Tiki Bar Tiki Iniki Open in Virginia-Highland, Atlanta - Eater Atlanta

"Tiki Iniki will finally open tonight, according to Facebook, in Virginia-Highland at the stroke of 4:20 p.m. — an exact time that likely needs no explanation. The Polynesian-meets-Southern restaurant and tiki bar is located on Greenwood Avenue and owned by Brett Holtzclaw and Bill Chapman of Atlanta’s Supper Club Restaurant Group. The partners announced they would be opening a franchise version of the original Tiki Iniki, owned by Michele Rundgren and rock guitarist Todd Rundgren in Kauai, Hawaii, in June. The Rundgrens are not involved with the Virginia-Highland location. The tiki bar was supposed to open in July but hit a snag when an injunction was filed against Tiki Iniki’s liquor license by the owner of neighboring Dark Horse Tavern on North Highland and brought before the area’s Neighborhood Planning Unit (NPU-F) for a vote in August. However, the dispute was really over a 1995 City of Atlanta parking variance and providing sufficient parking on and near the Greenwood Avenue property, which shares a lot with Dark Horse Tavern and blues bar Blind Willie’s. That all seems to be resolved, and Tiki Iniki is now taking reservations for dinner. While the menu hasn’t been released, tiki enthusiasts can expect to find a more twisted version of the iconic Trader Vic’s inside. Mai tais, painkillers, and zombies are all on the drinks menu, along with original tiki concoctions by Holtzclaw. Food will include meat skewers, roasted pork and duck entrees, family-style dishes, and poke bowls. Brunch will begin in a few weeks. Holtzclaw is the executive chef and Gregory Bradley (formerly of Char) serves as chef de cuisine at Tiki Iniki. Eater Atlanta has reached out for the menu and more details." - Beth McKibben

Drinks are exactly what you get from a classic tiki bar. Highly recommend the place for the drinks and ambiance. The interior is also very tiki themed too. Our server, Richie, was very courteous to share what each drink contained when asked. Live music in the patio is a nice touch. Mai Tai Tiki Classic / The Iniki / The Hanalei Sling were ordered.

The fish and chips were good, and the Shrimp Rangoon was very good (especially the sauces). The waitstaff member (Michael) was great. He was attentive, friendly, and efficient. It was a little different than it was on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, but it was worth a stop.

Google
Awful. Worst meal we have ever had. They were understaffed which seems to happen at a lot of restaurants on the island. Usually I’m pretty safe ordering a ceasar salad with chicken but I literally couldn’t eat it. The chicken was so dry. My daughter ordered the pulled pork and she said it seemed like a frozen dinner warmed up. Fish and chips were eatable but not good. Please don’t waste your money or time. You’ll be disappointed.

Google
We stopped in for a quick bite while driving through the area. Fun atmosphere - restaurant seems popular and was pretty busy for lunch. There were no tables available and we opted to sit in the bar area. We had the Sweet Sticky Ribs and the Iniki Burger. We thought the food was excellent, but the service was a bit slow. The manager was great - but the bar tender was very inattentive.

Google
Gets really busy, had to wait for 20+ min. But the wait was worth it. Really cute decor. Food was amazing, loved the ribs. Mai tai and pina colada also we tried. The crowd is really nice

Google
We didn't like much of this place. Starting from the guy at the entry, who acted kind of weird because we wanted to sit at the bar and even if there were free seats, he didn't really want us to. The atmosphere is not the one you could expect in a tiki bar as the barman was not talkative at all. The cocktails were not cold. Probably because they were not shaken and the mugs not frozen. The classic mai tai personally tasted strange. The decoration was nice tough.

Google
I went there two weeks ago.... Was a bit bummed because the cocktail we were anticipating was not on their menu. The bartender was so so... The drink came out very bitter ... It was supposed to be this beautiful Maitai in an equally beautiful glass .. the glass was beautiful but the drink took away its thunder😟

Google
We went for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. We sat at the bar and had wonderful cocktails and service. We chatted with locals and some who were visiting. The food was delicious, plentiful and honored the local traditions.

Yelp
My husband and I love tiki bars and tiki drinks so we had to visit Tiki Iniki! It's very cute with classic tiki 1950s vibes. They have a short but solid happy hour. Drinks are still spensy but it's worth going! We tried the Kauai punch, which is basically POG with rum, the classic "Trader Vic's" recipe Mai Tai and the Tiki Colada. My favorite was the colada. Not everyone agrees Mai's tais should have pineapple juice but I think it needed some. The host was friendly and our server was nice!

Yelp
WAY overpriced for what you receive! Tourist trap beware!! POOR quality food AND the poor quality service was the cherry on top. The wait is ridiculous. The drinks are watered down atrocities and the food is offensively bad. 30 dollars for a burger and fries that taste like cafeteria food at best, is a SCAM. The wait staff is slow and all looked like drug addicts that hate their job. The bartender with the bowtie was the worse of them all, sorry we inconvenienced you with our patronage. If you like to be purposefully ignored, and treated like a nuisance for requests of service THAT YOU ARE PAYING A RIDICULOUS amount for, and enjoy consuming food and drinks you wouldn't even have the heart to feed to a pig slop....look no further, this is your place. An embarrassing establishment.

Yelp
We had to stop by this restaurant due to all the raving reviews. I am so glad we came! Nestled in the princeville shopping area, this place was a must! Excellent service, delicious food, drinks, and atmosphere! The bartender and server were so welcoming and provided excellent recommendations. Cute little island cats and chickens added to the ambiance.

Yelp
I didn't enjoy the fish and chips. The French fries were good, but the fish was thick and the seasoning was meh. No lemon with the fish. We had fried zucchini. A piece the size of a 1/4 zucchini deep fried very crunchy. The garlic dip (aioli) with the zucchini. Is good, very garlicky. Mai tais in a tiki cup. Very cute. Outside deck does not face water as the business is in a shopping center. Great waiters

Yelp
Tiki Iniki was an interesting place. Cute Hawaiian tiki decor, Beatles music playing in the background, all tucked away in a little shopping plaza. We stopped in not only because we were ready for lunch, but also to find a place to watch the basketball Finals and Tiki Iniki had a television tuned to the game. Our server took our orders and checked on us often to make sure we didn't need anything. He explained to us that it was Happy Hour so we could only order off of the limited menu, which was fine. The food and drinks were just so-so, not great, not terrible. The cocktails we ordered were fun and had a cute theme, but were mostly ice. I wouldn't mind stopping here again, but not necessarily for the food, but more of a hangout place to watch sports or listen to some music.

Yelp
Yummy drinks - go for happy hour to save some $$$. Cute place!! Nice bartender and creative drinks!

Yelp
Michael was an awesome waiter. He recommended what type of fish we should get and the different ways we can have our fish. I ordered the ribs with rice and you definitely need the rice to balance out the sweetness of the ribs. We also ordered the velvet gorilla drink and it was alright. The spam musubi had a crispy outside (fried) but it's not what I thought it would be. Although my party liked it. The prices were a little expensive ($40 for ribs) ($32 for the drink) ($7 for small salad) ($30-40 ahi burger) so it adds up quick if you have a big party

Dixie C.

Yelp
Fun and funky place. Great happy hour drinks! Very quirky hosts that were very entertaining!

Yelp
Excellent service, unique atmosphere, great drinks, tasty food! The place fills up rapidly so get in early. Definitely a highlight of the trip.

Yelp
Our favorite "Go To" restaurant to entertain and catch up with our mainland guests! the servers were so very gracious and the dinners amazing! so were the beverages!

Yelp
Great place for a cocktail. Food is very basic. Fun Mai Tais and get an app. Menu is very small and the fish and chips were good. Very kid friendly.

Yelp
I visited the place just coz this was one of the very few places closing late, lively and the tiki glasses. It was our first day in the island, so didn't really know what tiki meant. Visiting and reading about it during our wait we understood that it represents the human carved figure, which was all around us. They had many big and small tikis decorating the place. The drinks came in the tiki glasses which was the main factor of attraction. The drinks were tasty, not too strong. Food was good too. The fresh catch of the day with a Thai curry and quinoa was a great blend. The Shrimp Rangoons were different from what I tasted before, so loved it too. A great experience overall.

Yelp
This is the 1st place we ate in Kauai. It's a nice tiki bar in a town center. The ribs fell off the bone just as described. The spam masubi was delicious and the drinks were refreshing. Our server was great. She gave excellent suggestions. She was super nice and attentive. We were seated outside; it was a good night for it weather wise. There was a singer in the courtyard while we enjoyed our dinner, which made it more lively. The environment was very chill. We entered through the bar, which had some seating. Up the stairs to the right was the out door patio where we spent our lovely dinner.

Yelp
Ambience is pretty cute. The fish and chips are basic. Service is good. There is even a small group singing and doing aloha dancing. Cool.

Yelp
Just go! Dynamite tiki drinks and boy, the food was incredible. Pork sandwich was the best one I've ever had! Great ambiance, decor and the service was so personal. Great music too!

Yelp
We really enjoyed our happy hour here at TikiIniki. Friendly bartenders and tasty drinks. Cheers!

R Scott S.

Yelp
This is an amazing place. You feel like you are part of Hawaiiana. The staff are all awesome: Jay the bartender makes a perfect drink, Richard greets you courteously and professionally an with a smile on his face and who can't forget "Muggsy!" Muggsy has a very accommodating personality. I love the atmosphere and ambiance. You will too!
google avatar

Anola S.

Yelp
Expensive but worth it. Service was great too. Ordered the zombie but in 5 shots and they were happy to accommodate although it of course wasn't on the menu. Started with the artichoke dip and Twisted Spam Musubi. Spam musubi was awesome! Didn't try the artichoke dip but everyone else at the table loved it. For an entree I got the Sweet sticky ribs (bomb!) not too saucy which I like. Sides were rice and veggies but there were literally like 2 veggies on my plate:/ ribs were Cooked very well. My friend got the Pulled Pork sliders which were awesome too! A little sweet so could have used some spice or salt, but overall would recommend. For drinks we got the Navy Grog, Zombie, Penicillin, The Iniki, and the Tiki Colada. Zombie was by far the fave Can't go wrong with Tiki vibe ambience. Cute atmosphere.

Yelp
Why do i have to give any stars? The bartenders at the main are awful. Specifically the man with the bow tie. I was ignored multiple times. I inquired about the survivor cup (the cup was 55 dollars) and the man with stupid bow tie walked away mid conversation will I was inquiring about. I wanted to order another drink for my girlfriend and was ignored by both bartenders, despite making EYE contact with the man with the bow tie. I was fed up trying multiple times trying to get another drink from them. I got the attention of one of the servers to close out my tab, she handed it to the man with the bow tie and he promptly closed my tap. I will NEVER come back to this establishment. My girlfriend and I go to a bunch of tiki bars, this was by far the worst service I've received, not just for any tiki bar but for service anywhere. They should be embarrassed. Save your money and DON'T GO TO THIS ONE.

Fawad M.

Yelp
The food was very mediocre, Service slow & spotty even though our waiter was nice.Ambiance was kitschy. Fish and chips were tasteless and fish was overly deep fried & over done. The drinks were the low point of the evening, almost un drinkable and we expected more for a meal for 4 that costed almost $300! We won't be returning or recommending this place to anyone.

Yelp
We went here a few months ago for dinner and it was delicious. The little restaurant was so cute, and the drinks came in these cute little tiki guys. Our waitress was very nice and she was very helpful and attentive. Can't wait to come back when I go to Kauai again!

Christine W.

Yelp
Cute little spot. We had a good time and our waiters were very helpful with a good sense of humor. Drinks were great. Food wasn't what I expected-but still a good vibe.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a Tuesday night and there wasn't a wait for a table which was a good thing because we were starving. After being seated and taking some time to look over the menu, the first thing that popped out were the prices. They weren't crazy expensive, but considering it wasn't a nice and fancy restaurant, I was surprised at the cost of some items. We decided to order a cocktail and burger to share. The yellow bird cocktail was strong, but really good, and for $17 it was a good drink and came in a cute bird cup. The iniki burger was $25 and cooked well, and came with hot crispy fries. We were able to share it and be satisfied. When we had placed the order for the burger, I had asked the waitress if jalapeños could be added. The waitress had responded that the burger came with pickled jalapeños, but that if I wanted they could change it to fresh jalapeños. I was a little confused because when I read the list of items that were included in the burger I didn't see pickled jalapeños listed anywhere. So I just agreed to have it changed to the fresh jalapeños. Once we received our food, since the top bun wasn't on top of the burger, I immediately noticed there were no jalapeños, so we ignored it since the waitress wasn't around and started eating. A couple minutes later, another guy came and brought a very tiny bowl of sautéed jalapeños and said "Sorry about that" and walked away. I was a little upset since the whole point of asking for them was so that they could be on the burger when brought out to our table, and she had said it would be fresh jalapeños, as in not cooked. So again we ignored it and just kept eating. When we got the bill, the drink and burger were listed, but there was also a $4 up charge for sautéed jalapeños. The same sautéed jalapeños that weren't supposed to be sautéed to begin with, and also didn't arrive on or with our burger... Overall, the burger and fries and cocktail were good, but I didn't like that the waitress didn't bother to mention the up charge for the jalapeños or the fact that they would be sautéed and not fresh as she had said when we placed our order. We won't be coming back here, since we're only visiting for vacation so just look out when eating here.

Yelp
We visit this spot every trip to the island. Very friendly staff and cute tiki vibes inside. It's in somewhat of a strip mall/grocery shopping center so the location is convenient but there isn't necessarily a view. The drinks are delicious, classic tiki drinks. They have lots of allergy options and even have gluten free fish and chips! I have nothing to compare the fish and chips to so I thought it was amazing, and my husband said they tasted just like "regular" (aka with gluten) fish and chips and also thoroughly enjoyed the dish. Would definitely recommend this place overall!
google avatar

Chenna P.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, cocktails, and caring staff. However, the food was a little bland and our $135 bill for two people wasn't quite justified for the price.
google avatar

Gage G.

Yelp
We were seated by Ricky (thank you Ricky!) he said he was a manager and "a few other positions" but he was happy to seat us and be our server for the evening! We started off with a couple drinks and an appetizer then ordered our entrées. The drinks are tasty but full of ice. Not sure they were worth $19 each (but I got the Flamin' Volcano and he lit it on fire when it came out - pretty cool! Plus it was essentially all rum with a spritz of passionfruit juice). Our food was good but I also don't think it was worth the price.. I ordered the Tiki Inka Burger and my wife ordered the GF fish and chips (her first EVER fish & chips). She was so excited but again, not worth what they cost. All in all: strong drinks, delicious food, a bit pricey for a "$$" rating on Yelp.. not a bad place to come with friends or family - they had plenty of seating in the bar and dining room areas, and the atmosphere was 1000% tiki if that's what you are looking for Would ideally rate as 3.5 but am feeling generous so I'm rounding up.
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Tried to slide into the bar for a quick drink but instead was met with a rude bartender who scolded asked if we checked in with the host. When we told him there was no one at the door told us that's why they have a sign. Then made other rude comments So we left not a good start to my birthday trip and my first time on Kauai. I had this place on my list to try but guess not
google avatar

Noemi C.

Yelp
The location was nice within the shops. Gives it a really relaxing vibe. The server was always checking up to see how we are doing. She was amazing. The food was good too. My partner got the ribs which I tried and fell off the bones smoothly which was really good. He loved it. The drinks were nice as well. Thank you for a nice lunch experience.

Yelp
Food was ok the environment was cool. The service was slow but the waiter was nice and friendly .

Yelp
Amazing drinks and food for a late night date! Service was excellent. Will definitely come back!

Yelp
This is a cool spot for fish and chips with some really good cocktails, they're super fast in service and make sure you're happy. The ambiance is pretty chill and a beach side vibe. Must visit place near princeville.
google avatar

Jeff M.

Yelp
Hidden gem in Princeville! My wife and I are big tiki people and this place didn't disappoint! Drinks were legit tiki recipes and the ambiance was perfect. The skippers were super friendly and the food was good too. They also have nice mugs and shirts for sale!
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
Super fun ambiance. Great food at locally reasonable prices. The staff was friendly and accomodating. Don't miss out on their artichoke dip; I've never had better anywhere!
google avatar

Jack D.

Yelp
The worst restaurant experience I've ever had in 43 years. Waited in line for twenty minutes. Some Seats opened up at the bar and my party walked in. The bartender stated you can't come in unless you're invited in ( we were next in line) they proceeded to seat a party of 12 with no reservation. Overall the staff were very rude and disrespectful. The bartender was a complete asshole. Have fun if you do decide to try this restaurant
google avatar

Abby E.

Yelp
Our server was very friendly but the food was not up to par. I got the fish and chips and my husband got a fish special. He thought his fish was a little dry, my fish had been overfried and was terribly overcooked and under seasoned. We got a mai tai and one other drink and they came in fun glasses and were good. However things were so expensive. For our food and drinks, including the poke pupu it was close to $200 after tip! And the fish was barely edible. I could see going back for drinks, but I don't know if we'd be back for a meal at these prices.
google avatar

Karah L.

Yelp
Untimely service. Salad fair quality. The burger eater disliked the patty because the spam flavor was nonexistent. Maybe it was an ordering issue

Chris E.

Yelp
Very dissatisfied by the waiter who was forward, rude, and unprofessional bombed out of his brain or had a medical condition Told us time was ticking as we were our choosing cocktails.... Ordered starters they were very gud had a fork which we put on plate to be cleared away, very rude just told us to wipe it clean you don't need clean fork ..then main dish arrived fish and chips fish was burnt asked for fresh and argued with us...eventually we got two more plates BUT still burnt so didn't eat it When paying he proceeded to be confrontational to my aunt who eventually told him to go away !!!!! NOT A GREAT EXPERIENCE travelled coming all the way from England to see our aunty !!!!!!

Sean S.

Yelp
Two stars for service. The people are very nice. Food was awful. Burgers came out burnt. Bread on the pulled pork sliders, which was more like a full sandwich was burned. We left most of the food on the plate. But again the people working there were nice.

Erin P.

Yelp
Service was excellent, but I'm sorry the food was not very good! I had Cesar salad was bland and my husband had rib which were not very good and it's way overpriced!
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
It took about a minute and almost a dozen bottles of liquor, but my Navy Grog was complete. Served in a tiki head glass accompanied with a blood orange and lime my medicine had been served. Tucked away behind Foodland this should be a stop during your time in Kauai. And yes, it was a strong drink....
google avatar

Valarie B.

Yelp
Fun drink menu. Loved the yellow bird--fun cup with lots of fruity garnish. Even the sodas came in a fun glass. Wish i could have brought the bird glass home-- i am my mother's child, after all. The burgers were tasty. The special burger of the day--bacon. Guacamole, onion rings, cheese, and garnish was a huge messy delight. The teri buger was great, the grilled pineapple was cooked just right. It's definitely a four napkin affair. The fries were cooked to perfection. Our server was upbeat and funny. We were the first to arrive and had the pick of seats. Lots of funky tki themed art to keep you entertained. Firsr place I've ever paid more than $25 for lunch burger (almost $100 for lunch for two). Guess that is the pricetag for restaurants owned by legendary rock stars. It's definitely a place to go at least once while in Kauai.
google avatar

Gary G.

Yelp
Great stop for lunch on the north shore of Kauai. Fish and chips was great. A bit hidden but worth it.
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
We always have the best time here! Really tasty, strong cocktails with a variety of options, the staff goes above and beyond, and between the playlist on the speakers or live musicians in the common area outside, there's great music setting the vibe. We recommend getting a reservation, as the wait list can get long. Also, with a small staff there's usually a slight wait after checking in so they can set a table and make sure the wait staff and kitchen don't get overwhelmed. It's worth the wait and a must visit when you're in Kauai for any fans of rum cocktails, tiki, and good times!
google avatar

Deb V.

Yelp
I was looking for an authentic local spot with the ambiance representing Northern Kauai. I found it. We walked in and the tiki vibe was strong. Locals drinking at happy hour, tiki art, colorful lights everywhere. The service was friendly immediately. The hostess seated us right away. The menu was simple and easy. Plenty of options for kids and adults. The drink menu was colorful and fun. As you can see, my man ordered flaming zombie and it was so cool. Our waitress Leila was charming, kind and helpful. My man and I ordered fresh fish dishes, he ordered fried Ono and Mahi Mahi curry for me. Both fresh and delicious. Food came out quickly. We were extremely happy with service and food. Also the vibe was great . Come here for the tiki experience!!
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Amazing Shrimp Rangoons. Also enjoyed the delightful Iniki burger with a bit of island spam. Tiki Iniki is all about enjoying the island and you can't be in a rush. Just order a Mai Tai and forget all your worries or cares. You might get lucky enough to run into the owner Michele Gray Rundgren. She is amazing and enjoys her costumers. Also recommend buying one of their Tili Iniki T shirts. Also beware that the place has authentic decor extending from set set of the movie pirates of the Caribbean to the Coco Palms resort, currently under renovation. If Elvis was alive today, he definitely would be hanging out at Tiki Iniki and enjoying their exotic drinks. Mahalo. Ps. Love it so much going back again tonight ;)
google avatar

Misha F.

Yelp
This was a fun experience for the family and food-wise a great choice. The service was excellent and we loved the tiki vibes.
google avatar

Dan R.

Yelp
For the price it seems like the food should be so much better than it is. Definitely middle of the road as far as flavor. Chicken salad was dry and not tossed in dressing as it said on the menu. The inikia burger was supposed to have spam which those chunks were few and far between: There are so many great places to eat in Kauai that coming here is not necessary. Will have to say our server was a wonderful young lady who took great care of our party . Wish the food was a good as the service
google avatar

Simon D.

Yelp
Service was slow and even accused a member of our group of lying. The impossible burger didn't taste like any other impossible burger I've ever had, and not in a good way. My sprite was flat. The decor was nice though.
