On the Grid : Tin Fish

"San Diego is kind of known for seafood, and this is a great spot to give it a shot. Great locally-caught seasonal fish served as tacos, burritos, salads, and plates. Oh, and they have clam chowder bread bowls. Feel free to bring a group since there's plenty of outdoor seating, and enjoy a nice cold beer while you're at it." - Fifty & Fifty

Google
wow this little restaurant was well worth the walk down the pier. The food was amazing and so were the views. I would definitely recommend anyone visiting the area make this a stop for lunch. Be sure to bring your windbreaker since it can be pretty windy out there. Don't miss out on this treasure if you're in the area, we got the fish and chips and the clam chowder and would recommend them to anyone.

Google
One of my favorite places to eat I've ever been to! Great food, great price, great friendly staff!! Came in from out of town and decided to check it out. Even though was close to closing time they took my order and let me eat inside and never said anything about closing soon or anything, I didn't realize until I was finished eating. Hard to find places this good and friendly now adays, can't wait to go back!

Carla C.

Google
Best dinner while sitting outside watching a beautiful sunset! I normally don't like fish, but this was really good. The shrimp was delicious. Their cole slaw is amazing! Staff was super friendly. Next vacation, I'll definitely be eating here again!

Amy H.

Google
Perfect little low-key place to grab great fried fish and a cold beer and just sit on Imperial Pier and watch the ocean and the people and all the things going on. The guy who took our order was very friendly and the food came very fast! The beer was huge and very tasty. I visit this place every time I come to San Diego and it has gone through some changes over the years, but it is still one of my favorite places

Google
Gave four stars due to there is no sign pointing in the direction of the restaurant. Navigation just says, arrived and out of the mini restaurants located in the same area. You have to figure out where this particular restaurant is located. Restaurant is located at the end of a fishing pier as you walk down people are catching and cleaning fish. Owner was very nice and attentive, food was really good, and is cooked to order. Plenty of outdoor seating on the pier limited inside seating.

Ismael M.

Google
I was expecting an average fish sandwich at best. I was really surprised at how good this was. Made fresh to order.

Google
We decided to walk down the Imperial Beach pier and try the Tin Fish restaurant. We ordered the 6 piece fish and chips. The breading on the fish is a cornmeal batter and it came with a small dish of Cole slaw and waffle fries. We eat out a lot, so we are kind of picky. This isn't our favorite style of fried fish, but it was decent, cooked well and a reasonable price. The fries looked to be frozen fries, but were crispy and cooked perfectly. Actually, it was a lot of food for the price. My husband and I shared the meal. The views were excellent and the dining area and pier were remarkably clean for a pier. Service was excellent. They were quirky and fun when they called our name over the intercom to come pick up our food at the window.

Google
Amazing location and food! The staff was super friendly, always ensuring we had what we needed! We had the lobster roll, salmon collars, and calamari appetizer along with an oyster/saki shot! Everything was exceptional and we will definitely return next time we are in the area!

Yelp
Don't skip that walk down that pier! You think it's just a walk and people fishing or sightseeing but you'll miss out on some bomb lobster rolls! And those fries, oh man.. Everything isn't soaked in butter or extremely oily, it's just right. We thought we would share once we got there but we all ended up getting our own rolls haha
google avatar

Clay T.

Yelp
A nice walk down the pier complete with some lobster rolls and crispy fries. Rolls were great with extremely fresh lobster and well buttered. Fries must have been triple fried as they were crazy good and crispy. 9 month old daughter was a fan of the lobster as well!

Yelp
Ambience is unique. Located at the end of Imperial Pier, we could feel the restaurant move with the surf, and dodged spray from breakers below the boardwalk. The interior of the restaurant was tug boat spartan decor. Service was tug boat slow but sure. Clam chowder and fries really hit the spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a cool spot to enjoy a nice meal. The fish was fresh and the ocean scene and beautiful sunset made for a very enjoyable and relaxing time. I guarantee, we eill be back
google avatar

Jason V.

Yelp
You would see this place at the end of Imperial Beach pier, and think the food would be basic or average. Its actually really good! We were staying at a hotel next to the pier, so we walked over to try it out. Over a couple of days we had a burger, fish, Shrimp Po Boy, and chicken tenders. Everything was cooked well and was seasoned just right. They also had beer! Very large menu. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area again. Staff is also very chill and nice
google avatar

Jason F.

Yelp
Just a quick stop for the fish tacos. Food and atmosphere is always good, and the staff is always super chill.

Yelp
I have eaten here multiple times already and I still kept complaining to my husband that it was a very long walk for me to get into this " TIN FIN " 'coz the pier is too long. I think with me walking slowly, it takes 5 minuites to walk to get to the end of this pier, so I always tell my husband and son to walk ahead without me and order the food already ;) These are the usual food we order here : * CALAMARI PLATTER *CLAM CHOWDER BOWL * FISH & SHRIMP COMBO Their CALAMARI PLATTER is good here. Crispy Calamari was well seasoned and good portion, this was my husband's food and he loved it. My Son likes the FISH & SHRIMP here. Good-sized Shrimp and their shrimp are also well seasoned and he likes the Fish too it's crispy outside and soft inside. But for me, I think the FISH needs more seasoning on the batter. Oh, but my CLAM CHOWDER BREAD BOWL, which I always order here, is creamy and very good. The staff are nice, the food is good, and I love watching people around here fishing and see what they catch.

Yelp
Great food! Best pier food in town . Fish was very fresh, fries were crispy, awesome combo
google avatar

Kai W.

Yelp
I have been here many times and every time it is very good food, I mainly get the lobster roll and fries and it delivers!

Katherine W.

Yelp
Was supposed to open at 11, but when we walked in to order they said they weren't ready, to give them 10-15 minutes. Then 5 minutes later, an apparent regular customer went in and they served him. The second time we went in, we weren't even acknowledged. My husband bought a drink and we left. We were hoping for an amazing view and good food. We only got the amazing view.

Yelp
Tin fish is your reward for walking all the way down to the end of the Imperial Beach Pier. The restaurant has been here for over twenty years, and I've not been disappointed one time. Today we were treated to a spectacular sunset as we enjoyed our dinner. We also had the pleasure of attending emo night in the form of our friendly and energetic cashier/DJ! Thanks for the entertainment, sorry I didn't catch your name. We ordered a Fried fish Po' boy, truffle fries, sourdough grilled cheese, and sodas. They serve a good selection of beer as well. We originally wanted the truffle mac and cheese, but they were out this night. I paid and left a tip, and to my surprise, they rang the bell hanging by the register and cheered for me. The food came out in 5-10 minutes. My Po' boy was delicious. Crispy, breaded fish with mayo and greens on a buttered, grilled baguette. Fries - delicious. Truffle flavor prominent but not too strong and not too salty. Grilled cheese- I was told it was tasty also. Told you, I still love this town. It has its charms.

Yelp
Fish and chips is DELICIOUS HERE! It's one of the few places I can locate fried clams. I really love the fisherman's platter. It comes with fish, shrimp, clams and fries. The mahi taco is Amazing!
google avatar

Yesenia J.

Yelp
We came to enjoy the day at the pier. And overall it was a good day! The food was really good. My husband and I shared this plate as weren't too hungry and he also got a beer. Waffle fries 10/10. We enjoyed the views of the ocean and the lady in the front was super nice!
google avatar

Camilo O.

Yelp
The review is boldly on the fish and chips and they were good. The service was good and quick. The view is beautiful and can see all the sea. Cant promise of getting of something else but the fish and chips will not disappoint you.

Rose C.

Yelp
This place has always been incredible. Today blue all other times out the water. Still amazing customer service. The owner picked up me and my dad. She is amazing lady. He's recovering from heart surgery and doesn't have the energy to walk like he used to. I hurt my foot. So it was great that she offers that to all who call and ask. Also when time permits. Inside gave the best beach vibes. You can sit inside or out and just feel relaxed. Let me tell you the Fish and Chips have a flavor like no other spot in SD! Oh and the shrimp!!! It's a party in your mouth! Plus if you want to go on the lighter side the mahi-mahi fish salad, incredible. All in all this spot is amazing. Thank you Tin Fish for our delicious meals today.

Yelp
Hi - my wife and I enjoyed lunch today at the Imperial Beach location, and as usual, Tri via was friendly and helpful and prepared an excellent meal for us - Sloppy Salmon Bowl, Fish and Shrimp Plate, Brussels sprouts, and a side of (delicious!) waffle fries. The fish was perfectly cooked - well seasoned and moist, fries were seasoned with the perfect amount of Cajun seasoning, and the Brussels sprouts were crispy and incredible. Tricia and the staff will take good care of you if you decide to venture out on the pier. While enjoying your meal, you can watch surfers having fun on their surfboards and fisherman enjoying their sport. Could you update your phone number here and on your website? The phone number shared has been disconnected. Thanks!

Yelp
Nothing like fish and chips and a cold beer sitting at the end of the pier to enjoy what nature has to offer. Excellent service
google avatar

Hoyt C.

Yelp
Absolute low key perfection! 2 dudes and their food. Unassuming deliciousness on the Pacific Ocean.
google avatar

Bobby T.

Yelp
Made the trek out here to see the water and the homeland Mexico in the distance. Just happened to have my new favorite American Lager, Easy Rider. Love this spot. Has those classic SoCal vibes along with the food and drinks to back it up.
google avatar

Yelp
The walk on this pier to this restaurant was immaculate lol I would definitely make the walk through a storm for that lobster roll. The service/staff was great and I had an overall positive experience. The fries aren't just any fries, they're waffle cut and seasoned perfectly. I got them extra crispy. Definitely gotta try their ranch & kaboom sauce. The bread the lobster roll was in was soooo buttery and yummy!!!!! And the lobster itself was PACKED inside. Slightly lemon-y & buttery but not so overpowering. Literal perfection. That lobster was so tender too. I'm not a lobster lover but oh ma gawd I am for their lobster roll!!!!!! 10/10
google avatar

Yelp
We parked easily paying $2 for 8 hours of parking. We walked down the pier to the restaurant at lunchtime. We easily ordered our clam plate with spiced waffle fries, the shrimp appetizer, and two hazy beers. We found our table to wait, taking in the ocean views. They made our meal fresh and it arrived in about four minutes. It was more than enough delicious food for the pair of us!
google avatar

Linda H.

Yelp
This was a favorite haunt of mine but now their prices are very high. I can't just stroll out there and get a small something to eat. But my bigger complaint is that they "own" the end of the pier so walkers can't go out there except when they're open. And they don't always open on time. I walked out today after 11 o'clock and the gate is still closed. This is a public pier and it should be open to walkers. Hopefully the city will rescind their exclusive use soon. It was put into place because of Covid and the need for it is over. Time to let fishermen and walkers return to the end of this public pier.
google avatar

S G.

Yelp
Credit card transaction requires a tip amount. May be you can exit out without a tip but it's not apparent after 3 clicks. Not a good practice when no service was done. Everything is self order and self pick up. Even grab our own tokens for restroom. Tip fatigue is real. Prices are already sky high for being at the pier. Do not recommend.

christopher b.

Yelp
Says they are open till 9:30 it's 6:21pm and they said they are done serving food. I don't get it update your hours if that is the case

Brian T.

Yelp
I did not have any food but I made the walk out the pier multiple times over multiple days to grab a pint of Aloha Warrior and take in the great views. Will definitely do it again!
google avatar

Kurt S.

Yelp
Great fish every time I go here. The view is great, and the service is excellent. There is a small dining area with a very nice view of the ocean. Try this place out if you're on the pier!
google avatar

Kimberly H.

Yelp
Love going here mainly for the atmosphere. You can see Tijuana, Downtown San Diego, and the Coronado Islands from here and it's the most southwesterly point in the United States. On a good day you can see dolphins playing in the distance. Lots of free street parking generally. Friendly staff. We usually get fish and chips, oysters, and a large beer. Cheers!
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
The lobster roll and fries are FIRE! Great beer on tap and super friendly service! Love this joint!
google avatar

Nohemi A.

Yelp
Fresh, fast and funny. A lively group of young people whipping up yummy fresh fish. Personable and great service. Literally cannot complain. Good job :)
google avatar

Yelp
This place has been are family spot we'd bring family down to enjoy the good fresh fish n fries. Today we bought our buddy for lunch and boy did he enjoy his self like us. What not to like with good and a great sunny afternoon and able to enjoy outside on the pier. We always support small business. It's been hard for everyone but it looks promising now I hope. So wear your mask and wash your hand too. We love it here so come by and order a lunch or dinner here the oysters on half shell & great crab cakes and much more on the menu
google avatar

Gingerlily L.

Yelp
Take a lovely walk down the IB Pier and at the end you'll find Tin Fish. It's a great place to stop for calamari and waffle fries. The menu said I was also supposed to get some coleslaw with it, but I forgot to ask them what happened to it. We also ordered a shrimp quesadilla. Both were good. The best thing is sitting outside at the end of the pier and watching the dolphins swim by while enjoying a good little meal.
google avatar

Jess L.

Yelp
Came here with friends, and it instantly got packed. The food was good the only issue was we waited a long time for a food to come in and my friend never received her food at all. So we just had to leave. But this place is good though. The New England clam chowder was fire though.. I'll definitely be back for that.

Athena R.

Yelp
I got the kaboom shrimp and truffle fries It was so yum I ate it all also the fries are good in the kaboom sauce so yeah eat here and the staff is funny af

Yelp
Can't go there, Closed for business. Would have been a cool experience.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?!?!?! I don't know how the food was.

Antonio R.

Yelp
Great place!!! Delicious food and Trisha was freaking awesome! Went two days in a row ! We stayed at the Pier South Resort and the restaurant called Toasted was no even close to what the Tin Fish sells! Epic!
google avatar

Carina S.

Yelp
Made a stop at the beach as we were heading back home to AZ. Yeah It was so good! We had a shrimp poboy, fries and calamari! The service was good and the music was great! Shrimp taste so fresh and just perfect eating it on the pier!
google avatar

Lalalia A.

Yelp
Great eats at a good price. My children enjoyed it. Everything was tasty- could of been 5 stars if the portions could be a little more
google avatar

Jules A.

Yelp
Tacos were phenomenal, I often crave them at least twice a month lol. Nothing can top this place! So good, great staff, nothing negative to say! Can't wait to come back
google avatar

Trevor M.

Yelp
As locals Tin Fish gives us a solid excuse to walk the pier every once in a while. We usually go for fish and chips/ lobster roll and a beer while we soak in the amazing sunset views and watch TJ come alive. Friendly staff. Always a good experience.

Linda

Yelp
Love the walk on the pier, then a good bite to eat with a beer. Almost always see Dolphins and Seals. Trish is great too.
google avatar

Kathy N.

Yelp
A-OK for grabbing a snack at the end of the pier. Tough to review a place like this in times like these though. People coming inside to order weren't always doing the social distancing thing and the guy behind the counter had to repeatedly remind people very loudly. Decent enough menu. We had a 6-piece fish and chips to share and a giant 32 oz beer out on one of the tables on the pier. Fish was hot and crispy and flaky inside - pretty good. Waffle fries served with the fish were substandard but edible. I really liked the coleslaw, especially since I'm not a fan of creamy dishes/salads. This one was light and delicious. Plate came with tartar sauce but had to ask for ketchup and malt vinegar which was kind of an ordeal. Still a good place to have lunch while walking the pier.
google avatar

Tamara W.

Yelp
Great views! There are tacos, seafood options, and drinks. Great place to take your family. I love when they have live music!
google avatar

Chris G.

Yelp
One word AMAZING! The customer service is top notch, super friendly, funny and just amazing! The food was even better! If you come here you won't be disappointed. Thank you for everything you all rock! Georgii
google avatar

Yelp
An innocent stroll down the pier ended up being one of my best eating experiences during my stay in San Diego! We happened to go inside to check out the menu and see if anything interested us, as it was close to lunch time, the menu and the attentive friendly staff immediately caught out attention and so we decided to give it a try. We ordered the fish tacos(mahi) and the fisherman's combo which came with fried clams, shrimp and fish. Both were extreme well seasoned, the sauces were great and best of all none of these items were drenched in grease. The fresh delicious taste was the only thing left to savor. If it's a great seafood place you crave, look no further, just follow the pier to the best in town!
google avatar

Serah I.

Yelp
Lunch at The Tin Fish today, was outstanding! The view - Stunning. The crew inside - AMAZING. & Chef Miles had everyone who was sitting outside, laughing hysterically with his loud-speaker-order-numbers. I swear, he's going to become a tourist attraction for our this little town. The food - INCREDIBLE. - trust me, good clam chowder is hard to find & these guys got it. Simple. To the point & filled to the brim, in a chewy//crispy sourdough bread bowl. Classic! Definitely putting Tin Fish on our frequent faves list, after today!

Kepra J.

Yelp
Location and views are 9/10, nuisance birds were annoying! Food was good, majority is fried. We had fish tacos, mahi-good. Burger was ok. Not what they're known for. Fries were excellent. Staff works hard. Walk down the pier was great, takes a bit-not a short jaunt! Worth the visit!!
google avatar

Yelp
Omg ! What a beautiful day to walk out the Imperial Beach pier. The Tin Fish Restaurant was a great surprise to wander in to. Situated at the end of the Pier surrounded by the waves breaking ,seagulls and occasional dolphins feeding. I took a chance and ordered the lobster roll. It was authentic New England in every way . Omg I would walk out this pier just to have another one . I highly recomment this experience and food. Friendly Clean

Tania A.

Yelp
Rude customer service after waiting for an hour for our food they came to take our tray from the table and cashier lasy literally dumped the garbage on our table as we were eating.

Yelp
