ great atmosphere ✅ baked goods ✅ fresh breakfast ✅ smells amazing when you walk in. ✅ laid back, bookstore vibes.

Google
Tiny cafe but good ca l coffee. There a more medium-dark roast. They make their drinks piping hot. Also serve pastries like cinnamon roll, muffins, lavendar scones, and more.

Yelp
Stopped by on a rainy day after hearing nothing but great things about the Wydown, and was pleasantly surprised with the coffee! I ordered an iced latte with cinnamon syrup, and it was very nicely balanced with the milk to espresso ratio. The cinnamon syrup was subtle and not too overwhelming and added a nice sweetness to the drink. It's a smaller space with limited seating, but has a cozy and homey ambiance. Staff is pretty friendly, wait times for drink were a little slow but not unbearable. Can't wait to be back!

Allie H.

Yelp
Even when it's a snowy winter day I'll always be an iced coffee girly. This was one of the first coffee shops i went to when I moved to DC and it has never disappointed. It's cozy and clean and the baristas are super kind. The baked goods are amazing- not usually a scone girl but I will make an exception for here. Their cherry almond scone is *chefs kiss*. Extra great if you stop by early when they're warm. The coffee is great. I usually get some type of iced latte. Today was vanilla but when they have lavender available I always for for that. This will always be a go-to.

Yelp
Stopped by yesterday for some caffeine and snacks after brunch. Having some stomach issues, I forwent a coffee/espresso drink and decided to try the Sencha Tea. Husband got his Latte with Oat milk. The baked goods display looked inviting. It was hard to choose so I got a chocolate chip cookie and a blueberry scone. The Sencha tea was very smooth and had a good taste. It came in a very generous tea bag that looked almost like a double. The chocolate chip cookie was good, too. While it didn't stand out as a favorite, I would buy it again. Scones are a tricky subject. The American style scones are usually pretty sweet vs the traditional English scone. I prefer the latter when having a regular scone with afternoon tea. But this time I was expecting a slight sweetness to go with the blueberries. I found the scone tasting more like a biscuit in texture. It did have a bit of a sweet topping. Found myself wishing it was a little sweeter. Regretting I didn't try their coffee, I went back today to get their Americano. It did not disappoint. It was smooth with a nice roast-y flavor. It has a medium roast profile. No bitterness or sourness. Husband liked his latte with oat milk yesterday and got another one this morning. Yesterday, the peach and ginger scone kept calling my name so I ordered one this morning. Again, didn't have the bit of added sweetness I was looking for. With that said, these would prob be good with some jam or clotted cream. The shop has a decent space. It opens up a little bit in the rear. There's a communal table in the front. It's a quiet and comfortable space. Service was friendly. They have the usual set up where you can add milk to your coffee. They also have postcards and a drop off jar and a sign stating they'll mail your postcard for free. It's a very kind gesture and unexpected details like this that elevates an experience. Would definitely come back for coffee/espresso drinks.

Yelp
Got my coffee from Wydown this morning. In the 5 minutes I was there, the staff was warm, greeted no less than 3 regulars by name, and helped 2 people through their questions. Their iced cinnamon oat latte is my favorite in DC and was made to perfection. I support Wydown Workers United and sincerely hope their organizing efforts are successful.

Victoria P.

Yelp
first time @ the Wydown coffee bar so I ordered off their menu and opted for the iced cinnamon oat latte -- which I REALLY wanted to like, but unfortunately, it tasted watered down and was wayy too icey (I took some out once I got home)

Fernando M.

Yelp
Great place! I accidentally ordered a gluten free brownie and it was delicious! Service is great and I like the music.

Joanne L.

Yelp
Really great coffee shop on 14th street. I like their coffee as well as the scones and cinnamon roll (only on weekends). The scones are buttery soft and come in both sweet and savory flavors. As a cinnamon roll fanatic, I can't forgo any chance to try a new one. This is a textbook one - a good amount of frosting (on the sweeter side), fluffy dough with no dry spots, and good cinnamon flavor. Nothing special but overall good. The staff are always sweet and welcoming. The space is wonderful but usually quite full - if you want a table, go early.

Jazlyn G.

Yelp
Good service, good ambiance, good food, and good drinks. I would just caution that it's a bit pricey and that this cafe does not have Wifi. This is a good choice if you're willing to splurge about $7 on a latte and have a meeting with your personal hot spot or enjoy a book. The staff is super lovely and made me a delicious iced mocha latte.

Anushka M.

Yelp
Love Wydown! Their pumpkin syrup is delicious. My friend and I both got an iced pumpkin latte and asked to make it a little sweeter. The drink came out amazing and was the perfect amount of sweet for us. We also noticed their postcard station where you can send anyone a postcard with a note for free! They stamp and mail it for you which is a sweet gesture. I've heard they have good pastries but we weren't able to try them this time. Hope to come back soon!

Carly C.

Yelp
Cute little place with cool vibes and good coffee! I ordered an iced latte and it was very tasty. The cashier and the barista were both friendly. There is limited seating both inside and outside but still a cool spot to chill if you can find a seat! The coffee bar and some of the hanging art work add a fun vibe to the place!

Sabrina G.

Yelp
I love love love love this place! The staff is always so nice and sweet. While waiting for my order I'm always conversing with one of the employees (I need to get her name) but she's sweet and when I don't see her at the cash register I will look around to see if she's making my drink because I feel like it's made with extra sweets ! I love all of the scones I've tried and the biscuits. My first visit was some years ago and I had the salmon toast it was delicious . My favorite drink I get is the ice latte with the lavender syrup and a blueberry lemon Scone. But I recently tried their matcha with the lavender syrup and it was amazing. The Wydown is always clean both inside and out. Please, check them out. It's two location this one on 14th and H street.

Peggy O.

Yelp
So I may just have had the best avocado toast I've ever had. I don't know what the heck they put on it but the flavors were amazing. A good size piece of sourdough bread with fresh delicious avocado, tomatoes, pepper, oil, and feta cheese. The cappuccino was good. A bit small like an Espresso but that's all right--!I would return. A few tables outside porch just great. Perfect break on my morning walk

Kat B.

Yelp
The space was decently sized but it seemed hard to find seating. The coffee wasn't bad but my latte was mild and bland. I was extremely excited for the homemade syrup but wasn't really wowed. My husband got a chai which tasted more like milk. The pastries were exceptional though. Both their regular and gluten free were delicious. Please note: they do not have WiFi.

Brendon G.

Yelp
Why did they shutdown??? This was my favorite neighborhood coffee shop. Unique and tasty breakfast options, nice staff, and cool ambiance. It was always busy.

Aviva M.

Yelp
Love this place as a casual coffee spot, one of my go-to's. 8.5/10 overall - they really only have 2 veggie options but the avo toast is amazingggg 9/10!! - coffee is super good, kinda overpriced but solid - all baristas are really sweet - EXTREMELY crowded with all the dc yuppy crowd on weekends

Anna S.

Yelp
Great coffee. Unfortunately came too late for the food menu, but the espresso was amazing. Limited seating !

Erik R.

Yelp
Great neighborhood coffee shop. Coffee is pretty solid and food options are great. Biscuits, especially the jalepeno ones, are excellent. Really friendly staff as well.

Samantha V.

Yelp
If you want a coffee bar with a super cute vibe and awesome staff, look no further! My boyfriend and I stopped in here before a day of shopping and we were able to get our caffeine fix and a very hearty breakfast! They portions are great and the coffee is even better!

Suz I.

Yelp
Such a cute coffee shop. It was very busy. A line out the door but they move fast. The pastries are very tasty, fresh and served warm.

Melanie W.

Yelp
Really great coffee bar. The vibe is rich and the staff is friendly. Seating is limited but the couple times I've been there's been at least one seat open. If they have any scones in their pastry case you have to get one. Soft, flavorful, with crunchy sugar crystals on top - it is a necessary buy. I'm especially in love with the raspberry rose one. Coffee here is delicious. They know how to make a good cappuccino which is always a good sign. Their selling point though is definitely their house made syrups. Lastly, the food. I don't really need to say much. Look at that avocado toast.

Francesca D.

Yelp
Really friendly staff! And the coffee was delicious. Got to try both a mocha latte and Chai latte. Neither were too sweet, which is hard to find. And they make the chai in-house.

Say M.

Yelp
I came here excited to try a scone after seeing the reviews and photos on yelp in which people described how amazing the scones supposedly are. After having one, I don't understand the hype at all. I got the cherry almond scone, expecting there to be some bits of cherry throughout the scone, like in a typical scone. There was not one bit of cherry in the entire scone. There was no cherry flavor either. The only flavor the scone had was an artificial tasting almond flavor. I don't know if this is the norm, or if I just got a bad one, but I was pretty disappointed because I was definitely expecting much more from a scone that costs $3.85. I doubt I'll return to try other baked goods here after this experience.

Melanie O.

Yelp
Have you ever had a most scone? I have. This b**** is delicious. I had trouble choosing between the blueberry muffin and the scone, and my barista gave me a solid scone recommendation and even offered to give me a muffin if I didn't like it. These are significant scones. Solid lattes. They have a Marzocco in here and the espresso tastes like the clean it properly enough. Nice soft fluffy foam with little bubbles, and not too much of it. Honestly for the price it's a deal. Nice little seating area if you wanted to do work. Limited outlets, so I asked to it at a table with someone where there was outlets. Fairly nice and mild crowd. It's really the only thing open around here at 7am I think.

David H.

Yelp
Finally made it in and will definitely become part of the rotation. Iced latte was delicious, drip coffee was great, and the jalapeño biscuit was tasty. Service is fast too. In my top tier of coffee spots around

Lizzy S.

Yelp
Great drinks, quick service, and amazing pastries. Their classic breakfast biscuit sandwich always makes my day and at a reasonable price! I typically order lattes, matcha, or chai with oat milk and have yet to be disappointed. The outdoor seating is usually full on sunny days, but there's plenty of seating inside too.

Rachel S.

Yelp
I am so sad this coffee shop closed. I've worked in the service industry. Workers that do the brunt of the work that make you coffee, feed you brunch, bus your table, bag your groceries, should be paid fair wages, get paid sick leave, and receive the incredible respect. Great product and staff all around. Shame on the management for closing it down right as they are doing work to be recognized as a union.

Selah G.

Yelp
Support the Wydown's workers by holding fast and fair election! Their union must be recognized as soon as possible!

Josh K.

Yelp
Former customer until I learned of the abusive owners who underpay and exploit their workers, and the lingering food safety problems the owners repeatedly fail to address.

Janelle S.

Yelp
I decided to try this little coffee bar this morning around 7:30 am. Taking into consideration the reviews on here, I knew there wouldn't be much seating so I showed up 30 minutes after opening. There is a variety of seating - indoor bar seating, outdoor bar seating and a community style long table. Keep in mind, if you are like me and are planning on bringing your laptop, the majority of the indoor bar seating has thin bar top tables so I don't consider it suitable for working on your laptop. I decided today to order a coffee cake muffin and a vanilla latte. The coffee cake muffin was ok, as you can see in my attached photo, the top doesn't have very many crumbs which I usually prefer but if you are on the go, this is a good option as it does not get crumbs everywhere. The cinnamon in the center and the top is good but the regular plain muffin portions of it are bland so it was good in certain parts and other parts are blah. I looked thru the reviews that mentioned the iced coffee had tons of ice so I decided to go with a hot vanilla latte. The coffee was very very very hot, please be careful! The foam isn't steaming hot so it is decent heat but when you get to the actual coffee it is almost burn your tongue hot, please be careful if you are planning on drinking this during a walk. Anyway, the coffee was smooth but was slightly more of a bitter coffee taste, I didn't really taste the vanilla flavoring. But the price wasn't crazy, reasonable compared to other coffee shops in DC. If I were to explain this shop in one word it would be 'Ehhhh'. Nothing bad, nothing great.

Chanel G.

Yelp
Thankful for.... Coffee! And the many varieties available in the DMV! like @thewydown * Started the morning with a #pumpkinspicelatte because why not, the season is almost over! & the caramel apple scone... was truly hoping for a cinnamon roll though! * Very coffee forward, less about the flavor of the drink. Pastry was pretty tasty, caramel was super flavorful!

Alex A.

Yelp
I am really thankful for The Wydown. The baristas are so nice and they are extraordinarily consistent in how they make their drinks. My go-to is a vanilla chai with oat milk, hot or iced. They use Oatly oat milk, which is excellent. Their matcha is great iced (less so hot). Their chocolate chip banana muffin is sooooo so so good. The only negative to me is that they don't have wifi and cell service is weirdly spotty in the back of the shop. I don't love the layout of the back area with the mirrors either. But, overall, the shop is designed well, has ample space to seat, and the outdoor seating is really nice. They are crowded on weekend mornings and for good reason -- The Wydown is the best coffee shop in DC. For me, it is worth the walk.

Lilia B.

Yelp
I come to Wydown quite literally every day, and am consistently met with the highest level of customer service, care, attentiveness and comradery. With that said, I fully back and support the Wydown Workers United, and hope that they will see success soon in their current bid

Ryli C.

Yelp
I ordered an iced chai tea latte with oat milk and a shot of espresso and the salmon toast and both were a great way to start the day. The staff was busy yet very friendly. I'm only visiting in DC so this will be a go-to when I come back!

nikole s.

Yelp
No credit No food. Stopped by this location before heading to my appointment today. Placed an order Total came to 17.50. Payed with a 20.00 Was told they don't accept cash anymore. Well let's rewind was first told of that was the only thing I had available they would check. Cashier asked co worker came back and said they can't take a 20.00. They don't accept cash anymore. I didn't see any signs saying they didn't take cash anymore. Won't be back

Karissa M.

Yelp
Saw the great reviews and decided to scoot on down here. Vanilla latte was delish, not overpowering or strong, just the right amount of sweetness and foam. Their cups are super cute too! Got the classic bacon, egg, and cheese. Bacon is an extra $2 and a sausage patty is an extra $1.50 I believe. The sandwich was very filling and also delicious. The bread had its own garlicky rich flavor that I loved. The sandwich was not greasy at all. It's cute inside the establishment and well designed. It is a little on the small side so when they're busy it may be difficult to snag a table. Everyone who worked there was kind and helpful. So definitely stop buy for a good cup of coffee.

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
The Wydown is the best coffee shop in DC. If you like a really rich espresso beverage and find lattes to be too milky, definitely try their cortado. I am now a Wydown cortado addict. It's Pavlovian. Don't sleep on their food either! Their cherry almond scones and their peanut banana toast are too good. Also just a huge shoutout to their team. They are so nice and helpful and really go above and beyond to help their customers. I had an issue with my loyalty account and their manager literally worked on it for two days to get it fixed. Just so I can get a free coffee every three weeks or so. Seriously can't say enough good things about this place.

Elisa H.

Yelp
Really excellent jalapeno biscuit & lavender vanilla latte. Their coffee art is cooler than cool.

Arianna V.

Yelp
A great iced coffee pre-pandemic it'd be jam-packed inside and felt like everyone was hanging out in someone's studio apartment, hopefully it can go back to a semblance of this! Glad they've been able to stay open!

Sally W.

Yelp
Good coffee and tasty loose leaf tea! The coffee shop (and clientele) look super on trend, and their to-go cups are super cutely designed, but their drinks stand on their own! I'm personally a fan of the cappuccinos here. It's a small space inside with not too many places to sit during busy hours. There are a few seats outside the shop on the sidewalk with some more inside (see my photo for how some of the seating inside looks like). Good place to grab a cup of something hot to sip on, on the go.

Kiara P.

Yelp
Their food is fantastic! The first time I came here I got a sausage and cheese on a homemade biscuit and haven't stopped thinking about it for MONTHS! Coffee is great too. However, I'm giving it three stars because they don't have wifi. I don't really care how that seems to people but in 2023 a large amount of us have the option to work remotely and I just think there's no excuse to not have wifi at a coffee shop. I will continue to keep coming here for the biscuits and when I need to do work I'll head over to their H street location but i was a little disappointed about the wifi situation when I first came here and I feel that others should know!

Namir S.

Yelp
One of the two true "local" / "neighborhood" coffee spots in this part of 14th street corridor. Great selection of tap and espresso based drinks, and changing selection of breakfast items. On the weekends in particular there can be a line outside in the mornings, but it moves quickly unless you want to eat there. Great to have a local spot with quality drinks and nice people!

Leslie K.

Yelp
Excellent cold brew. Mixing it with milk would be a sin. That's how you know it's the good stuff. At one point they did coffee tasting/education talks that were really good and the baristas are the real deal. On a side note, I've been coming here since 2015 and I'm not sure if it is just me aging out of the U st corridor, pandemic work/life changes or just a sign of the times but the place feels taken over by gen z these days... I'm a tired millennial lol and I feel old in here

Anna G.

Yelp
One of the best coffee shops in Washington -- their scones are the best you will ever have. Real fruit inside and they aren't dry. So much flavor. They are made fresh in house every morning. Their house roast is also delicious and different than the generic coffee you get at most places. You'll start to crave the taste of the iced coffee after having a few. Inside, before covid, it was always very community oriented. People happily shared tables and worked or met alongside strangers. It's DC so no one really talks to one another but at least you could expect people to be willing to let you sit next to them given the space is small and room is limited.

Whitney G.

Yelp
Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Value: 5/5 ---- I've stopped giving ratings for atmosphere because of COVID and everything is curbside/takeout, but still gave this place 5/5 because it is so apparently cute, even though I didn't even step inside. Definitely a great trendy cafe for when you're showing your friends the city, or if you're lucky enough to have it be your neighborhood coffee spot. I only got the coffee with oat milk (they were out! sad, but luckily almond was in stock), which was just fine. Looking at these reviews, I should have gone with something more crafted! I can't wait to come back and try the cortado or a flat white, and some of their food menu options. Tip - not much shade around the storefront, so order ahead online on their website so you don't waste away in the hot sun like I did.

Georgia T.

Yelp
Incredible coffee shop. The best and smoothest matcha I have had in DC. If you like tea, the iced London Fog, with a shot of lavender added, is delicious. For food, the cinnamon roll offered on the weekend and the breakfast sandwich are so great.

Monica S.

Yelp
Great coffee, staff, and cool vibe! Nothing really to complain about. The coffee was strong, but they did stare at my a little strange when I tried ordering a 8 oz latte. More coffee shops should carry that size. Otherwise, all good! Definitely check this cozy spot out.

Jeongmin H.

Yelp
Loveee the vibes here. Clean, aesthetic, and super friendly workers! Their cookies are also delish

Lily F.

Yelp
We came here on a whim not thinking anything about it and ended up being really impressed. Upon entering we wanted to leave because it was incredibly packed for a little place, but the employees were so friendly that we just started ordering before we knew it. I ended getting an iced latte and splitting a breakfast sandwich with my boyfriend. This little sandwich was amazing and worth the $6. The biscuit was so crumbly and buttery and it went so well with the salad dressing. Yeah, I know. Salad dressing on a breakfast sandwich. But that combined with the perfect egg and cheese made me an absolute fan. The coffee was great too. I will definitely revisit the next time I need to treat myself to some tasty breakfast.

Jill C.

Yelp
Super cute tiny coffee shop. Smells great just walking by from the coffee and pastries. I wish their coffees came in larger sizes
