"The Three Legged Dog Tavern is an under-the-radar locals dive in the heart of the Quarter, known for daily crawfish boils and piping hot bar food served into the wee hours. Yes, it is fairly grungy, but friendly staff and patrons balance it out." - Eater Staff

Google
one of the best burgers i’ve ever had. truly grilled. smokey taste. worth it ! food came up fast - pretty cool environment.

Jessica Nolan

Google
Best crawfish we could find around the French Quarter. Open later than anywhere else and serving huge portions for prices you can't beat. Loved the dive atmosphere and classic boil set up with no frills

Reggie Ledee

Google
Best crawfish we’ve ever had! Mat and Butters are awesome bartenders. Came back 3 days in a row for crawfish and their beer specials. Open 24 hours. If you are visiting New Orleans, you have to stop in The Three Legged Dog bar!

Google
Absolutely loved this place while visiting. Didn't hear any music just Breaking Bad' reruns on the TV which suited me just fine. I had the crawfish boil 3 times in two nights. Amazing!!! Also tried the mozzarella sticks and battered mushrooms and they were both perfect bar food snacks. Excellent service that doesn't discriminate tourists from locals. I frequent New Orleans as much as a Canadian can and I'll be back for sure!!!!

Google
The grits they make are the best you'll ever have - and I'm not much of a grits enthusiast. It's a combination of shrimp, sausage, smoked gouda, and without exaggeration and total honesty: a MASTERPIECE. The crayfish boil is also excellent. Drinks are not overpriced. Atmosphere is dive bar, but in a genuine way. Staff was friendly. Honestly, it's kind of a mind blowing hidden gem.

Jill

Google
We stopped by here for their crawfish boil, and it did not disappoint. Their boil had delicious crawfish, sausage, corn, potatoes, garlic, and peppers. The staff was fun, friendly and very helpful.

Google
Came here 15 years ago then again in September and it was exactly as I remembered it. The divey-ist dive in Nola. Great for late night snacks but yeah probably not the cleanest. Decent drink specials and always open. Great tots and fried pickles.

Randy

Google
This might be the dirtiest dive bar I have ever been to, and I loved it. Many reviews say there are rats here(think how many places have them and you just didn't know), and my wife saw one but don't let that steer you away from this little gem. I recommend the crawdad boil, you can't go wrong. Beers were good and place was fun. Seriously, just get the crawdad boil and beers and you will be just fine.

Yelp
Iconic. Stumbled in here at 3am just to see they were still serving a bucket of crawfish. The exact restaurant I imagined reading Confederacy of Dunces. What an experience playing the slots while Jimmy Hendrix in the background

Yelp
Might not be for everyone, but the Three Legged Dog is a great bar if you like dives, and is probably my favorite bar in New Orleans. They're open 24/7 and serve food. The food is good bar food, and the drinks are cheap. The bartenders are definitely characters, but they're friendly and the service is good. If you're looking for somewhere fancy, this is definitely not your spot. But if you want a few cheap drinks and to strike up an interesting conversation with a stranger, you can't do much better.

Yelp
I finally experienced a crawfish boil thanks to this place. Overall I thought it was good, but the crawfish had much smaller tails than other places I've seen. I'm giving this place 2 stars because the bathrooms had no soap and after eating crawfish out of the cooler that everyone was scooping out of, it really grossed me out.

Yelp
Came here for the crawfish, but lemme first tell you this place smells awful. Looks questionable. Def a local hole in the wall. The staff was super friendly and chill. The smell makes me wanna give it three stars. The crawfish was pretty solid though. You get a Togo box and fill it up (2lbs) and it was about 24bucks/lb. Ate quickly and left. I don't know about the other food.

Andrew L.

Yelp
Cool place stopped in each night in town chill vibe cool locals. Yes they have rats but most of these restaurants in all cities do unfortunately.

Yelp
THEY HAVE RATS!!!!!!... Worst place ever they had giant rats inside the place and refused to give me a refund. The guy was very rude he told me welcome to an ancient years old building, so I guess that was to make it better that they had rats. The restrooms were filthy dirty. I don't see how they're still in business

Yelp
I've been coming here for years (when in town) and I LOVE this place! Bartenders are friendly, 2 for 1 price of drinks, & a delicious crawfish boil served while in season nightly at 6pm! The price depends on availability BUT honestly whatever the cost, I always pay bc I love them so much. lol Don't let the look / ambiance of the place deter you! Just SIT DOWN and eat some good ole, flavorful crawfish... you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Yelp
Legit dive bar playing awesome 90s alternative (hey I'm old). Bartender made an excellent Bloody Mary. Loved the spicy crisp green beans in there. Hubby and I split the fried pork loin sandwich and tots. It was huge and excellent. We also got an order of crawfish smoked queso. The tortilla chips are made in house. The queso had a nice smoked flavor but tasted like doctored up Velveeta. It was still pretty good and that didn't stop us from finishing it off. Loved the ambience and the bartender made us feel welcome. Food and drinks were reasonably priced especially for the French Quarters.

Marayla J.

Yelp
I came to taste their crawfish boil. I was in town for Father's Day weekend. While examining the crawfish in the giant cooler, a rat ran across the dining room floor. I left immediately after that never tasting the food.

Yelp
The absolute best. Crawfish is happening. Reese is ready for sure!!! Haven't been for too long to remember.

Yelp
Came to Three Legged Dog after having it saved on my list for NOLA for years! I saved it after seeing it on one of Anthony Bourdain's shows (RIP). It definitely is a local spot, they do a crawfish boil once per day at set times (6pm weeknights). The crawfish boil is simple: the bartender gives you a box and you can fill it up with as much as you want, as long as the box closes, you're good. All for $25. The crawfish boil is in a cooler and has corn, potatoes, garlic gloves on top of crawfish. It's spicy, but good! Restrooms are a bit dingy and tables are a bit sticky - but it's expected for a local spot that's a bit of a-hole-in-the-wall.

Yelp
HOW???? I seen 2 rate bro!!?! Nasty place. Please shut the freak down. Food should be discounted at 50 percent or less.
google avatar

Shanta B.

Yelp
Love the vibe, great service. We had the spinach and artichoke dip and loved it! Would definitely go back to this bar.
google avatar

Kayla B.

Yelp
Came here for the crawfish boil and it did not disappoint! Excellent flavor and value. The bar is a little dingy and loud, but this didn't bother me as I knew what to expect from a dive bar. The service was fast, kind, and welcoming.
google avatar

Dannielle G.

Yelp
The food and drinks were fantastic, and they were dog friendly as well! We were a bit too early for the crawfish, but the burgers and fries were delicious after a long drive in. Would definitely go back next time I'm in NOLA.
google avatar

Yelp
This was solid food, freshly prepared, at 2 in the morning. Burger was excellent with a good beef patty and fresh lettuce and tomato. Fries also quite good. I think wife had a salad and some fried fish, which she enjoyed. Beer selection okay. Busy takeout business a testament to the quality of the food! Staff cordial, fellow patrons friendly. Dark but clean, classic bar decor. Floor is uneven and so getting chairs to not rock was a challenge we could not meet, so we ate at the bar. Television set to sports. Parking on the street is somewhat limited. A great experience and highly recommended especially late at night when food options become limited.

Yelp
This is a dive bar feeling with 2 for 1 beer bottles and cans. They also serve crawfish boil at 6pm and on weekends 6pm and 12pm. The crawfish are fresh and juicy. The seasoning is delicious and spicy. It includes onion, garlic, corn, jalapeño, Serrano, scotch bonnet (i think), corn, sausage, little wieners, and pineapple. You can get 2lbs or 4lbs and you fill one side of the box but you have to be able to close it. The people that work here are great! Yesterday I learned how Todd makes his crawfish boil. Dylan for making the meanest Bloody Mary, Sam, Ace, and Elenor for great customer service. Until next time!
google avatar

Madison H.

Yelp
Food looked great! Wish i could've tried it, too busy trying to hear the bartender over an older man screaming at the end of the bar. About 5 minutes after the cook yelled at him to basically stfu, a man asking to switch seats with me because "his was too short". Never experienced something so disrespectful at a bar coming from a female. Customer service and music were GREAT, if anything the clientele not so much.
google avatar

Monique L.

Yelp
Cool bar with laid back vibes to hang out with friends. We ordered their crawfish and it had so much flavor. Would definitely swing by here again, especially to avoid the touristy crowds.
google avatar

Cindy Q.

Yelp
I want to love this place with the raving reviews. I love the hole in the wall, old time look and decor. So excited for the crawfish- they were so salty... flavors are there but the saltiness was overwhelming. You are asking for hypertension for eating these. It's a cute bar but I would pass on the crawfish.
google avatar

Roberto G.

Yelp
Random place I walked up to. Just a normal hole in the wall bar. Nothing fancy and nothing exciting. The few things I tried on the menu was just normal bar food, unique in its own way but still just bar food. One thing I will say is the staff was awesome. The drinks were a plenty and they even had 2 for 1 drinks specials. Overall, I had a blast but the food was just so so.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Came in the wrong season for crawfish, but that was okay. I enjoyed eating queso on top of fries while drinking 2 for 1 beer. Also, I got to watch the walking dead for quite some time during my visit. Hoping to come back during season and this will be my first stop!
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Cool lil dive bar away from all the wild-ness in the french counter. This is where many of the locals some to unwind. It's 24 hours ‍
google avatar

Morgan M.

Yelp
I'm a fan of dive bars and frequent them often. I know that there's an expectation of the kind of place you're walking into and it's not always having to be the cleanest place you'll find. However I also know there's health inspections that take place and minimum standards need to be met, even if your goal is to be a scumbag hang out. When a rat that was easily 10 inches long walked through the dining area and the bartender was a little less than concerned, it should give one pause before stopping in.

Peter N.

Yelp
1) It most certainly is a dive bar. 2) No music at all. 3) 12:30 AM no food for at least another 30 minutes for a "shift change". 4) I didn't want to listen for an hour to someone else's conversation, the other two people in the joint. 5) Beers are 2 for 1, you cannot buy one, charge is built in for 2. No food. No music. I have to buy two drinks. No sale, I left. (if you aren't sure about the dive bar bona fides, use the toilet.) Three stars for being a legitimate dive bar and having a sign on the swinging doors that says "Sorry...we're open!"
google avatar

Wanda E.

Yelp
Ok I wanted so badly to love this place and I would have had there not been several giant rats running around the bar. The bartender said .. nothing they can do about it .. and I don't even know what to think about that . The place seemed fairly clean yet very old and run down. Definitely a dive bar !! The ribs were so good.... Until the rat . I just couldn't eat after seeing several different rats running around over peoples feet at times.
google avatar

Yelp
What a great little bar Beer was cold Crawfish were perfect Spicy and mixed with corn and potatoes, and Boudin sausage and petite mushrooms Oh, and did I say spicy Everyone in the packed bar was sucking head and eating tail-crawfish
google avatar

Lizbeth E.

Yelp
Open 24/7 & the bar food was on point! Great service had a blast and it was 350 ft from my hotel can't beat it. Dive bar dream. Figured I'd elaborate because I wrote my review during a day/night of drinking. I had such a great experience I didn't want to wait to rate this location. Bartender was a blast, being the night before st paddies we played a game for a chance to win prizes. I won a free shot (I didn't need anymore alcohol but woohoo). My friend won a Jameson tank top. The food is a drunk persons dream come true. All the perfect meals to help you survive a weekend on Bourbon street. I wish I would have taken photos of the fried to perfection food, but we inhaled it rather quickly.

Dionne B.

Yelp
Had a great time here the staff was friendly as usual and the crawfish was on point . Don't miss this fun dive bar! Love this place!
google avatar

Brandi G.

Yelp
The thing that really puts this place down ,review wise, is the stench once you enter. I almost left over the overwhelming smell of ammonia/ urine. This place is open 24 hours, but they clearly need to close once in a while and CLEAN. Made me nervous to try the food, but I did. It wasn't bad, actually. I just wish you could sit somewhere that didn't smell like the men's bathroom without the benefit of a urinal disinfectant puck. Nothing like eating or drinking where the place smells like a porta potty! The service was...interesting. Not terrible, but not particularly good either. I was definitely not their typical patron, to put it mildly. I suppose that anyone who is remotely sober in any way may be an outlier here. I do wish they would clean and make a minimal effort to be a bit more neighborly though. I live right down the street and sometimes when I need a bite to eat, it would be nice to have something you can pop into and grab something. Not sure this is that place. It was fairly uncomfortable for me to even go in there, I'm not shy nor wimpy, but it seems like it can get really out of hand there fast. I went in broad daylight and that's the only way I'd ever go back, frankly. Probably desperation. Seems like they thrive in desperation, actually. Invest in one of those nose plugs and bring your taser. You'll be fine. Possibly.

Yelp
We arrived in New Orleans late and walked here to get a bite to eat. Out we found this dive bar on Yelp. The seating area is small with high tables and chairs. We had to order our food and drinks at the bar because it was after 10 pm when we got there. I highly recommend you get the smoked crayfish queso poured over fries. We also ordered chicken tenders with tots. Everything came out of the kitchen piping hot. The tenders were well breaded and crunchy. I had a Who Dey golden ale that I will be seeking out again during our trip. If you like a small dive bar experience you can't go wrong here.
google avatar

Genevieve F.

Yelp
I feel strange giving five stars to a dive bar with rats but ya' gotta love the French Quarter. And there is an outdoor courtyard encouraging both the two and four legged beasties, You buy a clamshell plate that holds 2 or 4 lbs of crawfish. I got the two pound and it filled me up. And it was so good -absolutely delicious crawfish. They also do 2-4-1 beers. I ordered Abita Purple Haze which they counted as imported beer which is laughable because it's manufactured less than an hour from New Orleans to Abita Springs! Still they were everything I expected and more!

Genna T.

Yelp
THEY HAVE RATS!!!!!! I saw large rat scurry directly behind the fryer. Not bad service but bartender was slamming shots.
google avatar

Rumesh V.

Yelp
First night in New Orleans and already off to a great start. Landed around 9pm and started yelping looking for crawfish near my Airbnb, and found this beauty right next to my Airbnb. I started reading reviews and I was very nervous because most of the reviews mentioned that they run out of crawfish close to 6;30 or 7pm. Maybe I lucked out cause it was Monday evening. So, they give you a to go box and you can pile on as much as possible for $24 in one box. Pretty decent for the amount of crawfish I could stuff in one box. It was very good. Every bite had a nice flavor of spices and nice kick to it. You don't want to eat bland crawfish, so this was perfect. Highly recommend scooping up some onions, potatoes, and corn as well. They blend in so well. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Cary N.

Yelp
This a bar plain and simple. So one should not expect it to be anymore. It just happens to have great crawfish. It was awesome. Hand downs amazing. It had great flavor and the price is very reasonable. Definitely good and looking forward to eat there the next time I'm in New Orleans.
google avatar

Madhurupa M.

Yelp
Amazing people in the bar, we wanted to get away from the craziness of bourbon street. Loved their loaded fries, tater tots, chicken tenders, fried pickles (we went there multiple times). Couldn't try their crawfish since it's out of season, but will definitely recommend if you are in the area, and have good drinks! Will definitely revisit again!

M m.

Yelp
Fun local dive popular with late nite service crowd...awesome bartenders and great late nite crawfish (when available). Doubles and 2 fers...love this place...

Patrick K.

Yelp
Coolest dive bar and the best crawfish boil in the city. All the staff were friendly and they had great local beers on tap.
google avatar

Erin M.

Yelp
Stopped in here for crawfish our first night in town. The bartender was exactly what we love, friendly but not sappy, definitely less of a touristy spot. Loved seeing her interact with the regulars. Drinks were stiff, crawfish boil was spicy and delicious with huge portions. We stuffed a styrofoam container to the absolute brim and shared it between two of us. Also in the boil were potatoes, multiple kinds of sausage, corn, pineapple chunks, and jalapeño. Yummmm. Bonus note - standing on a close corner a few nights later, our bartender walked by and said hey, most people wouldn't take the time to recognize a few tourists but she did, very cool.
google avatar

Caryl B.

Yelp
Omg! Talk about bang for your buck! $25 for an "all you can fit in a styro container" crawfish was wonderful and satisfying! I didn't need much that day because I was a bit full, but saw a few others who were able to fill their containers twice as much for the same price. They start at 6pm and the bar seemed a bit intimidating but their staff was really so friendly and the overall atmosphere was relaxing and light. The crawfish was fresh and flavorful. The first batch was gone pretty quickly but I think they do make multiple batches a night during crawfish season. This is such a great idea! And such a flavorful experience!

Jasmine M.

Yelp
Years later and this place is still the same. Got here around 3 am. Huge rat walked in the bar and bartender just welcomed it in like it was nothing. But they had food so... lol do with that information what you will.
google avatar

Madison M.

Yelp
Best crawfish we've ever had!! Started off with the 2 lb. box and had to come back the next day (even after dinner w/ my family) for more! The crawfish is only served after 6 PM, though. We wished it was available for lunch, too!

Ashely E.

Yelp
We've been several times over the years and the food has always been good and the service has been phenomenal... thank you Sam and Blake for ending our last night rememberable. Definitely going back!
google avatar

Dallas N.

Yelp
Best crawfish I've ever had. Service was ok? Go after 6pm as they don't serve crawfish before that time. Kinda disappointing as they're known for their crawfish, but glad I went back to give the Three Legged Dog a chance.
google avatar

Chanel P.

Yelp
First time in nola and I got sent here by someone at my hotel . I'm so glad I went SLAMMIN CRAWFISH . Try to get there early while they nice and hot
google avatar

Tony L.

Yelp
This place is freaking amazing!!! Not only is it 2 for 1 always, but you MUST try the burgers! The best burger I've EVER had. Try the smoked Mayo. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Sylvia D.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The crawfish had so much flavor and is so fresh. We can here on Friday and they had a batch of crawfish that came in and the price was worth it. The crawfish was well seasoned. Just delicious
google avatar

Dom S.

Yelp
Great dive bar for late night drinks, staff is welcoming as hell and the locals were all chill. Have to come back during crawfish season though because this place apparently has some bomb boils!
google avatar

Samuel M.

Yelp
I always find myself waking up at 3am unable to fall back asleep. So I decide to do the responsible thing, as an adult.. I take a shower then go there and get drunk while snacking on their crawfish. If you're like me, this is a great spot! You NEVER know what you're going to see in this place but it's never a dull moment.
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Service was bad. The bartender treated everyone like a deadbeat who was trying to rob the place. And, in the end, he robbed me. $15 for a Steigler? $9 for an Abita - in a dive bar? Unfortunately I was running a card; but someone went home without a tip. On top of everything else: We had to clear away three dead roaches and saw a big rat near where we were playing darts.
