I love a little jiggle. Jiggle in my Jello. Jiggle in the booty. Jiggle in my pancakes? I'm still on the fence about it.
I was, and still am, ecstatic about the arrival of the first Japanese style soufflé pancakes in the Twin Cities. The more diverse the cities can be, the better. I think it's a cool take on pancakes, and the cafe itself is nestled in a great location on Grand Ave that makes it perfect for stopping in for a bite. If you have more than hour, that is. As a party of 4, we were lucky to even grab a spot, since the interior is pretty small, but once seated, we could appreciate how CUTE this place is. Seriously. It was designed for pictures, I'm sure. It did take a long while to get our food, since we all ordered pancakes and drinks. I'm sure some of the kinks will be worked out as they open for business longer.
Of the pancakes, the matcha delight and the ube were fantastic! Stay awayy from the classic though unless you really like bland - it just tasted like sugar. All of them were on the sweet side, like seriously dessert sweet, so I wouldn't peg this place as a brunch/breakfast joint unless you have a sweet tooth. We also split a matcha love, which was even more sweet, but really good. The sweetened condensed milk reminded me a little of my childhood - in a good way. Drinks are your standard fare, nothing to write home about.
I'd love to go back and try a smoothie bowl or avocado toast if I'm in the area, but after the niche feeling of the place wears off, I don't know if Thirty-Six cafe has made a fan out of me. Not worth a trip specifically for their food, but definitely worth a try if you're in the area!
