Overall we had a nice stay here and the hotel checked almost all the major boxes.
The room was spacious, clean, and contemporary. There was plenty of natural light and a nice view. More importantly, the mattress was not worn out on our visit and was comfortable, not hurting our backs. The water pressure and temperature in the shower were both good. Since this was a business trip and this property seems to cater at least partly to business people, the only complaint is that there was no desk in the room. The couch is the only real furniture to sit on and it was very uncomfortable for doing work. There is a coffee shop as part of the hotel, but we didn't want to pay for a drink and possibly be exposed to COVID every day just to have a place to work.
The front desk, room service, and housekeeping staff were all friendly and helpful. There is a printed limited menu for room service in the room. We had trouble dialing the extension on the menu on the house phone and the room service button on the phone did not go through either. After several tries we finally got someone. For a comparable breakfast and like at most hotels, we got a comparable/better meal the day before for half the price at a walkable local restaurant.
There is a free car (you need to tip the driver) to take you to places within 3 mi of the hotel. Unlike other complimentary car services at comparable hotels that offer this service, the one here will only drop you off and NOT pick u up. This is still a good deal because it saves you half the ride share cost. Still a nice perk/deal at this property.
Arrival is a little confusing for first time guests as the hotel lobby is on the 7th floor and the elevator opens to the rear. There are hotel staff in the building lobby to direct guests, but still strange for first time visitors used to more traditional hotel setups.
There is a nice complimentary appetizer available from 5-8 next to a small bar in the lobby. The hotel restaurant was closed for renovations during our visit. There seems to be another restaurant in the building lobby, but we did not try it. There is another restaurant in the lot on the corner which is an upscale steak house that we did try, Toca Madera, see our review of that.
Overall, a good experience here. Would stay here on the company dime again and recommend you give them a try. If vacationing in Downtown Houston, there seem to be other accommodations closer to the nightlife/shopping areas, but you can always get the free car service to drop you there. We did one night to eat and it was not far by car.
