Annapolis Nets One of D.C.’s Best Pizza Places  - Eater DC

"Timber Pizza Co., Petworth’s critically acclaimed place for crispy, 'Neapolitan-ish' pies since 2016, breaks into the Maryland market this summer. The menu will largely mirror the one in D.C., featuring specialty 12-inch pies with unique ingredients, wood-fired empanadas, and seasonal salads. The Annapolis location will have a small dining room with a copper-topped bar and reclaimed wood furniture." - Tierney Plumb

Yelp
The worst thing they could've did was take brisket empanadas off the menu. Everything was very tasty and the service was really good.

Yelp
Top notch Pizza, probably the best in DC with Stellina being a very very close second. Great atmosphere filled with great people working there. Although it was a very small place it had a super comfortable vibe to it. Sat at the bar and enjoyed a couple cocktails that were absolutely amazing. It's definitely a beer focused place but the cocktails did not disappoint. Pizza came out quick, and 100% cooked to perfection. Highly recommended, just a solid place cooking up some amazing pizza. Go for the pizza, stay for the atmosphere and service!!!

Yelp
Pizza lovers - look no further, Timber Pizza is IT. On Petworth's Upshur Street is Timber Pizza, a Michelin Guide DC featured Neopolitan-style pizza joint. Start with the slow roasted pork empanadas and red sauce fav, the Bentley. The amalgamation of sweet and savory flavors with a high quality cheese and particularly memorable crust creates a unique flavor profile. With this experience in mind, I'm excited to try other menu items including the Cheese Please (simple choice, yes, but I imagine it will be awesome), the Penelope, and the Darryl salad. I must also mention the friendly staff, open kitchen concept, quick service, and expansive drink menu. Timber Pizza offers many draft beers, wine on tap, and craft drinks for your meal. Run, don't walk, to Timber Pizza for your next casual dinner.

Yelp
I'm not kidding when I say this is the BEST pizza I've ever had. I'm not a fan of super loaded/ greasy pizza where you the toppings are falling all over the place and the second you're done with a slice you're left with the feeling of being full and greasy. I don't know how they do it but Timber's pizza is so satisfying and fluffy without leaving you with that greasy feeling! I love how the crust is incredible fluffy but still crispy and holds all the toppings and cheese perfectly together with eat bite. Also, each pizza on the menu focuses on highlighting simple ingredients without doing anything too crazy and trying to make the most out of something. It's simple but unique and the perfect combination of flavors. Service was quick and efficient we didn't have to wait too long for our orders to be ready. There's minimal seating on the inside but they also have a couple of benches outside. I got half and half and chose 'The Bentley' and 'The Shirley'. Both were equally as amazing with so much flavor in each bite and oozing of cheese. 'The Bentley' has chorizo, soppressata, and the most AMAZING spicy honey drizzled on top. 'The Shirley' caught my attention because I LOVE pesto and I was so happy to find out that their pesto is nut-free! LOVE this place and cannot wait to come back!

Yelp
Brick oven pizza is the best kind of pizza! I've ate here only once and they have earned a spot in my top 3 favorite local pizza shops!

Yelp
The pizza is fantastic!! We bought ours from the stand at the Brookmont Farmer's Market in Maryland. Unbelievably delicious. Even the pizza we took home and reheated was awesome.

Yelp
Great pizza options and fast service. If you are a sucky for wood fired pizza checked them out. They also do delivery as well for those not in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Never expected an empanada to surprise me so much. Best one I've had yet. Pizza dough shaped like an empanada, doesn't look like any empanadas that I've had (haven't had too many types). Lovely ambiance with the wood and warm tones. Sucker that they don't serve pizza and are only serving the breakfast menu since i was craving pizza for brunch.

Yelp
DC has a lot of great food... And Timber Pizza stands amongst the best in my pizza-loving opinion! My go-to pizzas (can't go wrong with any of them) are: THE BENTLEY (RED PIZZA) Tomato sauce, provolone and mozzarella blend, cured chorizo, soppressata, Peruvian sweet peppers, spicy honey THE SHIRLEY (WHITE PIZZA) Provolone and mozzarella blend, pesto drizzle, tomato drizzle, jalapeños, cured chorizo, green onions GREEN MONSTER (GREEN PIZZA) Pesto, fresh mozzarella, feta cheese, zucchini, kale Salad choice: THE OMG Seasonal Greens, Cranberries, Candied Pecans, Popped Quinoa, Sliced Apples, Maldon Salt, Cranberry Dressing If you are lucky enough to find a spot inside the small restaurant, it's a thrill to watch the Timber employees work together to churn out delicious and beautiful pizzas. LOVE Timber Pizza - 5 stars!
google avatar

Yelp
Green monster is signature for a reason! Loved the heavy pesto base, didn't even mind the veggies they snuck in. Added chorizo which was unconventional but worked surprisingly well

Yelp
Finally ate at Timber after many years of hearing rave reviews. I was actually more impressed with the salads than the pizza - fresh, interesting, and just the right amount of dressing. The pizza was good - even very good - but not rave-worthy. As a neighborhood joint it is very pleasing but I won't be crossing town for it. I reserve that for Comet PingPong, still my favorite pizza in the District.

Yelp
I came here during a snowstorm, and it was the best since there was no wait. The pizza came out in 6 minutes; it was amazing how quickly the food came out. I recommend eating the pizza fresh since it's truly delicious. Each pie could feed 1 hungry person. I highly recommend The Bentley which is by far the based pizza here. The Shirley was good but the Bentley is by far a grand slam. I imagine on a good day, there will be a wait to come here. They have a well oiled takeout operation, so if you don't want to wait, getting the food for takeout would be ideal.
google avatar

Reese W.

Yelp
It's a small little place, so don't expect a place to sit down when you go. We got our pizza to-go, and it was delicious. We got the Bentley. The staff was really quick with getting orders out!
google avatar

Antonia N.

Yelp
We took the trek out to Pentworth to try Timber after hearing such great things about their pizza. The restaurant is so small with barely any places to sit. The tables are communal - but we got dirty looks when we sat down next to someone... okkkkkk.... The pizza combos on the menu are pretty strange but we went with it! I got half cheese, half Penelope. The pizza came out fast despite the restaurant being pretty full. I found the plain cheese to be better than the Penelope. The crust is soft, very thin crackery with little outside crust. The sauce is on the sweet side. Cheese was nicely melted. The pesto was tasty on the Penelope side but I wasn't a fan of the paprika. Super strange on a pizza. The bacon was nice and crispy but I wish I had more mushrooms. I've had better Neapolitan style pizza elsewhere.

Yelp
This pizza joint is a Petworth staple and has rave reviews from many in the area. I was excited to try it out and unfortunately, was disappointed by the toppings choices, flavor of the pizza, and wait time. I recommend that everyone go and try it for themselves, however, as opinions may vary of course.
google avatar

Maya D.

Yelp
I foolishly tried to eat only half the pizza yesterday and half today... But here I am going to bed with sweet memories and a full stomach. I don't regret a THING. Still shocked at how good this pizza was..... Pizza nowadays is usually so mid that I have low expectations. The Green Monster was probably one of the best pizzas I've ever had. I was extra shocked that the crust remained soft for hours after I bought the pizza. The pesto sauce was so tasty. Everything was perfect. Can't wait to try the others!
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic, innovative toppings and perfectly crisp, chewy crust. Had delivery, but wish we'd been able to eat just out of the oven.

Yelp
Our fav pizza place in DC. Cute spot - not fancy inside, but food is well made - both pizzas and salad. Empanadas are just okay. Pizza choices change with the season. Quick service, they turn around orders at lightening speed! Great staff.

Lolvs V.

Yelp
Very disappointed! Their online ordering system is terrible, super buggy. NO ONE ANSWERS the phone, and the voice mail is full!!! Absolutely will never order again!
google avatar

Yelp
A true neighborhood gem! Super friendly service and amazingly tasty pizza. Just the kind of place that makes me proud to live in Petworth.
google avatar

Yelp
Thin-crust pizzas that are some of the best in DC! I would highly recommend the Lot, a pineapple pizza with chorizo and their delicious pineapple chups, which is similar to a pineapple chutney sauce. I also enjoyed their pulled pork empanadas and note that one can't mix and match flavors. They are all very affordable and each pizza can easily fill one person, but it might also be good to share 1 pizza per 2 people. There are a few tables inside and a few tables outside. One places an order at the counter, and they graciously bring the dishes to you.

Yelp
Food: Excellent food! We ordered the vegetarian empanadas. They were definitely more average but I really enjoyed the jam dipping sauce it came with. I appreciate that they let you split the pizza toppings. We got one pizza with half cheese and half green monster, and then one pizza of the Shirley. The Green Monster was our favorite! It was flavorful and well cooked. We got two beers on taps as well. Service: Pleasant bartender/server. Gave recommendations for the most popular vegetarian pizzas and let me sample a beer before ordering. Ambiance: Small but really cozy. Surprisingly no wait given the order first then sit set up. Overall a quaint neighborhood pizza place, would absolutely go again!!

Yelp
The pizza is still delicious. The customer service is lacking. Your pizza may be ready in 5 minutes or not for over an hour. You've gotta be okay with waiting around with many others while standing outside in the elements for an unknown amount of time (if you order from a mobile truck). You'll never be comped or discounted for the time you've wasted waiting or even offered a sincere apology. But once you get your pizza, at least it'll taste good.

Yelp
Yummy wood-fired pizza in Petworth! This past weekend was my first time trying Timber pizza and it won't be my last. We walked in around 5:15 on a Friday night before heading to a local concert and were easily able to get a table. This place does a brisk carry out business. Inside is super tiny and you may not find a table. You order and pay at the counter and they serve you your food and drink. Due to their small size, they have a small menu. They only offer Pinot Grigio as their white wine. It was average and the pour rather small. But the pizza is above average with a nice char and decent amount of toppings. I also tried their squash empanadas and they were served with a berry sauce that paired well. The employees were friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Big fan of Timber Pizza. It's a great neighborhood spot for pizza and their salads are also lovely. My personal favorite menu items are Pretty in Pepperoni (simple but delicious), the Norman (those nectarines with the bacon and spicy jam!), and their empanadas (especially their breakfast empanadas).

Yelp
First off, my apologies, I had pizza from the Timber Pizza truck, which is just as good if not better than the actual place! Super fresh-- it's fun to watch the pizza get made! I enjoyed the Green Monster-- I had hot sauce and pepper flakes and I'm allll set! I housed down the ENTIRE pizza. I would say it looked close to 10 inches. Solidcore definitely helped my stomach want more-- I feel like I could have eaten another one too! Now, who is the Monster?! If veggies are your thing, try the Green Monster!

Yelp
The folks there treat you like they want you back, very attentive and cool folks. The pizza is the best in town and there is a good reason that they are always very busy!

Yelp
Timber Pizza has been on my list ever since I moved to DC, so I was so excited to try it out recently! We started with orders of the empanadas. They have 2 different flavors, and we tried both. 1. Slow-roasted pork, pickled shallots (spicy pineapple chups to dip) and 2. Butternut Squash, Sofrito, Spicy Pumpkin Seeds (Spicy Cranberry Jam). Both were delicious in totally different ways. I'd get them both whenever I come back. We also split the THE BENTLEY (Tomato sauce, provolone and mozzarella blend, cured chorizo, soppressata, Peruvian sweet peppers, spicy honey (made with Little Red Fox hot sauce) which was delicious. I love any pizza with a honey drizzle, and this didn't disappoint. THE SHIRLEY (Provolone and mozzarella blend, pesto drizzle, tomato drizzle, jalapeños, cured chorizo, green onions) was tasty, but not as delicious as the Bentley. The interior is really small and it gets very crowded, loud, and warm bc of the exposed brick oven. They have some alcoholic and soft drinks as well.

Yelp
When you look up Pizza in D.C. this spot will pop up on EVERY list. With that said, this pie place has been on my list for a good minute (a long time)!! Yelp
Say for instance, you planned to visit a global chain to accrue your last few points for a free pizza. Say for instance that plan was upended after a visit to a farmer's market outside of your apartment, and you're okay with it. That's how I discovered Timber Pizza. People who know me well, know how much I love wood-fired pizza ("the barbecue of pizza"), and all I needed to see was that beautiful brick oven in the parking lot to dart over there and see what they had. Conservative with my toppings, I chose a simple pepperoni pizza, which came up to $12; luckily, one had just come out the oven. I raced upstairs to my unit, indulging in the thin, well-charred crust and the best cheese, sauce and pepperoni I've had in a while. I had devoured the 12" pie before I knew it. So I'll keep this short by saying I'll definitely check out Timber Pizza in their actual location one day.

Yelp
Some clients suggested this place, so we met there. I got there a few minutes before them and was able to snag two seats in the front window. There's not a lot of tables inside for sitting so I'm thankful for the two seats we had. When I got there there was no line so we were able to walk right up and order. I love all kinds of pizza - Detroit, NY, Chicago, thin crust, & wood fired - so love trying new pizza spots. We had the Lot and a half Shirley / half Bentley. They allow you to order the pizza in halves so you can try 2 different kinds on one pie. Cool. Since it's wood fired, it didn't take long at all. Let's start with the Lot. It had slow roasted pork, pineapple, and jalapeños. It's supposed to have cilantro but my guests don't like it so we opted without it. However I know it would've tasted great on this pizza because I love cilantro. I definitely like combination of the pork with the pineapples & a little spice from the jalapeños. The Shirley had chorizo, onion, jalapeños, and pesto, which I love. The Bentley had chorizo, sweet peppers, spicy honey, & salami. It was good too but my least favorite of the 3 because I'm not a huge salami fan. They were all great options with unique flavor profiles that you don't see it the average pizzeria. I came here expecting good pizza but what I was not expecting was the desert. Since it was just ice cream I wasn't expecting much, but it's the small details that really made this dessert the unexpected star of the night. According to the menu, the small serves 1 to 2 people. Lies! Three of us shared it and we could've easily add a fourth. We did add an extra cone though because a small only comes with two. I love a sugar cone or a waffle cone, but I've never had a wood fired cone. I could taste the hints of the wood in the cone. Genius. This was my first time having Dolcezza vanilla gelato and I'm definitely a fan. The ice cream was topped with granola, jam, chocolate shavings, and green apple slices. I've had all of those things before but never on ice cream, with the exception of the chocolate of course. It was really good. I'm not surprised but the combination was unexpected. Next time I would get extra granola because I really enjoyed the taste and the crunch. The tart green apple slices gave it a little balance, and they were so fresh and crisp. I'm glad I can add Timber to my list of fav pizza places.

Yelp
Nothing like having fresh, wood-fired Timber pizza made right on your doorstep - especially on a cold and rainy day! There had been a few times in the past when the truck had to cancel due to bad weather, in particular the stormy kind as the wind would literally blow their tent away. But today we lucked out as it was just rainy but no wind so they came as scheduled. Two years on, we still look forward every time to the Timber truck's visit to our neighborhood. The menu is still limited to 5 varieties but we haven't gotten tired of them yet! Tonight we got two of my favorites - Pepperoni and Shirley, with enough leftover for lunch tomorrow, as usual. Until next time!

Alex M.

Yelp
Beautiful food. Vegan options. Smallish, but very popular. My experience with service has mostly been at cash register. My recollection is folks are speedy.

Jivak S.

Yelp
Came back a second time to introduce my girlfriend to Timber! We came right when they opened on a Saturday and grabbed a seat outside because the weather was nice. My group was vegetarian so we only ordered vegetarian pizzas! We ordered three pizzas: Cheese Please, Green Monster, and The Lucy! The Cheese Please and The Lucy were new to me as I came during a different season (they rotate flavors every season I believe). I really loved The Lucy and the Green Monster, can't go wrong with any of the pizzas, they all seem to be amazing. The Cheese Please was a basic cheese so that's give or take. The roasted cauliflower on The Lucy was great and matched well with the flavors on the white pizza. Overall great place for pizza in DC, they are flavorful and consistently good! We will be back again!

Yelp
Pizza was delicious. Server and cashier were polite and helpful. The only criticism are the fly's that we're flying around the restaurant.
google avatar

Rumit P.

Yelp
It was $20 for 2 can sodas and a 14" pizza plain cheese pizza with fresh basil leaves. The service was good, the ambiance was pleasant, there are some picnic table benches outside, and the pizza was freshly made and delivered quickly to our table.

Vernon B.

Yelp
Really good pizza, it definitely gives me neighborhood pizza vibes. The prickly pear drink was good too. Very polite service and seems family run

Yelp
The hype around this place is well deserved! We had it for the first time this weekend and wish we had tried it sooner. The Ward 4 and Pepperoni pizza were *chef's kiss.* I typically don't gravitate toward thin crust pizza because I love the dough of thicker pies, but this one managed to be thin and also have delicious dough - I'll be back!

Dibs S.

Yelp
My husband and I have eaten here quite a few times and the only complaint we'd have is that it's often too crowded to find a place to sit..! We like sitting at the bar and have always enjoyed what we've had, and the bartender has always been patient and pleasant. This is one of our favorite places to treat ourselves when we're too lazy to cook, and it's semi guilt free because there's lots of healthy options. It's a friendly, cozy neighborhood spot that again can get full quickly because the food is that good and affordable.
google avatar

Mehdi D.

Yelp
Oh man, this is so far my favorite pizza in the DMV. The cheese pizza might be the best I've ever had, comparisons to Italy and NYC included
google avatar

Oluchi V.

Yelp
The Green monster pizza is excellent, the Bentley pizza is pretty good, and the veggie empanadas filing is flavorful but maybe a bit too much filling for me. Excited to try other items on the menu!
google avatar

Angela J.

Yelp
After reading the reviews and wanting a really good pizza, I gave them a shot. It was pretty dry and flavorless with slightly burnt edges,. After one slice I gave it to my dog!
google avatar

Beth F.

Yelp
Perfect neighborhood pizza place. Not fancy but everything you want your local pizza restaurant to be. Fast, really fresh, enough variety, enough help and delicious without being pretentious. Pizzas, salads, drinks, outdoor seating is communal and dog friendly. Great spot!.

Yelp
TIMBERRRRRRRRR!! (my former favorite pizza joint has just gone down in rank) Came here on a Wednesday night and ordered The LRF and The Bentley. The LRF was a nice salad with ingredients that complimented each other well. I especially loved the hot honey dressing which wasn't too hot and added a nice twang. The Bentley was amazing. The cheese, sauce, meats and peppers tasted delicious. The crust was nice and pliable for folding or eating normal-style. Would love to return and eat my way through the menu
google avatar

Kenneth K.

Yelp
Timber is some of the best pizza in the area. I first tried them at the USDA Farmer's Market. I once ate here in person with my fiancée and also loved their beer selection. I even considered them for my wedding but ended up with a more traditional caterer. I've ordered from them twice on DoorDash since and loved it both times. Last time we had the Green Monster (my favorite) as well as The Turu. Definitely try this place either in person or via delivery.

Yelp
This place has a great ambiance to it. The inside of the restaurant is ornate and cozy. It's warm and inviting, with friendly staff ready to make your meal great. I enjoyed the pizza. While my pizza was unevenly cooked it tasted great. I would have appreciated the basil to be cooked onto the pizza, but the cheese was perfect and the crust tasted great. You can't go wrong at this place.
google avatar

Laura P.

Yelp
Always a pleaser. Stopped in late afternoon on a Saturday to a busy kitchen, happy to take our order and it was ready within 10 minutes. I got the The Taylor - lamb, peas, pesto and almonds. I nixed the cheese, (I'm dairy free) even though they do now have vegan cheese!! I added roasted cauliflower instead. It's not a cheap pizza, but high quality and unique, ample toppings. I easily ate the whole thing. No regrets.
google avatar

Heidi P.

Yelp
Delicious pizza, especially the Green Monster. Their gluten free crust is great, too!
google avatar

Yelp
these guys catered a random party I was DJing. never heard of the company and picked up a piece of what I thought was pepperoni pizza. I never thought I would say this about pizza but you have not lived until you've tried this pizza.. I never knew how passionate I could be about pizza. I even took the time to sign up for yelp just to review these guys. It's like who thinks I'm gonna reinvent pizza. I know the state of pizza was bad, but this is just on another level. It should be called something different than pizza. I'm afraid to look up the nutritional information because I love falling in love with things and the passion that's running through me as I write this review. thank you for taking the time to hear my pizza rant

Yelp
We came to Timber Pizza after a pizza craving hit. We ordered the cheese pizza with green onions, the Lucy and a bottle of white wine. The cheese pizza was very good. The lucy needed a little more something to it but was overall not bad. We will definitely be back to try other options.
