13 Irresistible Hotels in Northern California

"The Sixties-era Timber Cove Resort, built of native redwood and stone, was originally conceived as a meditation lodge. After thorough renovations in 2016, it’s more rustic-chic than strictly rustic — in-room amenities include modern record players, yoga mats, and organic bath products — but it’s still as peaceful as ever, situated on a quiet stretch of the Sonoma Coast, high on a bluff over the Pacific." - Mark Fedeli

The 7 Most Romantic Getaways in California

"A cliffside location, unobstructed views of the Pacific, roaring fireplaces, and moody, wood-beam details—every element of Sonoma's Timber Cove Resort seemingly adds up to a surefire recipe for a romantic weekend away. It's self-described as "one part hippie chic and two parts rustic modern", which draws a decidedly NorCal mix of couples who want to pair their downtime, whether that be wine tasting on the oceanfront deck or afternoons cozying up by the fire, with active time outside. Activities on offer include everything from private guided hikes through the redwoods (there are more than two miles of hiking trails on property), or going kayaking on the Pacific below. The location is also a perfect base for exploring Sonoma Country's wineries, and local oyster farms like Hog Island Oyster Co. (which are anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour away, depending on what you go.) Get there: It's roughly a three-hour drive north from San Francisco. Splurge on: To dial up the romance factor to a ten, spring for the Ocean View Jr. Suite and choose the Romance Package add-on for just $50 more per night, which includes a sparkling bottle of wine in your room, and breakfast for two. (You can pretend the bottle waiting in the room was your idea—we won't tell.) This suite, the second-largest room, has a 180-degree view of the Pacific, and an in-room fireplace, redwood patio, and, unlike the larger suite, the added perk of a soaking tub." - Megan Spurrell

Timber Cove Resort (Napa / Sonoma Valleys, California) 38 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Cutting back on screen time and returning to the simple pleasures of long walks, good conversations, reading actual books — it’s a worthy goal, but it’s easier said than done. Sometimes you need a little help to unplug. Enter Timber Cove Resort, situated on a quiet stretch of the Sonoma Coast, high on a bluff over the Pacific. It’s not that they have some sort of strict leave-your-iPhone-by-the-door policy. It’s just that the resort is slightly removed from civilization, outside of cell phone range — even the wi-fi is a little spotty up here." - Tablet Hotels

We had a wonderful time during our stay at Timber Cove! The drive was a bit "exciting" for someone who lives in an urban, inland area, but truly Timber Cove was well worth it! There are loads of games, indoor and outdoor, two fire pits, and exploring the grounds was a great way to spend the morning. We also enjoyed the music on Wednesday evening, and wished we'd arrived earlier for the wine tasting on Tuesday. The staff was friendly, professional, and helpful. The food was delicious, with a good choice of full and lighter meals. The rooms were clean, comfortable, quiet, and it was lovely to listen to the ocean waves throughout the night.

I booked this resort pretty last minute after our original mini-moon stay was affected by the Big Sur Road closures. I was excited, after looking at all the photos on the website, to stay in the resort and enjoy a “cozy” stay. Immediately upon entering the lobby, we were greeted with the loud noise from some construction that was going on in the main dining room or as they call it, the “great” room. The check-in staff was very friendly, however we were disappointed when we realized the forest view room was actually steps away from this restaurant construction, in what seemed to me more like a motel set up than anything else. For $350+ a night, this felt a little unacceptable, as we could hear the construction from our tiny room. We ended up paying to upgrade to a room that was outside the “great” room, so we didn’t have to deal with the noise. They very obviously try to upsell you on this, and under another circumstance (not “just married”) I would’ve totally argued about the construction, asked for a refund and gone somewhere else. There’s amazing small properties up and down the coast for a fraction of Tinber Cove’a rates. ||This upgrade made our stay totally over expensive and not worth it. To top it off (and this is obviously not the resorts fault but) May gray is in full swing in this region of California, so the views were non-existent and the weather was cold and foggy. The restaurants on site were incredibly overpriced, my husband and I ended up not finishing our $130+ dinner because the dishes were just not good or fresh. We ended up spending the second day at Sea Ranch up the coast, which had much better food for a similar cost.|Overall, I would not recommend this hotel. It feels very outdated, there is not much to do during the day when the weather is bad, and it is incredibly overpriced for what you get. The only thing that was good was the staff.

This was one of our stops traveling down the Oregon Coast to California. It was the final leg of the trip. The front desk was friendly at check-in. Our room was easy to get to and had spectacular views, After we checked into our room, we poured a glass of wine and strolled the property. We had 7pm reservations at the Coastal Kitchen. My wife and I had a Caesar salad and the trout. Both were excellent. After dinner we relaxed in the lodge and enjoyed the big fireplace.

This was my second time staying at the Timber Cove Resort with my wife and our two small dachshunds. Everyone at the hotel makes us feel welcome. The hotel grounds and location are breathtaking. I understand some may be hesitant to stay here due to the property's remote location, but trust me when I say the hotel has it all: great food/drinks, plenty of walking/hiking activities, a wonderful bar and lounge with fireplace and TV, and board games and vinyl records to rent (each room has a record player). As an added plus, Timber Cove is incredibly dog friendly-- not just in name only-- and dogs are more than welcome in the lounge area/bar while owners are getting a bite to eat and relaxing. We will be coming back again and again. Plenty of parking for EV cars. Bodega Bay is ~45 drive south if you want to day trip during your stay.

My wife and I have been going there since our honeymoon night 45 years ago and we return regularly. We always stay in one of their “ocean suites”. They have private balconies with awesome 180 degree ocean views. The rooms themselves are nothing really special but fine and comfortable. The restaurant is very good but with a limited menu that runs out of supplies occasionally because the place is so far out of the way deliveries are few. And you can’t really go out anywhere to eat if you want to drink any alcohol because Highway 1 in any direction can be treacherous. But this year, the room price was beyond absurd!—-over $800 per night with a ridiculous $35 per day “resort fee”

This is such a fun place to stay! The views are breathtaking. There are fun activities all around the property. The fireplace in the large great room felt inviting. We enjoyed listening to the live music, playing games and drinking wine in the great room after a long day out on the beach. We will def vacation here again!

Beautiful location above the ocean and in close driving range of magical state parks in the redwoods with wild orchids and rhododendrons blooming in late spring. The upstairs rooms over the ocean have decks and you can hear the ocean and watch the raptors soaring as they hunt each morning. The trails along the grounds have hidden sand dunes over the sea, chairs to lounge in, and magnificent cove and sea views.

Google
Timber Cove is an absolutely magical place. From the moment we stepped on property, we felt instantly at home. The grounds, the staff, and the rooms carry such an incredibly welcoming and comfortable feeling. Regardless of the fantastic views, and delicious food, what really made our trip was a woman named Desiree who works at Coast Kitchen. Her level of care, kindness, and attention to detail made us feel like family. We’ll be back, if just to visit our new friend Desiree!

Yelp
We just returned from our daughter's wedding weekend in Jenner and stayed at Timber Cove (along with many friends). The management, rooms, restaurant and views were spectacular. The GM, Angel, was friendly, professional and attentive to our every need. I highly recommend staying here and enjoying natures glory!

Yelp
My husband booked Timber Cove Resort for my birthday weekend and it was so nice! I loved the cozy rooms complete with blackout curtains, a record player, and plenty of space. We stayed in the ocean cove rooms and the view was gorgeous. I only wish the weather was better so we could have enjoyed the deck! The resort gave me a birthday card which was nice, but too bad it didn't include some wine like other photos i've seen! I loved the fresh cookies that came out at 4pm and the complimentary champagne on Saturday evenings. The room was nice but one thing that bothered us was that our mechanical skylight shade and the remote was not working... So once the sun rose, the light filtered in right on top of my husband's face, lol. Besides that, our stay was great! Loved the gym onsite and the fact that they have trails around the property to hike. Their onsite restaurant, Coast Kitchen, is also great for breakfast and brunch. It's a super relaxing resort and i'd recommend!

Yelp
We just wrapped up one night here and had great time. The location is phenomenal. There are all of these cool trails that you can take to the water. Also, there is a rocky/boulder area with an art piece that was fun. The staff were incredibly friendly. The food was incredible. I think I may have had the best fish that I've ever had. The negatives: Lots of dogs. That's cool, except you can hear some them yapping in the rooms while their owners were away. Also, do we really need dogs in the restaurant? I'm paying $50 for a small piece of fish,l and it would be great not to have someone's dog staring at me while waiting for food to fall. The server was super nice, but forgot a few things. The room was comfortable but not super clean. It smelled musty, and the floors were extremely worn. The overall vibe was casual and relaxed, and the room was at the high end of what I wanted to pay for what I received. The food was delicious, but a little pricey for the atmosphere. I'd return, but only if the rooms were a little less pricey.

Yelp
Timber Cove is the perfect staycation! My husband took me here for my birthday earlier this year and it was such a great weekend. The rooms are so cozy and make you feel like you are at a super high end resort with the record player in the room, the fire place and the beds in the middle with amazing views. It was raining when we went so we stayed on property the entire time and never got bored. The food and drinks were always so great. The only reason I'm giving this 4/5 stars is because sometimes the service was a little hit or miss but all in all a great weekend and would definitely go back!!

Yelp
What a lovely experience, wonderful hospitality, and the sheer beauty of nature! Oh, and happy birthday, Bobby...what a lovely way to celebrate!

Yelp
Timber Cove, you were everything we imagined you'd be. Nestled along the breathtaking coastline, this hotel offers an unparalleled retreat. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the mesmerizing views of the ocean. The room was nothing short of exquisite, with every detail thoughtfully crafted to ensure comfort and relaxation. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay memorable, always greeting us with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. The property grounds are a lush oasis, providing the perfect backdrop for leisurely strolls and peaceful moments of reflection. Our time here was nothing short of magical, and we cannot wait to return to this coastal gem.

Yelp
This place is beautiful! We only ate at the resturant (did not stay at resort) but the service was incredibly friendly and fun! The food was amazing! I hope they are proud of this place because they should be proud! It was wonderful! They also have plenty amazing vegetarian options. And they are very non judgmental about it and the options are easy to find. They section the menu by meat "land", seafood "sea", and vegetarian "garden". The drinks were so great as well. Just a lovely place with kind caring staff. Love it oh and they have an AMAZING SPOT to watch the sunset!!!

Yelp
Cozy place with nice view and grounds. We rate it at 3.5 stars for lunch. Quality did not meet the price. Regardless, one of the better places in that neighborhood along the coast.

Yelp
We went over a stormy rainy long weekend and it was a perfect balance of nature meets nuture. The rooms are comfy and uncluttered, with a great view and Bluetooth record player. The beds were wonderful and perfect for us. Loved the pet friendly and welcoming environment. The resturant manages to really shine with strong flavors just done well. Don't skip out on the chicken dinner or the burger. They might just surprise you and remind you how good these classics can be. The perfect place to recharge and get away for folks of all ages. Just wish the fireplace in our room was angled better for ambiance (it faced the desk instead of the bed) and our room really needed a small sofa or comfy chair to curl up in. The leather chair was a classic but not something to curl up with a good book in.

Yelp
While traveling the northern part of Highway 1 we were very much looking forward to our night at Timber Cove. The resort had a very cozy feeling, with thoughtful details such as board games and vinyls for your room. Nothing beats being able to fall asleep to the breeze and sound of the cove outside your room. Would have given five stars except parts of the experience left a bit to be desired. Parts of the resort felt less refined - they definitely hit the mark on the aesthetic but not always on the quality. Because of that it did feel a bit overpriced but it was a beautiful location and wonderful experience. I would definitely go back if I have the opportunity!

Yelp
Wow, this resort is beautiful!! My partner and I stayed here for two nights while driving up the coast and it was the highlight of our trip. The grounds are gorgeous, there isn't a bad view in sight. The staff was friendly and welcoming. They upgraded our room as a surprise just because they had the availability too. Seriously so kind!! The rooms are gorgeous and so worth what we paid.

Yelp
Way way overpriced for the rooms, drinks and food. Nice Fireplace though. Lots of staff turnover

Yelp
A perfect very removed location for resetting energy. Waking up to ocean views that don't disappoint. Room #8 feels like a cabin, love it. Wining and dining in style fits perfectly

Yelp
Well just getting there is a site to behold . You travel through the Bodega coastal highway. It one of the most beautiful places I. Sonoma county . The lodge is right on the ocean were you look straight out onto it and you can see for miles up and down the very beautiful beachs as the waves crash onto the shore . The largest beautiful has plenty to offer and great for romantic evening or stay with your lover. All I can say you'll feel like you're making love right on the ocean. Food's great and the lodge is well maintained And you can walk around the shore line.

Yelp
My husband and I recently stayed here for a few days for our babymoon and we are so glad we did!! The hospitality here was so great! Wanted to give a special shout out to Molly who made our stay so worth it. Upon arriving, we noticed our room was with a loud kid next door which would make any stay- particularly our last trip before having a baby ourselves, make it difficult to relax and get some shut eye. Molly was sooo understanding and empathetic- she expressed she wanted us to have the perfect little getaway and ended up moving us to a beautiful room far away and with a better view! It was all that we could ask for: peaceful, clean, relaxing and beautiful. Other than Molly, the bartender was also super nice and friendly. Drinks were on point! We were also surprised at how delicious the food at the Coastal Kitchen was. We really enjoyed our dinner with the beautiful view. Our server was a bit uptight, and seemed a little offended when we didn't take her recommendation but she was still fairly nice. We also really enjoyed the singing and dancing in the main area - I think it was a Wednesday night. It was really cozy, the singer was so talented, and the guests were not shy to dance the night away! Not gonna lie, we were pretty nervous based on the mixed Yelp reviews but so glad we took a chance cus we had an awesome experience here! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this place to friends and family.

Yelp
Very nice resort for a weekend getaway! The ambience was amazing and it is sea facing as well Expensive for a sandwich though.

Yelp
Oh my goodness, best time ever! Beautiful facilities, wonderful staff, great food! I can't say enough good things about my experience. All service was impeccable!! Thanks for a lovely stay!

Yelp
Went last year and had a few drinks and the trout chowder. I still remember the chowder to this day. It was DELICIOUS. The space is gorgeous. So gorgeous I've put the spot on my possible wedding venue list. If I'm in the area I will DEFINITELY return. I'd love to stay a light as well. STUNNING views of the CA coast right from your windows

Yelp
I was pretty shocked to see that Timber Cove's Yelp rating wasn't a solid 4 or 5 stars! I've been here three times with my husband and have absolutely adored the stays. Here's my quick 'n dirty before I rave: -Dog friendly! -Brilliant, expansive views -Clean, modern, cozy -Fun trails around the property -Incredible parks and trails nearby (Salt Point Park is a MUST) -It's UNIQUE! Timber Cove offers more entertainment than just drinking and dining. Don't get me wrong, I'll happily chat and snack at the fire pits, but there's an added comfort from a property that expertly utilizes its space. There's pingpong, foosball and pool tables, record players in every room, board games and records in the lobby, trails and seating areas peppered throughout, and the "Peace Obelisk" - a sculpture situated in the second smallest state park in California. What's most magical? Regardless of sun, rain, or fog, the ambiance here fits the day's vibe. Cool, refreshing, breezy in hot weather; warm, cozy, intimate in cold. In preparation for an upcoming week off of work, I started exploring areas a few hours away from the Peninsula. After spending hours on Google Maps narrowing down the destination then exploring hotels/Airbnbs, I finally made the final decision to book this. As soon as we pulled in I knew this would check all the boxes. Usually I'm in a rush to the front desk so we can get settled. Who would've guessed we actually PAUSED, in the parking lot no less, to breathe in the air and views. I'm in LOVE with the landscaping and lobby (the bar looks so vibrant at night). Our first stay was a Cove Room and WOW, what an incredible water view! The hallway that led us there was nothing short of enchanting. Beautiful stone stairs are nestled throughout, flanked by luscious greenery. The balcony was larger than expected, which gave my dog plenty of space to trot around. Get ready to absorb the soothing drum of waves hitting the cliffs. The second stay was an Ocean View Room since we were celebrating our first wedding anniversary. This, by no surprise, was also luxurious. There are two levels of ocean view rooms, and I specifically requested the second floor to ensure we had a fully enclosed patio. The staff - who have always been professional and friendly - answered my email promptly and perfectly executed that request. Our Forest View room overlooked the deck and fire pits on the Cove side, with the trees across the street in the background. The ceiling in this room was high, angled, and sported a skylight that let in sooo much natural light. Quick notes on finances: Yes, there are cheaper options along the coast, but I didn't want outdated TVs/beds/decor/amenities. I've never had a billing issue here, and we've even been lucky enough to extend our stays by a night without billing confusion. They do send invoices; mine usually go to spam but I've found them from a "xinfo@timbercoveresort.com" (fwiw I also have printed receipts, it's a habit to ask). Every room greeted us with wine (champagne for the wedding anniversary, which was a nice touch), spotless surfaces and cool details (the coat/shelving setup is great, beautiful walk-in showers, cute kettle/tea/steeped coffee). The fireplaces in the Cove/Ocean rooms absolutely served as a cherry on top. If you've made it this far, you can tell I have a crush on Timber Cove.

Heidi L.

Yelp
Most amazing views and grounds, nice people. Incredibly overpriced, bare bones rooms (we had an ocean view room), no comfortable chairs, no amenities, no explanation how to turn on fireplace, turn off annoying light next to bed which turned on every time anyone turned in bed, very few dinner choices, all overpriced, no vegetarian choices. The only free items were pastries and coffee from 6-8AM. Sure, there are always those who are early risers, but some might just want to sleep in while on vacation, a very expensive vacation. Staff friendly but not interested in feedback. We won't return. The view and the walks along the ocean can be had for free and there are cheaper hotels around whose rooms are no less "fancy". A shame.

bonnie e.

Yelp
We enjoyed our stay at the Timber Cove. It's a cozy resort with a darkened interior and fireplace going. It actually feels like a lodge rather than a resort. The grounds are really stunning with many trails on the coastline and an amazing Bufano obelisk. It's rugged, rocky terrain so wear good hiking shoes. We were there in the Spring and the super bloom was in full swing. See pics. It's foggy and the wind can really blow so wear warmer clothing. We had dinner there two nights; the service was good and the food was fine; although, the menu was limited. We were pleased we didn't spend the high price on the ocean view room b/c there was so much fog you couldn't see the ocean for long anyway. On the down side, the coffee wasn't very good and the towels scratchy. They had a wine tasting the first night we were there which was really fun. On the second night, they had a folk singer for entertainment. Overall, it was a good two night getaway.

Scott S.

Yelp
The outside is magnificent and a lovely setting to sit by the ocean and take in the views. The restaurant staff seem a bit unwelcoming and take awhile to notice and greet you. No real distinction of visitor versus hotel customer which is nice. When my partner ordered the cauliflower steak neither of us knew what to expect and were very disappointed. The waitress was not sympathetic and didn't offer a solution. The menu description for this entree needs more verbal and improved written explanation. If you're expecting any meat, don't order this. After this experience and the high cost of eating out in general, we won't be returning especially after this experience where the waitress was frankly snooty and uncaring to make things right. No tip was left. The furniture in the lodge bar area is too low and uncomfortable.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
The room is too small and old. The lobby is loud which is an added inconvenience as the rooms do not have chairs to rest. because of room size. The restaurant menu is limited and expensive.
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
First off, let me applaud the staff here. From those in the kitchen to the servers to those that clean the rooms.. I've been coming here for over 10 years and the service here is impeccable based on what you have to work with. So thank you. This review has no reflection on you. Now, Mr. GM. Yeah you. The guy who has the audacity to say things like "I shouldn't be making cocktails I'm the GM" to a super busy bartender holding it down and asking for a little assistance. The guy who told us on 4th of July weekend that their fish order was delayed by one day so no fish entrees nor oysters were available, only to tell us the exact same story the next day like he didn't say it previously. Yeah you Mr. GM who dresses like he's aging backwards. How about fixing your WiFi so that guests aren't accessing crappy internet on an unsecured server? How about showing your staff some respect because they're the ones who hold it down and frankly, this place has had better more personable GMs in the past. Do better.
google avatar

Marissa V.

Yelp
I stayed here for my minimoon and was overall super pleased with the experience. When we first drove up, I was super underwhelmed with the property; given the word "resort" in the name, it just didn't match my expectations. And for the price, I expected a hot tub/pool or more communal amenities. Service was very hit and miss; we had some very rude servers but also some incredible folks who went above and beyond to make our stay special. The Coast Kitchen has a limited menu but the food was pretty good and we loved being able to run down and grab dessert and a drink every night. We tried a few other spots in the surrounding area and agreed that Coast Kitchen had the best food. The rooms were very cozy and gorgeous--the record players, pour over coffee, and fire places were a nice touch. Definitely recommend the ocean view upgrade if you plan to spend a lot of time in your room. Overall it was a nice quiet getaway for a few days of rest. Note that the closest restaurant is ~45 mins away by car. There's not a ton to do in the area (aside from outdoor activities of course!), so expect to just enjoy your downtime while here.

Yelp
Had an amazing stay here for my birthday. A bottle of champagne and personal note greeted us upon checking in. The resort offers a quiet, private, luxurious experience. The resort hugs the coast and has incredible views. The walking trails were just steps from our room. I loved the cozy touches of our room - old school fireplace and record player. There is a full restaurant on site but we opted for room service. It is also very dog friendly. Great romantic getaway for couples.

Chanli S.

Yelp
Amazing resort for a weekend getaway. Beautiful views. Highly recommend. Mountain lodge feel. Super dog friendly. Vinyl record collection. Lots of board games. Huge fire place in the great room.

Yelp
Love the place would definitely come back. One of my favorite on the coast. The staff was super friendly. The place is so chill and in every way.

Yelp
Absolutely Amazing!!!! We love everything about this place! The rooms and the entire hotel, the vibe, all of the wonderful staff, the food, the bar, the views, and the gorgeous natural beauty! Highly recommend! We will be back without hesitation

Yelp
I don't appreciate a hotel that does not represent its rooms well. We booked a room with "swiping views at the ocean" only to get a room that looks at a wall. Do not go.

Yelp
The best resort for pets is a dog-friendly place, and the staff is great and helpful. Very cozy place to relax and have private time.

Yelp
3 star hotel pretending to be 5 star and way over charging for what you get. Food is also not good, breakfast was terrible.

Yelp
Had dinner in their restaurant. The experience was not good at all. Also way to casual for the prices they charge. Food was not good.

Yelp
Just spent the better part of a weekend here and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a secluded, luxurious, yet unpretentious respite in nature. While it is a bit pricy, Timber Cove is far more affordable than similar properties within a comparable radius of SF, and it offers the warm, laidback, rustic charm that makes this region so special. The coastal setting is unbeatable, the rooms are modern, cozy, and well appointed, the staff are all very friendly, and the vibe is perfect... Record players in each room with a wide range of records available in the lodge... board games... fireplaces and fire pits throughout... trails to hike... unimaginable views. When we initially checked into our room we realized it didn't match the description of the room we had booked. The staff quickly realized the mistake in our reservation and went above and beyond to take good care of us. Mistakes happen, especially in an industry re-emerging post pandemic... The effort made by the team here (specifically Arielle, Molly, and Vincent) to correct their error speaks volumes to the character of this establishment. I highly recommend an ocean facing suite for a truly special experience. And while the food is good, it's not noteworthy, so grab some fresh seafood on your way up the coast (in Tomales or Bodega bay).

Yelp
I came here for lunch and my server, Grace, and the rest of the staff were wonderful!

Yelp
What a special place! A gem on the coast with great views, meandering paths, native plants, access to hikes and Fort Ross, and good food. Everyone who works here is so kind. It's DOG FRIENDLY!! during our most recent visit, the dog to human ratio was like 1:1 I wish their menu had more vegan and vegetarian options, and changed seasonally. Get a room with an ocean view (and bathtub) on the second floor, if you can!!

We stayed here to celebrate a special occasion and we really enjoyed our stay! We stayed in an ocean view room and loved hearing the sound of waves and the ocean views were breathtaking. We also love that this place is pet friendly. We were lucky enough to see a couple whales from our balcony, which was an added bonus. The room had a deck with chairs to sit on outside and take in the views. The property has benches and chairs along the trails if you want to stop and take in the views and a fire pit. They surprised us with sparking wine to celebrate our anniversary, which was a really nice surprise! We felt cozy with the fire going in our room. This is a great place to relax and unwind. There is also so much beauty on the coast. The staff were friendly and helpful and we had such a great experience! It's technically in Jenner, although closer to Fort Ross. There is a lot of great hiking spots nearby and if you are looking for other food options outside the restaurant, it's best to head north to Stewart Point since they have a store/restaurant there that provides good breakfast and lunch. I would also recommend dressing in layers and bringing items such as a jacket, beanie, etc. because it can get windy and a little chilly when walking around the property. Also, bring cash for tips! The sunsets are amazing and worth seeing during your stay!

Yelp
After dropping my daughter off at a nearby camp for the week I checked in at Timber Cove Resort to book a room instead driving the 3 hours home. The front desk person was very friendly and accommodating. I opted for the ocean view room, which in the height of summer (I stayed 8/8/2021) is pricey for sure. I asked for a discount and was obliged. It's still expensive with a discount. The room itself is basic and functional with a clean design aesthetic. A complimentary bottle of wine came with the room. A record player and three albums are in the room, a cute but impractical detail. The person in the room above me played an album last evening while I was trying to read. I found it intrusive. At first I also found the other guests intrusive. I booked the room with the perception that the resort catered to folks looking for peace and quiet. After leaving the lobby and heading to my room I encountered an obnoxious guest who was acting a bit like a prima dona. When I got to room and went out on the deck facing the ocean I was immediately greeted by the sounds of the guests in Room 26 having a rather loud drunken disagreement on their deck. Rather than listen to them swearing at each other, I opted to close the door. Later when I checked, their argument was over but they had two other couples hanging out talking by the deck. One of the couples and the guests each had a large dog. The dogs were constantly going at each other. Thankfully I heard the drunken neighbors and their friends loudly declare they would be heading to the bar. Once they left peace and tranquility ruled. The view from the ocean view rooms/decks is stunning. A perfect sunset view. After 30 minutes the guests in the room above me came out on their deck and quiet a loud conversation. I decided to take a walk and explore. The grounds are what make this place amazing. As I explored I found there are so many places to find a spot for peace and quiet and to actually have the sense of feeling alone while at a large hotel with people and dogs. Never very far from the actual hotel I explored the area with amazing views of the ocean, cliffs and surrounding area. I beckoned to the call of some sea lions and watched the sunning themselves on a large rock in the ocean while up to 30 others bobbed their heads in the water. It was incredible. I sat there for over an hour, literally within a hundred feet or so of the hotel, completely alone and watched the sea lions and birds. Back at the room, I ordered room service - the woman taking my order was super friendly and helpful. Food arrived quickly and was delicious. I ordered a New York Strip Steak and a glass of wine. The cook was cooked to perfection, melted in my mouth and the sauce was sublime. The vegetable and starch accompaniments were well seasoned and complimented the steak. Seriously, I don't think I've had such a good meal ever via room service. It was DELICIOUS. As for the cleanliness of the rooms. They seem clean although I do have agree with another reviewer that there are some smells that can be off putting. To me the bedding smelled not so fresh. It smelled like a musty musky persons stuffy apartment. Overall, in my opinion it is a pricey place to stay but worth it. Changing my expectations and realizing that I had to accept that quiet and solitude was not going to be my experience one hundred percent of the time. Going out to find solitude when there are a lot of other guests around is easy to do on this property. One more funny thing. When I was checking in, I overhead the person in front of me checking in. She was traveling with two emotional support animals and therefore wanted the charge or deposits for the animals waived. The front desk attendant was so kind to her as I rolled my eyes. I later saw her with her friend and the two dogs. They were very unruly dogs - one fairly aggressive and lunging at other dogs coming by. So come for the solitude and peace, the good service and the great food and know that it is easy to escape the more clueless or obnoxious guests.

Yelp
My husband and I had a flat tire and the spare was damaged. We were going to have to wait hours for a tow truck to come and tow our car on the winding Hwy 1 to Santa Rosa to get it repaired. There was a kind maintenance man that searched hard for an air compressor and found something that got the job done. We were able to drive all the way back to Santa Rosa safely (since it was a slow leak) saving us hours and we were able to make it to our next reservation in another city on time. Our room was gorgeous & very clean. We also reenjoyed dinner & breakfast at the restaurant.

Yelp
This place smells. Yes, literally the rooms smell like to many bodies have stayed in this room and it has not been properly cleaned. At first I thought it was just my room but after sniffing a few of them while they were being "CLEANED" I realized they all smell. Maybe it's the dirty pull out couch or the scratched chair? I'm not sure but this place is not what the web site photos show. Yes, the view is spectacular from some of the rooms but beware you will need to sleep with your sliding door open and hope you can stand the stench. They get two stars for the view if you are willing to pay top dollars for such a dump.

Yelp
We took a last minute trip to Timber Cove. We ended up with room number 52. The room had an AWESOME view and the soothing sounds of waves crashing onto the shore. The room was nicely appointed with a working record player, a skylight, and a cute fireplace. We could not have asked for a better room. The staff from the front desk to the cleaning staff were all friendly and accommodating. We ate at the restaurant, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you Megan for getting us in ahead of our reservation time and Harry for making us feel special.

Yelp
Definitely enjoyed our stay there. I booked this as a surprise for my bf birthday and he loved it! We wished we booked one more day bc the first day we arrived, the fog was a bummer. Cozy atmosphere and friendly staffs.

Yelp
Beautiful location. Great place to walk around the property and great views. There are state parks up north to hike that are beautiful.

Yelp
Was in the area exploring Fort Ross and decided to stop by Timber Cove Resort for lunch. Seated outside sipping on a chilled Arnold Palmer overlooking the vast Pacific ocean. Discussed vegan options with staff and the chef created the smoked squash pappardelle and the asparagus mushroom risotto using seasonal ingredients. Blown away (as in not sure why these aren't on the regular menu). The risotto was good but the pappardelle was on another level. Best I've had. Beyond the food, staff was respectful and accommodating to my dietary restriction. After the meal, walk the grounds and check out the A-frame structure of the Lodge (designed by Frank Lloyd Wright-devotee Richard Clements, Jr.), The Expanding Universe obelisk by B. Bufano, and the many winding paths with its stunning views of the ocean.

Yelp
Positive: + Nice views + Charming common areas + Good food Negatives: - "Forrest" rooms are really facing the parking lot and a loud patio. - Our room had ANTS INFESTATION(!!!). Ants were climbing all over the walls. - Rooms are tiny and generally of a low quality Avoid at all cost.

Yelp
Stayed on a drive by. View was nice. Food was great (stayed in September) but the room was not that great. Pillows were literally like bowling balls. Toilet paper holder was falling off the wall. Shower could be a disaster because water goes all over the floor no matter how hard you try to keep it in. Couches were a little tough to sit in. Trying to be a throw back but kind of missed the mark. I guess you stay for the views and if so they are nice and food was great. Mussels were amazing!!

Yelp
We really had a great time! Wishing we stayed a little longer but we'll definitely come back. My husband found this gem online; we tried booking but they were fully booked I visited the site the next day and lucky enough we were able to score an ocean view room, prices are a bit on the expensive side especially if you want the best room, the view and the space. Check in is at 4pm drive up there took us about 3 hrs plus stops; TIP: it's a very winding road/drive make sure your pup/dog is okay with that; ours isn't so he threw up a couple of times but nonetheless when we got there he enjoyed the huge place to run around and play. Tip: Pet is an additional 100$ up to 2 dogs (but they will provide bed and dog food bowl. The hospitality of the team is awesome they are very welcoming to our puppy and it really is a nice concept to welcome pets to stay. The room is amazing we stayed at the ocean suite and is very spacious. Full fridge sink 6 seater dining area; a record player; snacks and coffee drip set-up but nothing beats the view and our private balcony, Bed is so soft (too soft for me but the hubs loved it) and a hug shower; wish we had a tub but it's okay. We both enjoyed the room service breakfast that we ate out in the patio overlooking the nice view it was sunny when we arrived the first day then foggy the next morning; we weren't bothered by the cold because there is a fireplace in the room and a nest set-up that you can adjust the temp. we had dinner down stairs and tried their valentines day 3 course dinner Tip: dining out the patio make sure you are not seated on the side close to the walls it's very windy and cold even with the heater it's still breezy cold and uncomfortable. There are hiking trails and a lot of spot to chill and enjoy the view. The staff are so nice they even welcome us with a bottle of red wine, they have nice smelling organic toiletries and very eco-friendly. They also have EV charging station for guests that have electric cars. this is truly a great escape and a paradise for couples, families with kids and fur babies, We are already planning our wedding anniversary stay in a few months I hope our experience next time would be the same of expecting it to be even better and even up to this point I'm still in awe of how relaxing and beautiful the place is. TIP: *bring your toothbrush and toothpaste * bring cash for tip * bring your own record vinyl you like ( they have a lot of choices too) * bring your dog food and supplies * jackets plus plus it gets really cold if it's not the summer I hope you'll enjoy your stay here as much as we did!!

Yelp
What a happy accident. We were driving up Highway 1 in search of fries and we stumbled upon this place. The food at the restaurant was amazing. And don't forget a Bloody Mary. The staff friendly, the vibe hipster guccci granola. Just a wonderful place to enjoy a yummy meal.

Yelp
The review is for their booking/checking in system which charges you twice even if you prepaid in advance. When they take your card at the checking 'for accidentals' their system automatically charges the full room price plus accidental fee despite the fact ghat you already prepaid. Note, that they will tell you that only accidental will be charged. Then upon checking out, that's where you will pay for extras and they will tell you that those extra charge will be removed within two weeks. It's just a hassle, annoying and I've never had that anywhere in the world. I

Yelp
A big shout-out to Vincent and Molly for making our first-time stay truly memorable! We originally booked a forest view room. Upon arrival, I inquired about ocean view room availability. Vincent and Molly made it happen! The panorama from our comfortable and spacious ocean view room was spectacular! The food in Country Kitchen was gourmet-level delicious! We met new friends around the fire pit (get two drinks from the bar, you'll want to sit awhile!). All in all, a great experience! We'll be back!
