Many many years ago, this place used to be Tani's Kitchen and it had amazing ratings, which I never understood. The place was tiny, dark and seemed to serve standard homemade Japanese food. I wasn't impressed. So now here we are, many years later, dining at Tiny Sushi, Oh Baby (weird name)
Right away, you notice service is going to be impeccable, like you're dining at a 5 star restaurant, which is odd because this place is still super tiny -- maybe that's their inspiration for the odd business name.
Our waiter recommended many items from the menu and talked about them like a fine dining experience. Guess the service matches the prices they expect you to pay. This meal was definitely a treat. We tried 5 items and the total was $159! Arrived on a Wednesday at 5pm, which was perfect because you do not wanna dine here when it gets full.
Deluxe chirashi bowl $59.95
An exquisite presentation of: sea urchin, scallop, spotted shrimp, salmon roe, salmon belly, Japanese omelet, seaweed salad, fried shrimp head and an abundant variety of fresh white fish -- honestly a work of art on top of a bowl of rice.
Ferrari roll $24.95
Bbq eel, mango, spicy tuna, ahi tuna, salmon, avocado, crab, radish, black tobiko and seaweed salad -- this was the best out of all the rolls but also the most expensive. The rest of the rolls pretty much all kinda taste the same.
Warrior roll $19.95
Shrimp tempura, crab, seared salmon
Baked baby scallop roll $19.95
Crab meat, avocado, baked scallop
this was messy to eat, little sweet
Heart attack roll $19.95
Crab meat, avocado, shrimp, bbq eel
They gave us two free sushi tacos at the end: seared salmon and chopped white fish, avocado, corn bits, all topped on a fried crispy seaweed chip -- probably valued at $9 -- it was tasty and very much appreciated!
We definitely spent some shiny pennies here. I don't know that I would come back, simply because of the price point. While the fish was definitely fresh and the techniques were definitely skilled, nothing was exceptional enough to justify the price. One thing I have to say is their homemade sesame dressing is absolutely OUTSTANDING! Wow -- I can't go back to the bottled stuff now! They should bottle their sauce and sell it!! Yummy dressing, oh baby!!
