Here Are the Hottest New Restaurants in the East Bay, June 2024

"Chef Mario Vollera brings his pizza knowledge to the Bay Area after stints in Italy, New York, and Los Angeles, where he opened his pizzeria South End. Now at Three One Four in Berkeley, his pizza is a mix of different styles, he told the San Francisco Chronicle, bringing sourdough, New York-style thin crust, and word-fired Neapolitans together into one pie. Expect a menu of starters, salads, and ten different pizzas, such as the Golden Bear, topped with mozzarella, burrata, smoked bacon, honey, and arugula." - Dianne de Guzman

Review of three.one four Pizzeria in Berkeley Nestled in the historic Lalime’s space in Berkeley’s Westbrae neighborhood, three.one four Pizzeria delivers a swanky yet welcoming dining experience that lives up to its reputation as a “pizza lounge.” From the moment you step into the elegantly designed space, with its comfortable yet sophisticated ambiance, you’re greeted with warm hospitality that makes you feel right at home. The owner’s personal touch, often seen tending to details like watering flowers, adds to the community-driven vibe. The menu, crafted by acclaimed Chef Mario Vollera, is a standout, blending traditional Italian flavors with creative twists. The Lalime pie, a nod to the location’s heritage, is a flavor powerhouse. Topped with braised lamb, sun-dried tomatoes, feta, red onion, and tzatziki, it’s a Mediterranean-inspired masterpiece that balances rich, savory notes with a refreshing tang. Each bite bursts with bold, harmonious flavors, showcasing the high-quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation. Equally impressive is the cacio e pepe pasta, a decadent dish that elevates the classic Roman recipe with heavy cream, pecorino, black pepper, and parsley. It’s creamy, peppery, and deeply satisfying, with a flavor profile that lingers long after the last bite. The dish is a testament to the kitchen’s ability to innovate while respecting tradition. The sourdough crust on the pizzas is perfectly fluffy yet crisp, and the curated wine list offers excellent pairings to complement the food. The service is attentive and knowledgeable, with staff offering great recommendations that enhance the experience. While the price point reflects the premium ingredients and upscale vibe (expect around $100-$150 for a party of two with appetizers, entrees, and drinks), the quality justifies the cost. The only minor drawback is that the space can get a bit noisy during peak hours, but it doesn’t detract from the overall enjoyment. For a flavorful, memorable dining experience, three.one four is a must-visit gem in Berkeley’s vibrant culinary scene. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to try more of their creative offerings.

BEAUTIFUL! Nice swanky upscale but not stuck up. All types were in sight and everyone was friendly. Menu has range but also not overwhelming with options. Bar drinks we tasty and bartender was a love of fun. Definitely will be back. Also we sat at bar so not sure how long the table wait was.

Went here for a date night with my hubby. It was a nice experience. The food was delicious and the ambiance was nice. Parking is a nightmare because it's in a somewhat residential area, and we were told as soon as we arrived that we had to leave in an hour and a half because they were fully booked. Also people kept getting confused as to where the entrance is so they kept trying to enter through the lower dining room. But other than that, this place was perfect. I recommend the Cacio e pepe.

This is a really cool and different pizza place. I especially enjoyed the pepperoni & sausage pizza along with the special of the day (we went on a Saturday) which was their oven baked shrimp Alfredo. So delicious! My wife and I finished all but two slices (out of 6) that we ordered. We even ate the bread that the shrimp Alfredo was baked in lol. Their cocktails are tasty and served in a creative and elegant way. We chose to sit by the fireplace as well, which provided a sophisticated experience. The owner greeted our table and kindly shared the specials of the day. He stopped chatting with us and apologized because Barry Bonds (yes the former SF Giants baseball player) walked in. If you’re craving unique, bougie, and classy pizza in an upscale environment you gotta check out 314 Pizza. They are also black owned but I did not see any black workers in the establishment. That would be my only critique to the owner. If you’re proud to be black owned, you should probably have a more inclusive/diverse staff in the facility. Otherwise, I will definitely grab a bite here again!

The pasta and the pizza were delicious! They pepare the pasta tableside, so it was a nice fancy touch. They had meatballs I will have to go back to try! I also love when Im at. Restaurant and the owner is around. He was interacting with other diners and answered some of my questions, so to me, that's a great thing. And it's a black owned business! I believe one of the first black owned pizza/ italian inspired restaurants in Berkeley!

An Unforgettable Culinary Journey at three.one four – A Berkeley Gem! From the moment we walked into three.one four, we knew we were in for a special experience. The ambiance immediately impressed, with a chill, low-fi vibe and a wonderfully diverse and welcoming group of locals. The staff were incredibly friendly, making us feel right at home. The food, however, was the true star of the show. The Cacio e Pepe was a masterpiece – the noodles were seasoned to perfection, incredibly tender, and the theatrical tableside tossing in a giant cheese block was a delightful touch. It was simply divine. We also indulged in "Grandmother's Meatballs," which were cooked just right and boasted a truly rich, satisfying flavor. For our pizza, we chose the Lalime, and it did not disappoint. The wood-fired crust was amazing, offering the perfect flake and a fantastic texture that truly showcased the quality of their dough. A huge shout-out to our bartender, Vanessa, who was an absolute standout! Her "New Fashion" cocktail was not only crafty and flavorful but a testament to her skill. Thanks to Vanessa and the excellent happy hour specials, the overall cost was incredibly reasonable for such a high-quality dining experience. three.one four is more than just a restaurant; it's a culinary journey. With amazing food, a fantastic atmosphere, and exceptional service, it's a must-visit in Berkeley. We can't wait to return!

Went here this evening. This place has such an AMAZING relaxed, sexy, moody vibe! It's so well considered and the aesthetic is on point! Great date spot idea or just to go out and dine with friends. Casual classy vibes. We had the Meatballs, Honey Bear Pizza, and Did You Say Potato Pizza, the Canolie Flight for dessert. Everything was good! Even the wine that Brandon suggested. We didn't know that the owner was taking our order (Brandon) until he was leaving and mentioned that it was his spot. Shout out to Brandon W.! (Your staff told us your last name). Amazing job putting this spot together! You and your staff are wonderful! It was our first time there and I appreciate you! Thank you! 🙏🏼 The experience was impressive! Good luck on all your other ventures!

Yelp
A super cute, swanky vibe perfect for a fun night out or date night vegetarians and gluten friendly. The service was top-tier: the staff was so attentive and really made sure we had everything we needed throughout. We even got to meet the owner such a kind and welcoming guy! Highly recommend checking this place out if you haven't already. Pro tip: they suggested making a reservation since evenings tend to get busy. Don't sleep on this spot!

Yelp
I liked everything I tasted at Three One Four. I'd happily get the Ghost Town pizza and the meatballs again. Service was kind and attentive. If i went back on a date, I'd love to sit in the two seats near the fireplace. My daughter was low energy when we arrived but steadily perked up as the food arrived and wanted to share her thoughts in this review. My kid's perspective: - I really liked the fried dough and sauce that came with the meatballs! - The sad thing is that it only comes with three pieces of fried dough so we each only got one. I wish there were more! - It is magnificent! She's already asked us to return, which we probably will!

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place, but I was underwhelmed. The interior decor is lovely. Nice ambiance. We started with the Caesar salad. It was pretty tasty and we loved the anchovies. However a third of the way through, we realized the homemade croutons were omitted. We notified our server who said he'd be back. He returned to the table and advised the manager would take 50% off the salad on our tab. I thanked him and we stared at each other for a bit, then I had to ask if we could actually get some croutons. He brought some out. The homemade croutons seemed to be just small bits of toasted bread, no olive oil, butter or seasoning. Next, we had the meatballs. The sauce was good, but the meatballs were a bit bland. We were excited about the cacio e pepe, which is prepared tableside in a wheel of pecorino romano. I found the pasta to be overcooked and the dish very bland. There was no cheese incorporated into the pasta sauce; Tossing the pasta in the cheese wheel did not achieve this. There was only cheese sprinkled on top. Nor was the pepper incorporated into the dish, just sprinkled on top as well with some parsley. So, the pasta just tasted like it was tossed in the cream, which traditionally isn't even in cacio e pepe. We were really disappointed with this dish. It seems the showy presentation trumps taste. We tried the deconstructed tiramisu for dessert. The mascarpone component is more of a foam with sugar added to sweeten. However, the sugar wasn't dissolved, so it was gritty. Service was just okay. Our server was friendly enough, but didn't check on us at all during our meal and was slow to remove dishes from the table. When the check arrived, the 50% comp on the salad didn't happen. I just paid and left. I'd consider possibly returning to try the pizza. There were some interesting pies on the menu. However, it's a long way to go when there are plenty of great pizza places where I live.

Yelp
The pizza and the service were EVERYTHING! The place was very cute and in a great area - street parking available and close to the freeway. More on the food: It was hard to decide on what to get because all the pizzas sounded so good. We landed on the golden bear and had not ONE regret! That hot honey was the icing on the cake! We went with their pasta special which was good. It honestly could've used just a tad more seasoning/flavor but it was still really good. The dessert was cool. We enjoyed the flavors of the cannoli flight though they seemed a little harder than what I'm used to. They weren't bad by any means. Drinks - all of them! Perfectly crafted. I cannot WAIT to come back.

Yelp
I enjoyed three one four. The place is charming both inside and out and service was so kind. They are busy on weekends, so make those reservations. While not sure I'd go super out of the way for it, for a neighborhood spot, it's a gem and I'd return. The really good: the pizza. Well cooked, good ingredients and well put together. We did the tasting meal for 2 and the pizza was the standout. We also went with the Caesar salad which was tasty. The meatballs were solid and the canoli flight was a sweet treat at the end. The not so great: the Fiamma cocktail I ordered wasn't the best. It was a tequila based drink but had an extremely thick and sweet smoothie/juice involved, making it almost undrinkable. I think the cocktail list in general could use a revamp. I love a good cocktail and none of these screamed out. 5 star ambiance, good pizza and a great location in a 'hood needing more restaurants. This makes a solid spot for date night or a friend catch up.

Yelp
Really nice ambiance inside with a good lively feel. Server was attentive in the beginning but it dropped off as the night went on. I think it was the owner who said our party of 3 could do the $65 menu for 2 people and add on a salad which was nice. He also let us use a $20 off redemption for the meal which was appreciated. We got the appetizers which was a salad and Brussels sprouts and then the pizza and pasta came out almost immediately afterwards so the timing of the food served was off. I would highly recommend they space out the entrees so you aren't forced to either eat everything or have cold entrees after you've had the appetizers. Brussels sprouts and the salad were probably the best. The pesto sauce was good but the pasta was too soft and mushy, not close to al dente. Pizza was cold by the time we got to it after working on the brussel sprouts and salad. As others have mentioned in reviews, it just tasted sweet and was not that good - the flavor profile was mediocre and the crust was 1/3 of the pie. We only had 4 slices out of the 6. We were given dessert menus but the server also forgot the $65 meal comes with a cannoli flight. This seemed pretty basic for the service if you order a set meal so I encourage the business to remind the servers and kitchen to bring out the dessert if a set menu was ordered. You don't get a choice for the dessert either so this was an oversight. The box they gave us for the remaining two slices really didn't fit well so I think my friend just shoved them together upside down. All in all, I hope we can try them another time because maybe it was an off night. Kudos for the set menu options and thanks to the gentleman who let us just get the $65 menu and redeem the $20 off. Hope my review helps them work out some kinks.

Yelp
I was really craving some cacio e pepe (even in spite of my mild egg allergy) and looked up nearby places that served it. To my delight, I found Three One Four Pizzeria and their food pics looked top notch, AND the reviews were great! My husband and I went to check it out and boy, we were so glad we did. First, the staff is very friendly and we enjoyed the vibe there. It's very well decorated and the ambiance feels cozy, classy, and private. The Brussels sprouts came first, and I LOVED that they came with bacon and green grapes! I haven't seen that combo before, and the bacon added a delicious richness while the grapes added some nice sweetness and freshness that balanced things out. I usually am not a fan of meatballs as I find they have too strong of an onion flavor, but the meatballs we had here were perfect for me. No overpowering onion taste, great texture, and excellent sauce that came with it. We also enjoyed the gnocchi fritto. The dough wasn't too oily and yet was still deliciously fried. We loved the cheeses and jam it came with. Perfect pairings! We really liked the pesto rigatoni, too. Lovely refreshing pesto flavor that wasn't too overpowering, and great al dente pasta. And...I LOVED the cacio e pepe. It was rich, deliciously cheesy, and the pasta was perfectly al dente. Finally, we also enjoyed the East Bay pizza! I loved that it had truffle that worked really well with the cheese. My husband and I will be back to have more!

Yelp
Food was good. The atmosphere was cute inside we sat outside. There was a lot of shuffling around of tables and heaters on the patio. This made for a noisy environment for the first 30 min of our dinner. Portions are relatively small which is fine, but if you are sharing order two pastas or two pizzas if you want leftovers.

Yelp
I don't like that far from here and after many friends raving about this place I had high expectations! We sat outside since it was bit warm and crowded inside. That was nice, even though there were a ton of flies. We order a lemonade and a ginger beer - the lemonade was maybe 1/2 cup since it was mostly crushed ice. We get the baby gem Caesar, baby gems are my favorite! It comes out and literally EVERY PIECE of lettuce had brown tips where you cut it, so it had been cut days before - i don't mind a few pieces like this, but literally every one. I ate it since I was starving by this point. It was tasty, and had there been no brown spots would have been the highlight of the meal. But for $20? I expect perfection. We ordered the lamb pizza (which I don't usually order but because I don't eat pork the menu is very limited) and it was decent enough, but the garlic sauce and tzatziki was just so much, I tasted garlic for hours and got heart burn. I may try it again if a friend wants to go, but sadly it left a bad taste in my mouth, and for $75 that was just too much for the price point. I get that it might have been an off night.

Yelp
I visited this restaurant on a whim a few weeks ago and it has STILL not left my mind. I will 10000% be back. My partner and I ordered the restaurant week menu for two. It was an amazing deal for a 3 course meal. We ordered the bruschetta I believe and the fried polenta as a starter, shared the truffle pizza, basil pesto pasta, and a flight of amazing cannolis. The service was very quick and friendly. The interior is very romantic and cute at night. We sat by the big window and loved it. I would highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area. This is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to in all of Nor Cal.

Yelp
You may be telling yourself there is no shortage of pizza places in Berkeley California. But there's no place like 3.14, so get yourself over here now. The first thing is that you may be welcomed by owner, Brandon. His warmth and charisma will make you feel like you're the only person in the room. This combined with the attentive staff and swanky atmosphere means you are certain to have a good time. If you get here early enough, you will be able to partake in delicious high-end cocktails for only five dollars. Yes, you read that right...five (5) dollars. I'm writing this in 2025, and my guess is that teaser rate is not going to last. I love the Bella. Often with a strawberry in an enormous piece of ice, the Bella, a gin-based drink with elderflower, Yuzu, sparkling, and plum, is as beautiful as its name indicates. Now let's move onto the food. Yes, I guess that's why we're here. The pizza is crispy and lush. I love the classics: pepperoni and the margarita, of course. But don't stop there, try the fried polenta, the roasted broccolini and the Squash it 3.0. The signature pasta dish is the Cacio de Pepe, served with love and generous pecorino cheese sauce. 3.14. It's easy as pie/pi to remember. Get ready for a memorable night. Bring a friend or two or more.

Yelp
We paid a visit to 314 pizzeria because of a coupon we had, an excuse to eat. We ended up getting the marg pizza, the golden bear pizza, cacio e pepe for the cheese wheel, and the tiramisu. Totally recommend the HH drinks - half off cocktails and $7 wines are worth coming back for. Marg - always my fav, and the classic was our fav for the night. Dough stood out above other pizzerias Golden bear pizza- the honey was a BIT too much and made the entire pizza sticky very quick - just a drizzle would've been enough. However, this is a more special one and would be great to pair w a savory pizza. Pasta - The cheese wheel cart was broken apparently, so we didn't get to see it up close - but the staff tried their best to bring it as close to us as possible. As for taste, I'm not a cacio e pepe expert, but this one did taste a bit bland. The ambience was a perfect date night - smart casual and for the locals but also modern. We appreciated each staff member who greeted us enthusiastically + were super helpful with drinks and recs. I must say the tiramisu was not the tastiest I've had - the ladyfingers were still a bit dry, bUT the presentation was fun! They build it in front of you, and I'm not sure if I know another Berkeley restaurant that does this. I must say that the prices are a bit high for what we had, but this place is def worth a try - esp for HH!

Yelp
We were delighted that Three-One-Four reopened after a fall reset and wanted to try it. The owner greeted us warmly as we checked in. We were seated on the Gilman Street side. Great to people-watch. The Berkeley Week appetizer was delicious with crunchy bread/toasts. Very original. The meatball was light and the sauce was tomatoe-y but not overly heavy. The pesto rigatoni was plentiful and a gorgeous color. Finally, we had the East Bay pizza which was crisp and blistered. Everything was done to order and the pacing was great. The cannoli were fine but the flavor of the fillings did not stand out. We would return to try more of the pastas and a different pizza. Glad to support this local business and the service was phenomenal. A date night spot for sure with the cozy fireplace.

Yelp
Such a beautiful restaurant with wonderful staff and delicious food. The happy hour drinks are a STEAL. $5 house cocktails is the best deal around. We ordered the cauliflower fritto to start, the aioli is the perfect sauce. I held back the leftover sauce to dip my crust into. Next was the potato bacon pizza, my husband loved it. So much delicious savory bacon. We also have the herbed ricotta pizza, that was my favorite with the fritto spicy sauce. The Itallian cosmo was my favorite cocktail, it was one of the best I've had in years. Cacaio e Pepe is served table side in the Parmesan wheel, we're ordering that next time for sure. Tiramisu was also served table side, so fun to watch and eat. Overall, happy hour is the best deal in Berkeley. There is no other place slinging these high quality drinks in an Insta worthy place with really delicious food. I would recommend this place to all my friends, but then I might have to wait for a table ;)

For reference, we can here on a Sunday (8:16pm-9:30pm...the didn't rush us out). We had: 1. Grandmother's Meatballs 2. Golden Bear Pizza 3. You Say Potato, I Say...Pizza 4. Cannoli Flight for dessert 5. Non-alcoholic beer 6. Wine Everything was good! Even the wine that Brandon suggested. We didn't know that the owner was taking our order (Brandon) until he was leaving and mentioned that it was his spot. Shout out to Brandon W.! (Your staff told us your last name). Yelp
10/10! The food...10! The service... 10! Ambiance...10! We decided to go "outside" at the last minute and had heard about Three. One Four. We did not have a reservation but were offered a table immediately. We opted to sit at the bar near the cozy fireplace... great choice! Chris - the bartender, and the young lady working with him - I didn't get her name - took excellent care of us. We had grandmother's meatballs to start. EXCELLENT! For our meal we had the lalime pizza... AMAZING, EXCELLENT and flavorful! I decided to be adventurous and ordered the the gin based cocktail, Bella, and it did not disappoint. We also had the fiamma which was my favorite. I can't wait to return for happy hour for $5 house cocktails!

Yelp
I was craving Italian food and wanted a warm, inviting ambiance that also allowed dogs--this place checked all the boxes! Right when I walked in, I noticed a cozy fireplace with two seats for waiting, setting the perfect tone. The interior is beautiful, and I appreciated the thoughtful accessibility feature--a lift for those with disabilities to go downstairs. We opted to sit outside, which turned out to be a great choice. The covered patio kept us dry from the light rain, and the outdoor heaters made it comfortably warm. I also loved that there was a charming event space in the back--I even checked their Instagram to see how others have used it for parties. For food, we started with roasted broccolini (lemon, garlic, anchovy, chili, grana padano) and cacio e pepe (heavy cream, pecorino, black pepper, parsley). The broccolini had a delicious balance of flavors, and while my pasta was good, I personally wished for a stronger black pepper taste--but that's just my preference. First time I had this pasta was in Rome and I expecting more of a stronger black pepper taste. My boyfriend ordered the "A Little Spicy" pizza (fine sausage, pepper jam, Calabrian chili oil, honey, arugula), which he enjoyed, noting it had a unique fruit-like sweetness rather than sugary sweetness. Since I can't handle spicy food anymore, I didn't try it--but he approved! To finish, we shared churros with caramel and fresh, sweet fruit, which was the perfect ending to our meal. We dined on a Saturday night (2/22/25) around 6PM and were seated immediately, likely because we chose to sit outside. The service was welcoming from start to finish, making the experience even better. I'm looking forward to returning--especially to check out their happy hour!

Yelp
This is the second time I've been here. Once with friends inside and once with my husband on the outside. It's a really lovely spot. We had the salad with apples and nuts, the pasta with creamy pesto, the east bay pie (truffle pizza), and of course their tiramisu. It was almost an identical meal as when I came with friends, but the other time we had the Brussel sprouts. Both times I loved the food and the service. The restaurant itself is quite beautiful too. Thumbs way up! It's affordable for the quality of food.

Yelp
Loved the service, loved the food, loved the drinks & Nami's help with our questions helped decision making so much easier. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Food - Excellent! I was so pleased with our selections. We got the pesto pasta and pizza. It was well seasoned and you can tell the ingredients and cheese were of good quality. It reminded us of the food we ate when we went to Italy. I love Caesar salads. It has become a hit or miss to find a good Caesar salad that checks all the boxes these days. Not here. It was delicious! I was recommended by my waiter a Chardonnay that I was pleased with and paired well with my dinner. The second time I visited, I had my girlfriends with me. We ordered A FEW espresso martinis and had a wonderful discussion about the movie we just watched. Sinners, go see it y'all! Anyways, we are snobs when it comes to a good espresso martini. We were pleased with theirs! Service - 5/5! I've been here twice now. Both times I'm greeted and acknowledged right away. The servers have all offered excellent food and wine selections. They are all professional while having Bay Area swag and character! I love that! The owner was there both times I visited. Very personable and hands on with his business. Ambiance - Hella nice! When you walk in it feels like you're in someone's home. I really liked it because it felt warm and inviting. The walls were black with a fire place that made the ambiance feel calming and excited to enjoy a glass of wine! As you walk in, you see the other part of the restaurant. The walls are a seductive pink. The accents of the lights and decor are gold. I love me some gold accents! The first time, I came with my husband. It was a weekday and we happen to be out after work so we decided to get dinner before going home. They were on my list of places I saved on Instagram. Unexpectedly, with the ambiance and good food, it turned into a real date! Spiced up our night! After this experience I wanted to bring my girlfriends which made me come a second time! They were impressed and thankful that I brought them. I'm so happy I found this place!

Yelp
The ambiance is so cozy and romantic. The service was top notch. We couldn't go 5 minutes without the genuinely nice staff checking up on us. The FOOD!!! Unforgettable! We'll definitely be back! We ordered 3 pies/pizzas for our table to share. The Lalime, the Nonna, and the Golden Bear. We ordered all 3 gluten free style, and let me tell you, as someone with celiac disease, it's hard to find an establishment with tasty gluten free options. They nailed it! 10 stars!

Yelp
Saw a couple of cool videos of their food online, so I decided to check them out. The Pies and pastas are all well over $25, so you expect a little more going in. I got the pasta pot pie, the presentation was cool but the flavors were mid. We also got the spicy sausage pizza and it was mostly bread. I like the concept and vibe so I wouldn't mind checking them out again down the line. They're a little newer so I expect them to figure it out over time.

Yelp
I dined at Three. One Four with my family and it was nothing short of amazing. From the gorgeous decor, to the hospitable staff, to the divine food. We ordered from the Berkeley Restaurant Week Menu: $68 per person and we got the fried Brussels (yum), pesto pasta (best I've ever had), truffle pizza (10/10), and cannoli flight (delish). I was so in the moment that I didn't even take any photos lol but I will definitely be back to try more items on the menu. The owner Brandon is an amazing business owner. Wishing him lots of success!

Yelp
This actually hurts me to write My friend and I were SOOOOO excited to come here. Black owned and we've seen other reviews on socials about it. We did a meal deal. It was an app, pasta, pizza, & dessert for like $60 or something. Honestly the only pic I took was the fried Brussels sprouts. I wish I took a video with the serving spoon in it. As soon as you moved everything on top, the brussies were literally SITTING in oil. When we asked, they said that's how it comes and it's from the bacon. When I tell you more than a quarter of the bottom of the bowl was literally just oil. It was pretty sick. They let us choose a new app, but the meatballs were bland and it was just disappointing. We got the vodka pasta. It came out steaming, but was cold. I'm convinced the plate was heated and the pasta was just thrown on top after sitting because it made no sense. Unfortunately, this plate was bland also. The pizza we got was like a meat pizza with honey. It just have sugar. Like straight up sweet. We didn't even get our dessert lol. But they noticed we were not touching our food and did ask us what was wrong. The waiter and owner were super nice about it. We did still pay for all the uneaten food, but at a discount. Ultimately, it was just a very disappointing experience, especially with the hype that we saw around this place. The waiter said "you have to come back when we aren't busy because the food is good!" But after that experience, I wouldn't.

Yelp
Cute restaurant and fairly busy on a Friday night but since it was cold out we got seated right away on the patio with heat lamps. The food was pretty good but wished we had maybe ordered different things. We ordered the meatballs and gnocco fritto for apps. The pesto pasta and golden bear pizza. The pesto pasta was probably our favorite. The dough on the pizza was pretty good. I would definitely skip the gnocco. Service was a bit off and slow for us, maybe they weren't planning on using the patio that night bc everything took a long time to get to us. I would try again bc the inside looked so cute.

Yelp
A friend of mine had told me about this place but I knew it had close for a little bit and now was reopened. We went there right when they opened up which was during happy hour. They had a good list of happy hour drinks on the menu and the prices were great. I ordered a glass of wine that was recommended by Brandon (owner) and it was really good. We also ordered a mix drink that was really good as well. We ended up ordering the dinner for two special since It was restaurant week. The appetizer was the meatballs which was tender, great flavor, and the marinara sauce was delicious. It came with some kind of backed bread pieces which went perfect for soaking up the sauce. Our second dish was the pesto, although the dish was good, it could've used some more seasoning or pesto flavor, but the noodles was cooked perfect. The third dish was the spicy pizza, the crust was light and cooked perfect, I like the thin crust that comes with it, the spice was not overbearing it was perfect, sausage was very tasty, and the jam sauce was a good addition to the spice. Lastly, the canolie flight dessert was fantastic, plenty of flavor and filling. If you're looking for a cool place to get drinks, and good food, this place is a must. Plenty of outside and indoor seating. The service was also very outstanding.

Yelp
Incredible service, amazing food, and a charming ambiance! My partner and I decided to pop in on a whim, and it turned out to be such a delightful surprise. The host and servers were wonderfully attentive and, the interior had an unexpectedly upscale vibe that added to the experience. The best part was definitely the food. The baked pasta was such a fun and tasty dish, and the pesto pizza was everything it should be. Not to mention, a great happy hour selection. Overall, highly recommended!

Yelp
The service was exceptional, and the food was delicious. Thank you, Brandon, for your excellent service. I will definitely return regularly for the Golden Bear Pie and the Fiamma alcoholic beverage. Super nice restaurant to try out.

Yelp
I've had pizza in Italy, NY, LA, London + more and this pizza stands out as one of the BEST I've ever had. The respect given to the fresh ingredients is really wonderful and authentic. The sauce and the CRUST - wow. Owner Brandon was friendly and passionate about his work - he recommended the blueprint (their version of traditional Margarita) and holy smokes. The burrata and basil pesto really elevated it. We ate the whole thing even though we were full. Can't wait to go back! Oh and the tarimisu is laid over a bed of Nutella and fresh espresso is poured over it. P.S: Great ambiance, beautiful restaurant, massive window so everyone feels like they're enjoying the outdoors. Tucked into adorable Berkeley neighborhood. Do yourself a favor and try this place.

Yelp
Food was KILLER. Prices? Well, let's just say this was NOT a cheap meal. Short and sweet: this place has great pizza and accompanying pasta dishes, appetizers, etc. Went with a group and we ate across the menu. But with each pizza at or near $30 each - for what would be a small pie elsewhere in terms of size - just know that this is NOT your regular pizza haunt. This is for when you have a special occasion or want a dinner out with a loved one. Closer to fine dining than an actual pizza joint. Delicious? Absolutely. But I just was hoping to NOT have to drop $300 on a party of four. So, just saying - YEAH, the food was great, but not sure who is regularly going here and paying these prices. Great to support a black-owned business, and everything we had was high quality. Just thinking I could have spent much less cash elsewhere. That, or maybe next time we eat less (?). I don't know. You go and you can decide. Like I said, it's worth a visit. Just maybe go alone or with one other person to keep the cost down.

Yelp
My first time to Three. One Four Pizzeria was wonderful! My friend canceled our reservation due to the bad weather but a few of us rallied and ended up going after all. The manager was very flexible and allowed us to dine even though officially they didn't have availability. The manager gave us a time limit but we never felt rushed and was able to stay much longer than originally given. The service was excellent. I was excited that this restaurant is located in the old Lalime's restaurant. The 5:00 pm-6:30 pm Happy Hour is an amazing value at $5 for their craft cocktails and $7 for a glass of wine. We ordered a Bella, Fiamma, and Espresso Martini. All three were delicious and didn't disappoint! They looked beautiful too. Regularly priced at $16, these cocktails were a steal of a deal! For dinner, we ordered the Mixed Chicory salad, the Baked Pasta special of the day, and the A Little Spicy pizza. Everything tasted fresh and so delicious!!! We ate family style and shared everything. For dessert, we ordered the Tiramisu for dessert. It's their signature dessert and they prepare it at the table. It was fun to watch and was tasty but I prefer the more traditional Tiramisu. Still, I was glad we ordered it. Because the dinner was so fantastic, I made reservations for another special birthday celebration. Unfortunately on the afternoon of the dinner, I received a call from Brandon Wilson, the restaurant owner, letting me know that the restaurant had just closed due to unforeseen circumstances. I would have liked a longer notice as I had to scramble to find another restaurant. However, I know it was probably difficult for the restaurant to decide to close. I really hope that they will reopen in the near future! I feel bad for the restaurant because this is the season when people are out to celebrate and are looking for quality restaurants.

Yelp
Berkeley just got very lucky. Three One Four is the new kid on the block, and it's already slinging some of the best pies in town. I've eaten a lot of pizza in my life, and this place instantly stood out. The crust is perfect: crispy, chewy, and clearly made with care. Their Spicy Bee (hot soppressata + chili oil + honey) blew my mind. Sweet, salty, spicy -- it just works. Everything tastes super fresh, the vibe is chill, and you can tell the folks here really love what they're doing. No frills, no gimmicks -- just seriously good pizza. This place is officially in my top rotation. If you're into real, quality pie, go. You won't regret it.

Yelp
Simply one of the best dining experiences I've had. The food was really tasty, service prompt, and we have a new go-to recommendation for the neighborhood. We had pizza and cacio e pepe and both delicious. Highly highly recommend.

Yelp
Pizzas were solid, good flavors and the crust had a hint of sourdough. They did get a little messy because of the toppings and cheese falling off though. What I found humorous and strange was how they played rap/trap music, which did not align with the classy and lively vibe of the restaurant at all. Still a pretty new restaurant so they will definitely improve as time goes on

Yelp
I've eaten in the restaurant and also had some pies to go. Solid place. Great crust and fresh, tasty toppings. The salads are great. I particularly found joy from the little gems salad. The atmosphere is airy, light, and comforting. The staff is even better. It's so hard to make it in the restaurant business around here, so cheers for making a go at it, doing it right, and feeding me good food with a smile.

Yelp
Food...10 Service...10 Ambiance...10 Staff...12 This place is definitely one that should be on your Friday night radar. Brandon, owner, has been in service for 7 months. It's nice to see a black owned business thriving in Berkeley. We arrived at 5:00 and left at 9:30! A great place to be on a Friday night!

Yelp
Made reservations to have dinner. The service was up to par, the waitress was friendly, but it's unfortunate the food didn't live up to our expectations this time around, especially since we were really looking forward to the shh Oven baked spaghetti with the dough . The portion got smaller and the noodles were undercooked not enough sauce. We asked for side order of marinara sauce. It's quite disappointing when the place you enjoyed before doesn't quite hit the Mark on return visit. Will try it again in the near future hopefully next time they will bring back quality that made us come back in the first place.

Yelp
I love that this place is close to my hood. I love that the inside and outside have a beautiful buildout. I love 2 out of 3 dishes we ordered. I love the attentive behavior of the staff. I love that this place was nice but not pretentious. The cheeseless "A Little Spicy" pizza was the only thing I didn't love. It had nothing to do with the quality of the food they served; it was just not my cup of tea, or should I say slice of pizza. I would love to return and try the baked pasta dish. BB

Yelp
oh my! What an experience, ambiance wise the restaurant is gorgeous, the food is immaculate, and the service was top tier! Will definitely be coming back, I highly recommend the baked pasta.

Yelp
As Christopher walken would say, WOW! My darling and I stopped by for a lil lunch. I felt intimidated, because I am a weirdo, BUT! It is warm, beautiful and easy like a Coltrane tune. As you can see from attached pictures, our lunch, as well as my cocktail and affogato pick me up dessert made our day off perfect. We need to go back to try the pastas. For real! Thanks for reading! Ps, we did take pizza home, whatever the dough recipe is, The crust could be eaten alone.yum

Yelp
My family and I love this place. The owner is so welcoming and all the servers are super nice. The food is amazing my family and I ordered the pesto rigatoni, caesar salad and blueprint pizza. Also the espresso martini is really good!! The vibes are amazing, great music, great place for any occasion. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
My partner and I have been wanting to try this spot since we noticed it opened, and we finally made it and had a delicious experience! Very swanky ambiance as advertised, with comfy leather seats and cool light fixtures. We wanted to sit outside for Covid-conscious reasons but they had a couple of big groups coming in out there, so we ended up at an indoor seat right next to these big, open, glass doors so we were basically sitting outside. We started off with a couple of cocktails--I got the fiama which was absolutely delicious. It was fruity but not too sweet, and had a spicy rim that balanced it perfectly. I'm a sucker for super crushed ice so that made me happy, and the serving size was impressively generous. My partner got the Bella, which was similarly delicious and came with a big circle ice cube with a strawberry inside of it as a little extra treat! Our initial server was pretty to-the-point and didn't really ask us any questions about whether we'd been there, and said nothing about the menu. We ordered drinks from her and then we didn't see her for a long time--eventually someone checked in on us and we told them we were just waiting to order and she took our order and ended up as our person for the rest of the meal. I'm not sure if our original server was not intended as the person for our area or if something else was going on--we saw them later on serving a different part of the restaurant. The person who did end up with was really sweet and friendly! In terms of food, we started with the farro salad. I was expecting more of a salad-forward dish with some farro mixed in, but it was actually a hefty portion of farro with a sprinkle of arugula and tomatoes on top, and a hefty sprinkle of cheese. It was really chewy and flavorful, I really loved the pesto it was mixed with and I'm very inspired to make something similar at home! It was honestly way better than our pizza--not because our pizza was bad, but because the farro salad was so good! For pizza we felt really indecisive and needed up ordering the Westbrae without the speck because we were excited about the egg, arugula, and mushrooms but we are vegetarian. The crust was crispy around the edge and was super flavorful with that wood fire smokiness, and the center was kind of soggy because of the egg, which we kind of expected. It was really tasty but probably would have been better if we had the punch of flavor from the speck. We ended up being too full for dessert, but we will absolutely come back for it. There was a Nutella and ricotta calzone on the menu that sounded incredible. We also witnessed another table getting this amazing past dish that was not on the menu but basically they toss the pasta in a giant wheel of cheese and then use tongs to take it out and serve it. Next time we are 100% asking about that and ordering it. Overall, this was a super cute spot and a tasty experience!

Yelp
Solid pizza spot for a solid date night. The place is not without charm... or quirks. Really good food, but also in an area known for phenomenal food so it needs to be. Are there better choices nearby? Not for pizza, but the rest of the menu leaves to be desired. There are GF options, but I would avoid them for celiacs since flour is such a parge part of the menu. Even the salad gave my partner a bit of swelling. I will return, probably bring my son, but the long drive from south bay, highish price and plethora of other options nearby it probably won't be soon.

Yelp
I am amazed that so many customers have had such a wonderful experience at this restaurant. Unlike many reviewers, we were not warmly welcomed by anyone. We went to the host/ hostess station, asked to be seated outside and that was the last we saw of anyone connected to the restaurant. We sat for over 10 minutes and still no server or any staff came to our table (none were out on the patio at all). We had to go find someone and ask them to come out to our table so we could order. The wait time to receive our food was reasonable, although once we received our food and were dining, no one came out to check on us mid- meal. We were blown away at being charged $20 for what turned out to be an average Caesar salad. The romaine was brown and old. The supposed house-made croutons tasted like they came straight out of a box. The East Bay pizza was very tasty - its crust was excellent , although significant areas it were burned. Too, the pizza was described to be one way, but in actuality it was different. After we finished our meal, we waited and waited for a server to come out to our table. Again, after about 10 minutes, my husband had to go inside to ask for the check. We are accustomed to eating at nicer restaurants like Corso, A Cote, Chez Panisse etc. While this restaurant commands the same prices, the savoir-faire just ain't there. As I said, I am stymied as to how these other reviewers had such positive experiences at this restaurant.

Yelp
This place is a family fav, came here for my birthday last year. Celebrated my daughter's 21st birthday and the service was exceptional. Food was delicious. Salad, meatballs, pies but most of all the baked pasta was the best and enjoyed by all. We love the vibe of this restaurant and will be coming back for more. Thank you for helping us celebrate my daughter's 21st!

Yelp
So lucky to have this excellent restaurant right around the corner from our house! Came during happy hour, had delicious drinks (a $5 regular -sized cocktail, [loved the huge round ice cube with the strawberry in the middle] and a zippy Barbera) sitting outside in their back patio on a warm night. Had the best pizza I've eaten in a very long time here--perfectly crisp crust, no soggy middle, and a fresh mountain of arugula salad. We'd been here a few times, and the owner, Brandon, remembered us and made us feel welcome. He is very present and circulates among the tables, chatting with the guests and making everyone feel comfortable. Our server was also excellent. Wonderful place!!

Yelp
I've been to three one four a couple of times, once for dinner just after it opened and once for drinks and snacks. It's a beautiful spot and a lovely addition to the neighborhood since there aren't swanky wine bars in this area, particularly with a cozy seating area with a fireplace. When we had dinner, we ordered the meatballs, rucola salad and the Lalime pizza (lamb pizza). We were encouraged to order sauce on the side for the pizza crust, but it was unnecessary given that there was so much sauce with the meatballs. I didn't love the Lalime pizza - it was okay but the flavor combinations weren't to my liking. My second time back, I ordered the Golden Bear pizza which I liked a lot more. The "Sshh" menu is pasta which I haven't ordered but I've seen the amazing presentation at other tables. Next time!
