Thompson San Antonio - Riverwalk

"Why book? It’s a hip hangout for a fashionable crowd. Set the scene Everyone here seems to be celebrating something—an engagement, a birthday, the fact that it’s Friday—and they dress the part. Blazers and bodycon dresses are the norm. The backstory When it opened its doors in February 2021, the hotel became the second Texas property in the Thompson portfolio, joining the Dallas outpost ahead of Austin and Houston openings. This location exudes the same contemporary style the brand is known for. The rooms The rooms are equal parts moody and industrial with dark wood and rich leather accents, but there are also “Texas-inspired touches” like cowhide rugs and Ranch Water in the mini-fridge. Upgrade to one of 33 suites for indoor-outdoor spaces, fully stocked wet bars, and mod soaking tubs. Food and drink The Moon’s Daughters takes high tea to a new level at the rooftop lounge, pairing CBD-infused bites with oolong, chai, and unobstructed skyline views. In contrast, James Beard Award–finalist chef Steve McHugh is all about the Earth’s bounty, focusing on hyperlocal ingredients and Argentinian grilling techniques at Landrace. Go on Tuesdays for happy hour bites and a sampling of a special wine, spirit, or beer—your first tasting is on the house. The spa Treatments run the gamut from a river rock massage (perfect after a long day exploring the River Walk) to a body polish that uses rose crystals harvested from the Andes. A co-ed steam room, sauna, and relaxation lounge round out the experience. The neighborhood/area The hotel brings the party to an otherwise low-key part of town, but both the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts and the San Antonio Museum of Art are within walking distance. The service The personable staff is quick to attend to any need or member of the family, including Fido (pets stay free). Eco effort To cut down on single-use plastics, each guest receives an aluminum bottle that can be filled at a Vero water machine with room-temperature, chilled, or sparkling water. Anything left to mention? Come summertime, there are weekly pool parties, featuring frozé and local DJs." - Tommie Ethington

An impeccably maintained and beautifully designed hotel that delivers a truly five-star experience. From the moment we arrived, every detail exuded elegance and thoughtful luxury. We were upgraded to a suite that felt nothing short of extraordinary — expansive, exquisitely furnished, and offering stunning views through large windows that gave it a penthouse feel. The quality of the bedding, pillows, and modern interiors, paired with luxurious amenities, created an atmosphere of refined comfort. From valet parking to check-in, every touchpoint was seamless, enhanced by a warm welcome with champagne — a classy touch that set the tone for our stay. The common areas, from the spotless corridors to the pristine pool and bathrooms, were all meticulously maintained. The service throughout the hotel, especially at the restaurants, was exceptional — attentive and professional. While the food itself was underwhelming and didn’t quite match the overall standard, it did little to dampen the overall experience. This hotel is absolutely worth a visit, and we look forward to returning.

Had a great experience at Thompson SA. As a Hyatt Globalist, I received an upgrade and generous breakfast credit, and the staff were consistently friendly and helpful. Breakfast itself was fantastic, with incredibly accommodating servers. I particularly loved the unique and beautiful art throughout the hotel. The rooftop bar was understandably busy on a Friday, and I'd advise making a reservation if you plan to visit. While I couldn't get a table inside, they kindly let me enjoy a cocktail on the deck, and I was happy to have the rest of my meal in my room. I'll definitely be back—this Thompson truly stands out among other Hyatt properties.

The whole experience was a great time. Room was great. Pool was great. But, if I had to emphasize one thing, it would be the work ethic and genuine customer service Kevin provided. He’s usually overnight but every chance I got to interact with him he had the biggest smile, was super helpful and most positive attitude. I enjoyed his front desk energy!

The service and cleanliness of this hotel is amazing. Every single staff member went above and beyond. The rooftop bar was amazing, we hosted a private party, and again the service was excellent. Everyone is so accommodating. |Aziz and the whole valet staff were absolutely amazing and friendly! Definitely will stay here again!! The best!

I threw my best friends birthday party at the Thompson rooftop pool. Her words for me the next day were “That was epic!”. I couldn’t have helped celebrated her birthday without the Help from Garrett and all the pool staff for making everything so memorable and treated us like celebrities. Let’s not forget the DJ throwing it down with the beats too! Definitely had us vibing for sure. Thank you all to the Thompson staff for such great hospitality. Definitely recommend!

When you first walk in it smells amazing, my mom and I wanted to have dinner and catch up and we picked the best spot. Albert was our server and he was amazing he recommended a variety of things and had so much knowledge of each thing describing cheese and the tequila for the drink I ordered but really in depth it was pretty amazing above and beyond, he seemed very passionate describing everything and answering all our questions. The end of the night he walked my mom and I to the outside balcony and it really set the mood. It was truly a great experience it was also our first time dinning there so will definitely go back and ask for Albert forsure. The sunset from our table while finishing up dinner was amazing.

The Thompson Hotel in San Antonio offers a luxurious and stylish stay right in the heart of downtown. From the moment you arrive, the valet service sets the tone—professional, efficient, and welcoming. Check-in is smooth and friendly, with the front desk staff making you feel right at home. The rooms are a highlight: modern, spacious, and thoughtfully designed with upscale touches that make your stay feel special. The pool area is a great place to relax with a good atmosphere, although I did witness two employees behaving inappropriately toward some women at the bar, they were like lions looking at their pray. Pretty disgusting, this was disappointing and out of place for a hotel of this caliber. On a positive note, the hotel’s restaurants are excellent, offering a range of quality dishes and cocktails that match the overall high standard of the property. With just a bit more attention to staff conduct by the pool, the Thompson could be near perfect.

Google
Chris (Cruz?)and Aziz from the valet this morning were exceptional. Efficient service with kind smiles! The rooms were gorgeous and we even had a view of the river walk! The pool deck was so relaxing and all of the staff were welcoming. I definitely will return.

Yelp
This was our first time visiting The Thompson. We decided to spend New Year's weekend and let me say our beloved La Cantera may be downgraded. The room was so beautifully designed, modern and hip!! Purposely didn't put pictures so you could be surprised like we were. And the bathroom The very best part, they allow doggies!! It's 100% pet friendly. So we were VERY happy. But the one complaint is this and I know I'm not the only one to mention, but no designated dog potty area. It was kinda strange. We walked along the river which wasn't bad at all. As matter fact, there's a walkway jetting down to the river from the hotel very convenient. We will definitely be returning.

Yelp
Not Quality *Booked a 2 Queen Bedroom but the beds are not queens. *Shower glass enclosure leaked on bathroom floor every time, making the "marble" tiles very slick. *Bathroom barn style door was so squeaky loud, waking everyone during the night and has big gaps, not private. *Discovered we were missing top sheets, only had duvets. Asked front desk about it. Reply was, "yeah.... there are some rooms without them because we're trying to get caught up on laundry". Then she asked if we wanted them? "Uhh Yes, we had to sleep under the duvet, I don't imagine the duvet covers are washed?" and she said no. Then she said, housekeeping would come up and put them on our beds.... after breakfast we found the sheets left folded on the desk in our room. Talked to the front desk again. Came back that afternoon and the beds were made up but sheets were still on the desk and pushed further back. Couldn't wrap my head around it. *Talked to the front desk about going downtown, the river boats, and a shuttle running for a convention. She said we would need to take an Uber, there was no shuttle for us. That night we find out the river boat has a shuttle stop AT THE HOTEL! She didn't breathe a word of it. We could have bought a ticket online and just hopped on the boat at the hotel instead of paying for an Uber downtown. Smh. Glad we were able to utilize it for the next few days. The river shuttle was great! Riverwalk loop is beautiful and such fun! We will just stay elsewhere next time.

Yelp
Across the Riverwalk from the Tobin! This is one of the newest hotels on the San Antonio skyline- it's a tall, skinny hotel that has a great restaurant, Landrace, which is a creation of the local celebrity chef, Steve McHugh. Then, there's a fantastic pool that's up on about the 6th floor. The hotel offers the pool to Resort Pass, if you're interested. They have their own bar, a set of restrooms, a nice pool with a wonderful view of downtown and some public art next door. The service is top notch- friendly, yet professional. They offer valet parking, but I generally just park on the bridge or down the street for free. The decor is cool- such strange art that they really place front and center. Some hotels have art that just blends into the background. Not the Thompson- it's a really artistic, design-focused experience. Nice. I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
I come to SA monthly for work. Always try a new hotel. This is hands down the best place i've stayed in the last 3 yrs. Never switching. Everything from the friendly & seamless check-in to the little tangerines they leave in the hallways as snacks to the beautiful and spic & span CLEAN rooms. Not a dust particle in sight - props to housekeeping team. The amenities are of the highest quality & everything smells so good. Super comfy bed & so quiet - i could sleep all day it's so silent. My only complaint that the pool water had a film of oil floating on top. And around the inner edges of the pool, if you happen to lean on it, there is a black oil that sticks to your skin and never wants to come off. It's like motor oil. Otherwise, pretty blissful all around. Landrace restaurant is a must try. Elevated yet approachable menu, tasty!!!

Yelp
I am very glad I didn't go by the review ranking here on my beloved Yelp, since I may have raised my eyebrows and been a tad concerned. Another rating site provided a 5 star rating from 874 reviews, however in reality I didn't check either before booking my trip. If I were to give this a one sentence review, it would be, Is there a valium lick in the employee lounge? We were having a local staycation, if you would and just wanted to get out of Austin for a few days and the Thompson looked sleek, modern and new. They had a couple of restaurants on site, access to the Riverwalk and a spa. Seemed for us a logical choice. From our first contact with the Valet's, there was happiness. We came up to checkin desk, more happiness. Bell hop bringing our bag to our room, happiness and information x 2. In fact, every friggin person in the hotel is happy and accomodating. In this world of conflict and negativity, it was a bit uncomfortable at first, but then you just roll with it. Hence my thought there is that lick in the employee lounge. However, we felt these folks genuinely enjoyed what they were doing and made us feel at home. Upon entry, you are greeted by a massive face sculpture on your left. It resembled what I probably felt like the next morning. There is art all through the hotel as if you were in a gallery. This theme extended to your room. We were staying in a skyline view suite on the 11th floor. It was well appointed with a bar, fridge living/sitting room and a humongous bathtub and shower. The view outside was captivating for me as I woke up early to stare outside wondering if my head was stll actually attached to my neck from the prior evening's debauchery. There were black out curtains and pocket doors which seperated the bedroom from the living room. The bed was very comfortable and A/C worked well to keep us cool. There are two huge TV's which use a streaming system for all you personal streaming apps from your phone. So, if you personally subscribe to streaming apps, make sure you have them downloaded to your phone with log in and passwords. Quite handy, after I figured it out. It was easy, but as an older dude, it took a a couple attempts before I got it right. There are also bluetooth radios which you can link to your Spotify or what have you apps. The property has a pool area which we checked out, little to hot for us, but cool cabana's and a pool side bar. A spa, which we didn't take advantage of, a roof top bar and restaurant on the bottom floor. I will review those seperately. We did get room service breakfast both mornings which is provided by Landrace. One item, you won't go hungry with these portions and you definitely get value from the price point. There is a complimentary coffee bar in the lobby as well as a nespresso machine in your room. They also have a pretty environmentally sensitive water system which provides you with your own water bottle and refill stations on each floor. Grab a tangerine while you are at it. On check in, we worked with a lad originally from Liverpool and we had some great banter regarding footy teams and on check out, a lovely lady helped me with getting a print out and waiving our early departure fee due to an unexpected issue needing us to get home a day earlier than planned and booked. Unfortunately I do not recall their names. Mando our bell hop was a plethora of information and extremely helpful. Other stand-outs in the way of service was Diego the bar keep in Landrace and the cute little bitty student teacher gal, whose name I don't believe I asked for. A big shout out to Rem in the kitchen and upstairs in Moon Daughters, Johnny on the spot mixed a great drink and Ariel was as attentive as you could wish for a server to be. What a great experience and we will definitely be back to stay again.

Yelp
I love this hotel! We stayed here for a surprise staycation for my husbands' birthday and the stay exceeded my expectations. Our room was well maintained and tastefully done. The front desk even delivered a bottle of champagne for my husband. It is one of the only hotels that is so pet friendly! We brought our two dogs without cost. I am trying to find another occasion to stay at the hotel. We hope to be back really soon!

Yelp
At the cenote poolside bar on a Saturday , had the pleasure of being served by Airika and Ebed, the finest bar keeps in San Antonio/ made me feel really welcome and well cared for. Don't miss this place!

Yelp
Definitely recommend this hotel! It's not far from the Riverwalk. It's about a 10 minute walk. Staff was amazing every time we encountered them no matter what. They loved asking if you are enjoying your stay and recommending things to do within the hotel! There was plenty to do. The roof top bar was amazing even on a foggy night. I think valet is the only option for parking however not completely sure. Breakfast options were nice. Steak wasn't as seasoned as I would have liked but wasn't completely disappointed. Definitely recommend this hotel when you want to get away but still have things to do.

Yelp
I attended a fashion show this past summer at the rooftop pool and it was amazing! The drinks and bites were so good at the rooftop bar, too. A perfect place for a fun time. The location of this hotel is perfect in downtown and I'd highly recommend using valet from the hotel, otherwise you'll have to walk to a nearby parking garage/lot.

Yelp
I stayed at Thompson San Antonio for a business trip and I was truly impressed! This was my second time visiting San Antonio and the first time I was visiting for business - I was thankful to the company for booking a 5-star hotel. I was able to do valet parking, and upon check-in, they provide you "canned" water as a complimentary amenity. The rooms are extremely nice and spacious and also has a smart TV so you can watch all your streamed stuff as well. Amenities include a swimming pool, a ROOFTOP bar and lounge that gives you stunning views of San Antonio, and a gym. The front desk staff was extremely friendly throughout the entire stay and the valet parking folks were also very very friendly as well. Housekeeping comes everyday (unless you don't want it) and they replenish towels, which I thought was really nice. Overall - I had a very enjoyable stay here. I don't have enough money to stay here for leisure but when I do - I hope to be able to visit here again!

Yelp
First timer here and it won't be my last. What a great experience from the moment the valet ($50 per day) helped me out of the car to the moment I entered to my beautiful room. Checked in with ease by the super awesome hotel clerk. Was told about all the amenities and what floors I could find anything. As an artist myself, I really LOVED, all the art work that you can find around the hotel. Loved that in my room, they hotel provided a pamphlet of thumbnail images of all the artwork around the hotel mentioning the titles, artists and location where you can find it in the hotel. Overall, everything was clean and very quiet for it was Memorial Day weekend and it wasn't even crowded. I can't say enough great things about my room. I loved the modern vibe with a hint of masculinity. The dark teal colors with wood and metal accents were stunning. The room was spotless and really appreciated that you didn't get a bar of soap to wash your hands, you actually get a pump! I felt at home for sure. Also appreciated that my husband and I had a hook each to hang our travel hanging bag, one on each side of the vanity. The queen sized bed was very comfortable and spacious. My husband and I had plenty of towels and simply everything we needed. Room was stocked with snacks, soft drinks and alcohol for purchase which could be found in a mini fridge. My husband and I stayed two restful nights and during that time we did have a wonderful dinner at Land Race which is a true gem. I will write a separate review for that along with the roof top bar. We attempted to hang out at the pool or pool bar but again it was Memorial Day weekend and it was packed. They also had a DJ playing some jams. A cabana would run you $400 but we opted for the Spa instead with a reservation. Really loved my experience and can't wait to visit again. Thank you all and keep up the great work! FYI: It's conveniently close to the Riverwalk that you can walk to any of your favorite restaurants or bars. It really is a great location.

Yelp
DO NOT VALET The hotel and all they have to offer is gorgeous. The HOTEL staff is lovely. However, when it comes to their valet, DONT. I unintentionally left my phone in my vehicle, but figured it was safe at the hotel. When I got inside my car, I pinged it from my watch and located it at the valet stand. I then asked the attendant if they took it from my vehicle and he replied, yes. No explanation. No apology. & he asked me about my background photo. I called the hotel and spoke with a "manager" on duty to enlighten them of what had transpired. He stated that it was a third-party. No accountability. & a little more faith lost in humanity.

Yelp
The Good: :: it's a nice hotel, pretty brand-spanking new :: nice bath amenities (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, q-tips, etc) :: free coffee in the lobby in the mornings :: bedside radio that offered Bluetooth capabilities, which came in nicely when relaxing or getting ready to head out for the evening :: in-room safe :: comfortable beds and bedding :: performant wifi (always appreciated for streaming!) :: robes and slippers complementary for use :: dispenser on each floor that dispenses chilled still and sparkling water both :: free tangerines on every floor for the taking :: rooftop bar gave a nice view of the city in the evening :: bathroom is spacious The Bad: :: room we had was pretty small, felt a bit tight :: the view we had with the neighborhood room was overlooking the currently abandoned El Tropicana hotel. not their fault, nothing that they can do about it, as it will be a thing until a new developer is willing to purchase and update the property. while the room having floor to ceiling windows is nice to allow in maximun light, be warned that it's the view of an abandoned hotel. this didn't bother me too much but may bother others. i was actually kind of hoping to see whether or not squatters were staying in any of the abandoned rooms but saw none, lol :: i'd requested that a customized note with a favorite cocktail was sent to the room for my friend who was dealing with a recent death of a relative. they futzed the cocktail (sent up 4 cans of beer instead) and gave a boilerplate greeting in the note. appreciate that they tried! but it was inline with that #nailedit kind of vibe on execution The Ugly: :: none Would I go back? Sure, it's on the quiet end of the Riverwalk and still allows for easy access to restaurants, bars, etc. This place is IN.

Yelp
Another wonderful conference and stay with the Thompson. Nothing better than being able to host events in your own city and showcase it for out of town guests. Hotel staff is amazing, cleanliness is a priority, food was delicious, valets are careful and friendly. The small Leah Al touches impeccable. Rooms are comfortable and very well appointed. Great job! Thanks so much for taking care of my guests.

Yelp
Excellent customer service and very accommodating to you and your family. Anything you ask is given to you no questions asked. Every single staff member smiles and say hi to you even if you're just passing by. We didn't have a great experience with the city of San Antonio (nothing to do with the hotel) but this hotel and its staff have made this trip much more memorable and salvaged our experience. It is on a pricey end but it is understandable. I didn't see a lot of families with kids here so I think it is best suited for couples and high end events. However, it is still very enjoyable for kids as the pool area is very clean and shaded mostly by the building itself so it's not too hot. Also LOVE the fitness center (for myself) as it gets your stress relief. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a weekend away or is passing by in San Antonio.

Yelp
This review is for the spa. I went with a friend who was staying there to get a pedicure and manicure. We were supposed to get our mani and pedi at the same time but one nail techs didn't come in so we had to do one at a time with the same nail tech. The first thing I noticed was that the massaging chairs seemed older and I couldn't really feel the massage on my back. They were a cheaper version of what you find in a nail salon. The mani and pedi were just basic with regular polish. The nail tech asked if I wanted CBD oil and I said sure and she poured a tiny bit of oil on my legs and hands. I went to pay and the bill was $234. My mouth dropped and was shocked of how expensive it was because it was just a basic service. I paid the bill and asked for a receipt. They charged $65 for a 60 minute manicure with regular polish, $80 for 60 min pedicure with regular polish, $30 for the CBD oil, $20 to remove the shellac on my toes and they automatically included a $39 dollar tip. My friend got her mani and pedi first so when the nail tech got to me I felt that my 60 minute mani and pedi were rushed. They were not an hour each. When I got home I noticed my nails weren't buffed enough because I can still see my nail lines through the polish. I wouldn't mind paying that kind of money if the chairs were better, the nail services were better than just basic, if I had gotten anything else but nail polish, and only getting offered 1 glass of champagne. I'm just very disappointed and the whole experience was not worth $234.

Yelp
Magnificent hotel close to the Riverwalk. Comfortable rooms, great showers. The rooftop bar was amazing. Do not hesitate to book here

Yelp
I have stayed here twice. The first time- I stayed for about two nights during the summer time. The second time, I did an overnight stay since I was road tripping to california. I was really impressed with the Thompson. It provides the modern bougie feel if you want to splurge. It's also beneficial if you are a Hyatt Globalist member. My first visit was great. We had little chocolates on our pillows. However, the second visit, I mainly chose the Thompson for a comfortable overnight stay and it was not. The service was fine when I checked in and they provided a cute welcome snack of popcorn and mineral water to my room that is on the 6th floor next to the stairwells. But 3am rolls around, and all I hear is loud talking, specially female voice. I couldn't pin point where it was coming from because I initially thought it was outside, but there was no one in the streets due to the ice storm. But I think it was coming from the stairwells and it went on for a whole hour. My friend and I decided we couldn't sleep because the voice kept us up, so we checked out at 4am unfortunately. 3 star rating also includes the shower. The shower head was a little weak and the shower door didn't close tightly so the water leaked onto the ground outside of the door. And I remembered that happened last time as well with a closed door. It's just messy. A ton of water to clean up after the shower.

Yelp
BEWARE We're in a suite on the south side (River Walk view) and there is an early morning Zumba class that happens at the Tobin that is so loud it violently shook me out of my sleep the first time I heard it. It's misery. If you enjoy sleeping in, DO NOT STAY HERE. Also, the restaurant sucks and they just did some kind of reno, it smells like really toxic chemicals throughout the hotel. Thank you, Next.

Yelp
I wanted a staycation, so I booked a night in this hotel. The lobby smells so good, so you will notice that first! If you have Amex Plat, definitely book here because you get extra perks! My room overlooked the city, and it was honestly one of the fanciest I have ever stayed in! My pictures are all from the three different places to eat food, and they were great! That lamb shank from the lounge on the roof was flat out beautiful. You'll come back for sure.

Yelp
Wow.. feels like I'm giving up five star reviews like candy but we just seem to be having the best time in San Antonio. All the normal stuff about the Hotel Keawe San another reviews we're just gonna focus on our experience and thus far from check in to a sweet upgrade to talking with the staff at land shark. This has just been an exceptional experience. I would recommend in the rooms to add more places to hang towels and shirts etc. inside the bathroom but such a minor thing really love this hotel and planning a trip to come back sometime in the future.

Dan Hong ..

Yelp
This is the worse 5 star hotel ever, I would give it -1 stars. They don't give you Amex fine and resort hotel perks if you forgot your Amex credit card. Also, the bathroom faucet is broken and it takes one hour for room service to bring you one towel. There is only one chair in the room when you have 3 guests. They do not offer room upgrade and tell you the hotel is fully booked when there is not much guests. I will not be coming back here again. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Don't ever stay here.

Yelp
I wasn't going to write a review for this place. Now I am, I didn't want the first and only review to be negative for a property that just had a grand opening. That's just rude and bad luck. I decided to come here cause it was new, and I wanted to do absurd things and be the first to stay in the room, which doesn't seem to crazy since the Covid life started. There are some things I was not pleased with cause I'm an outspoken critique on the tiniest detail. The front staff efforts were on point to try to accommodate. Shout out to Kathryn, Luke and john. I'm a minority myself, my partner, along w other minorities I see on staff. Been here several times since then. So far I haven't seen or experienced anything to speak up abt any racism from valet, house keeping, even random staff I've encountered. Been greeted every time. Therefore I'm curious why the previous reviewer wrote what she wrote, details would be appreciated for more understanding.

Yelp
I searched long and hard for the perfect place to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary and stumbled across the Thompson Hotel. As some of you can imagine, planning something this special can be stressful and overwhelming but Julie from the Front Desk made planning our special occasion seamless!! She was wonderful from start to finish. At first. I reserved the Skyline Suite but she offered a room upgrade to the Penthouse for an amazing price!! It was everything I expected and more!! Julie made our day even more special by ensuring the rose petals were beautifully placed before we arrived. While we were at our massage appointments, she delivered a bottle of wine with a sweet card to our room. Everything we experienced that day was exceptional and I guarantee we'll be back again. Highly recommend the Thompson for a beautiful romantic stay or just for a nice relaxing time. There are so many amenities throughout the room and hotel. It definitely top 3 of hotels in my book!!

Yelp
During a recent stay in San Antonio, I selected the new Thompson hotel in downtown San Antonio for my 3 night stay. The hotel is very well done, with comfortable, luxurious rooms and a nice location near the San Antonio river. The staff is very friendly and greeted me cordially as I checked in. I had a wonderful breakfast 2 of the mornings in the Landrace restaurant with a table overlooking the river. Breakfast was really terrific and the staff was very attentive. I ordered room service one night. The selections were minimal and I ordered a wonderful burger and fries. Most everything at the hotel was outstanding, but I do have two areas I was very displeased with. I fully realize this is a brand new expensive hotel and the have to pay for it all. Caveat Emptor! First of all, the room service arrived with a detailed bill for me to sign. I had an exhausting day and I knew my small appetizer, burger and glass of wine was about $50 and I wanted to make sure the wait person received a proper tip. I added a $10 tip to my bill. I checked the detail of my bill the next day on the TV screen in my room and was very surprised to find out Room Service had already automatically added a gratuity line to my dinner of $11.88. Of course, the delivery person said nothing as I added an additional $10 for the service charge. The total of my room service meal came to $81.32. The burger was excellent, but I couldn't get the BAD TASTE of all of the charges for the simple delivery. (Delivery charge $4 + automatic gratuity $11.88 + my mistake of adding the $10 tip=$25.88.) There should NOT be a "tip line" on the bill if the hotel is already adding a 24% gratuity charge! Next time I'll ignore the convenience and go out to dinner, no matter how tired I am! The second item which made my blood pressure rise substantially was the valet charge. There is no reference to the pricing on the Hyatt website. Only the simple statement: "Enjoy valet parking at our hotel." Well, I don't expect valet parking at a downtown hotel to be free, I do expect it to be "reasonable". I mean, I would expect a high price in a major city like NYC, San Francisco or Chicago, but NOT in San Antonio. The daily valet charge was $49 per night! ($53.04 with tax + cash tips for the valet each time I had to drop off my car and retrieve it.) I used it once a day to retrieve my car and once at night to park my car overnight. Lastly, I did search around for a nearby public parking garage after realizing the exorbitant valet fee, but didn't find any in this part of the north downtown area. Despite this being a lovely hotel and great addition to downtown San Antonio, I don't think I will have a repeat visit to this location. Again, warning to all,..... buyer beware!

Yelp
I recently (8/3/23) went in (The Moon's Daughters) for a business meeting. This location is truly my stop since my fiancé and I got engaged here and love to bring new people to SA. Unfortunately, this would be my last visit. (I am on hold while writing this) Long story short, our bartender Joshua not only refused to serve us food because he was busy, but decided to charge us $20 a drink from the $16 menu drinks. (When asked why other people got served, he said he was too busy but I could order food and come look for it. Not a response a high end dining should say EVER) To make matters worse, I got an email from my credit card company notifying me that Joshua put himself a 60%TIP. (After he took off the extra $5 he charged us a drink: yes, I paid the extra $5 for 4 drinks!) I have been calling everyday and have had no luck. The manager has repeated assured the front desk that he will call me, but we are 8/09 and have yet to receive any call/email. This only demonstrates that they are fine with their bartenders charging more and then taking it off the check once we pay to keep the extra cash. PLEASE BE AWARE OF YOUR FINAL CHECK!!!!

Yelp
The hotel rooms are okay. The walls a paper thin. I could hear people from several doors down. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The hotel doesn't offer self-parking, only valet, which is fine until you have to wait 20 minutes for your car in 30-degree weather. The bar was good, and the drinks were great. The host for the bar was a bit rude but maybe was just having a bad night. The hotel is significantly overpriced. Due to the parking situation and paper-thin walls, I will probably never return.

Yelp
This hotel is worthy of a five-star rating and likely the best stay in San Antonio. The service is incredible and the property is truly beautiful. Tough to beat the location and experience. I look forward to returning.

Yelp
I want to take the time to update this review. Since I have posted this review that was absolutely honest and candid, the Thompson has decided that it is "threatening" to them and has rescinded their offers to allow a make up trip in an upgraded room. All in all, don't believe what you hear and see on their social media, they had zero intentions of making things right and they also used local influencers to get business only to treat the locals that go there like they are nothing. I'm starting to see patterns in reviews that actually back my story up and this review is here to stay. Follow me on IG and TikTok: KrisPBacon210

Yelp
Very sexy hotel, good location. The rooftop pool is great, all the staff is helpful. The moons daughter bar has amazing views. The brunch in the restaurant was excellent, especially the ricotta pancakes. The room has unique touches and a masculine, sexy vibe. I definitely recommend the Thompson San Antonio.

Yelp
Absolutely loved our stay here! Beautiful rooms, very clean, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. Room service was also fast and responded to requests right away. Would highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the San Antonio area! We especially appreciated the manager Azeem who assisted us with a room assignment error. He was very friendly and professional! Also front desk staff Brandi was extremely friendly and personable! The restaurant on the main level was delicious also and the rooftop bar/restaurant "The Moon's Daughters" was fun and provided a gorgeous view of the city!

Yelp
LOTS OF HIDDEN FEES AND MISCHARGES My husband and I went there for our one year anniversary yesterday because we were given a gift card to the spa as a wedding gift last year. We waited a whole year for our spa day and had been looking forward to a great experience. When we arrived and were told that the balance on the gift card was $450, the spa rep suggested upgrading our 50 minute massages to 80 minutes. It was my fault for not asking about prices. Our original booking was for two 50 minute relaxation massages (medium pressure), which were $170 each. Upgrading to 80 minutes should have been $225 per massage (which would have been covered by the whole gift card balance) but we were charged for deep tissue massages instead of relaxation massages, which actually came out to $255 per massage, then they tacked on an additional $10 each because it was a couples massage. (We did not receive deep tissue massages, I actually fell asleep during mine and was apparently snoring.) We also looked at the receipt while leaving and saw a service fee of $106 (which was also never disclosed to us). I found out from the spa supervisor that it was actually an automatic 20% gratuity included for the therapists. Not only did the receptionist, Melva refrain from disclosing and explaining the service fee, she asked us if we wanted to leave a tip for the therapists. Unaware of the service fee, we tipped an additional $30 each. So each therapist received an $83 tip on a $255 massage. I was mortified to have to be a "Karen" but I called the spa, went over all this with the supervisor (the director was not available) and was told that I'd have to wait for her to decide if we would be able to get a refund on the overtip and difference between the deep tissue and relaxation massages. The massages were great and we had a really nice time enjoying the complimentary amenities, but this is just some really shady dealing on the part of the people working the spa reception area, and pretty much soured the whole experience. I have a background in retail, spa and hospitality, and I was ALWAYS trained that you disclose fees and CERTAINLY don't double dip for tips. What happened to us was pretty unethical.

Yelp
Father's Day celebration was a success at the Thompson! Had brunch at Landrace, and finished with cocktails at the pool. Only detail was about the valet parking I was told it was included with our visit and it was not. I don't might paying but I am told something by the employees you better honor it!

Yelp
This is my first Yelp review, visiting San Antonio Riverwalk from So. California. I am a guest staying at adjacent Indigo hotel, decided to walk to Thompson San Antonio Riverwalk Hotel and join son and his wife after his graduation for brunch at Landrace Restaurant. I ordered eggs/sausage/grits with sourdough bread, I did not know that MOLD was part of the order (sourdough bread was full of mold), all the manager let me know was that kitchen staff will be checking all the other bread for any mold contamination. For a 5 star hotel, I was not expecting MOLD to be on the menu, organic growth called by others. Thompson Restaurant Manager didn't do much to make things "right", she had a moldy attitude.

Yelp
Not quite what I was expecting from a boutique luxury hotel. The suites were small-ish for the room rates. It was great for a photo shoot and social media content. Make sure the valet has the right car if you do valet. The pool was nice and not for little kids who cannot swim. The bar service was great. The staff at the pool was so sweet and accommodating. I saw they have sunrise yoga on Thursdays. Not sure if I will be back to stay but the atmosphere and ambiance was fun!

Yelp
I was invited as a wedding planner to their Christmas in July open house back in July 2021. This place is a beautiful hotel right on the riverwalk. They showed us their amazing event areas and we tasted some of the most delicious apps and drinks. I decided to go back for a girls night a few months later. We ate at the restaurant downstairs. Jeff was our server and he made our night even better with his awesome jokes and consistent service. Our water cups were never empty and he kept an eye on our booze to make sure we were never left without. The food was amazing and fresh. That same night after dinner we went upstairs to the moons daughter. It was a great Atmosphere with a great mix of people. Great view of the city with perfect photo opportunities. The bartenders were fast and always smiling considering the bar was packed. The DJ was good playing a good mix of new and old and keeping the crowd pleased. I can't wait to go back for girls night or to have a client plan a wedding here.

Yelp
Best hotel In Texas. The hotel is gorgeous and the rooms are amazing, but it's the service that's above and beyond. The standard room is fantastic and the suites are beyond next level. There are some missteps in the construction design but more energy goes into the service concept than every other riverwalk hotel combined. We enjoyed it so much that we felt guilty leaving the hotel to do anything and just wanted to be there, as the destination. The restaurants are great, the pool is great, no complaints. We experienced a small issue with our room last trip and the hotel response, in addition to the positive vibes we already had served so well that even a room issue didn't change our attitude of the property. The property is full of fantastic art. The rooms are crisp and modern, but be aware that the beds are on the firm side.

Yelp
Hotel was nice. Room was just ok. A bit small Price was $319 a night. 2 nights. Bill was over $1000 Valet for 2 days parking. $112. Mini wine was $46. For what was under 2 glasses mini bar Tax and housekeeper fee for 2 days was $160

Yelp
The staff went above and beyond with our accommodations and very friendly as well. The hotel was beautiful and different then anywhere I've stayed. The suite was gorgeous and had everything you could ever want. The Thompson was top notch and food as well. My favorite hotel thus far!

Yelp
This hotel is beautiful but expensive. Front desk staff is great and very gracious. The valet staff was awesome too and very efficient. In my opinion the valet parking was expensive at $50 + tax per day. Landrace Restaurant is quite charming. We had a great server and food was delicious. It would have been five stars. The three stars is because - 1) Housekeeping , which we had to call everyday to have our room made. 2) There was no hot water on day two that made it very inconvenient waiting for them to fix the issue. 3) The hotel continued to charged us valet parking fees for two days even after we checked out, we had to call the hotel twice and charges were finally dropped.

Yelp
We didn't stay at the Tompson, however we went to their rooftop bar and it was awesome. When we left my phone decided to stop working and we couldn't get a Lyft ride back. The people at the front desk were incredibly helpful and offered us a taxi ride and a phone charger. We will be booking with them the next trip to San Antonio!

Yelp
This hotel is exactly what San Antonio has been needing. We went for my birthday weekend and reserved one of the larger suites and let me tell you it was AMAZING. I was so impressed with the level of service and just everything in general. The only thing I can think to critique is the depth of the pool LOL. It's not short people friendly! I will say this is an adult friendly hotel and I LOVE THAT. I wouldn't recommend to families but Adults who are looking for a relaxing stay-cation on the weekend, BOOK THE ROOM.

Yelp
Once you've checked in to the Thompson you won't want to leave. It's the ultimate getaway. Wether you're getting a spa service or having brunch a landrace just being in the hotel feels special. San Antonio just upped its game and I'm here for it .

Yelp
This review is for the spa. Gorgeous spa, very friendly staff, i enjoyed my massage with Nikki, and i appreciate the heating & adjustable table. The ladies reviewed our intake paperwork so they knew what we were there for. They made my husband and i feel very comfortable. The only downside is there was a group of drummers right outside the window and it was very noisy.. not the relaxing atmosphere we were going. Thankfully it only lasted about 15 minutes and they were done. That is one thing to consider, the spa overlooks the river walk and there very well could be events going on outside that the spa can't control the noise levels. I would visit again if I'm just looking for a quick in and out spa but if I'm looking for more relaxation & quiet I'd go to a more secluded spa. They offer access to the pool, steam room & sauna. The sauna was down when i visited so if that matters to you call ahead and ask about it. 20% service charge is added to all services that goes to the people servicing you.

Yelp
Absolutely love this hotel. The rooms are as awesome as the staff! The food in the restaurant downstairs in the lobby is sublime, award-winning chef. The lights in the rooms by the beds are warm Edison lights which helps offset the bright ceiling lamps. Pool is heated and big and the cabanas are awesome. May be a little pricey but a Staff is generous when no one's around. Turn right onto E. Martin St. love everything about it and the 24 hour gym is a plus because I am very big into exercise! Just kidding, I never exercise but I started to with a Thompson Hotel. :-) Thank you to Lisa York and her amazing son Jakob For their kindness and hospitality. Thank you to Tammy who manages the restaurant and to everyone else at the awesome Thompson Hotel,. We will be back!

Yelp
We booked this (relatively) expensive hotel based on the fact that they had a pool and cool looking rooms. The decor and the hotel art is cool but the hotel pool can be crowded by social influencers to raise revenue/ create "buzz". There was a DJ and loud club music night and day and limited pool seating. However we were impressed with how management handled our concerns. of this at 2 pm on a Sunday. Also be aware that there is no self park option and valet is $50 a day.

Yelp
It was definitely a nice Staycation for sure. It's in walking distance to most things, conveniently located downtown. The rooftop views are spectacular and rooms had a vintage appeal, with a dated clock and detail to every choice of furniture. The rooms had a darker appearance but it added to the mystery of the look. Although the rooftop experience is definitely what's driving people there, be prepared to wait even if you have reservations. It took awhile to order food also but it was a packed rooftop so it's understandable. I probably won't be back to eat but drinks and socializing for sure. The front desk seemed as though they were in training also. Valet parking is your only option and we didn't have to wait too long for the car so that was a plus.

Yelp
The Thompson Hotel is a beautifully appointed, clean and new hotel located on the north side of the Riverwalk and close to the Pearl District. We were quite impressed with the customer service we experienced before and during our stay. They called us a week prior to check in to ask if there was anything they could do to help us with during our stay. They left a nice birthday note welcoming us and offered a complimentary bottle of stout beer. The room was very clean, cute and perfect for our 2-night stay. We visited the Moon's Daughter to have a late-night drink and snack and the bartender was so friendly and helpful with his recommendations.

Yelp
Very nice staff. Valet parking. Nicely decorated hotel with spa. The room was very nice. Comfortable bed and pillows. Nice shower with good water pressure.
