"The chef honours Hangzhou traditions with precision and meticulous preparation. His unique creation Fairy Duck soup combines two Hangzhou classics, namely fish ball soup and braised duck with ham. From time to time, he also adds new items made with local ingredients to the menu to keep it fresh. The dining room features a white-grey palette and brushed brass accents. Ask the tea sommelier to pair tea with your food." - Michelin Inspector

"For Yang Kuang Tsung, who has been a chef at Tien Hsiang Lo for more than two decades, the preservation of the traditional flavours of Hangzhou cuisine is a mission he shoulders with pride. His signature dish of fish balls and duck soup is a deeply memorable dish that carries great cultural significance. His hard work paid off at the recent launch of the MICHELIN Guide Taipei 2018, when Tien Hsiang Lo received a Michelin star." - MICHELIN Guide Taipei Editorial Team

Found the place via the Michelin guide. It was easy to make a reservation online. We had to move it by one day and even with short notice it was not a problem. The food was excellent and had good spacing between the courses. Interesting flavors and well prepared. Service was efficient and explained every dish while serving it. We had 2 different set menus and for the standard of food and service price / value was good. We also got a hand written menu as a present that was done by a master while we were eating. I can strongly recommend the restaurant when looking for Hangzhou style food.

The place has been reputable for years since I was young, and God bless that I eventually can afford it now. My family and I had visited many Michelin-starred places but this is indeed one of a kind. Sooner after my online booking, I got an international phone call from the front desk confirming the pre-orders, and that was warmhearted. The hotel is bit outdated, but the vibe maintained. The restaurant was decent, quiet, and with sufficient distance between tables, which is pretty rare nowadays. A complementary appetizer set was given with chili sauce and marinated radish. Personally, the chili sauce is bit awkward in a Hangzhou-style cuisine, and it tastes just OK. An on-site calligrapher instantly wrote our orders as a souvenir, and that was in fact out of our expectation. Brilliant! All dishes were astonishingly good, especially for the Crab Tofu (大閘蟹粉豆腐) and the stewed sea cucumber (翡翠蔥靠刺參). It's a pity that the server didn't remind us that our noodle with hairy crab is identical to the tofu; otherwise we can have one more dish to try. Another awkward setting was about the sequence of our 東坡肉, which came the last dish when we were pretty full. I believe it would much better if it came earlier. All in all, the service, vibe, tea, and foods are all good.

We had quite a lovely dinner here and I can't thank the staff enough for making it a special experience visiting Taipei. Service was impeccable but not rigid that makes us uncomfortable. Instead, the staff was very friendly and gave us a lot of suggestions on the menu. Food was great. I love everything but the dessert was truly something to write home for me. Really hope I can visit them again to try other sets on their menu.

⭐ Michelin-Starred | Hangzhou Chinese Cuisine Tien Hsiang Lo is a revelation. Specializing in Hangzhou-style Chinese cuisine, this elegant restaurant delivers a dining experience that is both refined and welcoming—perfect for anyone open to trying something new. My partner and I were celebrating a personal milestone during our visit—**our 60th Michelin star** and **our 38th Michelin restaurant** together (yes, we keep a list!). Tien Hsiang Lo absolutely lived up to the occasion and then some. We weren’t familiar with this type of regional Chinese cuisine, so we were pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone—and we’re so glad we did. Every dish was not only delicious and thoughtfully prepared, but also **presented with incredible artistry**. The attention to detail in the plating elevated the entire meal—it was clear that just as much care went into how the food looked as how it tasted. Standout plates included the **stir-fried river shrimp with pearl peas** (light, flavorful, and the crunchiest pearl peas imaginable), the **water shield soup with fish ball** (elegant and delicate—the lightest fish ball I've ever tasted), the **yellow croaker fish with garlic** (packed with flavor and beautifully sauced), and the **scallops with spring gourd**, which was simply exceptional. Dessert continued to impress: a lovely **almond sweet soup with Bird’s Nest**, and a rich **adzuki bean creamy cake** that balanced sweet and savory notes beautifully. Beyond the food, the service was exceptional—gracious, attentive, and full of thoughtful touches. One of the most memorable moments was being presented with a **hand-written menu on a scroll**—a stunning and personal detail that added to the overall magic of the experience. The restaurant itself is **absolutely stunning**—a serene, stylish space with **pillowed seating that made it one of the most comfortable Michelin-starred restaurants we've ever been to**. Tien Hsiang Lo fully deserves its Michelin star and is highly recommended—whether you're a seasoned fine-dining enthusiast or just eager to explore something new and beautifully executed.

It's your typical杭州菜, out there dishes are finally crafted and it tastes good. You got to try their lion head. Their shrimp with snow pea it's also very good. Their smoke soft egg is very good. But don't try their 燒賣. Not very good.

1st visit in 2020 pre-Covid, revisit on 28/08/2024. Ordered the second cheapest dinner set menu. So delicious, absolutely the best of cuisine of its kind. Superb!

First visit, I ordered 3500 ntd set menu. I had a better dining experience for my first visit. The service was impeccable then probably because I went during the pandemic time, not so many customers. And the wine pairing was quite nice; the sommelier was very friendly and gave us good portion of the wine. Really love it! (The latter photos from 9 to the last was the 3500 menu ) Second visit - for the set menu price, it's 2200 and plus service fee. I probably would not consider visiting again. The seats were mostly full so the service was not that well compared to my first visit. (the first 8 photos was the 2200 menu)

Tien Hsiang Lo, a Michelin-starred restaurant located in the bustling city of Taipei, offers an exquisite dining experience that seamlessly combines Western fine dining aesthetics with a touch of Chinese culture. We had the pleasure of securing a reservation for two today and it was an enjoyment. To begin, we were offered a shot of vinegar-based drink, which provided a refreshing start to our meal. Our first dish was a combination of four delectable items, but the smoked egg truly stole the show. The delicate smoky flavor and sweet egg yolk perfectly complemented each other, creating a harmonious blend of flavors that left a lasting impression on our palates. Next, we indulged in the crab meat with tofu, enhanced by a touch of vinegar. The vinegar brought out the natural sweetness of the crab meat, resulting in a delicious dish that was a true feast for the senses. We also savored the Abalone, lamb meat, and pork in "Don Po" style, all of which were excellent and beautifully presented. Overall, our experience at Tien Hsiang Lo was satisfying. The exceptional service, crisp white tablecloths, and excellent explanations of each dish added to the overall experience. While a few dishes fell short, the majority were an absolute delight, and we look forward to returning to Tien Hsiang Lo soon.
