Very cute place for ice cream. Some of the finest ice cream I’ve ever enjoyed. It is very rich. Paying cash is what they prefer, but they accept credit. You may have to take some time to figure out what you want. They have over 20 flavors. It’s good enough for Obama: enough said.

This place is probably the top spot for great ice cream in DC. Little bit of a line but lots of great flavors and awesome staff. Worth the wait!

Our bus driver, Will, recommended stopping here, and we certainly didn't regret it! I had the rum and raisin ice cream which I have not been able to find for many years. It was good and the service was quick, even though there were 26 of us. I recommend having cash on hand, especially if they are very busy.

This is must go to place- the options are endless and the service is swift. Don’t let the queues discourage you- they move fast. Try the fro yo (sugar free was as good ) And the swirl too!

The ice cream is good. Coffee and Tiramisu were great. Mango was good and pistachio was okay. I got some truffles and the packaging was terrible. They said they had boxes only for 24 truffles or more. The order sizes are huge. A kids scoop was too much. For a place visited by the President of US, I expected better.

Although the shop is well-liked, I regret to say that the ice cream is excessively sweet. We were unable to finish even two small cups of it. However, they do offer a wide variety of flavors and homemade chocolate options.

Classic ice cream spot with tons of flavors! Ambiance & Service: Classic ice cream shop vibe with plenty of indoor seating. Service was quick, but double-check your size if you want the kids' small! I thought I ordered the smallest size and it ended up being their traditional small! Butterbrickle Ice Cream with Oreos: Smooth, creamy, and delicious! The butterscotch/toffee flavor is a must-try. TL;DR: Great spot for creamy ice cream--don't miss the Butterbrickle!

They've got it all -- ice cream, chocolates, swag, and ICE CREAM CAKES. I have not had one of those since I was a kid, but ice cream cakes... there's something magical about them. Anyways, I saw immediately that they had a Nutella flavor, but once I got finished sampling a few other contenders (they were quite strict about the number of samples per person), my cup of that ended up being a winner. Overall the staff weren't as friendly as I'm used to experiencing in ice cream shops. They've been around a while, and I see that they're in NJ as well. And the entire time, whether it was an exciting conversation or an upset, someone was shouting in the back. I didn't know what was going on XD. I stopped in because I wanted to support one of the smaller chains... next time I will probably have an ice cream cake :).

It's been awhile since I visited one of my favorite ice cream shop. They didn't disappoint. Same fast yet great customer service, many tasty flavors to choose from, and generous portions. I highly recommend getting their fresh tasty waffle cone with your order. My eyes were DEFINITELY bigger than my stomach when craving my three favorite flavors- rum raisin, amaretto, and coffee heath bar in their fresh made and tasty waffle cone. The coffee heath bar is not is an overly strong coffee flavor but you definitely taste the coffee flavor on the first lick then followed by crunchy heath bar pieces. The Amaretto has a mild almond crème based flavor. The rum raisin is a mild crème based flavor with very light rum flavoring and raisins all throughout. Rum raisin is my all time favorite ice cream and I'm picky because it's hard to find one that's flavorful with right balance of soft raisin pieces in it. Thomas Sweet has done it right! They also had samples of the heath bar fudge which was really good. Smooth and flavorful. Their fudge always looks so fresh and tasty. I wish they would sell it in smaller portions. I just can't eat that much. I recommend giving it a try as well.

Standard ice cream spot with a ton of flavors and toppings available. My friends and I ultimately got two cups to share amongst the three of us. We got lemon sorbet and Oreo in one cup then mango and Dulce de leche in another. There was an okay amount of seatings outside but the only down side is that there are some bees flying around which makes it less enjoyable to consume the ice cream.

A million flavors to choose from. I got the tiramisu and I'm honestly always weary of cake-inspired ice cream because I find them heavy + I don't love cake/cookie/dough chunks in my ice cream (controversial opinion, I know). But I loved this flavor! Perfect hint of coffee + cream and perfectly reminiscent of tiramisu. Expensive yes but in keeping with the astronomical rise in ice cream flavors as of late and I always prefer to support small businesses. Also, pretty heaping scoop size -- they don't skimp! Note: During busy times they don't accept card, so bring cash just in case.

Good and fair priced ice cream shop in Georgetown! They stay open really late which is a plus. Went at 9:30pm and there was a line. It seemed like they were the only place open at that time. We waited for about 20 min so it wasn't too bad. Plenty of seats for dine in (inside and out). There's a credit card minimum. The ice cream itself is very good! Lots of different flavors to choose from. I had the banana split and finished the whole thing by myself!

Who can say no to late night ice cream that offers TONS of flavor options?! Made it to Thomas Sweet at around 10:30pm because I needed some chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream! I just had to have a cone. The line is usually out the door, but it moves pretty quick. The inside is rather small, so most people enjoy their cones outside BUT they do have a small seating area. They offer pints to take home as well as ice cream cookies and cakes. Coffee and chocolates are also available as well. It's a great place to get a tasty treat.

It's becoming less common to see a homemade ice cream/yogurt/sorbet shop these days. The staff was kind, you can tell they had a lot of pride in their work. Being lactose-in-tolerant, I can't tolerate ice cream very well, so when I see so many frozen yogurt choices, I get a giddy feeling, I just want to eat everything! My husband and I ordered a few flavors to go, and it was such a delicious creamy treat, walking up the streets of the heart of Georgetown, on a super hot summer day. I can't wait to visit again and give them my business.

Top 3 in DC. Ice cream is so creamy. So many options inside and they also offer an array of toppings. Staff is really nice and prices are very reasonable for Georgetown. Highly recommend!

I've been coming here since I was a kid. This is definitely a great place to come for ice cream, sorbet, frozen yogurt, fudge or icecream cakes! They have indoor and outdoor sitting. Staff is always super generous with sizes! The picture below is a small btw! You gotta check it out. Soo many incredible flavors to choose from the chalk board! Ps. Better to probably walk here but if you're lucky you can finding a parking spot, but remember it's G'town!

I'm probably biased because we lived two blocks away from TS for years, but as my kids say, "It's the best ice cream in the world." Even former President Obama probably agrees. We saw him there once on Father's Day! The complaints about cleanliness here are all 100 percent valid, I'm sorry to report. But there's a reason there's always a line here, which typically winds out the door and around the corner. The ice cream is just the best. The biggest Thomas Sweet challenge in summer nights in DC is finishing your cone before it all melts!

I stumbled upon this infamous dessert spot by accident and I don't quite understand the hype. The portion sizes and variety were impressive but the cleanliness and taste were far below average. I had incredibly negative first impressions given how sticky the floors, tables and surfaces were. Gloves weren't being changed and someone behind the counter was counting coins and picking them off the floor. Sanitary conditions definitely weren't a priority. There was a $7 minimum for card so bring cash otherwise. Besides the vast number of ice creams offered, there were pints and premade ice cream sandwiches in the nearby freezers. Smoothies and shakes were available although I was unimpressed by the watery consistency. I ordered a regular strawberry which came with three hefty scoops. It tasted like the artificial bulk buy at Costco. The ice cream was on the harder side and very sweet. I didn't add on any toppings as they weren't refilled and crumbly. One of the least memorable ice cream shops I've been to and nothing to rave about.

This old-fashioned ice cream parlor truly lives up to its reputation! On a pretty hot day, I decided to keep things simple with a strawberry waffle cone, and it the flavor was on par. Who doesn't like a crunchy waffle cone? The ambiance of Georgetown added to the experience, making it feel like a day spent shopping. If you're looking for a classic ice cream spot that delivers on quality and charm, this is the corner to be!

Walked here because I was bored and depressed and this place def cured me. I got the cake batter ice cream in a cone and it was great. They also give you a good amount for your money. Thank you Thomas Sweet for making my night better. I will be back so watch out.

Some of the best ice cream I've had in DC! There are so many flavors to choose from and even though the line is usually out the door, they keep it moving. The cookies and cream, chocolate peanut butter, and coffee oreo flavors are exceptional! There is a surprisingly decent amount of indoor seating to escape the summer heat, and a few tables outside as well. Also, there are chocolates and candies you can buy that adds another fun element to the shop.

Thomas Sweet is a nice ice cream parlor in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. I've visited a few times and there always seems to be a craze, but only because the inside of the parlor is small and tight. Normally I would drive by or stop in and the line would be out the door and shoulder to shoulder on the inside. However, I appreciate that the guys working here are very good at taking orders and keeping the line moving. This place has an exhaustive menu of ice cream flavors. You can sample flavors, too. They offer a good balance of traditional and novelty flavors. The ice cream in the freezer display is not labeled, which could be contributing to the delay when customers order as what they read on the menu might not be what they're eyeing in the freezer display which might cause a bit of confusion. They also offer a variety of serving sizes for their cups ranging from small to quart. The ice cream quality itself is standard. I wouldn't necessarily classify it as high-end ice cream. This place is the quintessential, nostalgic, ice cream parlor and the prices are commensurate. When visiting keep in mind this ice cream parlor is located on a residential street, parking is terrible. Give them a try.

I think this had the best dulce de leche ice cream I've ever tried. The line was out the door, but service was still quick and personal once we got to the counter. It's a bit pricey for a single scoop, but on par with other desserts in Georgetown.

Thomas Sweet is a DC institution and a solid spot for some classic ice cream flavors. They offer a variety of flavors, and you'll always see the classics here. Although the price is high for a regular cup, they are generous servings. I paid $8.50 for my medium cup, but there were 4 scoops of ice cream in there! They also have a variety of toppings you can add on, as well as sorbets, frozen yogurts, and cakes. Given how packed the place was, I thought the service was very efficient. While it's not necessarily a spot I'd travel across the city to get to on its own, it's definitely a good neighborhood treat when I'm in Georgetown.

Sadly, not the same Thomas Sweet While always busy, service was always efficient and thoughtful. Not anymore, it seems. Typically, when placing a larger order, they would keep the pints in the freezer until all were ready to check-out. This time, not only were they left out, but they must have been put near something warm as my 4 pints of ice cream were more like very soft serve. Should have checked before I left .... Hopefully, it was just an off day. But don't think I'll return to find out.

Had sky high expectations for such a well spoken off establishment, however, the shop is difficult to find and when you do you wish you hadn't. Dingy, old, and verging on sanitary storefront. Super large space behind the counter so I spent five minutes awkwardly conversing with an amiable homeless gentleman I thought was the owner because he was the only person who made himself known. Amount of flavors is overwhelming listed on chalk board with small spacing. You end up giving up on trying to find something you might really want and just buy any flavor. $8 minimum for card payments, and they roll your cone in lots of sprinkles if you order them! The ice cream: is bland and almost flavorless. Had a stale, frozen industrial freezer feel. I mean it tasted like a freezer, not the brand name ice cream in it which is much better than whatever this is. Overall, I felt like I'd been scammed. I didn't want to finish my cone which was dripping everywhere from not being packed well. Worst ice cream I've ever had at a an ice cream shop, needless to say, I won't be coming back.

The ice cream is a little mediocre here. It's not bad, but it is kinda lacking in flavor. Also, you can only try two flavors - which when the first two you try aren't great doesn't make you want to get a scoop. The coffee oreo is their "top seller" and it's not bad but again, lacks flavor. The service is just fine - but really if someone didn't like the two flavors they sampled it seems like you should let them try a third especially when there's no line. The ambiance is fine - a little sterile with three large cafeteria like tables stuffed on the side. There was also a flavor or two in the display with tons of ice crystals.

I've been going here since I went to school at GW back in 2015. There is a bit of lacking in the cleaniless department, however the portion sizes and taste are immaculate. Ambiance - 3/5: Seating both outside and inside, but nothing special about the ambiance of this place. Definitely some to be desired in terms of cleanliness. Price - 4/5: Not bad pricing for ice cream based on portion sizes but it is a tad bit expensive. Food - 5/5: If this review was just based on the food, then it would be a 5/5 for sure. The coffee oreo is my favorite in a cone and it never fails to hit the spot. They also have a ton of options for flavors and toppings. Service - 5/5: Even when went as college students, late at night, the workers were always friendly and willing to help. My only issue is with the cleanliness of the location which could be improved for sure. This place is a 3/5 only due to lack of a great ambiance and cleaning, however only based on food it is a 5/5 so take that as you will.

It's not just that they have ice cream, frozen yogurt and sorbet under one roof. They have multiple flavors for each of them. Great on a hot Washington day.

I went here through a recommendation of my Lyft driver. He said the ice cream was good and the both Joe Biden and Obama went there. So obviously, J had to go. Run by two Indian guys. The ice cream was delicious and they give you plenty of scoops. There were so many flavors and I was intimidated to ask to taste any flavors because the line was out the door on a Monday. So I went with a classic cookies n cream with almonds and more Oreos. I think I got a medium size because the small looked tiny, but the medium had four scoops in it so that was a bit much. I ended up eating it all anyway because it was some of the best ice cream I could eat. They have cookies, plenty of toppings choices, frozen yogurt, and customized flavors. I will have to go back!

I use to come here until I seen several big fat mouses eating the sweet ice cream cone. Been sighted for mouse droppings in ice cream by Washington DC department of health.

Five of us walked here on a Saturday night after dinner elsewhere in Georgetown. The line was wrapped around the block. But the line moved quickly. I got the pistachio and banana. I would get the banana again! The ice cream was so creamy!!! I want to come back and try more flavors. I was impressed with the large selection of flavors of both ice cream and frozen yogurt. There are only a few tables. So, we could not sit once we got our ice cream. I got the small size and it was huge! Highly recommend!!!!

For an old fashioned ice cream that's been consumed by several presidents including Obama and Biden, this is the stop for ice cream in the DC area. Even on a rainy day, there were still people lining up for ice cream. I got the large size with mango and tiramisu. The mango was delicious with fresh mango flavor. It's not the best I've had because it doesn't have large mango chunks, but it's still worth the order. I also loved the light tiramisu flavor - something I can't get anywhere else. Definitely a spot to visit in the DC area and especially worth the trek to Georgetown. I'm still thinking of the ice cream there now that I'm back on the West Coast.

Lots of different flavors and seems to be a super popular ice cream shop after dinner! Thomas Sweet also opens late (11 PM or 12 AM depending on the day) so definitely a huge plus if you're walking around Georgetown late at night and craving something sweet. ONE SCOOP (NO TOPPINGS) - 5.55 After tax, it's about $6.10, but they give you two mini scoops here! My friend and I got the Oreo flavor to share. I thought there wasn't enough Oreos/cookies, but overall, still a great treat. The ice cream is also pretty smooth. Another pair of friends shared the tiramisu flavor, which I enjoyed more in terms of taste (and it's not as basic of an option)! Overall, would recommend. Next time, I'll definitely try a more unique flavor here.

Simply delicious ice cream. Thomas Sweet has a gazillion ice cream flavors that you can choose from, and out of all of them, I went with the coffee oreo ice cream on top of a waffle cone (~$6). It was delicious and well worth the price. It was both creamy and flavorful from the cookies and coffee. It wasn't too rich and thick as some other ice cream places that I've tried. I went with friends on a weekday night, and there were a good amount of people waiting outside for some ice cream. Overall, a must try if you're in Georgetown!

Got the peppermint ice cream and liked it. It was slightly overpriced though. It was fun to get a scoop from an ice cream shop that President Biden and President Obama had visited! Would be open to trying another flavor next time!

Ice cream is comparable to any local, homemade ice cream shop. The ice cream is rather over-priced and long lines can make or break my decision to go. However, they have great fudge, ice cream cookie sandwiches, and chocolate truffles. Going at off-times is probably best

It was a 90 degree weather day which obviously calls for an ice cream stop after walking around Georgetown and shopping. Thomas Sweet is a classic that I've heard so many good things about, and finally got to try it out. Since it was so hot, of course there was a line outside their building. There's both outdoor and indoor seating available, but luckily we were able to grab an inside table to escape the heat. Cash is preferred but credit and debit cards are taken for a $7 minimum purchase. There are so many flavors to choose from, and even frozen yogurt and vegan options as well. After choosing your flavor, you can decide between plain ice cream, sundaes, or milkshakes. There are also various cone options and toppings that can be added to truly have the most customizable experience. If you aren't interested in their ice cream they sell fresh homemade fudge as well. I went with chocolate chip cookie dough and mint chocolate chip in a cup. Even inside the store, the ice cream was melting quickly so I didn't want to deal with the mess of having a cone. Both flavors I got were delicious, but the cookie dough really stood out to me. The dough pieces were amazing and the vanilla ice cream was great. This is a great ice cream spot and will definitely be a new stop for our ice cream cravings next time we're in Georgetown!

My husband has been coming here since he was a kid and talking it up. We visited tonight with our kids and it did not disappoint and was even better than he hyped it up to be. The blended ice cream with flavors was incredible and enough to share. We will make Thomas Sweet a tradition every time we're in DC

They were unfortunately out of quite a few flavors but they have a lot to choose from to begin with. It would've been nice to have signs on the menu when they run out of a certain flavor or item. The prices are also a little higher than I like but I'll have to go back and try more flavors to see if it's worth it. What we got: Bittersweet milkshake - 5* really great flavor. The dark chocolate is not too sweet and is really perfect. It was a great shake to sip and enjoy.

This place was horrid never come here as soon as I stepped in I saw the workers not wearing gloves and it was just over all really unsanitary they were aslo really rude And most of all the toppings had flies on top but I have to say that the ice cream is not bad

I really, really dislike this place. The ice cream is okay but the service and "policies" are terrible . "$8 minimum on credit card" (just a bit higher than a basic cone cost!?),"don't take a cup they are not free", "please pay cash if the line is long because credit card takes longer" (yeah right!), "camera in use"... also dirty as heck. Lots of other options in the area, please find somewhere else until these jokers get enlightened about how to treat customers.
