Chelsea Market’s Best Food | Eater NY

"One of Chelsea Market's newest stalls, Tings features unreconstructed Jamaican fare: the jerk chicken is thickly coated with traditional spices (allspice prominent), a quarter chicken comes with abundant rice and peas and a chopped mango relish, the hot sauce is very hot, and side dishes—especially the stewed greens dotted with onions and sweet bell peppers—excel; oxtails, jerk salmon, and meat patties are also available." - Robert Sietsema

I was in the area and wanted some soup. I had the hot and sour soup it was good. I Also had Hunan chicken I enjoyed it. We eat here but I think it’s more a take out spot.

Google
This was my first time visiting this restaurant. I Searched google for restaurants near me after leaving a doctor’s appointment and this one has good reviews. I’m very selective of my Chinese restaurants and decided the reviews were good enough to trust trying a new place. The appetizer for two was good. Everything was seasoned well and tasted good. The Singapore Mei Fun tasted just as good as the one I get from my favorite spot. The Pepper Steak did not have a good ratio of steak and onions and peppers. As you can see from the picture, It was mostly peppers and onions. I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t as good as the one I get from my favorite spot. The Triple Delight was also good, but was missing something that left it not as good as what I usually get. Overall, I would eat here again and try their other dishes. I ordered online and the food was ready when I arrived. Staff greeted me and the total experience was positive.

Google
Stopped in for a quick dinner. Ordered some routine offerings; hot and sour soup, General Tso's Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Garlic Scallops with Fried Rice. Soup was not hot, nor sour, nor flavored. Even after adding soy sauce packets, no flavor. Tiny scallops were buried beneath a forest of broccoli. Sesame chicken was a mushy, underwhelming, disappointing container if sustenance. General Tso hung his head. Chicken was soggy floating in a watery brown liquid along with some sad broccoli. Maybe the kitchen was out of corn starch and MSG. Three adults ate for $70...

Google
I love this place, I get lunch takeout pretty often. The beef & broccoli is great, egg rolls are delicious. I've also had the double cooked pork which was wonderful and had a bit of spice to it.

Google
This is easily the best to-go Chinese food I've ever tasted. I would take them over PF Chang's any day. The General Tso's, both chicken and tofu, are consistently top notch: crispy outside, tender inside, and tangy sauce with the perfect bit of spice. As a bonus, the staff are incredibly friendly and the location is kept impressively clear of clutter. My new favorite take out spot.

Sarah

Google
Super friendly employees. Wonderful and tasty made with high quality ingredients . The restaurant is very clean too.

Google
Definitely for takeout, not for dining in. So far it’s had the best Chinese food of any restaurant I’ve tried in this area. The pork fried rice has the tasty chopped pork I expect to get instead of the little stringy brown pieces that many Chinese restaurants are using now. However, it lacked flavor. The beef with vegetables has very tender pieces of meat, and the vegetables taste very fresh. It’s very good, but needs a bit more brown sauce. The boneless barbecued pork has wonderful flavor but too many pieces with gristle, so I don’t recommend it. Overall, I’ve had two good experiences with Tings’s so far, and I will be ordering from them again.

Google
Quick, friendly service. Consistent, delicious food. Hot and sour soup is a must! Great take-out spot!

Yelp
Seems like just a pickup spot, for the most part. Best lo mein I've had, and good fried rice and general tso chicken. Dumplings were good too. This place will remain a good spot to return to.

Yelp
For a quick and yummy typical American/Chinese meal, swing into Ting's! Located in the Huguenot shopping center near Trader Joe's! We usually just do take out! They are efficient and easy to order! Check it out!

Yelp
The Chinese food place that we usually go to has kind of gone downhill so we decided to try this place. I ordered my regular order of beef lo mein, general Tso's chicken, and egg rolls. The ordering process was super easy online and they started texting me order updates. By the time I was parking in front of the store I got a message that my order was ready which was exactly when they said it would be ready. The lady that took my payment was very nice. The place was clean and had tables if you want to eat there. The food tasted amazing! I loved the lo mein and general tso's chicken. Egg rolls were really good as well. Definitely will be back regularly for some good Chinese food.

Yelp
I came during my lunch break to grab a to go order. Service was pretty quick. I ordered on my drive over and only had to wait a few minutes. The inside was clean and had a few tables to dine in. Once I got to work I was able to enjoy my meal. The food was hot and fresh. The pork egg roll was a little overcooked. It was obvious that it had been reheated. The beef with broccoli was a lot less than I'm used to but had a good flavor. The sauce was more of a savory vs sweet flavor. It came with white rice, which tasted freshly made.

Paul A.

Yelp
Definitely above average food, and good sized servings. I especially like that they serve a big bowl of soup (yay vegetarian hot and sour) with their lunch special. Not much ambiance. Not where you would go on a date.

Rob B.

Yelp
Not sure what happened but my food tonight is bad. Flavor is way off. General Tso is a soupy mess. Lo mein is off. Fried rice is bland. Wow. This was my go to spot but not anymore.
google avatar

Mandy T.

Yelp
Based off of my takeout experience, I'd recommend checking Ting's Chinese Restaurant out if you're craving Chinese food or want something quick to eat. I called and within 10 minutes, the food was ready! The lady at the front was friendly and directed me to the sauce/utensil counter if I needed any hot sauce, etc. The food was piping hot and delicious! I didn't think it was too oily, and I was a big fan! Parking was easy and I will be back if I'm in the area again.

Yelp
I had the Singapore rice noodles and it was delicious. I would definitely order it again but that's the only dish I had. It was my first time there. Looking forward to having it again.

T B.

Yelp
I have gone here for years and it was, at first, acceptable run-of-the-mill Chinese food. I noticed a steep decline in the food in the past year or two. The chicken is rubbery and taste like cardboard almost as if it is heated in a microwave first. Avoid Tings better to drive the extra mile to PF Changs.
google avatar

Kristen B.

Yelp
Very pleased with everything we have tried here! We especially like the pork fried rice.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
The restaurant seems to be setup only for takeout. It looks like a standard Chinese takeout place. The woman who is always there is friendly. Most important though, I simply love their veggie spring rolls and General Tso's tofu. I think I've ordered it over a dozen times. They do accept DoorDash orders, but not any others. I tend to just pick it up as it's a bit far. It's a good excuse to stop at Bottlecraft and Trader Joe's anyways.

Yelp
Best Chinese food in Chesterfield and Richmond. Fresh, flavorful, and appropriately priced. Some Chinese restaurants are trying too hard to be fancy. Leave that to PF Chang because you're in a strip mall next to the liquor store. This place isn't like that. It's the products and flavors you would expect from a Chinese food place. However, the product they use is high quality. Their rice is never hard because it's been sitting too long in the cooker. No stringy, fatty chicken. My go to dishes are the broccoli with garlic sauce, pork fried rice, and chicken egg rolls.

Yelp
Food - Fresh & Fantastic Service - Super Smile. When I walk in she knows my order. Ambiance - 4 Star Lunch Time Tables are often full. The place is clean, but I wouldn't suggest it for a first date. Take out is the way to go.

Maddy B.

Yelp
Worst customer service, didn't want to explain what the differences between a combo and a large.

Valarie B.

Yelp
Fresh and delicious Chinese takeout. We used to go to Cathay Gourmet until they changed owners. This is our new favorite.

Laura R.

Yelp
First time, takeout. Online ordering easy. The food was ready ahead of schedule but packaged so it stayed hot for the 15 minute drive home. We ordered chicken egg rolls, moo shu beef with added "Chinese" vegetables, and a small white rice in case the 4 crepes didn't hold all the moo shu. Next time (I will go again) I will ask to add a second little container of plum sauce, but was happy with my order. The beef was lean and added veggies very good. Wish they had veggie egg rolls on the menu but only in spring rolls could you get just veggies or chicken.
google avatar

Bill N.

Yelp
Reviews are bs. There are far better Chinese restaurants within throwing distance of Tings. Whoever rated this place above 3 needs their taste buds adjusted. I'm not traveling 7 miles to have less than average Chinese. Try Hunan wok, far better quality and quantity. Nuf said.

Yelp
Very refreshing to eat "Good Chinese food" again: I read Yelp, only saw about a dozen reviews. So I was still skeptical. Then I walked in, and it reminded me of bad Chinese food places, but from the minute I gave my order, the woman who worked the register was very nice, to the food, I was not disappointed. Food was 5 Stars, I had the Shredded Pork w/ Garlic Sauce, and an Egg Roll. Both were exceptional. The vegetables were very fresh, a d the pork was super tender. The sauce was spot on with a little kick, not greasy at all. I definitely will be back. If the interior was more of a restaurant, and not Togo, I would rate this 5 stars. But the food was definitely 4.5 to 5
google avatar

Jasmine K.

Yelp
Not good. Went based on yelp reviews. Singapore noodles and Hunan chicken were not edible. The seasoning on the noodles had a funny smell and taste. Hunan chicken was tasteless. Even the general tso's chicken was mushy. Dumplings looked like they came from the frozen section at Costco. Pork fried rice was only thing worth eating. Can't understand the five star ratings. Maybe their regular Chef had a day off.

Riley G.

Yelp
The food was amazing! True New England style and flavor. I moved to RVA 4 years ago and finally found the best Chinese food spot in the state. We ordered pickup for nye and it was ready on time and the service was amazing. Super clean inside too

Melissa L.

Yelp
Great takeout! I highly recommend! Great overall in taste, value and portion size. This will be my new Chinese take-out spot!

Aliyah C.

Yelp
We've been coming here for a while, but our latest trip left us with bad smelly shrimp. I honestly think this place needs a visit from the health department. You should never ever serve bad shrimp to customers and then once we told them they acted like we were lying to them until we told we told them to SMELL it. The fact they didn't make it a priority to listen to us when this establishment can be shut down over bad seafood is very telling. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE. If i could give 0 stars i would.

Ed Q.

Yelp
The service was delightful when I picked up our food. The food was very good. We've ordered from Ting's before and have always been pleased.
google avatar

Lola V.

Yelp
I'm rating 5 stars for cleanliness. Probably the cleanest Chinese restaurant place I've ordered from. The prices are reasonable and the wait time isn't too bad. Food is very good and you can tell each order is cooked fresh versus being pre-made. Workers are always friendly and helpful. Besides them being closed on Monday, i love this place. Will always order from them because I trust their food.

Linda S.

Yelp
This is such a friendly place that makes wonderful chicken lo mein. Also love their spring rolls.

Kris F.

Yelp
We tried Ting's about a year ago and had a bad experience, my review was only two stars. Based on numerous friends who continue to sing Ting's praises, we gave them another shot. SO much better than our last visit! All of our food was flavorful and had a good amount of heat. We had hot and sour soup, wonton soup and twice cooked pork and Hunan Chicken. We will get take out from Ting's again. So happy that our food was much improved over our first visit.

Tina K.

Yelp
Looks like they're just getting the business started, Just a few seats inside and bare walls. I got takeout food, which was very good. General Tso's chicken, Kung Pao Chicken, Cashew shrimp, fried rice and hot and sour soup were all good. Egg rolls were lukewarm by the time I got them home, but not bad. We really miss China Panda on Robious, which was our go to place for decades, but closed recently. We've been looking for a good substitute, and Ting's is it. Would have given 5 stars, but the food was not ready in 20 minutes as estimated - more like 35. Hopefully this business will take off and do well.

Yelp
I think this is a pretty good place to get take out. Nice egg rolls and plenty to choose from on the menu. Friendly staff who were pleased to see us and glad we visited. Clean bright space, not cluttered with unused equipment or old furniture.

Yelp
OMG. BEST.FOOD.EVER. Ordered my fav, tofu house style. I was utterly impressed how delicious it was. It was cooked JUST RIGHT. None came close to how good it is. Bookmarked this restaurant as one of my fav. I'll definitely back to try other dishes

Yelp
In my opinion this is the best Chinese restaurant in Bon Air. We call in our order and it's always correct, ready on time, hot and delicious . The restaurant and kitchen is spotless. There is a smile and a warm welcome we I pick up our order. Thanks Ting's for being our neighbor hood Chinese take out. I appreciate your commitment to great service and great food for my family. See you soon

Yelp
I just moved to the area and wanted to try the local Chinese food options. It's always a roll of the dice when it comes to Chinese takeout. Ting's did not disappoint. I order an egg roll, beef teriyaki sticks, and beef and broccoli. It was some of the best Chinese food I have had in VA. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly. Can't wait to try more items from their menu.

Tom M.

Yelp
I am basing this review as a Chinese carryout location, and it is very good to outstanding. I had the shrimp Lo Mein with extra shrimp today, and it was outstanding ($12.57 total with tax). It was actually the best Lo Mein I've ever had. I have also had the General Tso's chicken, shrimp fried rice, chicken with broccoli, wonderful crab rangoon, and egg rolls. The egg rolls are just ok which is why this review isn't five stars, but I am very picky about egg rolls. I have yet to find an outstanding egg roll in the Richmond area. I have called in all my orders, and the service has always being very efficient and friendly. Give this place a chance. It is much better than the other Chinese place rght around the corner.

Yelp
Best carry out Chinese in town. My fiancée and I tried this place out Saturday night on a whim. We just wanted Chinese and it was the closest spot. We were blown away by the quality of the food. We ordered the Beef & Broccoli and the Chicken Lo Mein. The beef was soft and tender. Melt in your mouth good and the broccoli tasted fresh. We will definitely be ordering from here again even though there are plenty of carry out Chinese choices closer to home.

Jeff S.

Yelp
Delicious. We have gotten take out multiple times and everything tastes amazing. Not too oily, seasoned well, good amounts of protein. It is definitely a carry-out place - although you can eat in there is zero ambiance. Nice selection of choices. My favorite is the curry chicken.

CAM C.

Yelp
We really enjoy Ting's. The staff is super friendly and the food is always very good. We know that between COVID, supply chain issues, and inflation, it has been very difficult for restaurants and we are doing our best to support them as much as we can. What we have noticed our last few visits to Tings is the portions have gotten quite a bit smaller and when it comes to certain dishes, the ratio of meat to veggies has really changed. Hopefully this will not be a permanent change.
google avatar

Joy H.

Yelp
Very clean and organized when you enter. Impressed with the quick service. The food was very fresh and flavorful. I ordered the "Treasures of the Sea" and enjoyed it very much. Reasonable prices too. We will be back!
google avatar

Ryan R.

Yelp
This place is awesome. Have ordered three times, all different dishes each time and everything has always been great. Easily the best Chinese take out I have found in Richmond.
google avatar

Jeff M.

Yelp
This is my new favorite place to go for a quick bite. The food is delicious and the restaurant is recently renovated and clean. The new owner is very friendly and can accommodate if you have special request.

Kate S.

Yelp
Order the Singapore mei fun. You will not regret it-- full of all kinds of meats tossed in a delicious spicy curry sauce. I dream about this dish.

Rob B.

Yelp
Tings is THE best Chinese takeout place in the area. As a relocated lower NY'er it's been tough finding good Chinese but Tings is always delicious and scratches the itch. Recommended!!

Megan S.

Yelp
As an Asian American, I'm pretty picky about which restaurants I like to order from, and most Chinese take out places in America are usually soggy and flavorless. This place is great! I have no clue how this restaurant got a 2 star review other than the fact that there is no MSG in any of Ting's food which I find a major plus. I know it's a staple ingredient in Asian cuisine and it makes your food super delicious, but I never feel bloated or unhealthy after eating here and the food is still full of flavor and tastes awesome. It has all your typical Chinese American favorites. I really like their curry and their combination soup.

Emily T.

Yelp
Just got delivery from here for the first time. Ordered from the Beyond Menu app. Only $1 delivery fee and it was here fast and hot. Ordered: steamed dumplings, chicken teriyaki, wonton soup, crispy sesame beef and moo shu chicken. The dumplings weren't great, they tasted like the frozen kind from the supermarket and the dipping sauce was lacking. I'm a huge dumpling fan so I was disappointed. Wonton soup was meh. Not bad, but nothing special. The chicken teriyaki, however, was GREAT. Better than other local Chinese restaurants we've had. The crispy sesame beef was not even remotely crispy. Very breaded and soft. The sauce was good but the texture of the beef and breading was off-putting so I wouldn't recommend. On to the shining star of the order...the moo shu chicken. The flavor/texture of the meat and veg was perfect. Savory, a little smoky, and really came together with a drizzle of the hoisin sauce you get on the side. The "pancakes" were warm tortillas. Not traditional, but actually tasted really good with the dish. Would definitely order this again. Overall, while 3/5 items weren't great, the other two dishes were so good that they made up for the fails. We will order from here again and try some other dishes...but will steer clear of anything breaded.

HerNana L.

Yelp
I've only ordered one dish many times ... and it's good, but the last time I ordered they skimped on ingredients. The shrimp have become much smaller, less egg and less onions ... but lots of rice. That's why I only gave three stars.

Brandon T.

Yelp
I've searched high and low for great Chinese food in RVA, Ting checks off every box. It's a tight-knit family operation that delivers consistently great quality with every order.

Tracy D.

Yelp
We are extremely please with the food quality, cleanliness, customer service, price, and taste. We are new to the Richmond area and have been trying different Chinese restaurants. This is the very best so far. I ordered the garlic chicken which came with lots of mixed vegetables. All cooked jusT right and not mushy. The crab Rangoon had lots of fIlling. My husband ordered sesame chicken which had broccoli with it. Both came with soup or egg roll. Good value for total price of $23.
