"On April 20, owners of Threadgill’s, a historic Austin venue that started as a gas station and beer bar 87 years ago, announced its permanent closure. The decision came just three days after they had begun a takeout operation, marking a significant loss to Austin's local live music scene, heavily impacted by the pandemic." - Nina Hernandez

"Historic South Austin restaurant Threadgill’s has finally announced a closure date. The restaurant on 301 West Riverside Drive will close on Sunday, December 2. The Riverside location of Threadgill’s has been experiencing difficulties for a while, including financial struggles and high property taxes. Despite a new lease in November 2017, the location could not overcome these challenges." - Erin Russell

Cool place to eat comfort food. Located close to Austin downtown. A historic restaurant with nostalgic history. Fried pickles were pretty good. Parking was easy to find but I went during middle of the week during a slow time. There is a bar and a restaurant area with outdoor seating. The menu had plenty of options. Overall a good choice for comfort food. There wasn’t any live music when I went.

Great Southern cooking; unlimited side refills. Not the original, but equal quality. Solid brunch. Big enough that service can be slow. I'd recommend it for a family outing, especially if looking for hearty hot plates.

Unique venue within walking distance from a few local hotels. The place easily accommodates large groups and the staff is helpful and friendly. The menu has a wide selection of entrees and long list of sides. I had the "world famous" chicken fried steak. The meat was good, but I want a fan of the heavy batter but both of the sides were excellent. The ribeye which my colleagues had looked better, but on the rather fatty side.

I love the chicken fried steak it is so good. It's very filling so you better bring an appetite. Their pumpkin pie is delicious. I will be back when I'm back in Austin.

Great brunch place with some live gospel country folk music. Keeping it lively with some awesome music and fresh eggs, fruits, waffles, and bacon. Eat to your hearts desire at this place as there is plenty of food for so many people. Drink their cocktails at 10am to help curb that hangover.

We waited for over 2 hours on Thanksgiving day. But it was worth the wait. Very tasty and high-quality roasted turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes. And the pecan pie for dessert just did me in. Outstanding.

Great and historic place in Austin on South side of river. Understand they're going to close soon because of high property tax so get there while you can. Food is home cooking good which means everything is fried and yummy. Went with a big group for lunch and everything came out great. Highly recommend but do so will before they're gone.

One of my all time favorite restaurants! I've never had an unreasonable wait. The servers have always been top notch and the food always satisfies. So much history here and so many options. Never miss the opportunity to eat here when I'm in Austin.
