Where To Eat Along The Riverwalk - Chicago - The Infatuation

"This popular bar is the unofficial summertime gathering place for people who work in the area. Be prepared to balance a beer and a basket of tasty barbacoa nachos while standing—or wait at least 45 minutes for a table—if you visit during the week. But the (occasionally live) music is fun, and you can pass the time waiting in line for a summery cocktail by befriending people from other companies also complaining about their boss. When you’re five mojitos deep and on hour two of complaining, the slightly better-than-expected bar food—like a pair of salty, buttery, soft pretzels, or a decent smashburger—will get the job done." - veda kilaru

Tiny Tapp & Cafe - Review - Loop - Chicago - The Infatuation

"For a place that doesn’t actually have Happy Hour deals, Tiny Tapp attracts a Happy Hour crowd like Drake to a rap beef. It’s open on the weekends too, with people stopping for breakfast sandwiches and coffee before noon, but this popular Riverwalk bar is truly the unofficial summertime gathering place of people who work in the area. Be prepared to balance a beer and a basket of surprisingly tasty barbacoa nachos while standing—or wait at least 45 minutes for a table—if you visit during the week. But the (occasionally live) music is fun, and you can pass the time waiting in line for a summery cocktail by befriending people from other companies also complaining about their boss. Like most places on the Riverwalk, you’re not coming here for a meal. But when you’re five mojitos deep and on hour two of complaining, the slightly better-than-expected bar food—like a pair of salty, buttery soft pretzels, or a decent smashburger—will get the job done. photo credit: Kim Kovacik photo credit: Veda Kilaru" - Veda Kilaru

Google
“Roasted” corn salad looks nothing like the photo and the corn is from a can. The Bloody Mary was tasty and the views from the outdoor patio are fab. Our party liked the fries and smash burger, but I say just have a drink and skip the food.

Google
Took my husband there for his birthday yesterday and we loved it! We had to wait 45 minutes for a table by the river, but it was worth it! Great crowd! Service was great also. We sat right next to the band, which did a fantastic job!! Made us feel like we were in the VIP section… lol My husband is still talking about the experience! The spicy chicken wings and parmesan garlic waffle fries were our favorites!! We will definitely be back!!

Google
Tiny Tapp is a total vibe! What a beautiful day to chill on the Chicago Riverwalk. I love being around people that are happy and positive because good energy is infectious. Really good frozen drinks on the menu. I tried two different types. For food l enjoyed the chicken czar flatbread, very flavorful. My friend ordered the chicken czar salad and we shared an order of garlic parmesan tapp fries that came with a garlic aioli which we did not use. Beautiful mixed crowd of high energy people embracing waterfront entertainment. There were parades of birds, kayaks, small boats and yachts. We were also treated to a live performance from sultry songtress Meagan McNeal. She came with a live band and brought along a few friends who also entertained us with songs. It was absolutely beautiful. Meagan will be performing July 15th at City Winery on Randolph if interested.

Google
Tiny Tapp is such a gem in Chicago! The food is delicious, the service is outstanding, and the atmosphere makes you want to stay all afternoon. It’s the kind of place you instantly fall in love with and can’t wait to come back to. The live music is definitely a big plus—it adds the perfect touch to an already amazing experience!

Google
Beautiful view. Can get congested. Can’t sit at the tables by the river because it’s being set up for “food service” we got breakfast and moved to the little nook with the couches.

Google
Host stand was almost rude. They were having a conversation with each other and just ignoring us standing there to check in. The server was very warm and nice though. The food was average and nothing special. Best part was being on the river walk but I certainly enjoyed other places along the walk more than this one.

Google
Decided to stop for a beer with my lady while walking along the river. We were just visiting for a few days and happened upon the art on the mart by accident. If it weren't for the server saying enjoy the show we probably woulda missed it. It was a cool location and a cool show.

Google
Great stop on the riverwalk, got a nice ice tea and enjoyed my donut from the donut vault. They have outdoor tables and benches with umbrellas. I'd check it out!

Yelp
Tiny Tapp is a spot you have to check out soon! The vibe is perfect--super chill, dog-friendly, and right along the Riverwalk with a fire pit that adds to the cozy atmosphere. The service here is top-notch, too! The team checked on us several times to make sure everything was perfect, and they truly made us feel welcome. As for the food? Absolutely delicious! The tomato soup was bursting with flavor, made with fresh tomatoes that stayed warm until the very last bite. Paired with their grilled cheese, which was buttery, cheesy, and incredibly filling, it made for the ultimate comfort combo. And don't miss out on the garlic Parmesan fries--crispy, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely addictive. If you're looking for great food, stellar service, and an amazing view, Tiny Tapp should be at the top of your list!

Yelp
Great spot along the river to grab a coffee or meal. They have a cafe option before the restaurant opens that is grab and go. We've done both while along the river. Great service and amazing views. It can get crowded but it's worth the wait

Yelp
Beautiful location. Long lines. All usually pointing to a positive experience. Looked on YELP as I waited in line, ugh 3stars. Oh well, already here... Totally get the 3stars. Just an ok cup of coffee. Worst part, after waiting for 10min after ordering, it was warm. Thats sounds whiny, sorry. If I was near a microwave, I would've popped it in for 45sec and then given my stars. Drank my warm, ok coffee and moved on. My fault for not listening to YELP.

Yelp
We stopped here while doing the riverwalk as we needed a quick pick me up. I got an iced caramel latte and their blueberry buttermilk muffin. Both were so tasty! We also tried their chocolate muffin and apple cinnamon muffin. Those were also delicious. Prices are typical for the area and the service was fast. I loved the location right by the river.

Yelp
Very windy but very stunning River side eatery! You have to keep an eye out for your plates and cups they will fly away towards the water. The food was pretty good, though I mostly ate the appetizers and the side menu items. You can't really go wrong with french fries and some fried pickles.

Yelp
Tiny Tapp is a great riverside bar/cafe on the Chicago riverwalk. A group of us recently visited on a Saturday night -- to set the scene, the riverwalk was poppin, tons of people out and about, and generally just enjoying a summer evening! We went looking for a central spot to meet up, hang out, have a drink, and enjoy the river -- enter Tiny Tapp. There are tons of tables, both next to the river and a little ways up... but be prepared for a wait. The host was happy to add us to the automated waiting list (30 min estimate and 20 min reality for reference), and we were seated immediately after that. There's a good selection of drinks, but the plastic cups give a... college bar vibe. Take that as you will! The servers are super friendly, but can get swamped -- be prepared to wait a while and maybe order multiple drinks at once if you're... especially thirsty. Another asterisk, it can get super loud if you're in the middle of the table clumps, just be prepared for that! Overall, I'd still recommend Tiny Tapp! It's great for 20-somethings visiting town, but I think it has plenty to offer for other bar-goers as well.

Yelp
Stopped at Tiny cafe while enjoying a stroll along the riverwalk. Friendly staff, $6 large latte- good balance and creamy froth. Great view and outdoor seating

Yelp
The food was pretty decent. Unfortunately, our server must have been overwhelmed that day. She kept forgetting little things. Even forgot things she suggested. I won't go into detail. One thing I have to tell myself is this establishment is on the Chicago Riverwalk which can get pretty crowded on the weekends. Luckily, we did get seated fairly quickly and had a great view on a sunny Sunday afternoon. I still think Tiny Cafe is a good place to hang out if the conditions are right:)

Yelp
Was a little taken aback at first with the price of the fries but it turns out it can feed two people comfortably - not to mention that it was delicious and flavorful. The staff was friendly and told us where to pick up our food as we opted to seat ourselves on a high top. There's plenty of seating around their area of the riverwalk though for full service. A nice little respite through a hot summer walk in along the river!

Yelp
Easy spot to stop for some food and drinks right on the riverwalk. Casual bar food and plenty of beer options.

Yelp
This place had an amazing view and location. My sister and I got the hummus platter to share while my father got the smashburger. The burger was amazing, no complaints. The hunmus platter definitely was a little disappointing as the celery still looked dirty in some spots and the naan was cold. Our server was also a little slow and it took us a while to even get someone's attention for the check, however, I'm sure some will appreciate the extra time to sit and breathe in the fresh air.

Yelp
Ordered the Frozen Henry Holiday, Roasted Corn Salad with Chicken, and waffle fries for lunch. Of course the scenery is the best part, but the salad was absolutely delicious and flavorful. Goat cheese definitely adds to a salad with vinaigrette dressing. The waffle fries had a good amount of salt and were crisp and crunchy. The Frozen Henry Holiday was just right, not overly sweet, and gave a nice buzz. Customer service at the bar was far from the best, the employee I ordered with was not friendly at all and not so helpful either. However, two other wait staff were extremely helpful getting me my missing salad dressing and taking my dishes away after I was done. I would still recommend for the amazing river view, food, and drinks.

Yelp
Tiny Tapp is a nice vibe for a coffee along the river walk! Really nice ambiance. However the quality of the coffee and food is pretty medium. They don't have cold brew, only iced coffee. The chocolate muffin was ok, definitely not Olympic village level. A nice spot for something simple along the river, but not the highest esteemed coffee shop to me.

Yelp
Tiny Tapp & Cafe is a cute trendy restaurant. Date nights, solo nights, girls night, any type of night is great for Tiny Tapp & Cafe right along the gorgeous river walk. Just opened to first come to first serve! So you know what that means; date night every weekend, well almost every Weekend. Saturday nights good drinks good food and a nice view is everything's about a Saturday date night is needed! Check em out!

Kazimir T.

Yelp
Tiny Tapp is a great spot for casual drinks and snacks by the river. The laid-back atmosphere and scenic views make it perfect for relaxing with friends. The staff is friendly, and the food is simple but tasty.
google avatar

Yelp
Tiny Tapp by the Chicago River is the perfect spot for a laid-back drink with a view. Their Frozen Vodka Taperol is a refreshing twist on the classic cocktail, making it the ideal choice for a sunny day by the water. With its relaxed vibe and prime riverside location, it's a great place to unwind and enjoy the city.
google avatar

Yelp
Tiny Tapp Cafe is the perfect spot for a coffee or quick bite on a nice summer day. The Riverwalk views are the best and the atmosphere is always great with everyone enjoying the nice weather. They have plenty of seating and the staff is all so friendly. They have a cocktail & food area and a cafe - Both the frozen drinks and the coffee/lattes are amazing - Not overpriced given the location and experience you get while sitting on the riverwalk. Will be going many times this summer!
google avatar

Taylor A.

Yelp
Came back for the late night drinks! Love the vibe here and that you can sip a couple drinks by the river. I also highly recommend trying the Frozen Henry's Holiday! It's like drinking an alcoholic dessert
google avatar

Ricardo V.

Yelp
Horrible service, There is nothing worse than being seated by the clueless hostess & being passed up by the blind waiting staff... waited over 10 minutes! Don't waste your $, not here.
google avatar

Gina H.

Yelp
Love the location on the riverfront and relaxed environment. The flatbreads & drinks were great and service attentive.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here before we went on an urban kayak tour and enjoyed it. My brother, his girlfriend and I all enjoyed our food. I would come again. The service was also good. The location is great and near so many things to do.
google avatar

Yelp
Tiny tapp was. Great experience and we came back several times after! The first time we stopped in we got 2 drinks and just enjoyed the view. It was a great experience and a pleasant atmosphere. We later came back for a bagel and coffee and both were great. We came back for a third time right before we left to grab drinks. The place is always packed but there's lots of seating options whether on some barstools, at a table, or on the steps by the river. It is walk up and order style which is fine. The drinks themselves were very good and not overly sweet or strong. Only downfall is the bathrooms. There have to be about 300 chairs at this venue, maybe more, and there are only 2 bathroom stalls for women. Overall though good experience with great drinks. Would recommend and would go back!
google avatar

Yelp
$13 for a frozen Margarita? Worth it for the view. We had the best time chilling on the riverside and people watching. I'll be taking every one of my friends here when they visit now. If you're thinking about checking it out, sit at the top of the patio so you can face the gorgeous river view! - AT
google avatar

Yelp
You can get pretty thirsty looking at all that water as you're taking a stroll on the riverwalk. There's no better place to stop and grab a nice cold, refreshing beer than Tiny Tapps. It was so nice to enjoy a beer with such a nice view on a warm, sunny afternoon. What more can you ask for than to sip on an afternoon hazy ipa while watching the many boat tours go back and forth across the river. I'll be back when I visit Chicago again.
google avatar

Jingwei K.

Yelp
Nice cafe right on the riverwalk where I enjoyed an old-fashioned donut and cortado after a morning stroll. Seems like this place also transforms in the evening for happy hour and serves bar food, frozen margaritas, and other drinks.
google avatar

Tom D.

Yelp
A super cool and beautiful place in the summer. Make sure to reserve a table in advance. There are various types of snacks and a good selection of alcohol.
google avatar

Layla R.

Yelp
very fun and upbeat vibe. very packed. right next to the water. frozen margaritas were good. very stingy with condiments. great outlook and view. would recommend for a hangout spot. food was a little pricey but nothing too crazy

Fel V.

Yelp
Day 1 was good. Server Chris kept my water glass filled. Chicago dog was excellent. Day 2 was bad. My wife wanted to try the Chicago dog, she got it. But, a different server, and she was awful. We needed more water and iced tea, so we asked another person and he told us only our server can do that. And, I decided to try the roasted turkey sandwich, the roll was stale. Will not recommend this place. Better places for pizza and beer.
google avatar

Leslie H.

Yelp
Solid riverside cafe and bar along the Chicago Riverwalk. They feature beers from a few local breweries along with wine and cocktails. I didn't eat there so can't vouch for the food. The view of the river is great.
google avatar

Steven H.

Yelp
This was. A really cool spot to grab a beverage along riverside walk. I ordered a rum & coke and enjoyed it awhile sitting watching activity on the river walk. Tris place is right on the river walk and ha a sitting bar that looks onto the water and walk way and quite a few tables. THe beverages were small and a little pricey - that would be my only real complain. The environment was good and this is a great place to enjoy a beverage on a nice evening (or day) I did not try any food, but folks around seemed to be enjoying it,
google avatar

Alyssa S.

Yelp
Great eatery on the Riverwalk with a fantastic view of the Chicago River! We came here on a busy night but all the staff were fantastic and made sure we were tended to. We just stopped here for a late night snack so we only had some loaded waffle fries but they tasted great. The drinks were also quite good!
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised at the quality of the ice cream they have here. Made for a fantastic time to walk with my girlfriend on the river walk! Service was quick and I was surprised at the amount of ice cream we got. A little busy when we went but if you keep going on the riverwalk there are places to sit further down.
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
Great Happy hour spot! Can't beat the views and people watching on a summer day. Grab an open seat and then order drinks at the bar. They also have food available that can also be ordered at the bar. They will give you a buzzer and you can pick up from the kitchen when ready. If you want a seat close to the river, get there early. Self serve water is available at the bar too. We enjoyed Rose and the hummus sampler.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
Stopped for a coffee to keep us warm while walking the river walk on a windy day. The S'mores latte is a must.
google avatar

Annie R.

Yelp
Mid food but such a fun vibe for an early morning coffee, happy hour, or quick bite. Some weekends they have live music. The river is always so lively to be around
google avatar

Shriya S.

Yelp
I'm gonna say this place is one of the loop's best after work happy hr spots during the summer. I've never actually tried the food, but I LOVE the drinks. I've had the frozen marg and the jalapeño marg. They both have a good amount of sweetness as well as a decent amount of alcohol in them haha. The service is great, as the employees are super quick and efficient. The ambiance is absolutely gorgeous, fun-filled, and lively. This bar is right by the river, so you get to drink with THE BEST view. I absolutely love looking forward to coming here with my coworkers for happy hour. I think the bar recently opened up more seating spots, as this place can get packed during the warm, summer after work hours. I highly recommend Tiny Tapp and can't wait to go back again!
google avatar

Connor B.

Yelp
Another standard bar on the Riverwalk. I went here for drinks with some friends and it was a great time. It's a little bit crowded than some of the other areas as I think it's the first real Bar you get on the Riverwalk if you're walking west to east. It still is super fun though. Obviously not a bad idea to check it out if you're damn on the pathway.
google avatar

Samantha C.

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant to grab a quick drink by the river. The food was OK. I tried the cheese curds and they were just fine. Not great, or terrible. The drinks were great, and the service was amazing. It was a hot day when we ventured to Tiny Tapp and the server made sure we were well hydrated!
google avatar

Ash S.

Yelp
Love this spot. I love walking down the river and stopping for drinks and bar food here with guests. It's a vibe sitting and people walking/ boat watching. Service may take some time as this place gets crowded. But overall my go to spot on the river for a casual walk and snack food and drinks
google avatar

Brandi H.

Yelp
Great place and wonderful service! Had the chicken sandwich and it was amazing. Garlic fries are a must!! I had a lemon drop martini and it was delish!!
google avatar

Yelp
Food, service and ambiance Everything is amazing about this place. I went there 3 times in a weekend. Love this place It's an amazing place just to seat down and enjoy your food and drink and river.

Yelp
Met friends for cocktails and dinner at Tiny on a Wednesday evening . We arrived around 7 and they were busy. On the Riverwalk wirh a great vibe and atmosphere. A mix of seating from high top tables to lounge areas. We Ordered a Spicy Margarita and one of the IPAs to start. Margarita was tasty with just the right amount of spicy although I was missing the Tajin on the rim (they didn't have it) Also tried the Suburban- Tiny's Old Fashioned -perfect on this summer evening! Chips and Guac was our starter and didn't disappoint. First night back in Chicago after a few years so we had to order the Chicago Hot Dog. Tiny's version was delicious-nothing like the pepper, onion combo with Vienna Beef-and no ketchup! Did I mention Location location?- amazing views of the River and surrounding buildings. Service was excellent from beginning to end. A nice update from the original Tiny which I enjoyed some years back!
google avatar

Brittany M.

Yelp
I've never eaten here, but I've stopped in many times for a drink in the summer. It's a gorgeous view and a wonderful place to stop and watch the boats go by. It does tend to get busy, so it's not somewhere you'd probably go with a large group, but it's very easy to find a small for 4 or so people. Their frozen cocktails really hit the spot on a hot Chicago day!
google avatar

Kendall C.

Yelp
Cute area right on the river. Drinks is first come seating and the drinks and food tables had a wait list. We went to get a drink and wait for our table to be called and they said it was 20-30 min wait. They ended up never calling us. But it was nice being right on the river but very crowded.
google avatar

Grace L.

Yelp
This is right by the Chicago river front and they have plenty of seating facing the river. It's a super nice set up since you can just order at their stand and then bring it to your table. Frozen Henry's Holidays ($13) - the cup for this looks small but it's actually a lot of drink. Not particularly strong but certainly refreshing and doesn't taste too alcoholic. Chips and salsa and guacamole ($15) - chips were a super strange texture. It's like super hard but crispy? The salsa and guacamole are also store-bought (I think Costco). Overall, the food was mad expensive and not great but I liked the drinks and sitting by the river!

Letisha L.

Yelp
After purchasing food, my group and I sat at the patio to wait for our order. The Manager Jasmine told our group we could not sit at the patio even though we purchased food. We requested a refund from Jasmine and she instantly became irate. She called security on my group and called me a "BITCH". As a customer service representative I not sure when it became ok to explode on the customer upon a refund request however this is unacceptable!
google avatar

Alexa D.

Yelp
One of my favorite summer spots on the Riverwalk! This place is perfect for a work happy hour, pit stop on your walk, or a light bite. All the food I've tried there has been surprisingly great - the nachos, fried pickles, fries, and chicken Caesar pizza. My favorite drink is the Henry's holiday mixed with margarita. The service is okay which is why I only gave 4 stars. Some tables are further away and can be forgotten about. It's always lively and filled with mostly locals. The views of the river are awesome and it's dog friendly! One of my favorite summer spots for sure.
google avatar

Yelp
Tiny Tapp Cafe is in a great location by the river making it a wonderful place for a scenic coffee. I met a friend here on a Friday afternoon and it was packed! We decided to stick with food and drinks from the Cafe since Tiny Tapp was pretty crowded. I was really disappointed in the cafe. They have a huge ice cream menu and I was excited to get a scoop to enjoy since the weather was sunny. When I went to order, my cashier wasn't very friendly. He told me they were out of all of the ice cream flavors other than vanilla and chocolate, but wouldn't serve me the chocolate because it was harder to scoop than the vanilla and he didn't feel like scooping it. Needless to say, I ended up with a scoop of vanilla. The prices are pretty high, but that is standard with cafes in this area. I am usually okay with dealing with the prices, but it's not worth the cost when the service is poor too.

Yelp
What an amazing bar with even better service and ambience. We love claire and she deserves a huge raise.
