3 Guys Restaurant Review - Upper East Side - New York - The Infatuation

"On any given afternoon, this Greek diner on Madison Avenue is filled with a mix of old ladies who've been coming for their daily grapefruit and cottage cheese for 30 years, overacheiving children in school uniforms eating fries, art dealers selling Picassos over salad, and people who just went to the museum. It's not the best food around, but it’s as entertaining a cross-section of the neighborhood as you can find. photo credit: Alex Staniloff" - Marisa Dunn

Where To Eat Near The Met

"Unlike that terrifying Weimar Art exhibit, Three Guys is for everyone. This Greek Diner on Madison Avenue is as no-frills as it gets, and you’ll see weathered brown booths full of everyone from kids in school uniforms to billionaires making deals over salad. The food is your average diner fare, but Three Guys is an entertaining cross section of the neighborhood, and it’s a good rest stop for kids who were getting antsy in the museum. I never write reviews and as someone who’s been in industry for 15 years I loathe online review culture, but… Spare yourself. A very telling illustration of just how bleak the upper east side is. 38 dollars for an iced coffee, “fresh” oj and the worst little breakfast wrap I’ve had in my life. Literally tasted like cardboard- no seasoning and using grocery store style lunch wraps that felt stale. More bread than filling. The atmosphere is bleak and uncomfortable. The food carts in the park nearby have more worthwhile food that actually tastes like something. It does seem though they have a lot of regulars, so good for them! I’d say it’s really surprising this wealthy neighborhood has such tasteless eateries but it’s pretty on brand. Idk how people who have the money to live here eat food like this. 38$ …what a joke. On me! lol.

Google
Pretty unique experience. I lobe diners but didn’t expect to see one in this area. The prices reflect the location so I get it. They had yogurt muffins which I never had. I believe they use yogurt rather than butter when making. Pretty good. All the food is solid here and I would come back. Plenty of space but does get packed during certain times. Will be back!

Martin Donovan

Google
Overpriced, even by NYC standards. Prices from online are from 5 years ago according our waiter. $63 for French toast, bacon, oatmeal, coffee and tea. Food was edible but nothing special. Butter was ice cold and unspeadable. Oatmeal was clearly Quaker Oats, and maple syrup was pure high fructose corn syrup from to go packets. The only saving grace was the service was good, partly because the place was half empty on a Sunday morning.

Google
“The absolute best diner in the city, hands down! The food is always fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. Their Bloody Mary is an absolute masterpiece—perfectly spiced, loaded with garnishes, and exactly what I need to kick off my weekend. The staff are warm, friendly, and make you feel right at home every time. Whether you’re stopping in for breakfast, brunch, or a late-night bite, this place never disappoints. A true gem!”

My friend got the smoked salmon Benedict and I had the crab cake Benedict. Paired them with a Bellini. Delicious! Long morning, it was the first thing I ate and I was satisfied

Google
Excellent service, friendly staff and top notch freshness of food! I had a bowl of mixed fruit of vast variety and a protein bowl with hummus and gyro meat that was next level fresh produce. Will definitely be back everytime I come to my dentists office, thank you all!

Kristi (Get Out 207)

Google
Oh my goodness, this protein bowl, warm pita bread and an iced tea hit the spot on this hot, hot day! My family also enjoyed a grilled cheese with bacon sandwich and a turkey club. We got a table right away ( even though it was busy). Portions were perfect. Wait staff was exceptional! Very friendly and numerous people checking in to refill drinks and making sure we had everything we needed. Lovely?

Olga Clark

Google
Well, honestly speaking, it was overpriced! Our bill was almost 100 bucks for lunch without the alcohol!! I ordered the fried chicken, and it was super dry! I ate some because I was very hungry, but that was not a fresh cooked chicken. The salad was very good! If I knew, I would order the salad with protein!

Yelp
Convent to Central Park. Staff were very nice and food was good. It was lunch time on a Saturday, they got us in and out very efficiently. We had a Ruben and a burger, both very good.
google avatar

Morgan B.

Yelp
Pretty disappointed in this restaurant. There was a wait to be seated on a Saturday which was expected but I also thought it meant that the food was going to be amazing, I was incredibly underwhelmed. Our tuna melt was not even close to melted, and the omelette was just average. The food would have been acceptable if it wasn't so expensive, for two dishes we paid almost $80, at a diner! It's very hard to find a reasonably priced diner in NY anymore but I would sooner return to one with better food. Service was standard, had to flag the waiter down a few times but they were incredibly busy so we understood

Yelp
Not sure what happened to this place. A few years ago it was so good- always looked forward to coming here. Went today and wow- the food was absolutely horrible. Tasteless and all different kinds of temperatures. The worst was this soup- matzo ball in cold urine was pretty much what it was. I was starving after waiting to eat all day and ended up just eating the crackers. It was HORROR. My pasta was cold and boiling hot in spots. Just not good anymore- going down the tubes. Not to mention OVER PRICED
google avatar

Lynn D.

Yelp
Definitely overpriced for a diner but it's the Upper East Side so I guess it comes with the territory. Other than the bill, the food was tasty & the service was quick.

Melody C.

Yelp
Eating here was a decision made out of convenience -- we had just found parking half a block away from this spot after circling the Met area for what felt like at least 20 minutes, and we were starving! As someone who's been pretty careful about COVID-19 exposure, I was tempted to turn around when I noticed the staff's indifferent approach toward COVID-19 preventive measures in the packed diner, but the full house convinced me to stay... "Wow, this restaurant must be pretty great if it can draw such a crowd," I mistakenly thought to myself. Thinking back, I'm almost positive that most of the patrons were tourists who have yet to realize that NYC is their oyster. We were lucky and didn't have to wait for a table despite the bustling activity. Once we sat down, we were immediately greeted by our server, who, thankfully, donned a mask. I debated between the plain mac and cheese and the bacon mac and cheese for a long time before settling with the latter, which was a few dollars more than the plain option. The food came quickly, but sadly, the food did not justify the price tag of $20 ($18 on the menu, but $20 on the check). I've never had such dry mac and cheese at a restaurant before that wasn't baked. It was really lacking sauce (please give it more cheese or something!) and some zing to upgrade it into a restaurant-quality dish. I think I made the right choice getting it with bacon though because I can't imagine how plain the regular mac and cheese would be! If I could turn back time, I would follow my friend's lead and order the quesadilla which came with three different sauces. My fiancé thought the eggs Benedict was not bad, but he wishes that he ordered a side of potatoes with it -- hash browns to be exact, but this was not available on the menu. The menu was still quite impressive, as it seemed to offer more than your average diner. One difference, though, is that they did not serve complimentary items like bread and a basic beverage of your choosing, which is very common in diners. Personally, I thought the portions were pretty small, but everyone else thought it was on par with any other diner. I'd have to disagree because it's not often that I can finish my meal at a restaurant -- in fact, my whole group licked their plates clean. On the menu, it was said that if you pay in cash, you would save at least 3%. This was extremely misleading because it reads as if there would be a discount if cash was used. However, what they meant was there would be an additional 3%+ charge for using card. I hope they fix the wording on the menu.

Yelp
I had a tuna fish sandwich and a cup of ice tea how can they charge me $26.10 .... Service was good and quick.... Ambiance of the restaurant was good clean, I would come here again but not for a almost $30 sandwich...
google avatar

Nico D.

Yelp
Service is attentive and pleasant. Food is average at best. Prices are higher than any other diner I've visited in New York. The ambiance is like that of a funeral parlor.

Yelp
There aren't many choices to sit down and eat on this stretch of Madison Ave, but Three Guys is the most basic, no-frills option. As a diner, they have all-day breakfast, as well as burgers, quesadilla, sandwiches, and salads. I came on a Sunday afternoon and ordered a Cuban panini ($24) which came with pulled pork, turkey, Swiss cheese, and pickles. I was hoping they would use Cuban bread for their Cubano, but it was just regular bread. Overall, nothing to write home about. If you are in a hungrier mood, I would recommend walking a little further to 2nd/3rd Ave where the options are much less limited. PS- Their service is pretty friendly and their restroom is next level clean. I trust these people to handle my food.

J. N.

Yelp
Food fair for a diner, prices very high, ambiance is what it is... bland. Often crowded.

Yelp
Business colleague of mine went to have lunch here. Bacon cheeseburger "deluxe" and a grilled chicken sandwich came out to OVER $71 including tip. What an absolute ripoff. The burger looked and tasted as if it was a bubba's burger patty from the supermarket. Literally nothing remarkable about it. The only saving grace was the tomato slice $ lettuce was fresh. Fries were boring, frozen, processed junk. The grilled chicken sandwich that my colleague had was a tiny bit more acceptable though it looked fry AF to me. We sat outside which was a mistake, NYC traffic and all made it ridiculously noisy. The wait staff, while fast, always seemed as if they couldn't wait to rush us off. Would I come back, absolutely not.

Yelp
Food was good and the servers were kind and respectful and diligent ! Ordered the protein bowl which was AMAZING very large portion, and then waffles also a good portion! Resteraunt is nicely located and is nice interior aswell. would reccomend

Yelp
We ate here because we were in Central Park and were hungry! This is a no frills, OG type of place. There was a table of little old ladies, but the restaurant was almost empty at lunch time. The food was great. My toddler had the kids' hamburger and ate the whole thing. It wasn't a typical kids menu item, it looked really well made and delicious (I didn't try it because I don't eat meat). My husband had a shawarma and I had the veggie wrap. The fries were perfectly crisp and the food was all really fresh and good. I also had a peach Bellini, which was absolutely delicious and perfect for a hot summer day. There are a million choices in NYC to find good food, but my husband is already talking about coming here again. Why risk it when we found something so good??
google avatar

Thomas F.

Yelp
I'll miss the one by Mount Sinai but this is a pretty great one as well. Very busy and expensive part of the city.
google avatar

Juan G.

Yelp
Pass on this spot. Your in nyc where you definitely have options. I had ordered the grilled chicken panini press with mozzarella and pesto. Added some slices of avocado to it too. You can see from the pic that it wasn't a press but a folded up pita. The chicken was a bit dry and tonight to eat. I ate half and I was good. The hostess seem like a sweet older lady but I was a walk in customer and she thought it be better to gossip with one of the two only customers inside. Seems like most of the diners ate outside. Not a fan of those smoking outside while your eating and apparently no one cared. Regards to Covid. They don't care to enforce any rules of wearing your mask and I even noticed that the staff picked up the garnishes without gloves.

Yelp
Most expensive breakfast and worth every penny. My husband and I come here every time we are in the city and it's classic and consistent. Great, sophisticated place. No where else like it!!!

Yelp

Yelp
If you stick to the basics such as breakfast food, this is a good diner option on the Upper East Side. It is not cheap, but the service is friendly and they get your food out fast! I have had chocolate chip pancakes, waffles, home fries, etc at different breakfast/brunch visits and have never had any issues. If you stick to standard diner fare, you should be happy with what you get. This is a convenient option if you are visiting the Met Museum--just a few blocks away.

Iris S.

Yelp
The food is good but it's extremely overpriced. Is it because of the Madison Ave address?

Nicole J.

Yelp
Great local diner with really nice staff. Salads are great as are the eggs. Certainly not fancy but solid neighborhood spot with great people.
google avatar

Yelp
We had breakfast at this restaurant and loved it. They can be quite busy but the food and service are both very good.

Mallory S.

Yelp
OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE!! Before leaving this diner yesterday, I spoke with the manager, letting him know I'd never be returning. True, prices are up all over the city, but 3 Guys' prices are highway robbery. Cottage cheese and a half-cantaloupe cost me $16; an ice coffee, $6.00. It's actually my fault I even returned there, after having had a previous visit with the same experience; that time, I was charged $12.00 for two soft-boiled eggs! The aforementioned manager acknowledged the excessive pricing and even confessed that he himself couldn't afford to eat there. It's too bad, because the place is otherwise a nice diner. In short, it's a rip-off. I'm never going back.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
We absolutely love this place & go at least once a week! The food & service is great & the waiters always prioritize bringing out my 1 year old son's food 1st! We love Three Guys!

J J.

Yelp
This was our final meal in New York before heading to JFK. Yes it's expensive but in my opinion, totally worth it! The location is prime, food is high quality and service is friendly and attentive. High marks for the bagels and lox, the scrambled eggs and Turkey bacon and the club sandwich. Everything arrived quickly and cooked right. Even the side of fruit was ripe and tasty! The restaurant is super clean. I liked the fact that healthy options were available. We will be back every trip back to New York!
google avatar

Patricia O.

Yelp
Worst meal I've ever had... I'll leave it at that! Go elsewhere. Had the 3 guys beef on Kaiser roll... horrible, tough beef and expensive. First and last time there!

Joan T.

Yelp
Busy, quick, efficient, pleasant. Just what you're looking for in a diner. Food is fine.
google avatar

Adeola C.

Yelp
Great place/ diner to eat at on Madison not many around there. The salmon is so delicious and fresh. We have 3 types of salmon. Baked, teriyaki and Benedict. Mashed potatoes, broccoli and spinach all freshly cooked. Great server and service

Monica S.

Yelp
Terrible delivery - egg yolk all over the bag - wrong order - items missing - put on hold gor ten minutes had to call back Told to order again till I had to be firm that why will I order and pay twice to get my breakfast - finally took my details to resend the order - waiting now They need to pull up the service

Al H.

Yelp
It's convenient for me to come here every now and then to eat. Lovely, comfy decor and good service. However, one gripe results in 3 stars instead of 4 stars ... your menu advertises 10 oz. hamburger and the hamburger I got was decidedly more like 4-5 oz. I said nothing to your server but if I return I will definitely say something about a smallish hamburger being advertised as a 10 oz. burger.
google avatar

Stefan S.

Yelp
Excellent brunch! Great location and love the food, and service is excellent! Wait staff is attentive to all needs! Order was literally cooked and served hot and correct, like it should be! My California omelette was delicious, potatoes flavorful and 7 Grain toast good and hearty. My side of bacon came out well done, as requested. My water glass was never empty for more than a couple minutes, which is very appreciated for someone who needs to drink lots of water per day. Despite the menu negative reviews, it was a great decision to come to this restaurant and meet our friends for brunch before heading back to our home state. I look forward to a return trip to this fine establishment!
google avatar

Larry R.

Yelp
Service was attentive and well done- accommodated all our requests with no problem. My wife's roasted chicken strips were done to perfection and was accompanied by a nicely done baked potato and broccoli- great value for the money. My mushroom omelette was done to perfection along with 3 large tomato slices. Coffee was copious and tasty. It's really a Greek diner parading as a Manhattan bistro. We'll be back whenever we are in the area

Lisa B.

Yelp
I went to a midweek late lunch and basically had the entire outdoor area to myself and it was set off of the pedestrian area of the sidewalk, so it felt covid safe. A staff member wiped down the table as I was walking towards the entrance and also explained to me that he had just cleaned the table right before I sat down. Staff were attentive and nice, but not overbearing. Food came out relatively quick and was attractively arranged. Sandwich was on a higher price side, but then again included service in a heated and nice outside setting. I liked the classic vibe of the place.
google avatar

Sally S.

Yelp
Not sure why this place isn't getting more stars. Sure it's overpriced! It's the Eastside!!! What do you expect? I'm sure their rent is off the charts and let's face it- these people can afford to pay... they're all dressed like they just got off of a yacht and are in the mood to slum it a little with a burger, an omelette... or a Greek salad... to see how the simple folk live! Hey, all I know is that I had the Huevoes rancheros and it hit the spot BIGTIME. In fact I was a bit suprised... Perfect over easy eggs and beautiful presentation ( for a coffee shop) Oh well ...$22 later I still can pay my rent... although I think most here have property taxes...I know I spelled the ouevos wrong. I just heard a rich lady in the booth across say on the phone, " Polly, I'm sitting at 2 Guys.."... 2 Guys- 3 Guys- the point is that it's " Guys "... not " Gentlemen "... I think this woman's earrings could probably be a small down payment on a house in Westport. Oh! I just got the check! $25 before tip... I am sated. Although I won't be taking cabs for a month. PS-Service impeccable and they clearly care... food arrived promptly!!! Great for people watching too

Grant J.

Yelp
There is no better diner in Manhattan than this one. I've been going here almost weekly all my life. Their Greek food is even better than their breakfast

Anna B.

Yelp
Food is good but the people who work there are assholes. If a customer orders food from your restaurant and you don't send the full order, you shouldn't ask "do you really need that?" when the customer calls to report the missing item. This is not rocket science. Or maybe it is?
google avatar

Jiho S.

Yelp
I see most people here complaining about the high prices. Interestingly I find them about average for NYC and almost reasonable. $13 for an omelette with home fries and toast doesn't sound far fetched. I've seen diners elsewhere in midtown that charge much more. That being said agree with most other posts, the food here is pretty bad. I can't judge the entire menu based on one omelette dish I had but based on the way it looks and tasted, I can't imagine anything else here is good. If Chipotle Queso is a crime against cheese, this place is a crime against American Diners. My omelette looked over cooked, the cheese looked like it was sliced sandwich cheese, the jalapeños were pickled but so sour and over powering, and the sausage had a just a plain weird taste to it. All together makes me wonder, what did I just eat? I have hope that they must do something good, but good luck finding it. Extensive diner menu typical of diners with what looks like a hundred menu items but really curious what they are good at. Perhaps Greek? Perhaps burgers which they claim are the best in the city. Perhaps sandwiches because well it's hard to mess up a sandwich. Who knows. Anyways nothing is worse than walking out of an establishment and thinking your breakfast was so awful that you were better off eating a $1 breakfast burrito at McDonald's or frying eggs at home yourself. Oh yeah closing more, they charge for drink refills...smh lol
google avatar

Francesca J.

Yelp
I was happy to have a place to eat outdoors. The service was kind, however, it was hot and no one came to check on me or my drink after the food was delivered, and I really needed some water. The food was subpar: limp oily fries, barely any browned avocado, and tough chicken, and there was plastic wrap inside my panini. I'm guessing it was from the mozzarella. I did bring it up to the server but nothing more was said. I know the high price is normal for the UES location and Covid times, but I would not trust them to serve me food again even for a lower price.
google avatar

Echo L.

Yelp
Keep your order very simple. Go with things that are hard to screw up. Fried eggs. Fries. A sausage. A burger. Bacon. A pancake. Don't go for anything fancy or tricky. It's just not worth it. And don't order a chicken wrap. Or any wrap. Simple. Simple. A bowl of chicken soup. Enough. Eat. Leave. You're not here for big dishes.
google avatar

Yelp
$25 Salad! $20 Omelet! $18 Gyro- Gotta be wealthy to eat healthy..on Madison Avenue! Three Guys is an excellent restaurant with one of those menus that has giant pages full of fare from Breakfast to Salads and Hamburger Fare. You will pay the price, but you will be very satisfied and full! For breakfast we tried the Challah french Toast and their breakfast sausage links (wow!!), their LEO omelet (with house made smoked salmon- yum), and the raison bread French Toast. Try the freshly quizzed juices: The Grapefruit was amazing! For lunch, we tried the salads. The Teriyaki Salmon with Mangos was perfect and served with a very very generous well-cooked piece of salmon. The gyro sandwich and gyro plate did not disappoint! Quick, clean, friendly and efficient- if you find yourself hungry on the Upper East Side, Three Guys will do the trick!
google avatar

Mary Ann D.

Yelp
I was staying at The Surrey so the location was great, especially during a heat wave. Service was prompt, food was good, menu had many choices!!
google avatar

Elena Mas Volpe ..

Yelp
It's in a great area (right near fifth ave) so the prices are what you expect (WAY high) but its right next to central park and the menu selection is huge and includes breakfast. Breakfast is all day, except for the breakfast wraps, which makes no sense, but still french toast and omelettes are up for selection. The salads are huge and delicious. I got the BBQ chicken one and they give a lot of chicken, which is perfect. They also give dressing on the side, but I honestly didn't even use it with all the BBQ sauce already there. The actual restaurant itself is very diner-ish and is actually huge for a place in manhattan, very spacey booths. Also I suggest getting the half melon (even though it sounds odd). It's a great dessert or appetizer and is fun to share with friends.
google avatar

Abigail N.

Yelp
The service is always just alright. The servers make sure you have what you need and then don't come around back at all. I've had salads, an avocado blt, a veggie burger and their mimosas. Everything, unfortunately was pretty bad. It's always packed which makes you think that the food would be alright but it really is a disappointment. I don't think I can go back there, the prices do not justify the sub par food.
google avatar

Anna K.

Yelp
Tuna salad sandwich $14, no fries, no coleslaw, no nothing, oh yeah 1/4 pickle. I usually complain about portions being too big at establishments as such, diner, this one needed some type of side. To my surprise tuna salad sandwich was solid, fresh. Service, there isn't any really.
google avatar

Peter I.

Yelp
For what it is, 5 stars! I was recommended by the Surrey and they were right! I had the burger Deluxe and asked for it medium. Came out perfect. Wine list is solid and a huge Greek menu. Breakfasts look great so I'll be back!

Yelp
On a recent Saturday afternoon, my good friend, Raven, her daughter, Marlena, and her mother, Sarah, spent much of the afternoon in Central Park. When Marlena fell asleep - all tuckered out from visits to Victoria Gardens and Central Park Zoo - we all needed a recharge as well, so we stop by Three Guys for a snack and some coffee. Luckily, the place was empty, so there was no problem getting a seat. The service was good and fast, again, as there were few customers at that moment. Looking at the menu, we were all a bit shocked at the prices. For me, I reasoned that a diner on Madison had no worries charging a few extra dollars. Raven, who's been to Three Guys on E 96 Street, said the prices at that diner were considerably less. Well, Raven and I split a Belgian waffle a la mode, with all the fixings. Thought the waffle could have been cooked a little longer, it was tasty for an afternoon treat. Also, as we told them we planned to split the dish, the actually split it for us, halving the waffle and creating plates for the each of us! Nice touch and much easier to eat. Three Guys is definitely a decent diner and certainly close to the park, but if you have the energy, you may want to travel a bit further to another diner for more typical prices.
google avatar

Melissa H.

Yelp
Just a solid little neighborhood place, charming. Great local atmosphere. Staff was friendly and Johnny-on-The-spot. Costs was reasonable. This is not a gourmet place, just good every day food at a reasonable price.

Alixe Q.

Yelp
Don't waste your money in this "restaurant". The service was non existent but we thought that the food would be good at least. Big DISAPPOINTMENT, the first appetizer we got looked very cheap for its price and was not even complete. It was supposed to be buffalo wings with celery sticks. However, there were NO celery sticks on the plate. We had to ask the server for them, who looked surprised that it was part of the dish..and he came back with a plate that had barely any celery in it (as you can see on the picture). The rest of the dishes that came after that were mediocre as well. I have no idea how they have the audacity to give they dishes such high prices for such low quality food. Will definitely NEVER come back!
google avatar

Steve E.

Yelp
Overpriced and overcooked omelets and to add insult to injury cost almost 40 dollars. What happened to the time when diners were a reasonably priced place to eat?
google avatar

Nina R.

Yelp
Expensive for the quality of food you get. Presentation bleh, looks sad. We both had omelettes and each was $13 & $14! At least we got a toast with it. My bf ordered pancakes and I thought oh ok must be like 4 of them for that price. Ended up being two pancakes. Geez! Well service was fast. Oh and if you want soup ask what they have. When we went on a Saturday, they only had chicken & minestrone...overall its an ok place but rather eat at IHOP or Denny's chain restaurants.
