Art Thieves Nab Priceless Portrait of Big Mario of Pizza Fame - Eater Seattle

"Thien Phat, a Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant on Beacon Hill, has faced multiple break-ins, including three times in 2023. The restaurant has struggled with pandemic-related costs and the repeated burglaries have added to its challenges." - Harry Cheadle

Food is delicious! It's very fresh and presented beautifully. Staff is very friendly and professional. We have been there several times now and will continue to go back!

Google
So I got the Bun Rieu Cua (crab soup w/vermicelli), but the problem was it came with no Rieu (basically meat balls). I get crab is pricey, and they probably want to avoid putting it in a dish they are only charging $14 for, but they could have opted instead to just make the rieu entirely out of ground pork, eggs and crab flavoring. Also noticed a bug (cockroach?) Running behind a clock near the cashier area. The restaurant did get marked down from "excellent" to "good," but it wasn't for pests/vermin. Hopefully, this is addressed before it becomes an systemic. On a much more positive note, front staff is pretty awesome.

We've been going to this restaurant for years! The food stays delicious. The only things that have changed are their servings and prices, which is to be expected with Seattle. However, it's still reasonable that we keep coming back. We often go with a group of 7 or more people, but their service stays quick without taking away from the quality of their food. We've memorized the menu by now! I recommend their broken rice dishes.

I was going to buy a teriyaki next door but it was closed so I decided to check this place out. I ordered the grilled chicken with rice and it was delicious. I also ordered the tofu banh mi and it was better than Saigon deli in my opinion. I will go back again to try other food.

Edit: came back again and tried the Bò Sa Tế (not pictured) per waitress recommendation… this was insane! Pho and viet curry hybrid. Amazing meal. Original review: Great portions and flavor!

We ordered takeout. One of the best restaurants in the neighborhood. Starting from the service and continuing to the the delicious food options with excellent food quality rates ✅ I R E C C O M E N D

Google
Awesome tasting food and service! Meal started out with a flavorful tea. I ordered I believe the Five Spice Chicken (official name may be slightly off). It wasn't hot spicy but a great mix of cinnamon and other spices. My BF ordered the Rice Porridge. It was great as well with a kick of ginger. On the side we had spring rolls that were the biggest I've seen. Service was friendly as well. I'd visit over and over.

Great flavor, good friendly service from Ann. Good portions. Clean spacious place. Air conditioned

Yelp
They have their own parking lot, so parking is easy. The interior is cozy, has carpet and plenty of seating, but felt a bit cluttered with lots of boxes and random stuff on some of the tables to the left and center areas. The price of pho is lower than most restaurants and the food portions are generous. The menu is very extensive and offers both Vietnamese and Chinese food. Ordered the following: Large combination pho - huge bowl of pho, could feed 2 people, broth was standard, noodles were slightly over cooked, and the cuts of beef could be fresher Lunch special with Mongolian beef and noodles - the sauce the beef was cooked in was tasty, the beef was very tough, the noodles tasted good with lots of veggies. I might come back to try other items but would go elsewhere for pho.

Yelp
The food is so tasty. My favorite vermicelli bowl with lemon grass beef and an egg roll. My partner loves the pho. If you get the large make sure you're hungry, it is no joke. The menu is really big so there is something for every one. The food comes very quickly. You can tell it's family run and a neighborhood favorite from the way they chat with the regulars. The place has a homey feel that is low key and comfortable.

Yelp
This is our favorite local spot for a quick bowl of pho or a vermicelli bowl. The food is amazing, the ambiance is relaxed and it often feels like the customers have a longstanding relationship with the owners. So yeah, food is awesome, service is great, and prices are fair.

Yelp
Still a regular haunt for pho. It scratches the itch and is in the rotation. The strip gets targeted. The teriyaki place next door had a shooting and a car backed into doors here to grab some change. Stop in and get some food.

Yelp
Thien Phat is about 5 to 7 minutes south of International District on Rainier Ave S. While I normally go to CID or Little Saigon, I detoured to Thien Phat instead because they have been suffering from break-ins, thefts, and all-around criminal insanity. Since the pandemic, they fell behind on rent and is on the verge of closure after 13 years in business. Their loyal customer base is campaigning for them, and a go-fund-me is open. Vanishing Seattle, "Find Me in Seattle", and NW Asian Weekly have written/posted about them, but progress remains slow. On the day we went (9/17), we drove up to see both their front doors had smashed glass, despite having bars on their doors and windows. From their security cameras, a SUV backed into their doors then used chains to pull the bars/doors open. The only things taken are change, the tip jar, and change for leukemia fund. Sigh. I felt safe when I was there. These petty crimes are more about the cash than intent to harm. They unfortunately leave damages that cause thousands of dollars to fix each time. Seattle, do better for these small businesses! Oanh is the face of the restaurant, and the daughter of the cook. Opening the restaurant is the mom's dream. Oanh is a bubbly and kind server/proprietor. As we dine, we overheard other customers inquiring about their situation. Oanh continues to put on a brave face and that they'll keep the restaurant open for as long as they can. All my friends who live in the area commented that they love this place. So there you have it, give them a try, help them out if you can, find them on gofundme. Parking is easy. They have their own lot. The interior is simple. Staff is minimal during dinner hours as they tend to be busier for lunch. The food came out quickly! The cost is very reasonable, competitive to ID, and much, much lower than the Eastside. The Food: Pho Dac Biet, $12.95 - 5 Stars This is the combo pho with everything. Flavorful broth, lots of protein, fresh meats. No complaints. Mi Dac Biet, $13.95 - 5 Stars This is the egg noodle soup with shrimps, fish balls, and squid. Normally there is pork and ground pork but I asked to skip those. It is huge! I couldn't finish it. The chew of the noodles and the broth are both very good. Goi Cuon Tom, $6.95 - 4.5 Stars Shrimp spring (or fresh) rolls. Well stuffed rolls that filled me up, so I couldn't finish my noodles. Hahaha. Take home dishes (The photos look duller after a long drive): Com Tam Thien Phat, $14.95 - 4.5 Stars Menu: Broken rice with short ribs, shredded pork skin, egg cake, shrimps on a skewer, sunny side up egg An excellent and filling combo dish. It tasted good even after re-heating two days later. I cooked a side of veggies to complement, and this rice dish became two meals. Mi Xao - 2 orders, 1 with beef, 1 with shrimp, $13.95 to $14.95 - 3.5 Stars Menu: Stir fried yakisoba/thin egg noodle with choice of protein and veggies These two noodle dishes weren't as good as the other dishes. The egg noodle is the soft chow mein noodle. I thought it was the type in the noodle soup, which is skinnier and have a better chew. Both dishes didn't have a distinctive flavor. I added seasoning to both when I reheated and re-stir-fried. The portion is excellent though. Side note: Friends suggested their fish sauce wings and lemongrass beef banh mi.

Yelp
Sandwiches are fresh and wonderful. Ingredients are fresh and plentiful. Bread is crusty on the outside and soft and delightful on the inside.

Jane K.

Yelp
A comforting and homey restaurant with yummy classic dishes. Mostly Vietnamese and some Chinese. My sisters and I shared a large pho, combination fried rice and banh mi and it was more than enough!

Yelp
Went on a Friday night and got a seat in the large dining area. Lots of people were coming for take out too. Service was pleasant and helped us to decide on entrees from their large menu. There were over 100 choices to choose from and we went with pho/noodles bowls.

John W.

Yelp
Great food, prices and friendly service. Ive had several dishes; all of which were great. Today I returned and had pho. It was delicious - as good or better than any I've had elsewhere. Try them!!

Yelp
A comforting Asian restaurant w/ a family and local vibe. The food here is excellent and the atmosphere is always welcoming and warm. The lemongrass beef banh mi w/ egg is my favorite in Seattle. My favorite used to be Saigon Deli for years but this one takes the cake. The oxtail pho is fantastic, as is their crab soup w/ udon noodles. Pretty much all of their soup noodle dishes are fantastic. Also highly recommend a hot vietnamese coffee to end the meal.

Marie H.

Yelp
Very good pho. Portions are huge. Like the parking lot in front of the restaurant. Don't forget to pick up some dessert after your meal. We love the pandan coconut jelly.

Nang P.

Yelp
It's always consistent. It's a hole in the wall but tables are always clean. It's in a old building strip. Been going here for over 8-10 years. Beansprouts, lettuce & banana blossoms are always fresh & crunchy. Taste of broth & noodles are always on point. Always super packed on weekends esp. Sunday for lunch. Hope Seattle gets cleaned up so they can stay open longer in the evenings.

Yelp
Their banh mi here is cheap ($4) and delicious. I walk over here for lunch. It seems like they make it for you when you order and not always pre-made which I like and appreciate. I ordered their pho to go. And while it was good, they didn't include any Sriracha or hosin sauce to go, and places typically have it in small containers. There was a lime. Though Sriracha and hosin are usually a given when eating pho. I'm sure if I asked they would have given me it, but they should have already been in there. The service is awesome. The young lady that's always at the front is engaging and makes you feel comfortable.

Steve S.

Yelp
We had delicious, generous vegetarian pho from Thien Phat with the finest customer care. Lovely space to dine, too. Thank you so much!

Yelp
I ordered pho to go from here while I was in the area. The lady working was nice and recommended heating up the soup when I got home to have the best experience. When I got home, I was pleased to find the food was packaged well and it seemed like a pretty large portion. I was, however, disappointed by the broth. The broth was clear but lacking in flavor. The broth can really make or break a bowl of pho, so I don't know if I'll be returning here.

Yelp
This review was for a dine in experince. Delicious pho! Order the large if you have the appetite or go with the small and perhaps the grilled pork spring rolls.
google avatar

Souliphanh V.

Yelp
I have ordered take out before large soup and the vermicelli noodles bowl. The size is generous the two items. Flavor was on point. I went today, the soup was hot and delicious, with viet ice coffee and banh mi sandwich. Consistency stands legit for me, with good flavors.
google avatar

Taylor V.

Yelp
The staff is so incredibly friendly. I enjoy walking in and talking with them. The food is okay. The meat does not taste fresh, maybe it's been frozen for awhile. The banh mi price is unbeatable so we always have to get them. The meat is sometimes dry but the sandwich as a whole is tasty. The pho broth is super delicious though. I didn't even need to add sriracha or hoisin like I usually do. The bun is also very tasty. I would say it's about a 3.5 star place but I can't do a half rank. I'll round up rather than down.
google avatar

Yelp
If you're looking for a steamy bowl of goodness that is pho, look no further than Thien Phat. Their large pho is enough to feed a small army, and at a really reasonable price.
google avatar

Yelp
Good for groups. We frequently come here after church on Sunday's, and they can easily Accommodate. Food is fairly quick and tasty. Lots of people order pho, or banh mi. I ordered bun no hue here for $10.95 for a large bowl. I was stuffed but I could finish it. The soup was flavorful! I was surprised there wasn't the usually meatballs, or pork hock. I'm not a huge fan of the blood so I was ok that they didn't have that. The service was great, the lady was so nice. She knows our entire party!! I would return again and I will probably be there on Sunday.

Yelp
Lately I've been sticking to my go-to's and haven't had the time to try something new... but last Thursday we decided to stop at Thien Phat for a quick dinner. It was super hot outside (like 95 degrees!), so naturally it was SUPER HOT inside -- I mean, not many small restaurants have AC in Seattle, ya know? The server sat us down by a fan and after about five minutes we got used to the heat. I decided to get the bun vermicelli bowl with eggrolls and grilled pork, and my bf got some sort of curry rice? I gotta say that the portion sizes here are enormous! My bun bowl was way bigger than I was expecting, and the food was pretty yummy too. The fish sauce had the perfect amount of sweetness. I was tempted to try one of their avocado smoothies (they advertise that almost all of their smoothies are made with fresh fruit!) but I decided to pass this time since I was already full from my food. I'll be back to try the pho -- and probably the smoothie -- but it'll most likely be on a cooler day... lol.

Stella L.

Yelp
Warning: I'm a harsh pho critic I came here about a year ago and all I can remember is that the noodles were slightly over cooked which made the pho hard to eat. I do remember they had generous portions. Really spacious inside.

Michelle J.

Yelp
Pho and a Vietnamese sandwich!! This place has good pho and the best sandwich. I've eaten here many times and plan to go many more. These are the only two items I order but they are 5 star.

Yelp
Thought we'd check out another local Vietnamese restaurant. They have a nice space and you can definitely tell it's family owned. Overall, I'd say the food is good and probably the same portion sizes as Mai's just down the street. The prices are a little cheaper. We got the fried lobster wontons.... which look exactly like shrimp. I was VERY skeptical about that. They offer a bunch of bubble tea.. tempted to get an avocado smoothie. I tried the bun bo hue and my bf got his usual of vermicelli but it had steak and meatballs. I must say the meatballs were tasty and maybe even a little deep fried. The meat was tender and served with onions. So we went in right after the Super bowl ended and there was a group of people watching the game drinking and gambling on the game. They definitely offered a lot of entertainment. The older gentlemen were fighting and it nearly broke out in a brawl. Free entertainment although we did feel a little sketched out because they started staring at us... we quickly got our food put in to go boxes and went home. I think we'd come back again to try other items because they do offer a variety of things. Overall pretty decent and happy to support local.

Yelp
We were looking around the area for a quick lunch and saw this place, we opted to try it out. It was spacious inside and can accommodate large group. Service was quick and friendly. We ordered fresh shrimp and pork spring rolls, beef vermicelli bowl for my husband and my usual beef and meatball pho. The serving portions for a large bowl is exactly what I expect, a large bowl. Segue, I've noticed that some Vietnamese pho places now serve the "large" portions in a medium bowl and their small portions, in a well, small bowl. So the first thing I noticed, their spring roll is not tightly packed. I'm no stranger to nice and tightly packed spring rolls and their peanut sauce is watery. Next is the pho, the meat is dry like it has been frozen for a long time. I don't know, but I was wondering where they buy their meat while having the pho. Customer service = 5 Serving portions = 5 Food quality = 3 Space = 5 Cleanliness = 4

Erika L.

Yelp
I almost dont want to give this restaurant 5 stars because people will start going here and it will become crowded. Located just a short walk from the light rail, Thien Phat is a great place for lunch or dinner. Their sandwich combos are a great option for just a few dollars. Along with the large assortment of rice and noodle dishes, it makes it a tough choice between pho or another entree. Been coming here for years and love it
google avatar

Robb G.

Yelp
Great Bahn Mi and at a great price. Sandwich menu wasn't on their site. Word of mouth got us here. We like the beef, lemon grass and egg sandwich. The regular lunch/dinner menu looks good but haven't tried it yet.

Ryan M.

Yelp
I've eaten here several times and the food is decent and inexpensive and I would leave four stars...but today I walked my dog through the alley behind the restaraunt. There were bins of carrots and onions left on the ground outside in the alley by the door to the kitchen with no one around. There are rat traps less than 10 feet away, and I have seen live and dead rats in the alley. I walked past again two hours later and the carrots were still there and peeled. I think they are doing prep work outside then leaving it unattended.

Patrice J.

Yelp
My partner and I were wanting a Vietnamese sandwich to eat in the park, we saw Thien Phat and decided to try it. Wow. We were so happy once we sat down on our park bench and unwrapped our sandwiches! First off the price was right, two combo pork/chicken sandwiches loaded with yummy vegetables, fresh and pickled alike, for only $13. I thought the sandwiches were big enough to eat half and save the rest for later but I couldn't quit eating. So delicious! Also, I've had quite a few of these Vietnamese sandwiches throughout the years and one thing I noticed is not all places get the bread right. Thien Phat gets the bread right! IMO. It was crispy and crunchy on the outside and not dense and spongy on the inside. It was just delicious French bread, not a hoagie bun which is fine but not for the Vietnamese sandwich. The woman who served us was kind and helpful and made us feel instantly welcome. While I waited for our sandwiches I sat and watched a show with college dancers on the tv in the corner and enjoyed the spiritual ambience of the alter with fruit, incense and the Buddha. The whole experience was just so comforting and I needed that , so thank you Thien Phat. I will return.

Yelp
Food: 6 Value: 9 Cleanliness: 8 Good value for your money. Food was OK, not screaming amazing. Place was cleaner than the typical Asian restaurant with a big screen TV. Had Hu Tieu and it was OK. Meat was tender but something was amiss to not making it great
google avatar

Roni W.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants. Service is great and friendly. This woman runs the front alone and always seems to make everyone feel good while making sure the food is prompt and delicious. I love the energy and food here. Definitely have to try the smoothies and bahn mi sandwiches

Yelp
I'm so sad to give them this rating. Their service is amazing but the food is really something else and not really in a good way. I've eaten here multiple times because I keep telling myself to give them another shot, maybe I'll like the food but every time I eat here, I am disappointed. The other day I ordered bun bo hue and asked them to make it spicy. I saw my bowl and it was abnormally red like it just came from the devil himself LOL. Usually it's not that red, though. but i had gotten what i asked for. the noodles however were quite unappetizing. they were way too soft that i basically wasted food. the thing that bothered me the most was that instead of using the usual meat they use for bun bo hue, they used the brisket meat from the pho. I ended up not finishing my bowl because I didn't really want to eat it anymore. I've also had their bun thit nuong cha gio and it was alright too. Cha gio wasn't really my favorite and the thit nuong is a little salty (but that's my opinion since we all taste things differently). But every time i order this. the noodles didn't seem fresh, it seemed like it was reheated because of how stiff it looks when you refrigerate noodles. Other than that, the servers always really nice and are patient. I just don't think I will eat here again.
google avatar

Yelp
Vietnamese/Chinese fusion spot with a huge selection of items to choose from. Portion sizes are large and prices are reasonable. Tried the pan fried noodles w combination meat and could not finish due to the sheer amount. Wished the seafood was of better quality but was satisfied. They do offer pho and bun bo hue which seemed to be fairly popular.
google avatar

Nate A.

Yelp
The food was not the best. You can find much better Chinese-Vietnamese food at many other restaurants. The instant pho noodles package even taste better than what I just had. There are a great selection on the menu but I have tried several and not really that great. The restaurant is in a convenient location. If you are super hungry and want to get something to fill your stomach. It's doable. The only thing that make me not want to come back here is the service from the server. The service sucks. I have come here a few times. I tried to give the restaurant an opportunity to see if I get any better service. Disappointed :( I would have tipped more and wouldn't mind to stop if I'm hungry and on the road if the service was great. Together bad food and bad service. Yikes :(
google avatar

Karissa S.

Yelp
I am unsure as to why everyone has rated this restaurant so low! I had the brisket and steak pho and spring rolls with a friend this weekend and thought the pho was decent. I read a past review that stated they wouldn't eat pho from a place that doesn't smell like pho...so does that mean you want your restaurant to smell like feet? Because that is what pho typically smells like. That makes no sense to me! I did not like the spring rolls, and I believe its is more of a preference as opposed to there being something fundamentally wrong with the roll. I didn't enjoy the thick glass noodles that they had in the roll nor did I care for the filling flavoring with the meat and veggies. The pho was good, nothing outstanding but definitely not the worst I have had. The meat seemed fresh enough and the broth was flavorful. They brought out more than enough fresh basil and beansprouts, which I appreciated! I dislike when restaurants skimp on the basil! They would have received 4 stars had the service been better. I waited quite a while for someone to take our order and they didn't fill our water cups until we were ready to leave. I won't be back but I do not regret at least trying this place out!

Doctor M.

Yelp
I was basically raised on Thien Phat and now that I'm 21 I can't stop myself from getting a Bahn Mi whenever I'm back in town! The food is of course amazing, price competitive and fair, the staff is so kind and really always makes me and my family feel so incredibly welcome. No place I'd rather eat in seattle, it truly feels like an extension of home! If you're dining in I recommend the crispy rice noodles!!
google avatar

Namhee L.

Yelp
Ordered the steak pho and some spring rolls. Spring rolls were just okay, I've definitely had better. The sauce was also really runny and lacking flavor. My table also ordered a salad and 2 vermicelli bowls (1 shrimp and the other pork w/ egg roll). My pho was mediocre, I was so excited because I was so hungry but was sadly unimpressed. The soup wasn't very beefy either, tasted a bit watered down. The pieces of steak were also not very appetizing, I didn't eat much of the meat. My table enjoyed their food, their dishes looked a lot better than mine. Maybe next time I'll try a noodle dish instead. Gave 3 stars since my group enjoyed their food.

mary s.

Yelp
Great food. Very accommodating. Ann is the daughter and order taker. Her mom is the cook. Delicious food! They aim to please. They serve Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese. I asked for the Vietnamese Me Sow Young. No trouble. I asked for more basil in the papaya salad. Done. Iced coffee. Easy access. Decent portions. Worth a visit- or 2! I tend to go every 2 weeks, sometimes more. I love the papaya salad, Me Sow Young, and the Pad Thai. Have it your way, and go to Thien Phat!

Yelp
On of my favorite places to get bahn mi and pho. They have an extensive menu - something for everyone.

Chy L.

Yelp
We came here for some noodles because my friend and I were looking for a spot near his house that will fill us up fast. I ordered the spicy beef soup with egg noodles (#36) and their egg soda. My friend ordered egg noodles with veggies and beef (#45). As for the appetizer, we got the fresh spring rolls with meatballs. Let me just say that the food did in fact fill us up.. But we weren't very satisfied with the taste of the food. My noodle soup went well with the egg noodles, but I thought something else was missing with the soup itself. I have never tried spring rolls with meatballs so we thought we'd give it a shot. The spring rolls were okay, I've had better. I thought the wrapper were not prepared right because I bit into the spring rolls and it was super chewy and I felt some hard spots like it wasn't soaked in water long enough. The egg soda was probably the best thing I ordered. It was interesting, being told the fact that there was in fact raw eggs in the drink.. But it turned out delicious.

Yelp
Came here as impulse stop while driving visiting family throughout the city. This place has a little bit of everything. So if you're with a group and don't want to just choose pho, rice dishes, noodle dishes, or sandwiches, this place gives you options. The price ain't bad either. Thumbs up for catering to groups and dish options. Staff was really sweet. We lost track of time while catching up and they let us stay a little bit longer. We totally felt bad for losing track, but they were super sweet about it while continuing to refill drinks and check on us. Glad we found this place.

Yelp
I'm always in search of GREAT Pho! My friends Anh N and Huan D introduced me to this "oldey but goody" spot. Stars given for: *************** baby mushrooms and lots of veggies: I love the veggie pho especially because of all the fresh veggies including baby mushrooms... YOU HAVE TO LOVE THAT! =D *****Clean and spacious! *****Convenience in my hood! *****Coolio price! ***Okay service

Yelp
I got the bun vermicelli bowl with pork and it was very good the second best I have had. It very large and with all the other dishes we got I still finished it. We also got some pot stickers and honey walnut prawns. Both were good but not as amazing as my dish. My sister got a vegetable dish that was really good. Ap Choa Chay, Crispy Wide Egg noodles with Vegetables and tofu. Nice people and from looking at the food that others were getting I so want to come back and try more things.
google avatar

Craig L.

Yelp
They have Vietnamese and Thai food but I recommend sticking to Vietnamese as the chefs are all from Vietnam! Very good Vietnamese place, one of the best in that area for sure. Can't go wrong with a chicken or pork vermicelli bowl there. It's a very good size portion. They have a tv with football on usually as well as music playing so it livens it up a little too! Service could use some improvement but overall still very good place to eat!

Yelp
We're shopping at Mekong market a lot and decided to give this place a try and it was good. The pho soup have excellent great. One thing that I want to see change is their carpets are smelled bad. Needs some cleaning done. Inside is large, great for family and friends if you have big group for lunch or dinner.

Adam B.

Yelp
Great spot for grabbing a sandwich or sitting down to some stew and noodles with the family! More diverse menu than most, and they do it all well.

Yelp
I passed this place on my way to work for weeks without trying it. The exterior looked, well, shifty and run-down and I was tired of so many forgettable grimy pho huts. But I got dragged in one day and was pleasantly surprised. Service was better than par. The decor was a bit shabby but clean. Menu variety and price is very good. The vietnamese sandwiches were delicious. And they give generous helpings on the Spring Rolls, (one of my fave dishes) and they're not just stuffed with lettuce filler (although I prefer a creamier peanut sauce)! Also, just an opinion and all, but I dig that they serve hot tea in large cups instead of those tiny teacups you can empty in one gulp. It's my new fave lunchbreak spot.
