This review is another oldie but goodie from my trip to Austin back in Sept. I ended up at Thunderbird, which was recommended to me by the friend I was staying with, when I needed to kill some time while waiting for her to become available. It was a nice place to spend an hour or so due to the relatively quiet atmosphere and the interesting drinks.
During my visit to Thunderbird, I ordered a violet lemonade due to my love of all things purple, including lavender. The most unique characteristic of the drink is its vivid violet color (see photo). While I expected the drink to *taste* violet-y, I wasn't expecting it to *look* violet. If I was blind and wasn't able to see it's beautiful color, however, I'm sure I could have guessed it by the taste alone, which was lavender-y, but not overpoweringly so.
The barista who made my drink was friendly and happy to elaborate on its composition, which I appreciated. The atmosphere was quiet and serene, with a few small groups and various individuals working on laptops. One thing that was rather challenging was the parking situation--I had to drive all the way around the block to find the lot, which was full due to its small size. Because the business across the street doesn't allow Thunderbird's customers to park in their lot, I ended up parking on the residential street beside the cafe.
Overall, I had a good experience at Thunderbird and would definitely return for another violet lemonade--or other drink--when in Austin.
