"Across the street from Oregon State University, hidden under a blue awning, Tian Fu DIY Hotpot is a hidden gem that serves steaming bowls of rich, umami, mouth-numbing hot pot. Before rebranding as a hot pot restaurant, Tian Fu sold an assortment of popular Sichuan dishes; since the change, the restaurant has continued to hold its fan base making Sichuan-style hot pot, peppery and splashed with a generous helping of chile oil. The menu allows for customizable hotpot but also provides various combos for those new to the experience, such as the garlicky “Tian Fu Pot,” composed of a spicy broth, green onions, brown vinegar, various veggies, sweet potato noodles, and the diner’s choice of protein — which includes several preparations of tofu. Filled with a few tables and lined with cozy yellow walls, Tian Fu is open for takeout and limited onsite dining." - Mariah Botkin, Sukhjot Sal

Small Noodle place. Taste great. Limited seatings.

Google
This place is great. I already had high expectations with the amount of customers coming in even so late in the day, yet they had time to serve my group and another's despite on the verge of closing. The food is spectacular, and the place could fit only a handful of people, but they have seats available outside. Amazing place accompanied with amazing people and food.

Jay, the owner knows how much this restaurant means to me as a grad student at OSU. The soups were my soul food whenever I had a rough week, didn't feel well, and just needed comfort in a bowl. The flavors are authentic with incredible depth. People of many diverse nationalities come here, and you could tell the food resonates with them in some familiar way. The way each bowl was constructed was meant to be balanced flavor-wise, but also health-wise. Jay has always made connections with his customers and likes getting to know your favorite order. He is one of the kindest, wisest, and interesting people you'll ever meet, and the food that him and his wife make each day is something very special. They truly deserve the title of Yelp's 9th of top 100 chinese resturants in the US! I will miss this place dearly. I highly, highly recommend Tian Fu.

Google
Best restaurant in Corvallis!!! I have been here multiple times, and I just can’t stop eating it. Highly recommend the sesame soup base and extra sesame paste, it combines so well with the broth. The owners are friendly and nice. Good restaurants, delicious food, and nice owner. The only thing I wish to adjust is their portions. I always have to order two portions for each ingredient I ordered for DIY hotpot, otherwise I can’t get full.

Andrew Murphy

Google
This is the kind of place everybody should become acquainted with—it’s hard to find anything quite this special. Of course, the food is incredible. Really, really delicious and full of flavor. If I could, I would inhale the spicy broth every hour of the day. And then the owner is just the loveliest man. Super sweet and so passionate. I feel more at home eating a meal here than at my own dining table.

Google
Sometimes, hole in the wall restaurants serve some of the best food. This place is not an exception to that rule! The noodles and broth were delicious. As a Chinese person, the flavor reminds me of similar home-cooked meals from way back when (and stuff I prepare on occasion). The owner picked up that I was Chinese quickly and made sure I and everybody were well accommodated. The line to order extended out the door when I came by, but the wait is well worth your time.

Google
I WISH I TRIED IT SOONER! Every day on my way to campus, I see this little hole in the wall place that is bustling with people. It wasn't until recently that a friend of mine brought me here. The constant customers should have been a sign. It was excellent! The food was delicious and the service was great. While the sitting area is small, it adds to the experience, and if that is not your style, they also do takeout.

Google
The beef was good, lots of sliced beef in good tasty soup. But the seafood was hard to say, the fish tofu was just too much. Nice little place to try something new and spicy.

Tatum L.

Yelp
Tian Fu is hands down the best Asian food in the entire county. I've been coming here for over a year and have never been let down. Every single item is delicious and made with love. Jay is amazing and always provides quality service and is extremely knowledgeable about all the menu items!

Yelper E.

Yelp
4.25 stars. Tian Fu allows for almost unparalleled levels of customization with excellent bases. For that alone, it will be difficult to consider any other lunch option on trips to Corvallis. I had a great experience with the chef favorite which contains the spicy broth along with tahini. Lusciously soft chunks of tofu swim in the broth along with stalks of bok choy. I added beef to my order and it paired well with the veggies, broth and garlic. All of this could be had for less than fifteen dollars. As a couple of others have mentioned, the service is amazing and it's a bit hard to find this hole in the wall (kind of in the back of a mixed use center). But this is definitely worth the effort as the flavors are excellent. I'll most definitely return.

Ling C.

Yelp
We are in Corvallis for friend's wedding and so glad that we tried this gem restaurant! It is absurdly the most delicious and authentic hotpot I had since moved to the US. It's the flavor of home which I have been looking for years! The owner is so nice and kind!

Gene W.

Yelp
This place IS a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Besides the clapboard on the sidewalk, you would be hard pressed to find this eatery. But it is well worth the search to stop at Tian Fu given how tasty and affordable the food is here. Hot pot can be best described as Chinese-style chunky soup. There are about 10 choices of standard hotpot ranging from spicy to vegetarian to tofu lovers to seafood, etc. Prices range from $10 to $14 and for that $, you get a good portion of soup/stew chock full of veggies and/meat plus noodles or rice. My chef's fav was a mildly spicy concoction of tofu, noodles, tender beef & bok choy and flavorful broth that left me full. Later on, the chef/server/owner told us we can totally tailor our dish to different spice levels and add or subtract ingredients to our personal preferences (possible added $ for adding ingredients). Don't expect any ambiance as this place serves OSU college students who want a quick, affordable, yet authentic Chinese meal to eat in or to take back to their nearby domicile. Student housing basically surrounds the building that Tian Fu shares with a few other eateries. Street parking is 2 hours (and frequently policed) if you can't find a spot in their small lot. The chef/server/owner is super friendly; it felt like I was eating in his home. Tian Fu is truly a hidden gem.

Yelp
Tian Fu has changed a TON since I last came (at least four years ago at this point)! The menu is different and they now take card! At this point I'm not sure what surprises me more... The space is super tiny still so it is a bit of a squeeze and a little difficult to find seating. We were fortunate enough to snag a seat not long after we came in, but it's definitely a possibility that customers may end up sitting next to strangers or opting to take out instead. The food is quite different now - they now only serve variations of hot pot with add ons. The two pots we got were pretty similar in flavor and both quite oily. Seemed like the biggest difference was that one had vinegar in the soup base and the other did not. However, quality wise, it's fairly decent food at a relatively affordable price. The owners are nice and hot soup is always a good way to warm up in the winter cold!

Yelp
food: 4/5 service: 5/5 ambiance: 4/5 located at the end of block on monroe, tian fu is a cozy asian owned restaurant! the owners here speak mandarin and english, and are extremely kind. i believe it is family run establishment. i came in on a cold afternoon for some brunch- and i built my own bowl of noodles for $12.50: i put hotpot noodles, marinated beef, beef tripe, and bokchoy with the house broth. the food was warm and comforting and a generous portion for the price. however, i did think that the hotpot noodles were going to be the wide glass noodles and the beef would be like stewed beef brisket, and that the bokchoy would be give in full stalks, so i was disappointed (this is personal preference). they offer great bowls with already chosen toppings too! if i'm ever craving something warm and comforting to remind me of home, tian fu would be the spot i would go to.

G G.

Yelp
Delicious flavors, nice portions, great value! Had the tian fu noodles (sweet potato) and the chefs special (beef and tofu with tahini and rice). I don't normally get beef but made an exception--cooked perfectly (tender!). Both dishes fantastic and look forward to trying other options from the menu.

Clare S.

Yelp
Friendly and delicious!! And they really do aim to please We had many different diet restrictions/order preferences to begin with and the waiter returned to our table several times to ensure our satisfaction.

Emily M.

Yelp
The most delicious food I have ever tasted in my life. I love some good noodles, tried the udon noodle for the first time and they are my new favorite! Such flavorful broth and spicy goodness. I can't wait to go again, I'm glad I don't live close, otherwise I would be broke from giving them all of my money. Lol. The service is fantastic, really nice, good people.

Christina C.

Yelp
I thought I had already given this place a review but I guess not! Perfect place to go when I'm craving hot and spicy noodle soup medley. The owner is also very polite :) must try at least once if you live in Corvallis.

Evan S.

Yelp
Delicious. Delicious. Delicious. I loved the spicy sesame paste vegetarian broth. I've never had anything like it, and it blew me away.

Kelly K.

Yelp
The owner is super nice and the food is so so good. Have been here a few times and finally perfected my order. Lots of vegetarian/vegan options.

Chlo'e R.

Yelp
The food was fantastic. Excellent service. Tiny space. Will definitely return. The broth has incredible depth of flavor.

David G.

Yelp
Pulled into Corvallis in the rain. Read about this place on Yelp. Usually stop for Mexican on the road but this place called to me. Got a space in the lot. We had our dog so had to eat In the car. Couldn't figure out how to order online so just went in. The place is tiny, maybe 2 x 3 tops and an I seat community table. The options are overwhelming so ordered 2 veggie lover add udon, mild spice. The guy was super kind and said 10 minutes. Went back to the car for 10 minutes. Came back, waited a minute or two and got our food. It was chock full of veg and fungus. I thought they forgot the udon. I was very wrong. The spice was at the top so it was more than mild but great. It was the perfect rainy day food and would go back any time.

Phoi D.

Yelp
This is honestly my favorite place to eat in Corvallis. The owner is super sweet and nice! The broth isn't too over powering and it tastes so good, I will miss this place when I leave after college but I will definitely visit it again just because I love it so much.

Connor S.

Yelp
This place is a complete hidden gem. The food is incredible and the owner is always so nice and accommodating. The chefs special is my favorite, if you like peanut flavor, you'll love it.

Anna K.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I started going to this place a year ago and we have gone every month since. The owner is super nice and the food is well priced along with amazing. I usually get the Tian Fu Pot, but the broth is a little spicy for me. Due to this, the owner dilutes it with vegetable broth every time I order. The beef melts in my mouth and pairs well with the vegetables, flavorful broth, and delicious sweet potato noodles. My boyfriend gets the Noodle Pot with the sesame broth, and has had an amazing dish every single time; great noodles, copious amounts of protein, and such a great flavorful broth with the perfect amount of spiciness to it. Though the restaurant is quaint, it is very charming. Thank you to the amazing and friendly owner!

Kezia S.

Yelp
Got the Tian Fu Pot with chicken. This dish is very flavorful and not too spicy. It's pretty oily tho, but the chicken is so so good! it really doesn't taste like chicken and is so soft.

Sam O.

Yelp
Great Chinese hotpot place. The owner was very friendly, and patiently answered our questions about the food and culture. We try to go there every time we're in Corvallis. The space is a bit snug, so a large party may have trouble being seated, but the food is well worth giving it a try.

Michio N.

Yelp
Superb!!!  Tian Fu is a gem of a restaurant and a place we frequent almost every week.  They focus on chinese hotpot, which offers an amazingly delicious combination of broths, meats, noodles and vegetables that you can tailor to just about any palate.  Their sichuan spicy broth is definitely our favorite!  It combines this indescribable warmth in its spices and flavor with just enough heat to make it satisfying and addictive  :)   But if spicy isn't your thing, they have many other options including a wonderful, delicate vegetable broth that seems impossibly rich for something that is vegan. The DIY part of the hotpot comes in where you can combine one of these broths with all the vegetables, meats, and noodles your heart desires to make a meal that has everything you love in it.  Of course, to make things easy there are combinations already on their menu which can introduce you to all the wonderful possibilities.  Our current favorite is the Tofu Lovers, but we've also loved the Chef's Special, the Tian Fu Pot, and the Vegetable Lovers.  Honestly, I don't think you could go wrong with any of the combos and with Tian Fu in general.  The quality and flavor are exceptional and the reason why we always come back!

Cindy L.

Yelp
We saw great reviews and decided to give it a try. The owner told us they only have hot pot menu as his mother in law has retired. We ordered Tian Fu hot pot and tomato soup hot pot. Both are very good. Udon is the thick kind of udon. The spicy soup base has the unique spice that is similar to sichuan hot pot but not as spicy. The price is good. Overall we are happy with its our meal.

Hungry B.

Yelp
Authentic Chinese hot pot for one in Corvallis?!?! Looking for a noodle hot pot! Truly an amazing no nonsense hole in the wall of amazingness! Choose from spicy delicious broth (star anise, chili, etc.), tomato broth, or vegetable broth. Regular wheat noodles or clear sweet potato noodles. Choose and/or add Pork, beef, chicken, tofu, assorted vegetables and mushrooms. To go or dine in. Cash or card now.

Julia D.

Yelp
CASH ONLY! The Circle K around the block has an ATM. Aside from that, I really loved this place. The guy running it was super polite, friendly, and accommodating. The food is all super reasonably-priced and has the most fantastic flavors. Perfect, really. I've had this place bookmarked on Yelp for many months and was very happy that I finally got to try it. I am addicted to chili oil. Give it a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Lena R.

Yelp
Food is delicious, owners are wonderful and kind! I absolutely love this place~ the Tian Fu premade hotpot is my favorite, the spicy broth is soooo delicious.

Tom K.

Yelp
Good food, good service never had this before but was very happy with my 1st order and will defiantly go again.

Hamza M.

Yelp
to the fellow yelper reading this review in the future: remember that time in ratatouille when remy tries a strawberry and a nibble of cheese and unlocks a flavor combination like never before? ... that's exactly what my experience with tian fu has been like. i love the concept of the DIY hot pot and the fact that it's so, so nutritious! i typically get the mushroom broth with tofu (it's organic!) and black fungus, bok choy and winter melon along with some toppings like green onion and fresh garlic. the best part is that there are plenty of gluten free options - my go to is glass noodles. but, honestly, as rad as the food is, the human behind the scenes, jay, is one of the most down-to-earth people i know. so friendly and kind, and i've always appreciated the conversations we've had. what makes jay even more awesome is that jay remembers my preferences even down to utensils, and is always so kind as to give me a call that my order will be nearly ready (so time to go pick it up!) 11/10, one of my favorite things about corvallis that i'll sorely miss. definitely one of my fave restaurants of all time. you owe it to yourself to have a tian fu experience. p.s. i saw some reviews on payment methods accepted -- as of the time of this review, card is accepted too :-)

Joel S.

Yelp
I was in town for work and this was close to my hotel so I had to try it. I had the chicken pot. So delicious. Definitely eat here.

Siobhan M.

Yelp
The best hot pot noodles in town! We absolutely adore this place, only wish it had more predictably open hours!

Jessica T.

Yelp
So good! It's fresh, authentic, extremely flavorful and it makes you want to keep going back for more!! The service is friendly and they're very helpful with recommendations etc.

Todd T.

Yelp
Very good noodles. Spice level was great. I look forward to eating here again. Next time I might try creating my own.

Lois S.

Yelp
Best bowl of noodles I've had in a long time! The Chef's special with the tahini sauce mixed in was AMAZING. I asked for sweet potato (clear) noodles instead of rice, and it was perfect. Just pick out the peppercorn balls that will numb your mouth! My sis ordered the Tian Fu Noodle, which was yummy, but when she tried my broth she asked for a side of tahini sauce to drizzle in. The kids really liked the Noodle Pot, can't beat a bowl of chicken, bok choy, and udon. Wish we lived closer to Corvallis!

Nat G.

Yelp
If God was a noodle place, it would be Tian Fu. Everything is amazing, the ingredients are fresh, the prices are so reasonable for the quality of food. Flavor is top notch. Great for a lunch or dinner, or anything else. The spice level is more warming than anything, and it's doable for people with low tolerances like myself. The owner is very sweet too and remembers his customers. 5 STARS!

Alex H.

Yelp
Incredibly delicious food, with equally amazing service. The owner and his family are kind and helpful. This is such a great hidden gem. Don't miss it.

Meagan N.

Yelp
This place never disappoints. Definitely the best bang for your buck in regards to Asian food in Corvallis. I got the rice plate and I love the pickled veggies and broccoli. I like that the pork belly wasn't overly fatty. The noodles are always wonderful and flavorful. Only minus is that it is cash only. But for a small business with a wholesome owner, this place deserves 5 stars.

Helen W.

Yelp
This is a really small restaurant! There's nothing wrong with that, but if you want to eat at the restaurant then maybe go a little earlier than you usually would. I came at around 6 on a Tuesday and it wasn't busy at all so I was glad I could eat at the restaurant! The owner is super nice and let us know that the place is cash only in advance! Everything on the menu has good prices! We got the dan dan noodles and the pork noodle stew! I really love the kind of noodles they use in their dishes (my boyfriend said they're too dry but I didn't think so). Although the bowl of noodles looked small, it was really filling! It tasted like a dish my grandpa used to make for me. Both dishes were pretty spicy, but they tasted really good! I'll definitely be back for more :)

Alexis B.

Yelp
So so delicious!!! I ordered Tian Fu for takeout and everything was delicious and fresh. The soup had great flavor, my only complaint was that the broth was a bit oily.

Hasol Y.

Yelp
Although it's small, the friendliness of the owner and delicious food make Tian Fu worth visiting! We came in on a warm day so I decided to get the cold noodles with chicken, which was super refreshing and tasty. My boyfriend got the Dan Dan noodles which are pretty popular and just as good. There was a good level of spice and the serving size is great for the price. I think we were waiting less than 10 minutes before our food came out! The only downsides of Tian Fu would be its size and payment options. Because of its limited seating, there's also no customer bathroom. Remember to bring cash since they don't accept card (at least not yet!) While you shouldn't go expecting a lavish interior, you're sure to get delicious food and quality service, which I think are the most important parts of a good food experience.

Stephanie C.

Yelp
No frill, very simple restaurant that has a limited amount of items and seating. You order at the counter first before sitting. I ordered the dan dan noodles. I love the texture of the chewy noodles which absorbed the sauce nicely, you see a spoon full of fresh garlic on top and a hefty amount of ground meat. However I found the sauce to be on the salty side, I feel like I just ate 1/4 cup of soy sauce and oil.

Briana M.

Yelp
We love this place! The food is so good and the owners are extremely nice. We've been here 3x now and the food is consistently great. Look at their website for their current menu, they no longer serve anything but hotpot/soups.

Brandi C.

Yelp
This place is amazing. We live 1.5 hours away but I keep thinking about justifiable reasons to drive to Corvallis so I can have more of the sesame broth. Also, my toddler accidentally dropped a bowl that shattered EVERYWHERE when the proprietor was super busy with customers and he very kindly made sure our kiddo was okay and took the time to clean things up with good humor. Amazing food, kindness, and I would eat here every day if I lived closer.

Gunnar G.

Yelp
Chef's Special was a nice hot dish. On a cold day, this is a nice little place to get a warming meal. It is not large or trendy. Just good.

Elijah N.

Yelp
One of the tastiest places in Corvallis- hell, probably oregon. Amazing food, amazing service, amazing price. Please go and try it for yourself!

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
We were disappointed when we saw that Tian Fu Noodle was changing to DIY hot pot because we had loved their food so much, but we decided to give the hot pot a try. I am so glad they did shake things up because their new food is even better than before!! Their hot pots are completely customizable so that you can create them into whatever you want, but if you are new to hot pot they also have suggestions (I recommend this if it is your first time). Their food is just amazingly fresh and delicious with wonderful flavor. Just make sure to bring cash because they are cash only!

Carina K.

Yelp
Hands down the best hot pot in town! The broth is super flavorful and the perfect level of spicy. We normally love to order ramen, but Tian Fu noodle has become our house's go-to for cold, cozy nights. Their vegetarian options are just as delicious (if not better) than the meat options. Service is always fast, portions are big and fairly priced, and the owner is delightful. 100/10

Daniel M.

Yelp
This place is awesome, the food is amazing, Chen is super nice and has great service. It is a nice family started and ran restaurant, hole-in-the-wall and incredible. Best place for hot soup on a cold day.

M B.

Yelp
This is a wonderful place for vegans to eat! I confirmed with the owner in writing that all four broths (original, tomato, tahini, and vegetable) are vegan. The original and tahini broths contain a spice blend that says "may contain egg" on the label. I visited for the first time yesterday and enjoyed it so much that I'm bringing my whole family back today! I ordered the tahini broth with lotus root, black fungus, tofu nuggets, and udon noodles. The broth was spicy with incredible depth of flavor. The quantity was enough to feed two hungry people. All for $10.50 plus tip.

Jason B.

Yelp
Love everything about this place! The owner is so friendly and kind that I don't mind having to remember to bring cash with me. When you walk into a place and you are the only native English speaker, you KNOW you're in for a treat and in the right place! My favorite is the chili oil dumplings. Delicious and filling! Two could easily share!

Alberto L.

Yelp
The best restaurant near campus. Real Chinese food in a part of Oregon where it's normally Americanized beyond recognition. This place is a precious panda and we will keep going back as long as it exists. Try anything off the menu, and it's gonna be delicious. Cheers.

Chris C.

Yelp
This has become one of our favorites since we moved to Corvallis a year ago. Simple menu. Consistently great flavors, and service.

James S.

Yelp
The food was good, price is fair, the beef noodle definitely was on point. If you live in the area , definitely should swing by for a bowl
